There are sports dramas, and then there’s Friday Night Lights.
While All American and other series have explored the heightened drama that unfolds on the gridiron and in the locker room, no show in modern history has consistently done so with as much heart as Fnl.
ESPN columnist Bill Simmons once hailed it as “the greatest sports-related show ever made.” Many critics would add that the contest is not a particularly close one.

Last month, Variety reported that Universal was developing a reboot of the beloved series, which ran from 2006-2011.
Now, the news has been confirmed, and the spinoff has been picked up by Peacock.
Surely some fans are excited about the prospect of returning to the world of Texas high school football.
But the prevailing mood at the moment is one of utter confusion.
And the question on the minds of many Fnl devotees is simply: Why?...

Last season, NBC aired 15 scripted series and, for one reason or another, only nine of them are expected to return this season -- and five of them are produced by Dick Wolf. How many NBC shows will be cancelled or renewed by the end of the 2024-25 TV season? Stay tuned.
NBC shows this season (so far): Brilliant Minds, Chicago Fire, Chicago Med, Chicago Pd, Dateline NBC, Found, Happy's Place, The Irrational, Law & Order, Law & Order: Svu, Lopez vs Lopez, Night Court, St. Denis Medical and The Voice.
There's lots of data that NBC execs look at when deciding whether to renew or cancel a TV series but the ratings are typically the biggest piece. Here's how the network's 2023-24 TV shows are doing.

The second season of Accused was quite the experience.
The anticipated series returned with a studded and shortened season. While it made do with its eight episodes and strong cast, the overall conclusion is that the sophomore season was underwhelming and inconsistent.
It didn’t meet the same standards as the first season. But let’s get into all of that with our Accused Season 2 Report Card.
Best Episode – Accused Season 2 Episode 2: April’s Story (Steve Wilkie/Fox)
Taylor Schilling was fantastic as an overwhelmed, working wife and mother to a child with behavioral issues on Accused Season 2 Episode 2.
The hour was one many could resonate with as it all boiled down to having an awful day. Everything that could go wrong went wrong for April as work, family, and life demands probed at her at once.
Road Rage takes center stage, but the hour does a fantastic job...

Throughout Brilliant Minds season 1, we’ve been introduced to some new and unique medical conditions. The midseason finale did not disappoint.
Caution: This post contains Minor Spoilers for Brilliant Minds season 1, episode 11
Jacob had a patient who he was quickly trying to discharge due to a bet with Van. However, he soon realized that there was something odd going on. His patient’s voice kept changing, and this patient said that it would happen if he talked a lot.
When the patient’s eye drooped, Jacob realized that he needed to diagnose this patient. That diagnosis was myasthenia gravis. Is it a real condition, though? Just like others you haven’t heard of, you can betcha that this is a real condition!

The Brilliant Minds season 1 midseason finale did not disappoint. It brought us unique medical conditions and plenty of drama.
Caution: This post contains Spoilers for Brilliant Minds season 1, episode 11
The episode itself was nicely split across three storylines. We got to see the interns at work as they decided to race each other to discharging their patients, and we got to see Wolf and Nichols figure out how to deal with their relationship when their medical opinions differ. Most importantly, we got some closure for Pierce’s storyline.

After finding out that Van and Ericka were together, Jacob couldn’t help but get jealous and possessive. He decided to pit Van to a race to discharge patients. Whoever discharged the most would win. Spoiler, it ended up being Dana, but that’s because Van didn’t seem all...

It’s going to be a long, anxiety-filled Brilliant Minds hiatus for Drs. Jacob Nash and Van Markus, along with all other fans of Dr. Ericka Kinney.
In the final moments of the NBC medical drama’s fall finale Monday, Ericka got stuck in an elevator at her apartment building. Unlike the older man and other woman in the car, she didn’t panic when the elevator stopped working — but her expression quickly turned to one of worry as the premises started to shake.

The medical cases and relationships on Brilliant Minds tied up loose ends as the first season comes closer to its end.
Brilliant Minds Season 1 Episode 11 seemed to tie up Carol’s connection to Alison and her marital issues with Morris. Dr. Wolf and Dr. Nichols disagreed about whether an old patient of Wolf’s should have brain surgery to remove his Tourette’s tics.
Also, Van and Jacob’s competition over Ericka intensified, and she hated feeling like a pawn in a chess game.
(Rafy/ NBC) Alison’s Need for Attention Almost Cost Carol Her Career
Affair stories on TV shows are a dime a dozen. However, Brilliant Minds expanded this one so that Alison and Carol both wanted to know about “the other woman.”
While Carol was typically fierce, she crumbled when Alison overdosed and worried her decisions drove Alison to the edge.

NBC’s Brilliant Minds episode 10 ended with Dr. Carol Pierce (Tamberla Perry) discovering Alison unconscious in her apartment. Episode 11, “The Other Woman,” opens with Alison rushed to the hospital, still unconscious and vomiting. Dr. Oliver Wolf (Zachary Quinto) glances knowingly at Carol, realizing the gravity of the situation.
Privately, Carol can’t believe Alison might be her one patient to die by suicide. She was only treating her to get more details on Morris’ infidelity and confesses she both envied and hated her. Oliver insists Carol isn’t at fault; Alison is a sick woman. Carol knows this is a huge ethical lapse, but Oliver thinks they should concentrate on keeping Alison alive for now.

What if we told you that the film that received the most Golden Globe nominations this year is currently available on Netflix and features a command performance by A-list megastar Selena Gomez?
That description might leave you wondering why you haven’t heard about this particular offering.
But when you learn that Emilia Perez is a French-produced, Spanish-language musical about a cartel kingpin who undergoes gender-affirming surgery, you might be less baffled as to how it slipped under your radar.
(Photo by Michael Tran/Afp via Getty Images)
To be clear, we’re sure it’s an excellent film, and you should check it out tonight.
But it’s not hard to see why it may have struggled to find an audience in the US, even though it premiered on the nation’s most popular (by far) streaming service.

During the previous episode, Pierce warned Wolf about dating someone he worked with. It looks like that will come up in Brilliant Minds season 1, episode 11, as Wolf and Nichols disagree with how to deal with a patient.
While the episode is titled “The Other Woman,” much of the promotional material focuses on Wolf and Nichols. They work with a patient who wants to go a specific route, but the two disagree on the right method of treatment. Could this have a knock-on effect on their relationship? Things are still early days for the two of them.

There are still episodes of our favorite TV shows on tonight, Monday, Dec. 9. However, many networks are opting for seasonal content now that shows are off the air.
The 911: Lone Star midseason finale aired last Monday. That means we’re into the winter break, and Fox and The CW have some specials airing tonight. One show is going to be good fun, especially if you want to see the likes of Anthony Anderson and Taye Diggs on your screen.
Meanwhile, some networks still have new episodes of top shows. There’s also some sports to check out.
Brilliant Minds, NCIS: Origins, and more
We’ll start with CBS, which has a full night of new shows. We’re getting closer to the fall finales of the Monday night shows. They will air next Monday, which means two more new episodes of all respective shows.

What might be Yellowstone’s penultimate episode should have been incredibly emotional. [Note: The show is advertising next week’s as a season finale, though previous news had stated this would be the final season.]
Throughout Yellowstone Season 5 Episode 13, the ranch that was supposed to be the Dutton family’s legacy is one step away from being sold to the highest bidder, and Beth seems helpless to stop it.
This should be a heartbreaking and depressing potential end to a series that once had my heart, yet I feel nothing except maybe annoyed by how much time this story wasted.
(Paramount/Screenshot) Beth Should Not Be Going Down Without More Of A Fight
How this entire “losing the ranch because of taxes” story has gone down has been severely disappointing.
In five years, have any of us ever known Beth to back down from a fight, no matter how clear it was to everybody that she’d lost?
Beth seduces rich businessmen and spits them out, and that’s only one of the...

A group of the industry’s top executives and creatives gathered at NeueHouse Hollywood for the Hollywood Chamber’s 2024 Entertainment Industry Breakfast on Dec. 5, presented by Variety, to look at “Driving a Path Forward” in the anxious aftermath of recent strikes and historically low records of production in Los Angeles.
Paul Audley, president of the nonprofit group FilmLA, presented research about disruptive trends in the industry and the opportunity for California to provide more tax credit incentives to boost local production. From a 2023 scripted content study, he cited that while industry output is declining all around the world, it is declining at even faster rates in L.A.
“We were honored to be present when Governor Newsom proposed expanding the tax credit here to $750 million a year,” Audley remarked. “[But] there’s a lot of work ahead to see that proposal become reality … There are already grassroots and professional efforts forming to have much needed conversations.

Let’s keep it as real as these characters we’re about to break down: flawed characters are fun.
A series isn’t much fun if it doesn’t have a flawed character who somehow resonates with the audience, whether they lean more dark or are a burst of light. Characters who recognize and embrace their flaws are some of the most compelling to watch.
And we couldn’t resist breaking down some of the characters who fit the bill.
Rafe Cameron – Outer Banks (Jackson Lee Davis/Netflix)
By now, we’ve discussed what went wrong in Outer Banks Season 4 and even mourned the loss of our comfort show. But moving on, the series is full of flawed characters who are somehow endearing.

When a first responder crashes in the hospital, Wolf and his interns get to work in Brilliant Minds season 1, episode 10. This is an important story about chronic pain and treatments.

We’ve all struggled with physical or emotional pain, and Brilliant Minds excels at choosing cases we relate to.
Brilliant Minds Season 1 Episode 10 introduces us to two patients on the opposite end of the pain spectrum. Finn Kemp was a 10-year-old autistic boy who didn’t feel pain, while Katie, a paramedic, felt too much pain.
Two action-packed cases would have been typically enough, but viewers barely had time to breathe in this episode. It also included many examples of emotional pain and relationship drama.
(Rafy/ NBC)
Besides the case, the biggest draw was watching how Dr. Wolf and Carol have always been there for each other. We even saw flashbacks of them in college.
Both cases affected the interns and their relationships, too, so let’s begin.
A Single Dad’s Cry for Help Brings Interesting Results
As someone who has worked with children with autism, I found Finn Kemp’s case fascinating.

The pieces are quickly clicking into place as 9-1-1: Lone Star comes closer to its swan song.
And it seems 9-1-1: Lone Star Season 5 Episode 9 was intent on wrapping up the case of Gabriel Reyes’ murder and finally elaborating on Judd’s drinking issue.
Also, we can anticipate where Owen will find himself by the end of the series.

When you have a series like this coming to a close in a mostly unexpected way, what results is a bunch of storytelling that can seem sporadic with the sole purpose of getting us to the finish line of completion.
And “Fall From Grace” was one of those installments where it felt like they had that sticking point in their minds that they needed some of these storylines to wrap up or place characters on specific paths.

When The Jetsons premiered in 1962, it wasn’t just a TV show; it was a vision of tomorrow.
As the first animated series broadcast in color during prime time, it dazzled audiences with its kaleidoscope of futuristic dreams — flying cars, robot maids, and video calls that felt light-years ahead of their time.
Against the backdrop of the space race and post-war optimism, The Jetsons reflected a cultural moment bursting with hope for a better, tech-driven tomorrow.
(ABC/Screenshot)
Unlike other sitcoms of the era, The Jetsons wasn’t just about gadgets — it was about humanity.
By blending science fiction with the everyday quirks of family life, the show made the future feel both aspirational and relatable.
George Jetson was a harried husband juggling a demanding boss and a family; Jane Jetson managed a household with technological flair; and their kids, Judy and Elroy, had all the typical adolescent drama –just with jetpacks.

George Jetson was a harried husband juggling a demanding boss and a family; Jane Jetson managed a household with technological flair; and their kids, Judy and Elroy, had all the typical adolescent drama –just with jetpacks.

By now, you’d think Grey’s Anatomy would have run out of things to do.
Somehow, Grey’s Anatomy Season 21 has been just as full of twists and turns as any earlier season, despite the fact that almost no one from the original cast remains.
At this point, we’re halfway through the season, so it’s time to rank and review its most memorable (and least satisfying) moments so far.
Best Episode: Grey’s Anatomy Season 21 Episode 8 (Disney/Anne Marie Fox)
Maybe it’s a cop-out, but the Grey’s Anatomy Season 21 Episode 8 really did deliver almost everything I could’ve asked for in such a meaningful episode.
High-stakes surgeries, relationship drama, emotional goodbyes, and impactful dialogue all made the hour thrilling and entertaining.
We got everything from a rare hint about Amelia’s backstory to a devastating scene between Jules and Mika.
It’s quite on-brand for Grey’s Anatomy’s...

At the end of Brilliant Minds Season 1 Episode 8, the two men discussed their relationship and decided to try it for real, despite warnings from Oliver’s mom.
As you’ll see in this clip exclusive to TV Fanatic, Dr. Wolf tells Dr. Carol Pierce that he’s dating Dr. Nichols. This is a massive step for him because he’s always avoided serious relationships previously.
(Rafy/ NBC)
This is a big deal because Carol has known Wolf since college and is aware of his dating life or lack thereof.
Brilliant Minds Season 1 Episode 10 looks drama-filled for Wolf and Carol. It seems that Wolf and Nichols grew even closer when Nichols returned from his conference.

Emotion influences how we see the world, from passionate red to envious green to depressed blue.

He lost a vital part of himself without communicating through his artwork, so he’s become bitter, angry, and depressed unless Wolf and the interns help him.

What happens when you lose the one thing you’re passionate about? That’s something that we take a look at in Brilliant Minds season 1, episode 9.
Caution: this post contains Spoilers from Brilliant Minds season 1, episode 9.
Titled “The Colorblind Painter,” we knew immediately what the case was going to involve this episode. Wolf and his interns had a patient who had lost the ability to see color. This wasn’t just any patient. Gabriel is an amazing artist, and without being able to see color, he can’t paint. Yet, he has an art exhibition coming up.
Wolf is intrigued. Why can Gabriel no longer see color? He had an accident a few months ago, and that was the time he lost the ability to see color. So, Wolf knows that it has something to do with that.

NBC’s Brilliant Minds episode nine opens with Ericka (Ashleigh Lathrop) and Van (Alex MacNicoll) in bed, totally happy but also certain they can’t tell any of their colleagues about their relationship. They want to keep things uncomplicated as long as possible.
While this is going on Dr. Oliver Wolf’s voiceover is all about emotions and how they affect the way we see colors. Colors can also cause emotions.
Oliver (Zachary Quinto) comes into work smiling, and the interns joke among themselves about their boss getting laid. After leaving a quick voicemail for Dr. Josh Nichols (Teddy Sears), Oliver meets with Angelika Delaney about one of her artist clients, Gabriel Ferguson. Recently, he stopped painting and is blaming it on migraines.

When we have a passion for something, a change in circumstance can cause us to lose it all. That’s what has happened in Brilliant Minds season 1, episode 9.
Beethoven is known for the composer who was deaf. He didn’t start his life deaf. He lost his hearing as he aged, but he didn’t allow that from following his passion and his dream. I hate to say this, but Law & Order: Svu is falling far short this season.
This has been my favorite show for decades. It’s the show that inspired me to write my own stories for and about survivors.
But this season, something is missing from Law & Order: Svu despite the fuller cast and some episodes that are worth a second look.
(NBC?Ralph Bavaro)
Contrary to showrunner David Graziano’s promise, Law & Order: Svu has not gone back to basics, and that’s what’s most disappointing about it.
If he hadn’t made that promise, maybe I’d be more positive about this season. The stories aren’t bad, for the most part, and the new character is enjoyable — when she’s actually featured.

Are you ready for another night of TV? Of course, you are! Monday, Nov. 25 sees some changes to the regular schedule, especially as we get closer to more fall finales.
The big change is to Fox’s lineup. There aren’t any new episodes of the two rescue shows. This is a little odd since the two shows will air their respective fall finales next Monday. There’s nothing special on tonight. Instead, Fox will air reruns of the 911: Lone Star season 5 premiere and the Rescue: Hi-Surf second episode.
Superman & Lois, NCIS: Origins, and more
CBS took time off last Monday from new episodes, but the shows are back on track tonight. That means a new episode of NCIS: Origins, which continues to see Gibbs deal with the loss of Shannon and Kelly. Well, not quite deal. He’s pretending he’s dealing, but there is a lot of pain and grief there.

There are some must-see cases and -moments coming up on Brilliant Minds. “We have a lot of high-octane stuff as it pertains to patients. We have a lot of medical and surgical things that are going to require Josh’s immediate attention, and it’s just mostly business as usual at the hospital,” Teddy Sears tells TV Insider. “But in typical Brilliant Minds fashion, it’s laced with wit and humor and is cinematically gorgeous to watch. And I’m excited to see the stuff that we shot going forward.” That includes a patient in Episode 9, airing November 23, that is inspired by a real Oliver Sacks case.
