One would think the good people at Lionsgate might be trying to hide Greedy People by quietly announcing its release in theaters this month, just last week. The Lily James and Joseph Gordon-Levitt vehicle came out on August 23rd with very little fanfare. Not to mention, August (and January) are known as the dumping grounds for films studios are ashamed of.

However, I am relieved to set the record straight: Greedy People is a bloody good time. The film is full of quirky characters, ominous motivations, and moral ambiguity, exploring how ordinary people can be driven to acts of money lust and even murder—all while maintaining the core value of these types of films, where almost no one gets away clean.

Watertower Music has announced the release of “The Batman”, the compelling new theme from director Matt Reeves’ “The Batman,” starring Robert Pattinson in the dual role of Gotham City’s vigilante detective and his alter ego, reclusive billionaire Bruce Wayne.

The theme was created by Academy-, Emmy- and Grammy Award winning composer Michael Giacchino and is the first music to be made available from Giacchino’s upcoming The Batman (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack).

DC FanDome: Hall of Heroes wrapped up with a 30-minute discussion with director Matt Reeves about The Batman, and it did not disappoint. The first of the month is always a big day for streaming services, as that’s when the bulk of their new content for that month tends to hit, with the rest being dished out in small batches over the following weeks. Whiplash Oscar winner J.K. Simmons is attached to star in director Mark Palansky’s dark comedy/heist thriller My Only Sunshine from Circle of Confusion and Patriot Pictures. John Cusack is also in talks to join.

In the film, written by J.T. Petty and K. Reed Petty, Cusack plays one half of a passionately dysfunctional couple, who orchestrate a bank robbery as an unconventional act of bloodthirsty marriage counseling. Trying to make peace with the shocking mystery of their relationship throughout a violent hostage situation, is a cop hostage negotiator (Simmons), who previously investigated a past related murder.

Circle of Confusion‘s Matt Smith and Lawrence Mattis, and Michael Mendelsohn from Patriot Pictures are producing. Mendelsohn’s Union Patriot Capital Management, LLC is fully financing the project. J.T. Petty, Natalie Perrotta, and Jim Steele will be executive producing. Xyz Films and Patriot are handling global sales now at Berlin.

Simon Pegg and J.K. Simmons are set to star in Mark Palansky’s comedy heist thriller “My Only Sunshine,” which will be introduced to buyers at the upcoming Toronto International Film Festival.

“My Only Sunshine” was written by J.T. Petty and K. Reed Petty and is produced by Circle of Confusion’s Matt Smith and Lawrence Mattis, and Michael Mendelsohn from Patriot Pictures. Executive producers are Natalie Perrotta and Jim Steele. Xyz will handle worldwide sales at Tiff and co-represent with ICM partners. The film is supposed to begin production this fall.

The film follows a dysfunctional couple that orchestrates a bank robbery as a form or marriage counseling. A violent hostage situation makes the pair confront their marital problems.

We may only have several home entertainment releases for this Tuesday, but as the saying goes, “quality over quantity,” because this bunch of Blu-rays and DVDs are a stellar lot of films. One of my favorite horror films of 2017, Mark Duplass’ Creep 2, makes its way home on November 28th courtesy of The Orchard, and Scream Factory has given Rob Reiner’s adaptation of Stephen King’s Misery the Collector’s Edition treatment (and deservedly so).

There's still a Beetlejuice sequel in the offing - and it even has a new writer...

They just won't let Beetlejuice die. Warner Bros. has been trying to get Beetlejuice 2 off the ground almost since the original hit theaters, with the project going through any number of different iterations over the last nearly 30 years. Despite the fact that sequels this belated don't make the most sense under the very best of circumstances, let alone when one features characters who are dead and therefore shouldn't be aging anymore, there are still plans to get Beetlejuice 2 made with both Michael Keaton and Tim Burton.

Over the past few years, there's been a lot of talk about a sequel to Tim Burton's classic film Beetlejuice. It looked like it was actually really close to happening in 2016. In one day Tim Burton said that film was ready to start shooting and then a few hours later said it wasn't in development. We haven't really heard anything regarding the movie since, other than Michael Keaton saying, "it's possible that ship has sailed."

Now today it's being reported that Warner Bros. is putting Beetlejuice 2 back into development and they've hired Mike Vukadinovich (Rememory) to rewrite the script that was originally written by Seth Grahame-Smith (Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter). 

Burton is currently working on Dumbo for Disney, so maybe Warner Bros. is looking to get Beetlejuice 2 into a place of development where Burton can jump on board and direct when he's done with Dumbo.

Mike Vukadinovich has been tasked with resurrecting Beetlejuice 2 from the brink of irrelevancy.

Deadline has the scoop, confirming that Vukadinovich has been drafted in to pen a new treatment for the long-in-development sequel. Neither Tim Burton nor Michael Keaton have signed on just yet, though Deadline is reporting that both director and star are interested in revisiting the genre oddity of ’88, possibly courting Winona Ryder back to the Netherworld in the process.

It’s worth pointing out that Burton and Keaton are currently working together on the live-action Dumbo that is poised to take flight at Disney, thereby joining a long list of reimagined fairytales that includes everything from Mulan to Jon Favreau’s star-studded rendition of The Lion King. For Beetlejuice 2, though, the project currently has Seth Grahame-Smith and David Katzenberg of KatzSmith Productions on board to produce, but beyond that, there’s not much to report at this early,...

Just in time for Halloween, Beetlejuice 2 has picked up some new life at Warner Bros.

Mike Vukadinovich is rewriting the horror comedy, a follow-up to the 1988 feature that starred Michel Keaton as a bespoke ghost that tries to drive a family from their new home. Alec Baldwin, Geena Davis and Winona Ryder also starred in the Tim Burton-directed feature.

Written and directed by Mark Palansky (most notable for his charming modern fairytale Penelope), the movie stars Dinklage as an investigator who is hired by a widow, Julia Ormond, to investigate the murder of her husband, the man behind a new technology which allows individuals to re-live memories.

A great new trailer has been released for Peter Dinklage's upcoming film Rememory. It looks like a really good and thrilling sci-fi mystery! I'm a big fan of Dinklage and this looks like an awesome role for him. The movie also stars the late Anton Yelchin, along with Martin Donovan (Ant-Man, Insomnia), Julia Ormond (Mad Men, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button), and Henry Ian Cusick (Lost, The 100).

I didn't get a chance to see this movie when it premiered at Sundance earlier this year, but I heard good things about it. I'll definitely be checking it out when it's released! It looks like the kind of movie that I'd enjoy.

Peter Dinklage’s starring role in the thriller Rememory is now being showcased in a trailer for its upcoming wide release, after having debuted at the Sundance Film Festival back in January.

Scythia Films and Stellar Citizens have partnered on a development fund targeting film and television projects originating in the Us, Canada and Europe.

The Toronto-based companies expect to build a slate of five to seven projects over the next 12 months. The fund is bankrolled by a Canadian private investor who already backs Stellar Citizens’ film financing business.

The first project to go is an adaptation of Mark Vonnegut’s The Eden Express: A Memoir Of Insanity. Set in the 1970s, the book chronicles Vonnegut’s experiences on a commune as he begins to struggle with bipolar disorder, receives help from his famous father and author Kurt Vonnegut, and goes on to establish a paediatric practice in the Boston area.

It’s hard to imagine it’s been a year since we lost Anton Yelchin, who passed away June 19, 2016 at age 27 after a freak car accident. Because Yelchin continued to be a memorable face on the big screen over the past year in “Star Trek Beyond” and in festival entries like “Porto” and “Thoroughbred,” his death still hits like a shock to the system. He still feels very much like an active member of the film community, a feeling that will probably remain as he has more posthumous films waiting to be released.

Game Of Thrones mainstay Peter Dinklage will star opposite Alexander Skarsgard as a Machiavellian right-hand man in $14m renaissance action film The Dwarf.

Brad Anderson, renowned for his work on edgy fare like The Machinist, Transsiberian and The Call, is on board to direct from a screenplay he wrote with Lyn Vaus.

Rememory was one of the films I was most excited to see at Sundance. The brief description I read really stood out to me, and I’m a huge fan of Peter Dinklage. Combined with the fact that this was one of Anton Yelchin’s final films, I was anxious to see it. I think my hopes were too high because I’ll admit I was a little disappointed.

Rememory tells the story of Sam (Dinklage), a lonely model-maker with a regrettable past.
