Samantha Boscarino, Griffin Johnson to Star in ‘Diamond in the Rough’ Movie From Creator Plus (Exclusive)
Image
Creator Plus, a movie studio and distribution startup centered on digital influencers, has greenlit its second feature-length film: Country-club comedy “Diamond in the Rough,” starring Samantha Boscarino (Disney’s “Good Luck Charlie”) and TikTok star and entrepreneur Griffin Johnson (MTV’s “Ridiculousness”).

Production is slated to begin this week in Los Angeles. Creator Plus expects to release the movie on its digital sell-through platform in the spring of 2022.

The film joins the startup’s first film project, “Jane,” starring Madelaine Petsch (“Riverdale”), who is also producing, singer-songwriter Chlöe Bailey (part of sister duo Chloe x Halle), Melissa Leo (“The Fighter”), Ian Owens and model Chloe Yu. “Jane,” which has run into Covid-related production delays, is slated for an early 2022 release.

Creator Plus, formed earlier this year, finances in-house production and development and promises to give its talent partners creative approval and to share profits. “Creators can participate evenly with us in shared revenue and,...

Lena Waithe
How Lena Waithe Became the Voice of Her Generation
Lena Waithe
Lena Waithe can't help but write a little bit of herself into her characters. "I can't not. Yes, I'm the vessel, but because I am, some of me is going to get in there," she told The New Yorker's Jelani Cobb earlier this month. "I do try and let the characters speak through me, but it's also therapy for me. A place for me to work out my stuff. My favorite artists are the ones that you can see them in their work. You know what that person's trauma is because it keeps popping up." That exploration of her own trauma through her characters has served the multi-hyphenate, who cut her teeth writing for shows like Bones and Nickelodeon's How to Rock, well. It helped her become the...

No More "We Can't Find Any Black Female Writers": Here Are 62 Scribes in One Photo
David Boreanaz and Emily Deschanel in Bones (2005)
In 2014, Nkechi Okoro Carroll was an executive story editor on Bones when she met an up-and-coming scribe named Lena Waithe at a WGA Committee of Black Writers event. The two hit it off, so much so that Okoro Carroll got the future Emmy winner — whose major credit at the time was writing for the Nickelodeon series How to Rock — hired as a staff writer on her Fox procedural, making Waithe the second black woman in the room. "Aren't you worried she's going to take your job?" a fellow writer on staff asked Okoro Carroll.

"You should ...

Get to Know Lena Waithe, the Master of None Writer Who Made Emmys History
Aziz Ansari in Master of None (2015)
This year's Emmy Awards were full of historical moments, including Lena Waithe's incredible and well-deserved win. On Sunday night, the Master of None actress became the first black woman to win an award for comedy writing for the show's "Thanksgiving" episode, which she cowrote with Aziz Ansari. Aside from thanking Netflix for "creating a beautiful playground" for them "to play and shine on," the 33-year-old gave some truly inspiring words to the Lgbtq+ community. Here are just a few things you should know about the groundbreaking actress. She is a Chicago native. Lena was born and raised in Chicago and grew up on the South Side of the city. This isn't the first time her comedic talents have been recognized. In 2014, she was named one of Variety's 10 Comedians to Watch. Master of None isn't her first rodeo. Aside from writing and starring on the Netflix series, Lena has been...

Just 9 Posh Bowtie-Wearing Pups Looking Unbearably Classy and Cute
Lulu Antariksa, Noah Crawford, Cymphonique Miller, Samantha Boscarino, Max Schneider, Halston Sage, and Chris O'Neal in How to Rock (2012)
There are few things cuter than a dog. Unless of course, you add something else that is already adorable onto a dog — like a bowtie.

Luckily, plenty of pup owners have had this idea and have followed through.

Not only did these pet parents buy a piece of dashing doggie neckwear, they photographed their pooch wearing it and then put it on social media for all to enjoy. A truly terrific trifecta of decisions.

This is a show that, similar to Disney’s Wreck It Ralph, asks the question, “What do video game characters do outside of the video game?” Unlike the film however, this series focuses on an average family of video game characters known as the Smashenburns. The family is made up of father Rip, a Grand Prix race car driver from an unspecified racing game, mother Raquel, a Lara Croft type from an artifact scavenging adventure game, daughter Alice, who is an activist that sometimes goes boy-crazy, son Billy, who is trend-obsessed with becoming a rapper, and lastly Turbo, their talking purple...

Best Looks of the Week: Rihanna's Pink Skirt Suit, Kate Bosworth's Graphic Midi and More
Lulu Antariksa, Noah Crawford, Cymphonique Miller, Samantha Boscarino, Max Schneider, Halston Sage, and Chris O'Neal in How to Rock (2012)
Our style stars this week took to the red carpet in closet-staple colors: We're talking reds, blacks and whites (and the occasional pale pink). Another sartorial note to take from these leaders in chic? How to rock a deep crimson lip, which is the shade we're guaranteed to be wearing all winter.   At last night's 2014 Hugo Boss Prize event in New York City, black-and-white was the trend to remember: Kate Bosworth donned a graphic printed midi that she paired with black Kurt Geiger London pumps and a brick-red lip. Actress Margot Robbie, also an attendee, wore a plunging, all-black pantsuit (no shirt, no problem!) with sky-high metallic heels and a blood orange lip. We're just a little obsessed...

Taylor Swift at an event for 2019 Golden Globe Awards (2019)
Swift may not know all the words, but that somehow makes the sweet rendition even more charming.

How's this for a feel good story: Taylor Swift singing Adele alongside a leukemia patient at a children's hospital.

That's exactly what happened in early August when Swift made a surprise appearance at the Boston Children's Hospital. A leukemia patient named Ben posted a video of his visit with Swift to Reddit on Monday, writing that the singer spent three hours visiting patients that day.

18 Reasons Why Uncle Phil Was The Greatest Ever TV Father
After the sad death of James Avery this week, it’s time to celebrate his greatest character, and why he was the greatest parent that we never had.

Many actors may lament the fact that their entire career is all but defined by just one of their characters, but in the case of Avery’s Philip Banks, it is rather a testament to how universally loved and admired the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air’s father (and uncle) truly was. Whether he was bustin’ a move to ‘Spill the Wine’, hurling popular 90′s disc jockeys across his front lawn or breaking out ‘Lucille’ in the local pool hall, Uncle Phil entertained and inspired a generation, becoming a household name all over the world, and remaining just as popular and revered eighteen years after the show ended.

So join us for a stroll down memory lane, as we pinpoint exactly why the...

Kendall Schmidt at an event for Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards 2010 (2010)
Growing up in the spotlight isn't as glamorous as it might seem, according to Big Time Rush band member James Maslow. The 22-year-old singer and actor, who plays the role of James Diamond on Nickeloden’s "Big Time Rush," says that even celebs experience bullying and other typical high-school traumas.

Yesterday on HuffPost Live, Maslow opened up about picked on for being the new kid and labeled a theater nerd.

“You go into a performing arts program when there’s other sports teams going on, you get picked on for that," Maslow explained. "But the way I overcame that is that I also played sports and I was an athlete, so I never minded a challenge."

Now, in addition to playing James Diamond, the performer is working in the studio with his band, choosing from over 50 songs they’ve written for a new album.

Lea Michele’s Sexy Undone Braid: Get The Look
The ‘Glee’ star looked so pretty with her tresses tucked into a piece-y side braid for the 2013 Winter TCA Fox All-Star Party at The Langham Huntington Hotel and Spa on January 8, 2013 in Pasadena, California–here’s how you can copy the look!

Lea Michele, 26, has been rocking the blunt bang look better than anyone lately, but for this recent event, the star swept her fringe off her face and wore the rest of her hair in an effortless braid. The braid trend is still super hot, but this look is particularly amazing, since Lea’s braid is loose and a bit messy, which looks edgy rather than sweet.

How to rock a braid like Lea’s

If you love Lea’s braid, it’s an easy look to recreate. The nice thing about it is, the more undone it looks, the better, so you can literally roll out of bed...

Poldark (1975)
A Guide To TV On DVD This Holiday Season
Poldark (1975)
A TV show DVD set represents more than a holiday gift that's easy to wrap. It also demonstrates respect: you know the recipient is mentally fit and couch-ready for a viewing marathon of "Dr. Who" or "House."

Those are among the new releases worth considering for the TV lover in your life:

Golden Oldies

_"The Dean Martin Variety Show: Dean's Ultimate Collection," Time Life. Ring-a-ding-ding! This is Dino's most comprehensive collection yet. With footage culled from nine seasons and 48 episodes of the NBC series, the set includes 17 DVDs with 32 hours of Dean and his pals that originally aired from 1965 to 1974. There are more than 300 musical performances, plus interviews and a guest list filled with virtually every major star of the era.

_"Poldark: The Complete Collection," Acorn Media. Less posh than "Downton Abbey" but just as addictive when it first aired in the 1970s, "Poldark" is a darkly romantic saga set in late 18th-century Cornwall.

Glee Newcomer Jacob Artist on Dancing Dreams, Rap Nightmares and New-Girl Drama

Jacob Artist’s acting career only began in earnest last year — with guest roles on Melissa & Joey and Nickelodeon’s How to Rock — so not surprisingly, he says he’s finding it a little surreal to have a recurring role as Jake Puckerman (younger half-brother of Mark Salling’s bad boy Noah ‘Puck’ Puckerman) on Season 4 of Glee.

“I was a fan of the show before I auditioned, so now every time I go to Paramount and we’re shooting, it’s like an absolute dream come true,” says Artist.

Nickelodeon Cancels Freshman Series How To Rock
It’s a sad time to be a live-action Nickelodeon series. Just two weeks after Victorious was canceled after three seasons, Nick has made the decision to not renew Cymphonique Miller’s How To Rock for a second season, sending it to the grave much earlier than any one involved in its creation would have wanted. Including the end of iCarly, this makes three Nick series that won’t be back next year, which makes me rather sad. But it is what it is and there’s no use worrying about it. After all, it’s not as if Nick didn’t have a perfectly good reason for not renewing How To Rock.

According to Deadline, when How To Rock – based on the novel How to Rock Braces and Glasses by Meg Haston – premiered, it pulled a good-sized crowd of 3.3 million viewers. It stayed steady for quite some time, though...

How to Rock: Cancelled; No Season Two
Nickelodeon has decided to cancel their How To Rock TV series. This is the fourth sitcom that the cable channel has announced is ending -- along with Victorious, Bucket & Skinner's Epic Adventures, and iCarly.

How to Rock revolves around Kacey Simon (Cymphonique Miller), a popular mean girl whose status goes down after she must briefly wear braces and glasses. She's ignored by her friends so Kacey finds a new way to express herself through music. She becomes the lead singer of a pop/hip-hop band. Others in the cast include Samantha Boscarino, Max Schneider, Lulu Antariksa, Halston Sage, Noah Crawford, and Christopher O'Neal.

The show premiered to a very healthy 3.28 million viewers with a 0.55 rating in the 18-49 demographic. The numbers fell over the course of the season and most recently generated 2.1 million in a 0.3 demo rating.

Nickelodeon Cancels Cymphonique Miller Series 'How To Rock' After One Season
That was fast! It was in December when we wrote about Nickelodeon's efforts to revitalize the network's ratings, by banking heavily on the success of a new musical TV show titled How To Rock, and its chosen star, Cymphonique Miller, a name you might immediately recognize; she's Master P's 15-year old daughter. Will Smith often gets criticized for sheperding his children's careers, but the Master P family is certainly building an entertainment empire of its own. His son, and Cymphonique's older brother Romeo Miller, formely known as Lil Romeo, also headlined his own Nickelodeon series a few years ago, and went on to appear in big screen projects,...

Nick’s ‘How To Rock’ Cancelled After One Season
Nickelodeon’s housecleaning continues. Two weeks after the kids cable network cancelled comedy series Victorious after three seasons, it has done the same with freshman How To Rock. This means that three live-action Nick series will end their run this fall, Victorious, How To Rock and iCarly. Like with Victorious, the news of How To Rock‘s demise was delivered by the series’ showrunner on his blog. In a post titled How To Rock The Future, How To Rock executive producer David Israel said that Nickelodeon had opted not to pick up a second season of the show and thanked the show’s cast, crew and fans. The move also follows Nick ordering a slew of new live-action and animated series and pilots, including two iCarly spinoffs, earlier this month as the network appears to be overhauling its lineup amidst a ratings slump. Created by Jim O’Doherty based on...

Banana Pancakes by Jack Johnson

Banana Pancakes is one of my all time favorite songs. It gets me so in the mood to ride bikes or take a walk to breakfast on a beautiful sunny day. Jack Johnson has the best beachy vibe on all of his albums. His acoustic version of Better Together is also a great bonfire song.
