After nearly two years, “Industry” is back for a third season. And this time around, the HBO drama is chronicling a financial saga that will pull its antiheroes into the upper echelons of the financial, political and media worlds.

Created by Mickey Down and Konrad Kay, “Industry” first premiered in 2020 as a steamy and high-stakes drama about a group of new hires at a top-tier London bank. Not all of those newbies lasted, but Down and Kay have found new ways to dive into this ever-stressful world. This season, they’re diving into the world of ethical investment through a new character played by Kit Harington.

HBO is stepping into uncharted programming waters.

The premium cabler has made the decision to drop the final five episodes of its drama “Industry” all at once on HBO Max. From Friday, Nov. 27, viewers will be able to streaming the whole eight-episode first season, while the linear showings continue on a weekly basis.

Sources with knowledge of the decision say that all the episodes were already finished, so releasing them en masse over Thanksgiving weekend is a play at drawing more attention to the series. News of the mid-season episode drop comes right after the third episode’s airing, and also only five days after the revelation that “Wonder Woman 1984” is being released both in theaters and on HBO Max the same day, as WarnerMedia experiments with different ways to boost its fledgling streamer’s subscriber count.

“Industry,” HBO’s upcoming drama about young professionals competing in a high-pressure banking company, has set a November 9 release date. The premium cabler released the trailer for the series on Friday.

Rufus Sewell will play Mark Easterbrook, a man trying to uncover the mystery of a list of names found on a dead woman, in the BBC’s latest series adaptation of an Agatha Christie novel, “The Pale Horse.” Kaya Scodelario (“Crawl”) will star as Hermia, Easterbrook’s girlfriend, in the two-parter for the BBC in the U.K. and Amazon in the U.S.

The cast also includes Bertie Carvel (“Doctor Foster”), Sean Pertwee (“Gotham”), Henry Lloyd-Hughes (“Killing Eve”), Poppy Gilbert (“Call the Midwife”), Madeleine Bowyer (“Black Mirror”) and Ellen Robertson (“Snowflake”).

Sarah Phelps (The Witness For The Prosecution) has scripted the two-part drama which has Amazon Prime Video on board as U.S. co-production partner and Endeavor Content aboard to handle international sales.

In the novel, a mysterious list of names is found in the shoe of a dead woman, and one of those named, Mark Easterbrook, begins an investigation into how and why his name came to be there. He is drawn to The Pale Horse, the home of a trio of rumoured witches in the small village of Much Deeping. Written by Kc Perry and directed by Jesse Peretz, Constance is a fun, darkly humorous, veneer-stripping story about one woman’s refusal to fade into obsolescence. It follows former beauty queen-turned-small town bureaucrat, Constance Young (Shue), whose life is thrown into turmoil after her husband’s mysterious death. Realizing she and her family are on the verge of financial ruin, Constance turns to cooking the books at City Hall, while simultaneously trying to reinvent herself through the hyper-competitive world of direct-sales cosmetics. Tom Hardy will be joined by Riz Ahmed in the upcoming Venom movie...

Work is set to begin in earnest soon on Venom, the first in Sony’s planned collection of Spider-Man spin-off movies. We already know that Tom Hardy has been cast in the lead role, and that Ruben Fleischer is going to direct the movie. It has a release date too of October 5th 2018 already earmarked.

Now we have a bit more casting news too. Riz Ahmed, recently seen in the likes of City Of Tiny Lights and Star Wars: Rogue One, is set to join the movie. He won’t be playing the movie’s villain, said to be Carnage, but his exact role in the film remains unconfirmed.

His office resides above some shops, he makes friendly with local convenience store owner Mrs. Elbaz (Myriam Acharki), and asks new clients where they found him because he’s not advertising in the paper.

I could watch Riz Ahmed in almost anything, but there are limits, tested here by this deeply mediocre British mystery thriller. Adapted by Patrick Neate from his 2005 novel, City of Tiny Lights is helmed by Pete Travis, who in 2012 nearly rescued Judge Dredd from comic book movie hell. But while Travis transposes some of Dredd’s style, he cannot bring its boldness, humour or efficiency.

Ahmed plays Tommy Akhtar, a “snoop” who is so underground that even his job description is unclear. Basically, he’s a private detective. Fresh out of Rogue One, HBO’s The Night Of, and a very welcome stint on Girls, Riz Ahmed’s got the good sense to be taking advantage of his current profile, spreading himself around and trying a few different things. City Of Tiny Lights is certainly different, in that no one really makes private-eye noirs anymore, but is significant mainly in that it shows Ahmed as a leading man whose presence can be banked on to get a few British bums on seats.

Horses should be held on that one, of course: you don’t expect it to smash any box-office records. But it marks a point in his career: he’s the star, and essentially the only reason anyone, other than big fans of director Pete Travis’ Dredd, is going to see it.

The BBC is likely to announce its new head of film within the next two weeks, according to sources close to the process.

That timetable should come as a relief to those under consideration for the role and to wider industry who will want to begin building or growing their relationship with the new boss.

The job, which is considered one of the UK’s most prestigious posts, became vacant in autumn 2016 following the departure of long-time chief Christine Langan. BBC Films veteran Joe Oppenheimer has been serving as acting head of film since then.

The incoming head of film is expected to have an annual war chest of around £12m for production, cementing BBC Films’ position as one the three mainstays of public funding in the UK along with the BFI and Film4.

After a major last year with The Night Of, Rogue One, and Jason Bourne this year, Riz Ahmed also brought a few films to Tiff. One of them was City of Tiny Lights, which comes from Dredd‘s Pete Travis, and follows Ahmed as a London detective who gets entangled in a missing-girl case as a complex web of lies bubble up. With the film picked up for U.K. distribution this April, the first neon-soaked trailer has now arrived.

Production has started on Cinestaan Film Company and Film London’s Shakespeare adaptation The Hungry, with a cast including Naseeruddin Shah and Tisca Chopra.

Written and directed by Bornila Chatterjee, the UK-India co-production is a contemporary retelling of Shakespeare’s Titus Andronicus, with the play’s themes of corruption, greed and revenge updated for a global audience.

Shah is known to international audiences for his roles in Monsoon Wedding and The League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen, while Chopra previously starred in Toronto title Qissa: The Tale Of A Lonely Ghost.

The San Diego International Film Festival kicked off this week and among the fantastic line-up is the intense and atmospheric thriller Red by Branko Tomovic (24, Fury, City of Tiny Lights), which also stars Dervla Kirwan (Ondine, Ballykissangel, The Silence, Doctor Who) and Francesca Fowler (Doctor Who, Rome, Closure). It's Branko's directing debut and tells the story of Niklas, a surgeon who lives a life of solitude and is tormented by self hatred. He performs regular illegal surgeries for the red market and works together with Mia, a young prostitute who lures her clients in and drugs them. Niklas is looking for a way out of this dark world, but owes his life to their violent crime boss Ed, who would rather kill him then let him go....

City of Tiny Lights is a noir inspired London thriller directed by Pete Travis, based on the novel by Patrick Neate which stars Riz Ahmed (currently to be seen on Netflix starring in the much-acclaimed The Night of), Cush Jumbo, and Billie Piper.

As the film moves through present day multicultural London, it also cuts back to Tommy's youth in 1997, telling the story of his friendship with a lad called Lovely (Antonio Aakeel), his mate Stuart (George Sargeant) and his growing love for Stuart's girlfriend, Shelley (Hannah Rae).

The filmmakers spent almost five months searching for the youngsters, cast by Celestia Fox. Beyond conventional casting methods they trawled youth clubs, theatre's and schools in search for the perfect young ensemble.

Playing the younger Riz Ahmed is newcomer Reiss Kershi-Hussain (represented by Shepherd Management) who had no previous acting experience before being cast as the impressionable young Tommy.

Across eight episodes this summer, Steve Zaillian and Richard Price showed there was lots of new life to be found in the crime procedural with “The Night Of.” Going deep into life behind bars and finding new perspectives exploring the machinations of law and order, the limited series also provided a breakout role for Riz Ahmed as the complicated unreliable protagonist around which the drama swirled.

His office resides above some shops, he makes friendly with local convenience store owner Mrs. Elbaz (Myriam Acharki), and asks new clients where they found him because he’s not advertising in the paper. Rachel Weisz is to star in and produce $15m kidnapping thriller Snatchback, from Dredd director Pete Travis.

Oscar-winner Weisz (The Constant Gardener) co-developed the project and will produce alongside Frida Torresblanco (Pan’s Labyrinth, Magic Magic) of New York-based Braven Films.

Travis, also known for making Omagh and Vantage Point, has written the script and will direct.

Snatchback is based on the true story of Maureen Dabbagh, a woman from Virginia whose ex-husband stole away their two year-old daughter and took her to the Middle East in 1992. Dabbagh spent more than a decade searching for her daughter, one of 1,000 children illegally abducted from the Us each year, before she finally found her.

Piper will play Shelley, the love interest of Riz Ahmed's detective character Tommy Akhtar.

City of Tiny Lights follows Tommy, who finds himself drawn into a sinister, dangerous world of religious fanaticism and political intrigue after discovering the body of a Pakistani businessman.

Cush Jumbo, James Floyd and Roshan Seth will also star in the film.

Patrick Neate, author of the novel the project is based on, has penned the script. Pete Travis is on board to direct.

City of Tiny Lights, a London-set film noir is to begin principal photography on April 27. The film will shoot for six weeks in London and will be released in 2016.
