Few cinematic characters have left as big of an impression as Ellen Ripley, Sigourney Weaver’s iconic “Alien” survivor, who led four films in the franchise and left behind some massive shoes to fill for everyone who’s come since. In “Alien: Romulus,” that’s a young cast of franchise newcomers, led by “Priscilla” and “Civil War” star Cailee Spaeny.
Directed by “Don’t Breathe” and “Evil Dead” filmmaker Fede Álvarez, the latest installment heads back between the events of “Alien” and “Aliens,” introducing a young group of friends desperate to escape their grungy mining colony. You will, of course, recognize the Xenomorph — H.R. Giger’s inimitable alien creature — but for everyone else, here’s a handy guide to the “Alien: Romulus” cast and characters.

Alien: Romulus star Archie Renaux is back on land with sights set on a new earthly venture — a production company in partnership with Arjun Rose. The two didn’t have to search far and wide for a name of their new initiative by calling it A2R2.
Renaux and Rose met in 2016 at The Unseen, an acting academy and management firm founded by Rose. After Renaux walked through its doors, one of the first students to do so, they formed a bond that began as teacher-peer before morphing into professional status as manager, friend and cheerleader in helping Renaux launch his acting career and secure additional reps at the Artists Partnership.
Renaux said he’s stoked to take their partnership to the next level. “The journey began in the classroom, where Arjun was writing and directing scenes that I was acting in, and we were filming them together on an iPhone,...

Back in 2013, director Fede Alvarez revitalized the much-loved horror franchise Evil Dead, delivering an edition that paid homage to its predecessors whilst injecting plenty of new life of its own. Just over ten years later, the director who also received acclaim for his original movie Don’t Breathe in 2016, aims to do the same thing with the Alien franchise. A passion project of his that stars Cailee Spaeny (Priscilla), Archie Renaux (Upgraded), David Jonsson (Rye Lane) and Isabela Merced (Instant Family), Alien: Romulus follows a group of young space colonizers who come face-to-face with the most terrifying form of life in the universe, whilst scavenging the deep ends of a derelict space station. Slotting beautifully in between Alien and Aliens and many decades after the events in Prometheus and Covenant, Alien: Romulus is a dread-inducing, tense and scary space horror with excellent performances, a concise story and tremendous use of practical effects.

A faux-elegant fable about how not to resolve your differences, made for dudes, by dudes, “The Duel” arrives at a time of intense division (and no small amount of scrutiny over gun use) in America. Releasing as a one-night-only screening via Iconic Events on July 31 before hitting streaming in August, the edgy comedy looks sharp enough, but lands like a rapier with a cork on it, as Dylan Sprouse and Callan McAuliffe play longtime besties who try to settle a dispute the old-timey way … by blowing each other away with pistols.
“The Duel” feels like a pretty clever idea at first, to the extent I found myself wondering why nobody had thought of it before, only to wind up asking why its two writer-directors didn’t think of it more. As it happens, my library contains no fewer than four books called “The Duel,” the shortest of which (by Joseph Conrad) runs a slender 112 pages,...

The film was first made in 2013 in the Malayalam language, before being remade in Hindi with Ajay Devgn and Tabu in the lead roles in 2015. It earned itself a Hindi sequel “Drishyam 2,” in 2022, that grossed some $43 million worldwide.
Panorama, which produced the Hindi version for Viacom18 Motion Pictures, has acquired the international remake rights to “Drishyam 1 & 2” from the original producers, Aashirvad Cinemas, and is settling up multiple international versions. Earlier this month, we learned that Game of Thrones cast members Sophie Turner and Kit Harington will be reuniting for writer/director Natasha Kermani’s Gothic horror film The Dreadful… and close on the heels of that announcement comes the news that Turner has also signed on to star in a psychological thriller called Trust, which is coming our way from Twisted Pictures, the production company behind the Saw franchise.
Twisted Pictures has secured a multi-picture deal with Republic Pictures, with Republic Pictures acquiring the worldwide rights to Trust. As The Hollywood Reporter notes, “The Paramount Global housed Republic Pictures was revived in 2023 as an acquisitions only label, and has a slate that includes Samara Weaving starrer Azreal and Jon Voight action film The Painter.” The Republic Pictures name goes back to 1935 and the days when the company was a standalone studio that specialized in serials, Westerns, and B-movies.

For most of her career, Camila Mendes has been known as Veronica Lodge. She portrayed the rich, confident high schooler on The CW’s “Riverdale” for six years, appearing in 136 of the 137 episodes before the series wrapped up last year. And now, she’s ready to put that behind her in order to show the world what else she can do.
“I’m sure I will be typecast — I think people are gonna offer me roles based off things that they’ve already seen me do. So it only’s natural that’s what would happen,” she tells Variety.
Which is part of the reason Mendes is attracted to projects she can also produce, and she’s both the star and an executive producer of “Upgraded,” a new romantic comedy that dropped on Amazon Prime Video’s on Feb. 9. In it, Mendes plays Ana, a young art intern who meets...

The treasure trove of young talent that emerged from The CW’s “Riverdale” is truly astonishing, and Camila Mendes is no exception. Her star power as both an actress in and executive producer of the immediately classic rom-com “Upgraded” takes the New York University alum to new heights.
While Mendes’ former “Riverdale” costars are flying high in their respective lanes, with Cole Sprouse stealing scenes even as a mute zombie in the Diablo Cody-penned “Lisa Frankenstein” to Charles Melton’s haunting, award-winning (yet Oscar-snubbed) performance in “May December,” Mendes has proven her own visionary chops in recent years. The star had a standout role in frothy high school dark comedy “Do Revenge” opposite Maya Hawke, and now holds her own alongside iconic actress Marisa Tomei in “Upgraded.”
Mendes’ likability (and relatability) almost mirrors Amanda Bynes’ Hollywood reign during the “She’s the Man” and “Sydney White” days. “Upgraded” is essentially “What a Girl Wants...

After becoming a household name with her popular role in ‘Riverdale’, actress Camila Mendes is all set to bowl fans over with her much-loved swoony charm. Playing Ana Santos, a broke but ambitious art curator intern from New York, Mendes will soon be seen in the upcoming Amazon Original movie ‘Upgraded’. The film takes viewers alongside the streets of London in this romantic comedy, where mistaken identities and luck-filled meet-cutes will steal their hearts this Valentine’s season.
Mendes, who also dons the hat of an executive producer for the film, felt an instant connection to Ana Santos and was excited to be fully involved in developing her character arc as well as the story.
“What I love most about starring in projects I also get to produce, is having more authority to weigh in on creative choices,” says Mendes.

Future Artists Entertainment (Fae) and U.K. studios network Versa Studios, which has hosted the likes of Marvel Studios’ Secret Invasion, have partnered in a film production hub joint venture for Versa’s facility in Leeds in Northern England, which they say will provide “a world-class filmmaking home, offering full production services and facilities.” The site currently includes four soundstages, ranging from 10,000 to 27,000 square feet, and will over time also add post-production and VFX services, as well as “outreach and educational programs.”
The space allows up to three productions to be ongoing at the same time, the partners said. Financial details of their deal weren’t disclosed.
Fae, founded in 2019 by Matt Williams and Martin Owen, said it has attracted more than $150 million in production spend since its inception, producing 14 films, two of them in conjunction with Versa in Manchester. It just wrapped Lionsgate survival thriller Above The Below, starring Idris Elba,...

The reel offers a glimpse of Gyllenhaal’s transformation and showcases his impressively muscular physique as he stands in the midst of what appears to be an underground fighting ring. The intensity continues to build as we witness his character engage in a thrilling encounter with a formidable group of adversaries in a dimly lit parking lot.
