Matt Manjourides came up with the original Puppetman idea after listening to a version of the song "Puppet Man", being a 1969 song written by Neil Sedaka and Howard Greenfield and a 1971 hit for Tom Jones.
Various crew members appear as college student extras.
The dorm room was actually a set that was built for this film.
