This was a fun episode, I think it is an example of what the Rookie does best, showing the characters as a family. There is a heat wave that causes electrical shortages and that produces several problems, nothing to major. Other cases produced while everyone is secretely trying to find a way to get Tim a better job. Now I am curious about how that story will progress.
I do thing a few of the things that happened were too far-fetched, but this is TV, not real life. I can live with that as long as it is fun. The only thing I did not like was Nolan being so worried about his own evaluation. It felt a little out of character, as Nolan is normally quite selfless.

Best cold open of the show. A practicing garage band annoys Nolan with an hilariously catchy hook during a traffic stop, and Juarez can't get the tune out of her head.
This is the kind of light-hearted, down-to-earth silliness that the show does best. It is really nice to see that after 2+ solid seasons of incessant shark jumping, the writers can still find an occasional pitch-perfect scene or two.
More of this, please. Skip the "real crime" mockumentaries, the over-the-top serial killer action hero schlock, and the absurd doppelgänger contrivances. Give me back the mundane beat-cop aphorisms and amiable banter that have always been as hard to ignore as this opening song.
