Some casting news from the “Into the Whoniverse” panel Friday at San Diego Comic-Con. It was announced that The Little Mermaid star Jonah Hauer-King will be joining the next season of Doctor Who, playing a character that will be part of Ruby Sunday’s story.

Additionally, Bridgerton‘s Nicola Coughlan revealed she has joined the cast of the Doctor Who Christmas special. She’ll play Joy “a determined woman whose life is changed forever when she meets the Doctor.” You can watch her announcement below, which includes a first look at the special.

Exclusive: Nicola Coughlan has signed with CAA for representation.

Coughlan currently stars as Penelope Featherington in Netflix’s Bridgerton.

In 2018, she starred as Claire Devlin in the hit Channel 4/Netflix sitcom, Derry Girls.

Earlier this year, Coughlan starred in the Channel 4 and Tubi original comedy series Big Mood opposite Lydia West, and in the feature comedy Seize Them! with Aimee Lou Wood, Nick Frost, and Lolly Adefope.

She is currently filming the independent feature The Magic Faraway Tree opposite Andrew Garfield and Claire Foy. She’s also lined up an appearance in Doctor Who.

Last summer, Coughlan played Diplomat Barbie in Greta Gerwig’s Barbie.

In the brand space, Coughlan is the face of the Kim Kardashian’s latest Skims campaign.

She continues to be represented by Curtis Brown, Goodman Genow Schenkman Smelkinson & Christopher, Llp.

British historical comedy Seize Them is getting a physical media release, with the movie set for DVD and Blu-ray next month.

As much as we wanted to, and tried for many months on and off to do so, we weren’t able to cover the British comedy Seize Them! much in the end. Credit to its distributors though for putting the film out in cinemas, and now for backing that up with a physical media release as well.

Seize Them!, we’ve now had confirmed, will be arriving on DVD and Blu-ray in the UK on 24th June 2024. No 4K option, but we weren’t really expecting one. A good solid Blu-ray sounds like it might be just the ticket.

Universal’s “Kung Fu Panda 4” topped the U.K. and Ireland box office with £2.8 million ($3.6 million), according to numbers from Comscore. The film now has a total of £12.7 million after two weekends.

Also in its second weekend, Warner Bros.’ “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire” collected £1.9 million in second place for a total of £9.1 million.

In third place, in its third weekend, Sony’s “Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire” added £1.3 million for a total of £12.1 million. In fourth position, in its sixth weekend, Warner Bros.’ “Dune: Part II” collected £1.1 million for a total of £36.8 million. Universal’s “Monkey Man,” directed by and starring Dev Patel, debuted in fifth place with £810,253.

There were three more top 10 debuts – Disney’s “The First Omen” in sixth place with £521,573, Entertainment Film Distributors’ “Seize Them!” in eighth with £132,207 and Disney’s “Luca” in 10th with £110,964.

Dev Patel’s feature directorial debut Monkey Man leads the new films at this weekend’s UK-Ireland box office, starting in 592 cinemas through Universal.

Directed, produced, from a story by and starring Patel, Monkey Man follows an anonymous young man who unleashes a campaign of violence against the corrupt leaders who murdered his mother, and continue to systematically victimise the poor and powerless.

Filmed in early 2021, Netflix originally bought worldwide rights to Monkey Man. After Jordan Peele boarded the title as producer through his Monkeypaw Productions, Universal acquired it from Netflix earlier this year. It debuted at SXSW last month.

Honors were even atop the U.K. and Ireland box office as Universal’s “Kung Fu Panda 4” and Warner Bros.’ “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire” battled for top spot during the Easter holiday weekend.

While “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire” won the three-day weekend, “Kung Fu Panda 4” had the higher gross including previews. According to numbers provided by Comscore, “Kung Fu Panda 4” collected £5 million ($6.3) million, while “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire” took in £4.1 million ($5.2 million).

In third place, in its second weekend, Sony’s “Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire” collected £2.1 million for a total of £8.2 million. In its fifth weekend, in fourth place, Warner Bros.’ “Dune: Part II” grossed £1.6 million to take its total to £34 million.

Debuting at fifth place was Indian filmmaker Blessy’s acclaimed desert saga “Aadujeevitham” (“The Goat Life”), distributed by Dg Tech, with £480,977.

Apple TV+ has unveiled the trailer for ‘Constellation,’ the upcoming eight-part conspiracy-based psychological thriller drama series starring Noomi Rapace and Emmy Award nominee Jonathan Banks.

Created and written by Peter Harness, the series stars Rapace as Jo – an astronaut who returns to Earth after a disaster in space – only to discover that key pieces of her life seem to be missing. The action-packed space adventure is an exploration of the dark edges of human psychology, and one woman’s desperate quest to expose the truth about the hidden history of space travel and recover all that she has lost.

The series also stars James D’Arcy, Julian Looman William Catlett, Barbara Sukowa, and introduces Rosie and Davina Coleman as Alice. The series is directed by Emmy Award winner Michelle MacLaren, Oscar nominee Oliver Hirschbiegel and Oscar nominee Joseph Cedar.

"Greeting peasants!" Entertainment Film Distributors in the UK have unveiled an official trailer for an indie comedy called Seize Them!, made by Nz filmmaker Curtis Vowell. This is the first big lead role for actress Aimee Lou Wood (as a Queen!) following her excellent turn in Living recently. It's set for release in April in the UK, but has no other dates set yet. Dark Ages Britain where Queen Dagan is toppled by a revolution led by Humble Joan. The Queen becomes a fugitive in her own land, and must face hardship and danger as she embarks on a voyage to win back her throne. A "comedy road movie set in the dark ages" – with her new friends, a castle worker and a shit shoveler, she begins her quest for justice. In addition to Aimee Lou Wood, this stars Lolly Adefope, Nicola Coughlan, Paul Kaye, John Macmillan, with Jessica Hynes and Nick Frost.

Entertainment Film has unleashed the trailer for the comedy road movie ‘Seize Them.’

Set in the Dark Ages. It follows Queen Dagan (Aimee Lou Wood), an egotistical yet lonely monarch, whose reign is toppled by the charismatic Humble Joan (Nicola Coughlan) and the treacherous Leofwine (Jessica Hynes). Now a fugitive with a hefty bounty on her head, the Queen embarks on a quest to regain the throne with the help of Shulmay (Lolly Adefope), a castle worker with mysterious motives, and Bobik (Nick Frost), a shit shoveler who dreams of a grander life. Her new friends and wild adventures make her question the kind of Queen she wants to be.

This March, stand-up, actor and Off Menu podcaster James Acaster can be seen in Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire alongside Dan Aykroyd, Carrie Coon, Stranger Things’ Finn Wolfhard, and Paul Rudd. In the sequel to the Ghostbusters revival, Acaster plays boffin Lars Pinfield, a scientist described by writer-producer Jason Reitman as an “Egon Spengler type”.

One month later in April, Acaster fans will be chuffed to know that the mash king is back on the big screen in Andy Riley and Curtis Vowell’s historical comedy Seize Them!

Historical British comedy Seize Them! lands in UK cinemas in April, and the trailer has landed.

Prolific comedy writer Andy Riley, along with his writing partner Kevin Cecil, has written for numerous comedy shows including Trigger Happy TV, So Graham Norton, Smack the Pony, The Armando Iannucci Shows, Black Books, Harry and Paul, Big Bad World and Veep. They also created and wrote the underrated Matt Berry sitcom Year of The Rabbit for Channel 4.

On the big screen, Cecil and Riley wrote the scripts for Gnomeo And Juliet and the sequel, Sherlock Gnomes.

Now, Riley has written the screenplay for Seize Them! a historical comedy with a huge ensemble cast of familiar faces from the British comedy scene. Originally set for release last year, we’re delighted to see it’s now returned to the cinema release schedule.

Update: Below you’ll see our original story about the film Seize Them!, from when it started shooting in March 2022. We’ve been waiting a little while for the film to land on the UK release schedule; initially, it was inked in for October 2023. However, its release date came and went, with no sign of the film.

Now, though, we actually have a proper release date. Entertainment Film Distributors is putting the movie into UK cinemas, and Friday April 5th 2024 is the date to mark in your diaries.

With a cast full of British talent, historical comedy Seize Them! begins filming today. The film is set in the Dark Ages, and stars Sex Education actor Aimee Lou Wood alongside comedian Lolly Adefope and Bridgerton's Nicola Coughlan.

"Seize Them!" is coming, and we couldn't be more excited. This upcoming British comedy - much like Paul Mescal and Andrew Scott's latest venture with their highly anticipated film "Strangers" - boasts the best of the UK and Ireland's talent. "Bridgerton"'s Nicola Coughlan, "Sex Education"'s Aimee Lou Wood, and "Shrill"'s Lolly Adefope will be joining forces as part of this medieval-set movie.

Whilst Coughlan has already served us plenty Barbiecore outfit inspiration for the press run as part of her supporting role in Greta Gerwig's "Barbie," we certainly can't wait to see her as the leading lady alongside the all-star cast for this comedy.

Commercial insurers are not ready to step into the space created by the looming end of the Production Restart Scheme.

The UK independent film and TV sector is becoming increasingly concerned that the winding up of the government’s £500m Film and TV Production Restart Scheme (Prs) at the end of April will inhibit production with commercial insurance companies reportedly unwilling to underwrite shoots.

The Prs, first announced by the Department For Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (Dcms) in July 2020, was created to help producers unable to mount productions because of the lack of insurance coverage for Covid-19 related risks.
