A World of Timeless Musicians Since long before the days of film, there have been countless great composers throughout history; people who have a true ear for music and have been able to write and produce melodies that have gone on to be remembered for generations to come. Such individuals include Beethoven, Georges Bizet, Krzysztof Penderecki, Ennio Morricone, and John Williams. However, today I’d like to honor a composer that was taken from us far too soon, a man by the name of James Horner. Background James Horner was born on August 14, 1953 in Los Angeles, California. His father, Harry Horner had previously moved to the United States to work in theater as a set designer and art director. Meanwhile, his brother Christopher Horner, born two years later, would go on to write and film a few documentaries, including a 2004 feature titled ‘The Disappearing of Tuvalu: Trouble in Paradise.’ As for James Horner himself,...

As someone who has never punched somebody in this lifetime, I do love to watch movies about boxing. Yes, it’s a pretty nonsensical sport, but when every punch, jab, and hook is injected with complex emotions and whatnot, it does make for an enjoyable viewing experience. I grew up watching the Rocky movies, and the sequel franchise, Creed, is pretty damn good. Martin Scorsese’s Raging Bull is a masterpiece, and there’s no doubt about that. Cinderella Man, The Fighter, and Southpaw are some other amazing examples. Veering away from the traditional “hero’s journey” format, there’s The Harder They Fall, The Hurricane, Million Dollar Baby, and, dare I say, Real Steel. Indian movies have fared quite well in this subgenre with Mukkabaaz, Sarpatta Parambarai, and Irudhi Suttru by talking about politics in sports, casteism, and sexism. Boxer, the Polish Netflix film, aims to show yet another...

Jake Gyllenhaal is one of the most dedicated actors in Hollywood as evident in the roles and projects he takes in. He is not afraid to transform himself to fully embody the character he plays. He may have done it when he portrayed Mysterio in Spider-Man: Far From Home, but that doesn’t even come close to what he did in Southpaw.

This very feature of his has also scored him a global fanbase of people who famously call themselves Gyllenhaalics. Amidst all the fangirls swooning over him, one female host made her into the list as well.

This happened when the actor found himself in a seemingly uncomfortably flirty position while working with a female chef host to promote his movie, Southpaw. And while Gyllenhaal tried his best to be okay with it and brush it off since he was on television, fans can’t help but express just how uncomfortable merely watching him this way is making them feel.

Jake Gyllenhaal pulls his glasses out of his jean jacket pocket, the Coke bottle lenses in them strong enough to correct his 20/1250 vision. Yes, you read that right. These are not Internet Boyfriend glasses, to be styled with a fuzzy cardigan and a rakish smile. These are I Literally Can’t See glasses. Looking through them with normal vision feels like being on some sort of a hallucinogenic.
Gyllenhaal, 43, has been wearing intensive corrective lenses since he was about 6. Born with a lazy eye that naturally resolved, he’s blind without the lenses. “I like to think it’s advantageous,” he says. “I’ve never known anything else. Eminem and Gwen Stefani seem like an unlikely duo, but they’ve collaborated in the past. The No Doubt singer has moved more into country music thanks to her marriage to Blake Shelton. However, in the past, she discussed what getting a call from the rap star was like, especially after Eminem once wrote distasteful lyrics about Stefani. Here’s what he said about his “pee pee” lyrics.

It’s a weird month on Netflix in February; one that will probably require you to be open-minded about the shows and movies you’re willing to consume on the service.
There are quite a few library TV series arriving this month, for example. If you’re ready to start binge-watching Monk, My Wife and Kids, or acclaimed show Warrior, you’re in luck, as those complete seasons will be available. The Blacklist season 10, Curb Your Enthusiasm season 12, Brooklyn Nine-Nine seasons 1-4, and Young Sheldon season 6 will also be hitting the ‘Flix.
In terms of what’s new, there’s a ton of foreign language content and true crime stuff, but original English language stuff will largely be unscripted fare like Love is Blind, which is back for a new season. There are a few bits and bobs on the way outside of that, though. Netflix’s animated movie Orion and the Dark will debut,...

Editors note: From his breakout in Swingers to The Bourne Identity, Mr. and Mrs. Smith, Edge of Tomorrow, American Made and his upcoming film with Tom Cruise they plan to shoot in outer space, Doug Liman’s films have a kinetic energy. That made the director perfect for Road House, an edgier version of the 1989 beloved B movie that starred Patrick Swayze, Kelly Lynch, Sam Elliott and Ben Gazzara. Jake Gyllenhaal, who got back in similar chiseled mode he displayed in the boxing movie Southpaw, plays the bouncer who has never lost a fight. Liman feels his movie, which has been selected as SXSW’s opening-night film, has been Ko’d by Amazon MGM Studios with a Prime Video release, and he’s not taking it lying down. In this guest column, he explains what happened, why he feels betrayed, and why this is a cautionary tale for a theatrical...

A hulking Jake Gyllenhaal entered the UFC 285 octagon to shoot a fight scene for his new film.
On Saturday (4 March), those gathered in the Las Vegas arena to see the Jon Jones vs Ciryl Gane became movie extras as the Nightcrawler actor engaged in a “fight” with former UFC fighter Jay Hieron.
The showdown will be shown in the forthcoming Road House remake, which Gyllenhaal is starring in alongside Hieron.
Gyllenhaal won the staged fight. After, he could also be seen pushing away the ref, played by Mma’s Chris Tognoni, to repeatedly hit his opponent as he lay on the floor.
The scene comes a day after Gyllenhaal displayed his bulked-up physique at the weigh-in ahead of the fight. He shouted at the crowd while standing on the scales and got into a fictionalised altercation with Hieron’s character.
While being interviewed in character, he said of his opponent:...

Acting is an inherently physical profession. A large part of the job deals with memorizing lines, tapping into extreme emotions, and bringing complex stories to life, but there's no denying that much of a thespian's life is spent physically embodying a wide range of characters. To convincingly portray another person, many actors spend a great deal of time perfecting the mannerisms, speech patterns, and physical charm of their roles, hoping to persuade the audience to suspend their disbelief and embrace the on-screen fantasy.
Occasionally, this transformation is as simple as a costume or a well-made wig. Other roles require a total body transformation, causing actors to spend months in intense training to build a physical framework that will allow them to fully tell the story. Christian Bale is known for these chameleon-like transformations and seems to remake his body for every new role he takes on. Though he has become...

Hey, remember back in 2019 when we revealed that a Michael Jackson biopic was in the works? As it turns out, the project is far from abandoned like you might have thought after four years of silence. Lionsgate has announced that the film, simply titled "Michael," will be headed up by "Southpaw" director Antoine Fuqua. Deadline broke the news of the film, saying that Fuqua will start filming the project after production wraps on "The Equalizer 3." However, The Hollywood Reporter received a statement from the director expressing his excitement for the upcoming project.
"For me, there is no artist with the power, the charisma, and the sheer musical genius of Michael Jackson," he wrote. "His music and those images are part of my worldview, and the chance to tell his story on the screen alongside his music was irresistible."

Rapper 50 Cent is gonna get rich or die tryin’…by adapting the movie 8 Mile for television.
50 Cent revealed his plans during an interview on Big Boy TV, confirming, “I’m gonna bring his 8 Mile to television. We’re in motion.” 50 Cent didn’t elaborate on any plot details, but reports suggest that his 8 Mile spin will be a prequel, allowing for a look at the early days of Jimmy, aka Rabbit, when he was just a kitten.
50 Cent cemented his idea by saying, “I think it should be there for [Eminem’s] legacy because it’s important to me that they understand it.”
50 Cent also boasted his own filmography, saying, “It’s gonna be big. I ain’t got no duds. I’m battin’ a hundred, I’m battin’ a hundred.” While that seems to be a bit of a stretch–he is most certainly not batting a hundred (.500 maybe…...

In an alternate, presumably better timeline, Will Smith’s long-expected Oscar win this past spring would not have involved the Slap heard and seen around the world. Instead, Smith would have ignored Chris Rock’s distasteful joke at Jada Pinkett-Smith’s expense, accepted his long-deserved Academy Award for Best Actor (King Richard), basking in the admiration of his peers and audiences around the world, and prepared for another Oscar run in the fall and winter of 2022 for his latest leading role in Emancipation, a bruising, unflinching Civil War drama directed by action-genre specialist Antoine Fuqua . That timeline, however, only exists as a hypothetical. In our timeline, Smith became persona non grata after the Slap, disappearing into relative anonymity for...

Antoine Fuqua was just a child when he was shot on the streets of Pittsburgh. But the memory is spectacularly vivid. “I was 15,” says the 56-year-old director of the Oscar-winning Training Day. “I remember running through an alleyway and I remember it raining and I remember hearing a voice say ‘run’. I don’t know where it came from. But I remember every detail of those moments. Every detail.”
Hearing Fuqua describe what happened is like watching a sequence from one of his own neo-noir movies. “The bullets hitting the telephone poles. The splintering. The sound,” he says. “The rain on the guy that was shooting. The glasses he wore. The water hitting his glasses. The rifle in his hand.” Each freeze frame comes with a gesture: Fuqua’s hands splayed wide for the bullets, his knuckles gliding past his eyes for the rain, his finger pulling an imaginary trigger.

In an exuberant social media post, Zac Efron showed a first look at the impossibly muscular physique he built to make himself ring shape for A24’s upcoming The Iron Claw.
Since Robert De Niro got himself into ring shape to play Jake La Motta in Martin Scorsese’s 1980 classic Raging Bull, it has become a badge of pride for actors to at least once put aside the pasta and wine, and hit the gym with fitness and fight trainers, severely alter their diets, and ingesting who knows what else, to get into ripped shape to be believable in the ring. Efron, if you saw Baywatch, has always had the muscle, and yet his ring photo is nearly as stunning as the one Deadline revealed of Jake Gyllenhaal when he starred in the Antoine Fuqua-directed Southpaw. When that photo went on Deadline, the site got so many hits we almost crashed.

Netflix has given a series order to the Western action drama “The Abandons,” which hails from Kurt Sutter.
The show was first reported to be in development at the streaming giant back in November 2021. Netflix has given the show a 10 episode order.
The show’s official logline states: “As a group of diverse, outlier families pursue their Manifest Destiny in 1850s Oregon, a corrupt force of wealth and power, coveting their land, tries to force them out. These abandoned souls, the kind of lost souls living on the fringe of society, unite their tribes to form a family and fight back. In this bloody process, ‘justice’ is stretched beyond the boundaries of the law. The Abandons will explore that fine line between survival and law, the consequences of violence, and the corrosive power of secrets, as this family fights to keep their land.”

After its debut at Sundance in January, where it earned the World Cinema Dramatic Competition award for directing, Ukrainian wartime drama “Klondike” nabbed top honors for best international film at the Chile’s 18th Santiago International Film Festival (Sanfic).

Updated: UFC champion Conor McGregor has joined the cast of the “Road House” remake, as first reported by Deadline. Sources say that he will be playing an original character in the movie and not a version of himself, as the project does center on a former UFC fighter (Jake Gyllenhaal). Production is starting in the Dominican Republic later in August.
Earlier: You want to fight? Jake Gyllenhaal is set to lead Amazon Prime Video’s reimagining of the 1989 MGM film “Road House.”
Famously starring Patrick Swayze, “Road House” centered on a bouncer with a mysterious past who overhauls a rowdy bar and takes down local corruption in the process. For the remake, Gyllenhaal plays a former UFC fighter who, per an official synopsis, takes a job as a bouncer at a rough-and-tumble roadhouse in the Florida Keys, but soon discovers that not everything is what it seems in this tropical paradise.
