Toy Story 5 will break Pixar records with the most movies set in the same continuity, surpassing Cars. The Planes spinoffs tie into the Cars universe with help from key Pixar figures like John Lasseter. Despite the popular Pixar Theory, not all Pixar movies are part of the same canon, but hidden references imply a connection between the films.
Pixar has always been an animation trendsetter, but Toy Story 5 will mean the film series becoming truly unique among the studio's past works. Currently, another Pixar property is leading in one impressive category, but the fifth Toy Story movie will break this record when the movie is released in 2026. The return of Buzz and Woody could represent a much-needed financial win for Pixar, with 2017's Coco being the last original movie from the studio to make an impact at the box office. The box set includes classics like Snow White and the Seven Dwarves, as well as newer films like Encanto and Turning Red. In the new Disney+ animated series, “Monsters at Work” (streaming July 7), Disney offers its own version of the Green New Deal with laughter replacing scares as the energy source. The sequel to Pixar’s “Monsters, Inc.,” produced entirely by Disney Television Animation, picks up where the original Pete Docter-directed feature left off by exploring the difficult transition, with Mike (Billy Crystal) and Sulley (John Goodman) now in charge of the power plant.
Enter Tylor Tuskmon (Ben Feldman), a promising Scare graduate of Monsters University, who gets transferred to the Monsters, Inc. Facilities Team (Mift). And therein lies the conflict: How does he pivot from Scarer to Jokester while working in the basement as a maintenance expert?
“Our original concept was to start six months after [the transition], but it’s more interesting to deal with it during the switch, and then having a character who has prepared to be a Scarer...

By comparison, Planes 2: Fire & Rescue generated 115 comments, with 23 expressing intent to view.
Of the films coming soon, The Expendables 3 generated nearly 3,800 comments – with 800 (21%) of those mentioning intent to view.

After Planes flew into cinemas last summer and proved to be a crushing disappointment, it's probably fair to say that nobody is getting particularly hyped up for its sequel, Fire & Rescue. Perhaps these rock-bottom expectations are a good thing, because Planes 2 feels like a significant upgrade on its distinctly run-of-the-mill predecessor, which was initially going to be a direct-to-dvd release before it found its way onto the big screen.
Dane Cook returns to voice Dusty Crophopper, who this time around sees his racing career shot to pieces when he discovers a fault in his gearbox. This immediately creates a search for purpose and meaning more compelling than anything in Planes - what's more heartbreaking, chasing a dream or coming...

The team at HeyUGuys rarely struggle with a case of the Mondays. We are blessed with an office space that encompasses screening rooms, red carpets, funky hotel suites and movie sets. And each new week brings new adventures our way. Nevertheless, last Monday was a stand out day as Disney hosted an action packed junket for Planes 2: Fire and Rescue. We have never battled flames in the name of movies before…
Planes 2: Fire and Rescue follows plucky racing plane Dusty Crophopper on an heroic new journey as he faces the prospect of a life without victories. We sat down with director Bobs Gannaway and producer Ferrell Barron to discuss Dusty’s life as a fledgling fire fighter, the challenge of dovetailing old characters into a brand new world and the real world inspiration behind the Fire and Rescue story.

Dusty Crophopper is back for a brand new adventure, and this time it’s a blockbuster. Faced with the dual threats of an early end to his racing career and Propwash Junction’s closure, Dusty and his ailing torque gauge fly west to Piston Peak National Park to train as a firefighter. Thunderclouds recall military aircraft as towns and valleys with ingenious engine details unfurl below him and beckon him on his way. Toby Wilson and team’s sumptuous animation is as characterful and joyous as the tiny craft ought to be. Drawing heavily on Top Gun themes of arrogance, loss and redemption, this summer holiday release aims high but stalls before breaking cloud cover.
On arrival at the Air Attack Base Dusty (Dane Cook) tries his best to assimilate with the team. However, the resentment of his trainer Blade Ranger (Ed Harris sounding pleasingly like Billy Bob Thornton) coupled...

Disney's sequel “Planes: Fire and Rescue” takes off in theaters Friday, the latest entry in what's been a very down year for animated movies at the box office. Call it the post-”Frozen” hangover. Warner Bros.’ “The Lego Movie” was a breakout smash when it opened in January, but nothing has come close since. “Planes 2” is expected to open in the $20 million range, and with its $50 million production budget it should make money for Disney, but it's not going to turn the tide. The short story is that a couple of the movies expected to be very big —...

We’ve got our hands on some new clips from Planes 2 Fire and Rescue, which is promising more of the same, and that’s not a bad thing. The Disney Animation Planes, spun off from Pixar's Cars, proved something of a box-office hit for the studio last year back, so here is a first clip from the remarkably quick sequel, Planes 2: Fire & Rescue. Check out those Yosemite-inspired landscapes as the central characters spin into action to fight a forest fire. This time, Dane Cook's Dusty finds himself flying with a crack firefighting unit led by helicopter Blade Ranger (Ed Harris), with air tanker Dipper (Modern Family's Julie Bowen) and a team of smaller all-terrain vehicles called The Smokejumpers. They're trying to protect Piston Peak National Park from wildfires, so expect heroics in testing circumstances.Planes 2: Fire & Rescue hits screens on August 8, and also features the voices of Jerry Stiller, Stacy Keach, Regina King, Wes Studi and John Michael Higgins. It's all directed by long-term Disney writer, producer and director Roberts Gannaway.{Planes 2 posters...

Tim here. This weekend sees the release of How to Train Your Dragon 2, the first of just two major animated features coming out this summer (and having to imply that Planes 2: The Plane Fight Fire Now is a “major” film tastes like ash in my mouth). More importantly, it’s the sequel to a four-year-old film that’s broadly regarded as the best movie DreamWorks Animation has ever made. And there have been many appreciations advanced through the years as to why How to Train Your Dragon is so good – a comic tone that never trumps the basic sincerity of the story, John Powell’s gorgeous, Celtic-tinged score, the first actual decent animation of normal humans in the studio’s history – I can tell you pretty easily why it’s my own personal favorite: it’s the best movie about cats ever made.

Disney has released a set of beautiful vintage posters ahead of the release of Planes 2: Fire And Rescue.
Dusty and the gang are the focus of the posters – designed by Art Director Toby Wilson early in the production of the movie. The Americana-style concepts for the look of Piston Peak National Park were inspired by vintage 1930s Wpa-era prints.

Appreciated by wee’uns but widely disliked by adults with reviews to write, Planes seemed like a rare creative misfire for Lasseter-era Disney. But there were enough tinies in the former camp - $220m worth – to warrant a trilogy, and sure enough, part two, Planes 2: Fire & Rescue arrives this summer. If it’s anything like as easy on the eye as these new concept posters, that critical animus might just soften. The story this time has a crew of firefighting aircraft defending Piston Peak National Park from the ravages of bush fire. Signing up on scorch prevention duty is Dusty (Dane Cook), hero of Planes, who is resigned to his retirement from racing with a dicky engine and looking for a new outlet for his talents. Also on deck are wizened fire-and-rescue chopper Blade Ranger (Ed Harris), tanker Dipper (Julie Bowen), heavy-lift helicopter Windlifter (Wes Studi), ex-military...
