It's been over 20 years since One Tree Hill made its television premiere on The WB and over 10 years since the beloved series came to an end on The CW. Time has only made fans adore the show more and more, and there's finally some good news on the potential future of the series: Sophia Bush and Hilarie Burton Morgan are working on a sequel series at Netflix!
Before we get too excited about the prospect of returning to Tree Hill two decades later, it's the perfect time to look back at original cast members and celebrate their generation-defining series. One Tree Hill helped launch the careers of Chad Michael Murray, Hilarie Burton Morgan, Sophia Bush, James Lafferty, and Bethany Joy Lenz, and they're all still beloved today.
If you're diving back into your millionth rewatch of One Tree Hill (no judgment!), you're probably wondering how old the actors were compared to their teen characters.

Eighteen years ago, Tyler Perry brought his DIY play to the big screen. Released in 2005, “Diary of a Mad Black Woman” chronicles one beleaguered woman’s journey to healing and self-discovery after being betrayed by her philandering husband. The film features all the classical elements of Perry productions. It’s set in a predominantly Black area of the South, there are theatrical church scenes and plenty of the over-the-top histrionics extracted straight from his plays. But more importantly, there was Madea.
Played by Perry himself, the matriarch emerged as a rambunctious, pistol-packing matriarch who’s as comfortable espousing quirky wisdom as she is ferocious clapbacks. Upon its release, the flick got mixed reviews from critics — but it grossed $50.7 million at the box office, just about 10-times more than its budget. Since then, Perry’s released nine additional Madea films, with the eight that came out in theaters grossing $570 million at the box office,...

March 2022 is a great month for blonde women with cold, dead stares on Hulu.
With its list of new releases for March 2022, Hulu is highlighting two major original series ripped straight from the headlines. The first is The Dropout, which premieres on March 3. This show stars Amanda Seyfried (taking over from the previously cast Kate McKinnon) as Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes. This story about high-level corporate fraud is truly wild, enough so to accommodate several books, podcasts, and even an upcoming film starring Jennifer Lawrence. Hulu is certainly hoping its version is the definitive one.

Will Tyler Perry win his third Worst Actress Razzie Award for playing his signature role as Madea in “A Madea Family Funeral”? It was purported to be the final Madea movie, so perhaps the Razzies will want to send him out with a bang — or with a bomb, as it were. But might it also be time to retire the Razzies trend of nominating male actors for female roles?
Perry is certainly not the only male performer who has been nominated across gender categories for playing a role in drag. Adam Sandler won Worst Actor and Worst Actress for playing twin siblings in “Jack and Jill” (2011), and the Razzies have also nominated Shawn Wayans, Marlon Wayans and Martin Lawrence in this category for female characters.

“Tyler Perry’s A Madea Family Funeral,” the final film in director, writer and star Tyler Perry’s Madea franchise of films, earned $1.1 million in Thursday box office previews from 2,100 screens. It’s opening on approximately 2,400 screens this weekend.
“Madea Family Funeral” is the 10th (though it’s the character’s 11th appearance) and last film in the franchise that features Perry as the wise-cracking old woman Madea. The movie is being released by Lionsgate and is projected by independent trackers for an opening weekend between $18-20 million, which would place it among the lowest openings of the franchise.
The last “Madea” film, “Boo 2! A Madea Halloween,” grossed only $760,000 on its way to a $21.2 million opening back in October of 2017. The lowest opening weekend for any “Madea” film was 2013’s “Tyler Perry’s A Madea Christmas,” which opened to only $16 million after earning just $278,000.

Universal and DreamWorks’ “How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World” is heading for a repeat victory at the domestic box office.
The final chapter in the “How to Train Your Dragon” trilogy could add another $27 million to $36 million in its second week of release if it sees a hold similar to its predecessors. The animated threequel debuted last weekend with a series-best $55 million. Since this weekend is light on new releases, that haul should easily be enough to top North American box office charts.

With “Captain Marvel” coming out next weekend, most studios are steering clear of releasing any films that could get caught in the Marvel movie’s undertow. The one studio that is putting out a new film this weekend is Lionsgate with “A Madea Family Funeral,” the tenth and final film in Tyler Perry’s long-running “Madea” series.
First imagined by Perry for his 1999 play “I Can Do Bad All By Myself,” Madea was brought to the big screen in 2005 with “Diary of a Mad Black Woman,” a film made on a $5.5 million budget that grossed $50 million at the box office. Since then, Madea has been a dependable, low-budget moneymaker for Lionsgate, as the character has grossed a combined $547 million at the domestic box office.
But over the past few years, diminishing returns seem to have set in. The series peaked in 2009 with a $41 million opening and $90 million domestic total for “Madea Goes to Jail,...

With only four nominations “The Emoji Movie” wasn’t the biggest contender at the 2018 Razzie Awards, but sometimes bad things come in small packages. Not only did it win Worst Picture, it swept all four of its categories. It also claimed Worst Director (Anthony Leondis), Worst Screenplay (Leondis, Eric Siegel and Mike White) and Worst Screen Combo (any two obnoxious emojis). This film, rated as the worst of the year on MetaCritic with a score of 12 out of 100, is the first animated movie to win the top prize. But the Razzies spread the wealth — or disdain — to several films in other categories.
The next biggest winner with two awards was “Fifty Shades Darker.” While its predecessor, “Fifty Shades of Grey” (2015), swept the awards with five victories two years ago including Worst Picture, “Darker” got off easier by only claiming Worst Supporting Actress (Kim Basinger, with her first win after seven nominations) and Worst Remake,...

With two strong holdovers in “Doctor Strange” and “Trolls,” two strong openers with “Arrival” and “Almost Christmas,” and a boost from the Veteran’s Day holiday, grosses shot up again over last year. Still, success wasn’t across the board. EuropaCorp failed again as a standalone distributor in the U.S. market with “Shut In,” a thriller starring Naomi Watts that couldn’t even hit $4 million.

Last weekend saw the top twelve outperform the previous year by a whopping +134.6%, a dramatic improvement after a sluggish October and Fall movie season. Fortunately, this weekend is looking like it too will show an improvement over the same weekend last year with a pair of holdovers leading the charge as Doctor Strange and Fox's Trolls are looking at another one-two finish. Among the week's new releases, Paramount's Arrival is looking at an opening that could even surpass the most optimistic predictions followed by Universal's holiday comedy Almost Christmas and EuropaCorp's thriller Shut In. Meanwhile, Sony will debut Ang Lee's Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk in just two theaters before going nationwide this weekend and A24 is expanding Moonlight into 176 theaters (+93) as it continues its impressive run in limited release. After an $85 million opening last weekend, Disney and Marvel's Doctor Strange should be looking at a second weekend drop right around 53% or so.

Sony's Inferno experienced an opening weekend meltdown as the third film in the Robert Langdon series fell $10 million shy of expectations. Meanwhile, Disney and Marvel's Doctor Strange stormed the international box office. Saturday Am Update: Sony's Inferno is looking at a weekend opening well below expectations after taking in an estimated $5.6 million on Friday from 3,576 domestic locations. It was enough for a first place finish on Friday and it looks as if it will take the #1 spot for the weekend somewhere around $16 million, but Lionsgate's Boo! A Madea Halloween is proving formidable. The Tyler Perry holiday comedy brought in an estimated $4.59 million on Friday and is expected to bring in a strong $15 million for the three-day, a drop right around 47%. Meanwhile, Jack Reacher: Never Go Back is looking at a much steeper drop than projected. The film brought in an estimated $2.9 million on Friday and is looking at a second weekend around $9.7 million, a 58% drop. Fip's limited release of Ae Dil Hai Mushkil is looking strong already with an estimated $765,000 on Friday, heading toward a weekend that could top $2.5 million and a top ten finish.

Fulfilling audiences’ seasonal desires to get good and scared by how teenagers talk these days, Boo! A Madea Halloween blustered its way to the top of the box office this weekend, where it slapped its competitors around like a 17-year-old caught with beer. Tyler Perry’s seventh Madea-branded film—and the character’s ninth movie overall—took in $27.6 million across 2,260 theaters, reversing a slight downward trajectory for the franchise that saw A Madea Christmas debut at just $16 million back in 2013. The comparatively scarce competition of Halloween-themed fare no doubt helped, as did the three years off, an absence that only made the heart grow fonder of Tyler Perry berating people in a dress. Analysts are also crediting a viral skit where Madea talked to Jimmy Fallon’s Trump, as well as the casting of various back-sassing kids with heavy social media followings—all ...

This weekend’s openers did not look like standouts on paper. But two star vehicles, Tyler Perry’s “Boo! A Madea Halloween” (Lionsgate) and Tom Cruise’s “Jack Reacher: Never Look Back” (Paramount), both exceeded their expected $20 million openings. The reason? They gave moviegoers, who may be feeling a tad rattled during this tempestuous election season, something familiar and safe.
Add in the middling “Ouija: Origin of Evil” (Universal) and the flop “Keeping Up With the Joneses” (20th Century Fox) and the unusually heavy release schedule (before the must-to-avoid Halloween weekend) reversed recent sliding gross totals. Temporary? We’ll see. But it’s better news for sure.

There is plenty to discuss in a weekend where Lionsgate's Boo! A Madea Halloween is crowned champion of the largest three-day weekend the 2016 box office has seen in over two months. Boo!, along with fellow new releases Jack Reacher: Never Go Back, Ouija: Origin of Evil and Keeping Up with the Joneses, generated 61.6% of the top twelve's overall gross of nearly $114 million, up 28% from last weekend and up 20% from last year. The weekend also saw a stellar opening for A24's Moonlight in limited release, delivering the largest opening per theater average of the year, and there are plenty of overseas results to discuss. Topping the weekend box office, Tyler Perry's Boo! A Madea Halloween brought in a stellar $27.6 million from 2,260 theaters ($12,212 PTA), the largest opening for a Madea branded feature and for a Tyler Perry-directed film overall since 2009's Madea Goes to Jail. As far as Madea-branded titles are concerned,...

Four new wide releases this weekend should help propel the top twelve over $100 million this weekend and, for the first time in six weeks, show improvement over the same weekend last year. This weekend is also going big with sequels, delivering three of them including Tom Cruise returning as the title star in Jack Reacher: Never Go Back, the horror sequel Ouija: Origin of Evil and Tyler Perry's latest outing as Madea in Boo! A Madea Halloween. Fox will also be releasing the ensemble comedy Keeping Up with the Joneses and Pure Flix is releasing the faith-based, Columbine drama I'm Not Ashamed into just over 500 theaters. Overall the weekend top twelve should come in around $100-105 million if all goes as forecasted. At the top, it would be a nice win for Paramount should they land a #1 finish with Jack Reacher: Never Go Back. The studio has had a rough go this year,...

Four new wide studio releases open Friday, but they promise a weekend of meh. Three are sequels — “Jack Reacher: Never Go Back” (Paramount), “Boo: A Madea Halloween,” and “Ouija: Origin of Evil” (Universal) — and will likely fall in the mid-teen millions or slightly higher. The lone original, 20th Century Fox’s “Keeping Up With the Joneses,” likely won’t reach even $10 million.
The Top 10 total should match the $91 million of last year. That’s not an impressive figure, but it’s enough to halt the decline of recent weeks. And, the four films have relatively modest budgets; their domestic takes and/or foreign appeal should keep the red ink from staining.

After a three-year hiatus, Tyler Perry’s most famous creation returns this fall. “Boo! A Madea Halloween” marks the ninth movie in the ongoing series, as well as the second-consecutive holiday-themed installment after 2013’s “A Madea Christmas.” The poster for Perry’s latest is now out, and John Carpenter fans will instantly recognize it as an homage to “Halloween.”

Stretch I don't know what happened at Universal when it came to Joe Carnahan's Stretch, but they really decided to bury it. They didn't market it, delayed it's release date, tried to dump it, finally released it as a streaming only title and now it comes to DVD (no Blu-ray) without any notice. I didn't know it was coming out today until ten minutes before posting this article. As anyone that reads this site regularly knows, I liked this movie. It's a batsh*t fun good time, give my review a read and see if it's up your alley.
The Giver I just have no interest in this film and that's a little weird I think considering it's directed by Phillip Noyce and stars the likes of Meryl Streep and Jeff Bridges, but I just can't bring myself to be interested.

Have you ever wondered what A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas might look like if Pax (now Ion) TV remade it? Well, wonder no more thanks to Kirk Cameron's Saving Christmas. The trailer for this limited release "comedy" can be watched below, and it plays like the raunchy holiday laffer minus the drug use, cursing, violence, sex, and debauched child star Neil Patrick Harris. Instead, you get child star turned evangelist Kirk Cameron, saving Christmas. Fandango drew our attention to this soon-to-open Christmas movie, and the title has us asking, is it Kirk Cameron's Saving Christmas like Tyler Perry's A Madea Christmas? Or is it like Kirk Cameron Is Saving Christmas? Really it may be both, as it's not just a movie fronted by the former star of Growing Pains, but also one in which he plays a character named Kirk. Kirk Cameron's Saving Christmas takes on...

Edge of Tomorrow One of the year's blockbusters that I would say is worthy of considering buying though be on the lookout for a movie titled Live. Die. Repeat. as that is the new branding this Tom Cruise sci-fi actioner is going by on DVD and Blu-ray shelves. Otherwise, not only do I consider this to be one of the best blockbusters of the year, I'd say it's one of the best movies of 2014 as well. Top tenc Eh, not so sure, but definitely worth your time.
Million Dollar Arm Rental time... at best. This isn't a very good movie and I'm not sure how it has a "fresh" RottenTomatoes score, but I guess if you lower your expectations far enough you'll be satisfied.

A lot of Hollywood experts must be scratching their heads in befuddlement this morning.
The weekend box office was supposed to be dominated by 3D racing video game adaptation "Need for Speed," which was expected to open in the upper $20 millions. Opening in second place was supposed to be "Tyler Perry's The Single Moms Club," which was expected to open around $20 million, as his comedies usually do. And last week's cartoon "Mr. Peabody & Sherman," which debuted in second place, was expected to be in the mix, losing about a third of last week's business to finish around $20 million and land in second or third place.
Of these movies, only "Peabody" behaved as expected, thereby winning by default with an estimated $21.2 million, for a not-bad two-weekend total of $63.2 million. Last week's chart-topper, "300: Rise of an Empire," also performed more or less as predicted, losing nearly 60 percent of last week's...

Video game adaptation Need for Speed wasn't fast enough to take the checkered flag this weekend. Instead, first place went to DreamWorks Animation's Mr. Peabody & Sherman. In its second weekend, Mr. Peabody fell 32 percent to $21.8 million. That's a better hold than last March's The Croods (39 percent), and also a slight improvement over How to Train Your Dragon (34 percent). To date, Mr. Peabody has earned $63.8 million; with good word-of-mouth and a lack of competition, it should reach $100 million by the end of the month.300: Rise of an Empire plummeted 57 percent to $19.2 million. In comparison, the first 300 dropped 54 percent in its second outing. So far, the sequel has banked $78.4 million at the domestic box office.Playing at 3,118 locations, Need for Speed opened in third place with $17.8 million. That's a somewhat disappointing start: it's lower than the worst Fast & Furious movie (Tokyo Drift, $24 million), and is roughly on par with past...

His movies might not be critical favorites, but Tyler Perry is one of the most successful filmmakers of the past decade. Obviously he does have a lot of fans, and those fans must have a pick for which is the best among his more than a dozen directorial efforts. That doesn't even include his 2005 breakout, Diary of a Mad Black Woman, which he scripted based on his own play, and through which he introduced cinema to an immediately iconic character in Madea, yet did not direct. Since then, he's helmed all the Madea movies, including last December's A Madea Christmas. Here are some interesting stats about the popularity of Perry's movies: - His only movie to have a positive Rotten Tomatoes ranking via critics' reviews is 2009's I Can Do Bad...

In total, Perry has produced 16 films (including Smc) from the ongoing Madea franchise to stand-alones, such as Temptation and Why Did I Get Married? All of the films have been met with varying degrees of praise and success. But who has actually sat down and watched all of them? Inspired by that question, I decided to review all of Perry’s film in order to grade and rank each film.
To see how they fall in order (from worst to best), flip through the gallery above. For a more in-depth, critical analysis keep on reading!

(Cbr) "Movie 43" and "After Earth" were the big “winners” at the Razzies last night, with each film taking home three trophies from the awards ceremony that “honors” the worst movies of 2013. "Movie 43", which featured Hugh Jackman, Dennis Quaid, Kate Winslet, Seth MacFarlane, Chris Pratt, Emma Stone and many more big Hollywood stars in various short films being pitched to studios by a washed-up producer, took home the award for Worst Picture, Worst Screenplay and Worst Director — or directors, as the film had 13. "After Earth", the science fiction film directed by M. Night Shyamalan that starred Will and Jaden Smith, took home the awards for Worst Lead Actor, Worst Supporting Actor and Worst Screen Combo for the father-son duo. Tyler Perry won his eighth Razzie for Worst Actress for "A Madea Christmas", where he once again performed in drag, while Kim Kardashian took the Worst Supporting Actress statue for...

I’m talking about the 34th Annual Razzie Awards. They were started in 1980 by John Wilson to celebrate the movie year’s worst achievements. You know, the Oscars weren’t the only major awards to be handed out this past weekend! On Saturday, the 34th Annual Razzie Awards were announced in a ceremony at IgnitedSpaces in Hollywood. While the Academy Awards celebrate the very best that Hollywood has to offer, these make a point of highlighting the worst.
While many expected Grown Ups 2 to walk away with the majority of the prestigious Golden Raspberry statues, it was in fact the even worse Movie 43 which would end up the big winner (or should that be loser?) of the night.
Will Smith and his son Jaden would end up taking away prizes for both “Worst Actor” and “Worst Supporting Actor”, a sharp contrast to eight years ago when both were praised for their performances in The Pursuit of Happyness. Many of his fans still right believe that the older Smith has an Oscar in his future,...

As the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences gears up to reward 2013's worthiest films at tonight's Oscars, the Golden Raspberry Award Foundation took a moment on Saturday night to recognize film achievement on the other end of the spectrum at the 34th Annual Razzie Awards.

The results are in! The Golden Raspberry Award Foundation released its amusing list of "winners" at the 34rd Annual Razzie Awards on Saturday (March 1).
Detailing the award "winners," the announcement reads as follows: "The 'winners' of the 34th Awards have been unveiled in ceremonies held at Hollywood's coolest new venue — just down the street from Sunday night's Oscars — IgnitedSpaces. The hour long show handed out at least one statuette to four of the five Worst Picture nominees, but Adam Sandler and his unfunny follow up 'Grown Ups 2' went home empty-handed.
Continuing, the Razzie report read, "Taking three of the top awards was the star-studded, snicker-free sketch comedy "Movie 43," which 'won' for Worst Screenplay (written by at least 19 people), Worst Director ('credited' to 13 people), and Worst Picture. Tying with '43', and also 'winning' 3 gold spray-painted trophies, was the Jaden and Will Smith sci-fi fiasco, 'After Earth.

Big-budget sci-fi flop After Earth and ensemble comedy Movie 43 led the Razzie awards on Saturday, while annual favourite Adam Sandler went home empty-handed at the ceremony that mauls Hollywood's worst films and performances of the year.
After Earth, starring Will Smith and his teenage son Jaden, picked up three gold spray-painted raspberry accolades: Jaden Smith for worst actor, Will Smith for worst supporting actor and worst screen combo for the father-son stars.
The $130m (£78m) film, co-written by Will Smith and directed by M Night Shyamalan, was a major flop for Sony's Columbia Pictures last year, grossing just $60m at the Us and Canadian box office.

Right before the Academy Awards announces its winners, the 34th Annual Razzie Awards has unveiled the list of its own winners for the worst achievement in film for 2013. Taking the prize for the Worst Picture of the year is "Movie 43," beating out such films as "After Earth," "Grown Ups 2," "The Lone Ranger" and "A Madea Christmas." The movie also won for Worst Director and Worst Screenplay. The theme of this year's Razzies focused on the Smith family, with Jaden Smith winning Worst Actor and Will Smith winning for Worst Supporting Actor for "After Earth." The father-son team also won in the Worst Screen Combo category. The only good news is that Adam Sandler and his "Grown Ups 2" went some how ignored, despite dominating the awards show for two straight years. Check out the full list of nominees and winners (in red) below. Worst Picture: * Movie 43 * After Earth...
