"Resident Evil: The Final Chapter" is the final installment in the Resident Evil live-action film series. However, In May 2017, Constantin chairman Martin Moszkowicz (Martin Moszkowicz) said that a reboot of the film series was in development. In the same month, it was announced that James Wan (James Wan) would produce the reboot with a script by Greg Russo. In December 2018, Johannes Roberts (Johannes Roberts) was hired as writer/director and Wan left the project to helm a reboot of Mortal Kombat (Mortal Kombat (2021)). In August 2019, Roberts told Screen Rant that the reboot would be "super, super scary" and more faithful to the games.

The Hive was around five miles underground. Raccoon City was destroyed, but the Hive would still be standing. At this point, the Spencer Mansion is still standing in movie continuity as well, meaning they could easily use that side entrance to get to The Hive if they weren't able to get in through the main entrance that was in Raccoon City.
