For a movie so transparently intended to tie up the loose ends of a long-frayed horror franchise that’s only put out prequels for the last 10 years, “Insidious: The Red Door” is a surprisingly accessible introduction to the Lambert family and their unfortunate history of demonic possession. This jolt-happy July programmer might be as dull and rusty as a nail in the coffin could possibly get without breaking apart, but “Insidious” newcomers should rest assured that they’ll be able to follow along with their friends’ exasperation.
One reason you should be able to jump in easily enough: the film starts with young Dalton (Ty Simpkins) and his dad Josh (Patrick Wilson) being hypnotized to forget everything that happened in “Insidious” and “Insidious: Chapter 2,” which effectively puts them on the same page as most of the people in the audience. For another thing, Scott Teems’ script — somehow even thinner than...

Here’s one for any Chicago residents who’ve ever wanted to watch Rosario Dawson try to fend off a crazy, knife-wielding Katherine Heigl without having to worry about breaking the bank. We’ve got a bunch of free tickets up for grabs for an advance screening of the duo’s new thriller, Unforgettable. (Tagline: “When love ends, madness begins.”) The film sees Heigl play a spurned ex out to destroy the woman (Dawson) who ends up engaged to her former man. (Between this and 2015’s failed black comedy Home Sweet Hell, the Knocked Up star has apparently been building up quite a knack for this particular flavor of pissed-off and obsessive role.)
All you have to do to see Unforgettable for yourself is head here and hit “Get My Passes.” The screening is scheduled for Wednesday, April 19 at 7 p.m., at the Showplace Icon at Roosevelt ...

Arrow Films’ 15th anniversary release has sold out several screenings of a new 4k restoration of the film, which began an exclusive run at the British Film Institute in London on Saturday and expands nationwide in the U.K. on December 23. No plans have been announced regarding a potential release in the U.S.

The Razzie Awards have actually managed to stake their claim on a part of the film world now, with their yearly release not going unnoticed by anyone, and this despite the fact that you too can vote for them, as long as you buy in.
This year was bound to be dominated by the biggest winners, because no movie managed more universal hatred than Fifty Shades of Grey (and those who hated it weren’t always waiting for the release), unless it was Fantastic Four and it’s director outrage kurfuffle (he managed his own award as well).
Many of the other awards were largely foregone conclusions as well, mainly because Kevin James, Adam Sandler, and The Chipmunks made movies… or whatever.
Still, worst movies and performances make for tricky voting. It’s hard to pick among the nominees sometimes, which explains the dual win for overall worst picture, but...

While most of the Tinseltown contingent is busy handing out trophies and pats on the back, the Razzies judges are releasing their picks for the entertainment industry’s weakest work over the past year.

Congratulations to Gatorfan for an outstanding 93% accuracy predicting the 2015 Razzies nominees on Wednesday. He actually tied with WesleySiems for the top percentage but has the best point total of 29,830 by using his 500 and 200 point bets wisely. Over 800 people worldwide predicted the Razzie Awards nominees. Our scoring champ only missed three slots out of the 40 available across eight categories. He had Reese Witherspoon ("Hot Pursuit") instead of Katherine Heigl ("Home Sweet Hell") as Worst Actress. He took Ellen Barkin ("The Cobbler") in place of Julianne Moore ("Seventh Son") for Worst Supporting Actress. The third miss was "Pixels" instead of Fifty Shades of Grey" for Best Director. The nominations for the 36th Annual Golden Raspberry Awards have been announced and it's packed full of all the worst things in movies that we saw in 2015. Josh Trank's utterly terrible film Fantastic Four was unsurprisingly nominated for 5 awards this year including Worst Picture and Worst Director.
Other films included on the list include Fifty Shades of Grey, Paul Blart Mall Cop 2, Pixels, and Jupiter Ascending. Some of the worst actors on the list of nominations include Johnny Depp, Kevin James, Adam Sandler, Channing Tatum, Katherine Heigl, Mila Kunis and Dakota Johnson.
There are a lot of terrible movies up for awards this year, so it's hard to predict who will win. But I think Fantastic Four and Fifty Shades of Grey will walk away with the majority of them. Here's the nomination video, and below that you'll find the full list. Look them over and let us know what your predictions are.

It's the day before the Oscar nominations are announced, and that means Razzies! Yes, the nominees for the awards that celebrate the best of the worst have been announced. Not too many surprises this year: "Fifty Shades of Grey," "Jupiter Ascending," and "Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2" led the pack with six nominations each. Really the only surprise was that "Mortdecai" wasn't up there with them (it only got three noms). Oh, and that Julianne Moore was nominated. I didn't see "Seventh Son" but I can't imagine that she was bad enough in it to be considered one of the worst performances this year. She's Julianne Moore! And dubious congratulations are in order for Kevin James, who was nominated in several acting categories for his work last year. Winners will be announced on February 27 -- as always, the night before the Oscars are handed out. Worst Picture "Fantastic Four" "Fifty Shades of Grey...

Yes, it's that time of the year again! The day before Hollywood pats itself on the back with Oscar nominations, the Razzies show up to remind everyone why Hollywood deserves a few raspberries with the champagne.
Besides as Jean-Ralphio could tell you, there's nothing more fun than honoring the wooooorst:
This year, there's a four-way tie for the dubious honor of most Razzie Award nominations: "Fifty Shades of Grey," "Pixels," "Jupiter Ascending," and "Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2" got six nods. That, at least, is some small consolation for "Fantastic Four," which walked away with "only" five nominations. And "Pan," "Mortdecai," and "Human Centipede 3" were seriously let off the hook. (Hook -- get it? The worst!)
Here's an exciting note: Eddie Redmayne has a chance to win both an Oscar and a Razzie in the same year, since the reigning Best Actor winner will probably be nominated again for "The Danish Girl...

Fans of Kurt Russell are in for a treat with 2015, as the actor has already starred in one blockbuster hit this year, with two more films on the way.
The trailer for the first of the two, Bone Tomahawk, has now been released. The film marks the directorial debut of cinematographer S. Craig Zahler, who also wrote the screenplay for the film. Russell is joined onscreen by Matthew Fox, Patrick Wilson, Richard Jenkins, David Arquette, Geno Segers, and Sean Young.
The film’s synopsis is as follows.
Four men set out in the Wild West to rescue a group of captives from cannibalistic cave dwellers.
This marks one of two westerns that Russell will appear in this year following his appearance in Furious 7, the other one being The Hateful Eight, which will mark his reunion with Quentin Tarantino. This film also marks Wilson’s third big screen appearance this year,...

Portrait of Jenny: Heigl’s Performance Buoys Social Issue Context
There are several aspects to admire in Mary Agnes Donoghue’s sophomore directorial effort, Jenny’s Wedding, her first foray into directing since the 1991 Melanie Griffith film, Paradise. It’s most improbable facets are actually its assets, namely a warm central performance from Katherine Heigl as a lesbian who comes out to her wanly conservative nuclear family by announcing her marriage. A film such as this one could’ve had the opportunity to make an indelible mark on the American indie landscape had it been released seven to ten years prior, when the United States was coming out from underneath the shadows of the Bush Regime and the Lgbt community was in dire need of positive cinematic depictions meant to inspire hope in the eventuality of equality from the likes of trending, A-list actors at their peak.

Sometimes all you need to survive life's hurdles are a hunky guy who plays by his own rules and a little country music. That seems to be the basic outlay of "Jackie & Ryan," the latest film from Ami Canaan Mann. Katherine Heigl and Ben Barnes lead the movie which follows Jackie, a former singer whose marriage is falling apart, who finds hope in drifter/musician Ryan. Jackie is trying to extricate herself from her husband, who wants her to move to Manhattan and threatens to take sole custody of their child, while Ryan has to find his musical voice, an effort made even more difficult when his mentor dies. This one hardly charmed our critic in Venice, who called it "low on stakes, light on originality, and limp in execution." This is an urgent situation in which I explain that "Home Sweet Hell," the new Katherine Heigl/Patrick Wilson movie on DVD/Blu-Ray today, is essential viewing. For somebody. Spoiler: I have not seen the new Katherine Heigl/Patrick Wilson movie "Home Sweet Hell." It is my belief that I understand this film innately and shouldn't tarnish that connection with an actual viewing. It's about respect. Meanwhile I've examined the cover art of "Home Sweet Hell" and figured out every reason someone else must watch it. I'm stating the obvious here, but what a treat this is. Katherine Heigl is pointing a knife at her movie husband Patrick Wilson because after all, this home is a hell. Never forget that. Even these credits are scrumptious. Jim Belushi? As what, exactly? Do we think he plays "Home" or "Sweet"? The Jordana Brewster inclusion is troubling. Legally she can only star in the "Fast/Furious" movies,...

A Most Violent Year I was not the fan most were of J.C. Chandor's A Most Violent Year. It was one of those movies I respected more than enjoyed for its aesthetic, its approach to the genre and the performances. However, as I wrote in my review, I felt it was "a movie that feels like it's trying to be something rather than actually being that something." A second viewing may give me a little more respect for its narrative, but that's where I sit right now.

Hell is Where the Home Is : Burns’ Dismally Heavy-handed Dark Comedy
Playing like the crass, harebrained sister of Gone Girl’s infidelity issued ‘hell hath no fury’ treatment like a you-know-what, Anthony Burns’ sophomore feature, Home Sweet Hell plays like a watered down knock-off on all variable fronts. Broadly drawn, familiar scenarios littered with quirky supporting characters comprise this crude lump of a movie, hewn from the burnt stump of privileged suburban malaise, a dish once perfected now over baked into mutations of vulgar shock effect. Surprisingly, however, the very aspect of the film that works against its own appeal happens to be the sole point of enjoyment. But it’s not enough to make the film worthwhile.

If you've been a movie-watcher for more than a few months, you know the suburbs of 21st-century America are merely a glossy façade behind which the darkest depths of human malice and corruption lurk. What's mildly surprising about Anthony Burns's Home Sweet Hell is how much it wrings from this premise while still seeming fresh. For that, credit the cast's enthusiasm. As furniture store owner Don Champagne, Patrick Wilson adopts a forced grin recognizable to any nuclear family man. Meanwhile, wife Mona (Katherine Heigl) embraces the alpha mom concept with gusto, going from scrubbing sink grout with a toothbrush to insisting that Don masturbate rather than deviate from their strictly scheduled sex life. Indeed, Mona is practically a parody of every negative...

The fulfillment of wishes — to fall in love, to let justice prevail, to overcome adversity with dignity and strength — is one of the main reasons we as a species tell stories and, more recently, make films. Not all wishes are so noble, of course, as is the case with “Home Sweet Hell,” a rancid comedy fueled by male entitlement and uxoricidal rage. Starring Katherine Heigl and Patrick Wilson (the latter, coincidentally enough, also headlines the similarly repellent “Let’s Kill Ward’s Wife”), “Home Sweet Hell” is the cinematic equivalent of the guy who’s so busy ranting and raving about.

Nothing disrupts the American Dream like a beautiful woman with a questionable moral compass, but sometimes it's hard to tell which beautiful woman is the real culprit; the homemaker or the homewrecker. Since becoming America’s Sweetheart across the span of about four rom-coms, Katherine Heigl’s stock hasn’t exactly plummeted. Then again, it’s not been on the rise. Instead, it’s hovered indecisively while she committed to NBC’s latest drama, State Of Affairs. Whether she’s heading back to TV for the long haul or just waiting for a new movie direction, her performance in Home Sweet Hell hints at future in B-movies.
Directed by Anthony Burns (Skateland), the film stars Heigl as obsessive compulsive housewife, Mona, who makes her husband’s existence a living hell after she discovers he’s been unfaithful. Her poor spouse, a long-suffering furniture salesman named Don (Patrick Wilson), isn’t subjected to the normal ranting and raving of a wronged woman. Instead, Mona forces him to kill his pregnant mistress (Jordana Brewster), otherwise… well, if she’s making him commit homicide, then...

Watch: Katherine Heigl Makes 'Home Sweet Hell' For Patrick Wilson In New Trailer For The Dark Comedy
Katherine Heigl as a hen-pecking, murderous, psychopath? Yeah, somehow, I can believe it. The actress takes a left turn from her usually much sunnier characters for the upcoming dark comedy "Home Sweet Hell" (ha ha), and a new trailer has dropped for the flick. Patrick Wilson co-stars as Heigl's wife, a man nearly smothered by his Ocd wife. He winds up having an affair with a co-worker (Jordana Brewster), but when he accidentally knocks her up, his wife finds out, and murder becomes the only option on the table. So yes, this is all sorts of wacky, but everyone seems to be pretty game for the B-movie which looks like it could be a goofy enough time waster. Even the trailer is more fun than it has any right to be. "Home Sweet Hell" is now available on VOD and opens in cinemas on March 13th.

Katherine Heigl just can't seem to catch a break. For so long she played the down-on-her-luck girl trying to land a guy, and now that she's got the guy, she can't keep him from being faithful to her. In her new movie Home Sweet Hell, Heigl goes psycho after her husband impregnates one of his employees. Check out the red-band trailer below.
In the movie, Don Champagne, played by Patrick Wilson, has a gorgeous house, beautiful children, a successful business and a domineering, misguided, delusional wife (Katherine Heigl). And when she learns of his seductive new hire Dusty (Jordana Brewster) she will stop at nothing to maintain order as chaos begins to seep into her perfect world and destroy everything she holds dear. There's a lot of stories going around about just how unruly Katherine Heigl can be, and it looks like she's bringing some of that to the big screen in the form of a ridiculous and terrible looking thriller called Home Sweet Hell. A red band trailer for the film has just surfaced, showing off the story of Don (Patrick Wilson) who seems to have the perfect marriage, life and house until a sexy young woman (Jordana Brewster) comes along, sleeps with him, and then blackmails him for money unless he tells his wife (Heigl) about the affair. Things get interesting, so to speak, when his wife decides to kill the tricky vixen. Watch? Here's the first red band trailer for Anthony Burns' Home Sweet Hell, originally from Yahoo: Home Sweet Hell is directed by Anthony Burns (Skateland) and written by relatively unknown writers Carlo Allen, Tom Lavagnino and Ted Elrick.

We were big fans of Anthony Burns’ debut film, the visually strong coming-of-ager sans pretension and a nod to the Dazed and Confused sorts with just the right character set. Skateland deserved a little more fanfare than the one it got back in 2011, but Burns round two North of Hell, should receive a lot more fanfare with its cast alone. Pitting Patrick Wilson, Jordana Brewster, Kevin McKidd with Katherine Heigl, this dramedy began shooting in March-ish of this year…so we’re banking on this being already prepped for festival season.

Deadline (via ComingSoon) also reports that Jessica Chastain is lining up to join the new feature as well. Chastain is in talks to play the “third lead” in the film, next...
