Sometimes Tim Waggoner can make up scenes, and sometimes he can’t.
Take his work on Terrifier 2, a novelization of the popular 2022 killer-clown slasher movie. The studio wanted a 100,000-word prose adaptation of a film that was under two and a half hours, necessitating some creative license from the author. “If Art the Clown is running around killing people, I can just have him kill some more people,” says Waggoner of that book, which published this past October. “At one point in the movie, he’s driving a van, so I’m like, ‘Oh, where’d he get his van?’ So I wrote a scene where he got the van.”
But on Waggoner’s first published works for A24 — book adaptations of the X trilogy — the mandate was different: Don’t complicate writer-director Ti West’s creative vision. And so in X (published Sept. 24), Pearl (Nov. 19) and the upcoming...

Supernatural was one of the biggest IPs that CW had on its hands, running for a whopping 15 seasons, clocking in at around 327 episodes. Jensen Ackles, the actor who played Dean Winchester, revealed how he figured out how big the show had become after the first season, before which he thought it was more akin to shooting a horror film every week.

Supernatural first season landed on the network with great reviews, but Ackles was not convinced about how big the show had actually become. However, as admitted by the actor himself, the show was part of the network’s push into the UK market, which caused the show to blow up across the pond.

In the ’80s, Mary Page Keller and Thomas Ian Griffith played one of the hottest couples on daytime television. As Caitlin Ewing and Sally Frame on Another World, their characters faced drama and even an invalid wedding. In real life, the two have been married since 1991. They’re both flourishing in their professional careers, too. Most recently, they have both made their mark on the Netflix hit drama Virgin River, a series which features plenty of soapy elements.
The Actors
Over the years, the husband and wife have continued to act in various projects. In fact, Griffith’s appearance as the villainous Terry Silver in 1989’s Karate Kid III allowed him to bring that character to the current TV reimagining of the Karate Kid franchise called Cobra Kai. Silver’s back during this final season of the drama. The second part of the show’s sixth and final season drops on Netflix on November 15.

It’s time again for spooks and frights, and with the original “Charmed” series celebrating its 25th anniversary, it’s also seems like a good time to check out some of TV’s most famous (and infamous) witches.
From the time Samantha Stevens “Bewitched” us with a twitch of her nose nearly 60 years ago, witches have appeared in just about every genre on television. From the comical “Sabrina the Teenage Witch” to the terrifying “The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina” to the fantasy “Once Upon a Time” to the police procedural “Grimm,” the magical powers and spells of witches and sorcerers have enchanted, spooked and amused viewers.
Besides “Bewitched,” “Charmed” is the longest-lasting series to primarily feature witches, and attracted viewers not only with its supernatural elements, but also with the family dramas that involved the sisters at the heart of the show.

Audiences will see Morgan and the team deep in the danger and chaos of another case in High Potential Season 1 Episode 4! And I thought the knife-wielding bartender from the previous episode was a slippery situation.
The series certainly isn’t letting off the gas anytime soon. The training wheels are coming off, and it’s time for Morgan to sink or swim.
Since High Potential is a series that boasts as much heart as it does brain power, there’s a good chance there will be quite a few tear-worthy moments.
(Carlos Lopez-Calleja/Disney)
Audiences are likely to experience every emotion under the sun from watching a single episode of High Potential.

Parker Finn's 2022 horror film "Smile" has a novel premise and a monster that is difficult to describe. The film begins when the lead character, a therapist named Rose (Sosie Bacon), has a strange encounter with a student, Laura (Caitlin Stasey). Laura is in a panic, having spent several day beset by hallucinations. She has been seeing people she knows appearing out of nowhere and grinning at her fiendishly. She knows these people are, in fact, a singular shapeshifting demon of some kind, and it is encouraging her to die by suicide. Then, as she predicted, Laura also pastes on a bleak, intense smile, and slits her throat right in front of Rose.
Rose soon begins experiencing similar hallucinations, wherein people she knows appear in her mind's eye, all of them wearing a scary rictus. Rose soon discovers that the grinning entity is an ancient supernatural creature that feeds on trauma.

Helen Mirren as Grandmère in White Bird: A Wonder Story. Photo Credit: Larry Horricks. Courtesy of Lionsgate
Helen Mirren stars as a French Jewish grandmother who survived the Holocaust in the family drama White Bird. Concerned about her grandson Julian (Bryce Gheisar), a boy who is struggling to fit in at his new school after being expelled from his previous one for mistreatment of another student, Grandmere (Mirren) recounts her youthful experiences, a story of her past he has never heard, to teach Julian about the lasting power of kindness. In flashback, the grandmother’s story takes us to WWII France, to her old French village in the woods, where the kindness of a non-Jewish boy saved her life.
Also starring Gillian Anderson, White Bird is a moving, beautifully-shot and sensitively-told family drama from director Marc Forster, who also directed Neverland. The film is essentially a young adult tale, offering a coming-of-age,...

Brian Tee has joined the cast of Kathryn Bigelow’s next film. The project, which is cloaked in secrecy, has aligned an impressive ensemble, with Rebecca Ferguson, Idris Elba, Jared Harris, Greta Lee, Anthony Ramos, Tracy Letts, Moses Ingram and Gabriel Basso all set to appear in the movie. The plot is being kept under wraps, and Netflix, which is backing Bigelow’s latest project, has yet to reveal a title, but it reportedly is set at the White House during a national security crisis. The film marks Bigelow’s first feature since 2017’s “Detroit.” Her other notable credits include “Zero Dark Thirty” and “The Hurt Locker,” for which she won an Oscar for best director.
It’s been a busy period for Tee, who recently played the lead villain in the third season of Amazon Prime’s “Reacher.” This year, he also starred opposite Nicole Kidman in the prestige limited series “Expats,...

TV and film actor Brian Tee has signed with Verve and Authentic Talent & Literary Management for representation.
Tee recently starred alongside Nicole Kidman in the limited series “Expats,” directed by Lulu Wang for Prime Video. Up next, he will appear in Season 3 of Prime Video’s action series “Reacher” alongside star Alan Ritchson.
Widely known for his role as Dr. Ethan Choi for eight seasons in NBC’s popular Dick Wolf medical drama “Chicago Med,” Brian recently returned to the series to direct an episode for its current season.
“It was not necessarily an easy yes,” he told Variety in 2023 about returning to helm an episode. “I’m sure there’s a bit of a hesitation. But I think everyone has known that I’ve been wanting to do this. It wasn’t just something new, out of the blue. It’s been something I’ve been working toward.

Earlier this month, we heard that one of the movies that will be showing at the 28th edition of the Fantasia International Film Festival (which is set to run from from July 18th through August 4th in Montreal) is the werewolf chiller The Beast Within, starring Kit Harington (Jon Snow from HBO’s Game of Thrones). But if you’re not going to be able to attend Fantasia this year, you’re still going to have the chance to see The Beast Within on the big screen this summer… if you’re in the United States, anyway. Well Go USA Entertainment is giving the film a theatrical release nationwide on July 26th, and you can check out the trailer in the embed above.

Created by Joko Anwar, the Netflix’s anthology series, Nightmares and Daydreams, is made of seven seemingly disconnected episodes. But with each passing story, it becomes clear that all of them are connected via the shenanigans emerging from the mythological realm of Agartha. As the legend goes, Agartha is a kingdom that exists somewhere between Earth’s surface and hell, I guess. I’m sure you are familiar with the concept of the hollow Earth theory that has been popularized by MonsterVerse. So, think of it that way. Agartha is a world between worlds and is apparently home to demi-gods, also known as “asuras.” This connecting thread doesn’t become all that apparent until the seventh and last episode. But since there are subtle and not-so-subtle hints to the existence of Agartha, and how its inhabitants influence the surface dwellers, bear with me as I go episode by episode to...

The thriller The Woman in the Yard, which is coming our way from Blumhouse Productions, Universal Pictures, and director Jaume Collet-Serra, was once set to reach theatres on January 10, 2025, but it was recently bumped off the Universal release slate entirely to make room for another Blumhouse / Universal collaboration, the Wolf Man reboot directed by Leigh Whannell. (Wolf Man is now scheduled for a January 17 release.) The release date shake-up isn’t slowing down The Woman in the Yard‘s momentum, though. Deadline reports that the project has just added another cast member: Russell Hornsby of The Hate U Give and Fences.
Hornsby joins the previously announced Danielle Deadwyler of The Devil to Pay and Till in the cast. Okwui Okpokwasili of The Exorcist: Believer and I Am Legend is also in there.

Hansel and Gretel, the two German kids who nearly became somebody’s meal, need little introduction. The characters in this Brothers Grimm classic have been used as a lesson about stranger danger and resilience for years. And while Hansel and Gretel’s ordeal has been put on screen multiple times — both faithfully and loosely — Yim Pil-sung’s 2007 movie is one of the more distinct adaptations. This Korean reimagining retains the essence of the influential fairy tale while also adding its own unique twists.
Hansel and Gretel was one of several movies from the golden age of South Korean Horror — often referred to as “K-Horror” in the West — to be based on fairy or folk tales. While Arang and A Tale of Two Sisters dug into local Korean lore, other movies drew from European narrations. However, much like Cinderella and The Red Shoes, Hansel and Gretel’s interpretation of its basis is rather liberal.

Director Samuel Bodin established a talent for crafting bone-chilling scares with “Marianne,” a series that saw a fairy tale nightmare spill over into waking life for its protagonists. For his follow-up, Cobweb, Bodin steps further into the realm of fairy tales for a gateway horror effort that plays like a bedtime story. In the severing of reality, though, Cobweb spins a messy web.

The sounds become more consistent, and Mom and Dad’s peculiar reactions to Peter’s claims instill suspicion. Not helping the mounting mistrust is Peter’s school life, where his peers bully him. This season of Nancy Drew is possibly the most fun and simultaneously the most painful the series has ever been.
But after the laughter and tears of Nancy Drew Season 4 Episode 7, I'm not sure how much more I can take.
Let's face it, The Drew Crew couples are a mess, and it hurts to watch.
We can't really argue with Nick when he says the supernatural ruins the relationship in this Nancy Drew quote. So far, he's right.
From what I can see, the supernatural ruins every relationship it touches.

Peter Werner, the Oscar-winning director known for his television work that spanned five decades and included helming episodes of such popular series as Moonlighting, A Different World, Justified and Law & Order: Svu, has died. He was 76.
Werner died Tuesday morning in Wilmington, North Carolina, his younger brother, Tom Werner (producer on The Cosby Show, Roseanne, That ’70s Show, The Conners), told The Hollywood Reporter. “He had a torn aorta that the doctors weren’t able to repair. So sudden,” he wrote in an email.
As a student project while attending the American Film Institute, Peter Werner directed the 1976 short film In the Region of Ice, which was based on Joyce Carol Oates’ short story and starred Fionnula Flanagan. The project won the Oscar for live-action short film.
His career kicked off from there, with Werner helming a 1977 episode of Family. The ABC drama counted Mike Nichols and Aaron Spelling as executive producers.

Thanks to strong reviews, a buzzy trailer and young fans celebrating the film on TikTok, “M3GAN” is about to top 100 million worldwide. The Gerard Johnstone-directed film was sold as yet another horror team-up between Jason Blum’s Blumhouse and James Wan’s Atomic Monster, with both moguls now famous enough among horror fans for such a pitch to qualify as akin to Steven Spielberg and George Lucas uniting for “Raiders of the Lost Ark.”
The film’s not-so-secret weapon, however, is its screenwriter Akela Cooper. The self-professed genre nerd isn’t yet a household name, but she may be on her way to becoming one.
Cooper took time last week to speak with TheWrap, discussing the origins of “M3GAN,” trimming the initially R-rated film to a PG-13 and inserting her parents into the “Star Trek” universe. Most importantly, she answered tough questions about the biggest plot hole in her 2018 slasher romp “Hell Fest.

Time and time again, horror has proven to be one of the most successful genres of them all, thanks in part to low budgets with big rewards. Case in point, look at "M3GAN," which raked in over 30 million in its opening weekend against a modest 12 million budget. If the killer AI wasn't one of Blumhouse's top priorities beforehand, it is now. How could she not be? Last October revealed the teaser that set the internet ablaze with the titular android dancing on the way to her next kill. "M3GAN" fever was in full effect.
On top of "Housebound" director Gerard Johnstone, the success of "M3GAN" can also be attributed to its screenwriter Akela Cooper. Her television work includes such shows like "Grimm," "Luke Cage," and "The 100," before making her feature film debut with the script for "Hell Fest." But everything changed once the bonkers ride that is "Malignant" came to the screen.

Her television work includes such shows like "Grimm," "Luke Cage," and "The 100," before making her feature film debut with the script for "Hell Fest." Coming into a franchise as storied as the Shrek series, director Joel Crawford was thrilled at the opportunity to show a new side of the iconic Puss in Boots. A sequel to the 2011 Puss in Boots film, DreamWorks Animation’s Puss in Boots: The Last Wish takes place after Shrek Forever After, when Puss in Boots (Antonio Banderas) is accidentally killed by a bell and discovers he is down to his ninth, and final, life. After a brush with a mysterious wolf who is determined to take his last life, Puss decides to live the rest of his life in hiding. However, he soon learns about a wishing star that could help them get his lives back. Crawford wanted to take the story of Puss in Boots into a darker direction than the other films in the Shrek franchise, using inspiration from Grimm’s Fairy Tales.

But cancers a bitch, and his life was cut too short,” she shared. “He’s been quietly battling for the past 5 years, this whole time, directing, working, fighting, and smiling through it. He was famous for his infectious laugh, his noisy ass sneeze, his wild sailor mouth on set, his incredible, thoughtful, creative, and brilliant mind…I could go on.”
