Topic, the content studio owned by First Look Media, announced on Thursday that it will finance Oscar-nominated cinematographer Rodrigo Prieto’s feature directorial debut.
Bastard is based on a script by Bill Gullo and principal photography is set to begin in the first quarter of 2018.
The revenge thriller is set against a looming flood that will ravage the small town of Bird’s Point, Missouri. Wme Global brokered the deal and will represent the film for North America.

Cinematographer Rodrigo Prieto, who has "The Wolf of Wall Street" opening wide on Christmas Day, recently completed the disturbing eight-minute short "Likeness," starring Elle Fanning, and it's well worth a watch. The almost dialogue-free film, which had its world premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival earlier this year, was inspired by Prieto's daughter's bout with an eating disorder. For short films, the Tribeca Film Festival is a must. Winning the award for Narrative Short or Best Documentary Short automatically qualifies a film for the Academy Awards.
