Of course, it being made for children, there are some annoying or cringe moments. That being said, most of the characters are very well fleshed out. They grow throughout the first season, not only as individuals but also as a group. There are a lot of lessons to be learned, and watching as an adult, it's quite refreshing that the drama is mostly realistic for teenagers.
The friendships depicted are in my opinion also quite realistic, and relatively healthy. Especially the bond that Sophia forms with her new BFF can teach a lot of young kids what a good friendship can really be like.
And then there's the magic, the unicorns, the school. It's quite reminiscent of Winx Club, but without the flying. And the villain with the sidekicks remind me of Fairytopia. It's not too dark, but still engaging enough.
Then the animation. In some scenes, it looks a bit wonky and it could have been animated smoother. Still, it looks nice enough that it didn't bother me too much.
All in all, it's a nice watch. It's not the best quality tv out there, but it's also not trying to be. It's fun, it's magical and there are a lot of laughs.
