Nine years ago, writer/director Jason Krawczyk brought the world the horror comedy He Never Died, which introduced viewers to a badass immortal character named Jack (played by Henry Rollins), who had been around for thousands of years. This character had franchise potential that Krawczyk and Rollins were well aware of; they were planning to continue his story through a feature sequel and an eight episode mini-series. But for some reason, they were never able to get a follow-up off the ground, and Krawczyk’s sequel script ended up being rewritten into a film called She Never Died, which focused on a different character and wasn’t directed by Krawczyk. According to online trivia, the action comedy thriller Don’t Mess with Grandma (which Krawczyk wrote and directed under his preferred title of Sunset Superman) is a project that grew out of the filmmaker’s frustration over the He Never Died franchise not gaining traction.

The episode of Revisited covering Wrong Turn 2: Dead End was Written by Emilie Black, Edited by Juan Jimenez, Narrated by Niki Minter, Produced by Tyler Nichols and John Fallon, and Executive Produced by Berge Garabedian.
A long, long time ago, in a state deep in the woods, a bunch of people were eaten by cannibal hillbillies in a film called Wrong Turn. Soon, the locals to where the film was taking place got very angry about the depiction of their fellow mountain and wood residents, which they thought gave them a bad name. Horror fans responded by seeing the film anyways, making it a minor hit. The first film had a budget of $12.6 million and made $28.7 million at the box office. While this may lead to a sequel at times, it was not a given. Fast forward to 4 years later and we are gifted with the first of a long series of sequels.

That film was He Never Died, the Henry Rollins-starring vampire movie that was easily one of the best films I’d seen that year. Happy October, boils and ghouls! Now that our favorite month has officially kicked off, that means many of us are putting together a list of must-watch movies to get into the Halloween spirit. With that in mind, this writer has once again pulled together a varied list of 31 (well, technically more than 31, but who can resist cheating a bit when it comes to horror movies?) films that are currently streaming on Netflix that should undoubtedly get you primed for the big day on October 31st.
It’s worth noting that several great titles not included on this list are making their way to Netflix during October that would also make for great Scary Movie Month additions, including Cult of Chucky on 10/3, Raw on 10/4, and the Stephen King adaptation 1922 on 10/20, with season 2 of Stranger Things kicking off on 10/27.

One of my favourite films from last years Grimmfest was the stunning vampire movie come theological horror He Never Died, (review) which sees Henry Rollins play Jack, a social outcast, who is thrust out of his comfort zone when the outside world bangs on his door and he can’t contain his violent past. Welcome back to This Week In Discs where we check out tomorrow’s new releases today! He Never Died Jack (Henry Rollins) is something of a loner. He eats at the same diner every day, he plays Bingo at the same church every week, and he meets the same immoral hospital intern every few days to buy… something. He has little need for anyone else but that begins to change when two women come into his life. Cara is a waitress at the diner, and while Jack is a man of few words he’s still managed to hit it off with her to some small degree. Andrea’s face is brand new to him, but an angry phone call from an old fling he hasn’t heard from in roughly nineteen years informs him that the girl at his door is his daughter. His life suddenly grows busier and far more complicated, and...

It sounds like we already have our first great horror movie of 2016. Following its much talked about screenings at Sundance, the Farsi-language horror movie Under The Shadow is set for a worldwide release, thanks to Vertical Entertainment, Netflix, and Xyz Films:

Hi Everyone! I hope you’ve had a great 2015 – at the very least, survived, and can stumble into the New Year with renewed vigor and reduced credit card charges. For me, 2015 was pretty great overall, especially as this website took a chance on a Canucklehead who loves to write about horror. So before I get started I’d like to give a shout out to the amazing folks at Daily Dead: Jonathan, Heather, Derek, Patrick, Monte, and Tamika (and if I’ve forgotten anyone, I apologize). Great writers and horror junkies, all, but more importantly – great people. Thanks everyone for letting me do my thing. Without any ado, my faves of 2015!

I’m not sure if it’s because I had the opportunity to see and watch more this year, but to me, 2015 seems like it was such an exceptional year for genre films across the board. Once again, indie horror gave us a bevy of incredible films from a variety of subgenres, and even studio films seemed to step things up this year as well (a trend I do hope continues). Here’s a look at some of my favorite genre offerings from this year:
Turbo Kid: One of two movies in 2015 that left me with a huge, goofy-ass grin on my face from start to finish was Turbo Kid, the wickedly fun post-apocalyptic story of a young hero, an evil warlord, a quirky sidekick and her gnome stick. From its synth score to its unforgettable characters to its over-the-top gore to its ginormous, genre-loving heart, Turbo Kid is...

There are bucket lists... and then there's Henry Rollins' bucket list. After rising to notoriety as the lead singer of Black Flag in the '80s, Rollins has built on his punk legacy to become one of America's most unique cultural filters. And to his ever-growing list of accomplishments, he can now add movie star. As the immortal antihero Jack in Jason Krawczyk's "He Never Died," Rollins' role allowed him to bring his rigorous work ethic to yet another creative endeavor. On this week's episode of Indiewire Influencers, Rollins speaks with Indiewire Editor in Chief Dana Harris about the mental training and the wide swath of life experiences necessary to maintain his kind of output. As a veteran of auditions, Rollins says he's intimately familiar with the process of being rejected from any number of potential gigs. "You better know some failure. Otherwise, you become brittle. You gotta...

Well here it is, my Top 15 films of 2015. If you’ve ever read one of my end of year lists, you’ll know that my choices tend to be a million miles away from the mainstream; and this year is no different! This year has been Amazing for films, I could easily had penned a list of 52 films – one for each week of the year – but instead I managed to narrow down the choices to 28 films quite swiftly. However, to hit this years target of a Top 15 (for 2015 geddit?) it took a hell of a lot of work. I think this list even surprises me – there’s a number of films that going back over the 508[!] films we’ve reviewed here on Nerdly in 2015, at the time I reviewed them, I didn’t expect would stay with me till the end of the very end of the year. Oh, and...

Henry Rollins stars in the action-comedy He Never Died, which just opened in select theaters in the U.S. over the weekend, and is also available to watch via various Video On Demand platforms. We have an exclusive clip to share -- it's definitely Nsfw (Not Safe For Work), hide the kids -- featuring Rollins jumping into a body of water with an unwilling companion, and then Nsfw language is expressed, leading to a few more Nsfw moments. (Did I mention that it's Not Safe For Work?) I haven't seen the movie yet, but our own Zach Gayne checked it out at SXSW earlier this year and commented thusly: Rollins plays an eternity-old lug named Jack, who, suffice it to say, is lately feeling a little...

As people strive to find and hold onto a meaningful purpose in their work and relationships, they often find it difficult to simply define the overall objectives in their lives. So they often determinedly set out to describe and showcase their strengths, in a powerful attempt to validate their existence and merits. Actor Henry Rollins profoundly highlighted his persistence in telling an equally emotional and action-driven horror story in his new film, ‘He Never Died,’ which Vertical Entertainment released this weekend in theaters and On Demand and on iTunes. The movie features the actor portraying a complex anti-hero who’s dedicated to finding the significance in his own life, particularly when [ Read More ]

The expansion of numerous release platforms over the past few years has opened up several avenues for genre films to be released, whether it’s VOD, direct to streaming, or other sources. However, being able to see a movie in theatres, revelling in it with other strangers who share the same taste, remains the optimal way to experience genre features. It is this experience that the people behind the horror film He Never Died are hoping to create with their film, and have thus turned to Indiegogo to fund a theatrical release for the feature.
He Never Died stars genre staple Henry Rollins, who has previously appeared in genre films such as Wrong Turn 2 and The Devil’s Tomb, as he takes on the lead role this time, playing Jack the immortal cannibal. Jason Krawczyk both wrote and directed the film, and the official indiegogo description is as follows.

Seemingly unable to die, Jack (Henry Rollins) spends his immortal days playing bingo and consuming human blood. But Jack's routine is interrupted when his daughter is kidnapped, as teased in the official red band trailer for He Never Died. Along with the new trailer, the supernatural noir has also launched an Indiegogo campaign to help expand its upcoming theatrical release.
He Never Died is slated for a December 18th release in select theaters. Should the film achieve its $50,000 fundraising goal, it will reach a wider audience when its release date arrives.
Written and directed by Jason Krawczyk, He Never Died stars Henry Rollins, Booboo Stewart, Steven Ogg, Jordan Todosey, James Cade, Michael Cram, and Dan Petronijevic.
