This is a at least a 6 or 7/10. Before viewing, I thought all the user reviews down here were the writer under various guises trying to bump the film up! I thought what low budget trash is this! Pathetic! But - No. They are real people who are baffled at the current low (5/10) rating. I cannot say I blame them - IMDb ratings lately seem as about as honest as a 9 dollar note.
The insertion of the main character trapped in the foggy memories of the heroin user's mind for 4 years, trying to escape means the film runs through twists and turns in the plot aka the junkies mind and relationships and past horrific memories (robbing his own dad at gunpoint for example) is a reasonable plot - OK - It would have been far better if the junkie was much more of a dark character instead of a pathetic one - but the plot still moves along, and it's low budget doesn't hamper it.
Sure - it's nowhere near a 8 or 9, which I would say 'Limitless' is (in the same sort of apples to apples comparison - the same genre), or even another 'Inception' but certainly a decent watch.

A little slow to get started but stick with it for 20 mins and you won't be disappointed.
Without giving spoilers, the ending was a little "by the numbers" and I might have preferred a twist of some kind rather than a straight resolution. In saying that, though, certainly doesn't deserve anything less than a 6.
There's certainly potential for a sequel here and the ending I'm thinking of would have lent itself to that. No matter, though,
A very creditable early full-length work by Nir Paniry, who should now try his hand at something even larger-scale.

IMDb's recommendation seems to be working well since this is where I found this film. As an avid sci-fi fan, a regular indie film watcher, I can most certainly say this is indeed an excellent film.
When I read the plot, the first that came on my mind was Chris Nolan's Inception, and I love movies with themes of the human mind. Of course this film is different from Inception in so many ways, but Extracted is not a let down. What can also amaze you is, you can tell this film had a low budget, but it was done very well, and looks very professional.
The film starts slow but progresses well. Cast is good, all actors and actresses played their parts well, plot is great, ending is great.
It is true some things may not make sense in the film, but that is why the genre is sci-fi, where things that don't make sense are explained at its best.
Extracted is a great movie. Highly underrated, but excellent.

Whats not to like about an unique storyline, excellent acting, and a plot that will keep you guessing to the very end? Extracted is a good movie, it's not your big typical Hollywood production, but none the less this is a fine example of quality film and story making. I don't expect to see much push behind this movie, so the likelihood you'll hear much about it is improbable. This is one of those movies that has actors you've never heard of or seen before, and no big trailer push on the big screen or TV for that matter. This is your typical low budget movie in the sense that it has no name recognition with writers, directors, producers, or actors, but where it differs from other low budget films is this one is actually quite good. Don't let the unknown detour you from seeing this one, it's original, captivating, and engrossing, and worthy of viewer support.
Utterly confused about the title of this movie (it's either Extraction or Extracted) and its quality I dived in it, expecting nothing. What I got in return was something that seemed really innovative and new, but was actually a really old idea with a twist. It all revolves around a device that allows you to access and immerse yourself into other people memories and experiences, much like the movie Strange Days [1995]. This time we can witness how that device was made and funded, and eventually tested. The clash of the science and real, corrupt and devious world is another thing that I liked about Extracted. Although the hipster assistant was a bit too much. The cast is relatively unknown but they did their job really good. Dominic Bogart (Anthony) stole the show from lead actor Sasha Roiz (Tom), as the drug addicted accused of murdering his girlfriend. This doesn't mean that Sasha was bad, but just that Dominic was more passionate and realistic. Sasha redeemed himself, either intentionally or unintentionally, by giving his character a dose of douchiness, showing us that not everything is black or white.
Tom and Eric are a couple of scientist working on a machine that would allow them to go into peoples minds and memories. The main purpose of this device is to help autistic and other people with severe psychological and physical disabilities, but as the research starts to reach its critical phase they are forced to take funding no matter what obligations it may bring. Through Richard, their middleman, they contact a mysterious stranger who is willing to fund their research. As it turns out the mysterious stranger had some other things in mind when he decided to invest, but one thing remained the same, the test. They meet on a remote farm in the country, and there it all goes as planned, right up 'till the end where Tom is supposed to exit the subjects mind
The real rating of this movie should be 7 or 8, but I am giving it a 9 to encourage filmmakers and others to follow their example. With a unique script, several overlapping stories which all make you think and look at things from another perspective, Extracted is an example of how science fiction movie with a restricted budget should be made. You start with a very good concept idea, build characters on it, hire the right people to play them and eventually direct the whole thing. A job well done

At first I didn't really want to watch the movie because of the shaky cam, but when I started the film it didn't bother me at all.
The storyline sucks you into the movie(even thou its not revolutionary), you really want to know if the murder is the murder or not.
The acting is above average.
You would be stupid if you miss out this movie because its a low budget movie. Rent the movie, watch it, figure out who the murder is and watch the movie again to understand it.

Have you ever seen an episode of the sci-fi series 'The Outer Limits?' If you have, you'll probably be aware of the hour long science fiction shows which could be about anything out of the ordinary. You'll also probably be aware that they're pretty low budget and depend on the idea behind them as to whether they're good or not.
Luckily, for 'Extraction's' sake, the idea makes the lack of budget and stars worthwhile. It's about a man who invents a machine to look into people's mind. The first thought from the authorities is 'can it be used to ascertain guilt from potential criminals?' Therefore, they try it on a man accused of murder. However, nothing like this ever goes right and the inventor finds his consciousness trapped inside the accused man. Can he find a way out? And here we have our movie.
The direction is pretty standard. You may expect that being 'inside someone's mind' may allow for some stunning 'Inception-like' visuals. Well, there aren't any. It's a pretty linier story as he tries to make contact with his former family, but, if you can forgive its visual blandness, you should enjoy the ride. It's not a long film, which also makes it appear like an extended episode of a TV show.
The acting is good and it all ties up nicely, providing enough twists and turns along the way to keep you interested. Plus it even asks a few questions about 'memory' and just how reliable it really is. All in all, if you like your sci-fi a little slower with no real action and more thinking, you should give this a try.

Funny, I reviewed a movie a few days ago called A Dark Truth. It was absolutely dreadful. It had big name stars, an obviously bigger budget, and it failed at almost every level. Here we have a taught, thinking man's little movie with good but lesser known actors, fewer locations and much more impressive results.
The writing in this movie was top notch. The director paced the movie well. Most of the time I didn't feel the actors acting, and was involved in the story. The basic concept was clever, particularly the chance meeting of the two main characters.
The ending was satisfying and sufficiently logical that it maintained the sci-fi believability. Tough to do. Some of the character actions and plot twists were a little too convenient, but the problems weren't too distracting.
Not only do I recommend that you watch it, but watch it when you can pay attention to it. It is worth the effort. I really don't understand the low IMDb rating on this film. It is much better than it's rating.

Extracted is an unusual thing, true Science Fiction. It uses science to tell another side of what is man. It explores issue like memory, love, technology and our real identity.
These days, what people call Sci Fi movies are really Action/Adventure movies with ray guns and 3-D hologram projecting computers. The science doesn't explore anything any more about what makes us than setting the same basic story as a Western explores. Lots of shooting, just different guns. This movie has a few shots fired, but that much violence is a part of our sorry lives.
Is it great? No. But it is good. It probably got a low rating because it isn't what people expect - buckets of blood and tons of lead. That and I don't think a major studio was artificially pumping up the IMDb ratings just so it would sell.
If you're open to something different, try it. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.

I am shocked to see this film at a disrespectful 5.8 vote. This is the best indie film I've seen this year! It's like a low budget Inception and the writing is possibly even better. If the production had a bigger budget I would've love to have seen that end result. But they did EXCELLENT with what they had to work with. The acting was convincing (especially Dominic Bogart playing the junkie, brilliant job mate, just brilliant) and I found myself attached to the characters. Especially Dominic's character. A nice twist to look forward too at the end, I guarantee you won't be disappointed.
If you liked Inception, Source Code, Primer, Pi, Matrix, Love, You will really enjoy Extraction.

Overall an enjoyable movie, I really don't understand the use of shaky cam, it really takes away from the whole experience

I don't know from where to start, the cold acting or the extremely weak plot, or the bad casting, or the unpleasant story...
In my opinion, a Sci-Fi movie should have some cornerstone to be built upon, and a goal to be reached (or not reached) at the end. Both should have something to relate with science, in an imaginary or real way. That's why it is called a Science Fiction.
This movie is almost a derived documentary about what-if silly situations, not science, and not fiction. The movie is way overrated. 2/10 fits it good.

As with all films in this genre I assume it would be easy to look too much into it and uncover plot flaws or put it down because there isn't much action, but this film is more than your usual sci-fi bullets and blood film. The pace of the film is never dulled and it doesn't become boring because the characters and involvement you are likely to get drawn in very early on.
To summarise: - Great acting. - Best experienced in the right mood (this is no Inception). - Enough depth to be believable. - VERY well made on a fraction of the budget other terrible films are given.
As the other reviews have said I can hardly believe the low rating this film has been given.

This movie is a 7/10. I don't understand why it has such a low rating on IMDb. I was looking for a SF movie I haven't seen yet and even though its indie and low budget, that doesn't affect it all that much. There aren't a lot of special effects, but the acting is good, a little shaky at times, the camera gets a little awkward, but the story line is interesting and original, it'll keep you in for the hour and 20 minutes. I would compare it Source Code and The primer. The first one in the type of ideas hiding in the plot, the latter for the way it was filmed and low budget-y. The ending wasn't as good as I hoped it would be, a little too obvious. Its something to watch on a Sunday afternoon, but good nonetheless.

The reviews are very strange.. It's as if these people have never seen sci-fi before.. 🤔 Definitely worth the watch.. Acting is ok, but there are a lot of little details that knock it down to a medium score.. Just seems a bit stilted in dialogue and logic.. The cinematography could have been more fluid.. The concept was good.. Not much of a twist, but enough.. The ending seems rushed and tacked on.. It doesn't really flow with the rest of the movie.. Still, it is worth your time.. At least it leaves you pondering the possibilities.. Maybe with a bigger budget it would have helped smooth it out..

How accurate are our memories? If we needed to take life changing actions, how much should we trust a memory to reach a final conclusion? Can memories be used as hard evidence?
At the core these are the questions explored by the Sci-Fi movie, when a man invents a machine that can make a person look into other people's memories, and things go wrong in a test leaving his conscience living for years inside the memories of a man accused of murder.
With a bit of suspense, interesting concepts (like how can the inventor figure out on how to communicate with his "host" and create a relationship where both can help each other out), and some interesting relationships, particularly the between the accused and his father, and well resolved final part, this movie was enjoyable from start to finish.
Not spectacular, but well worth watching if you enjoy the Sci-Fi genre.

I'm taking the time to review this, which I often do not, considering I watch every movie that is released, because the rating on this movie is far to low. It's definitely not a 9 ( my rating standard is tough, ) which I have given it, but it's definitely far from a 5; I gave it a 9 in the hopes it's overall rating would be raised.
Anyways, how people are giving this such a bad rating are beyond me. Everything that you expect in a movie was there, great character portrayals, great writing, and obviously good direction. This director/writer I'll definitely be keeping an eye to see what he can do wit a bigger budget. Great work.

Tom (Sasha Roiz) invented a machine to experience another person's memories. He has to demonstrate it with imprisoned drug-addicted mid-level criminal Anthony (Dominic Bogart) who supposedly killed someone. Abbey (Jenny Mollen) is Tom's wife.
This is solid sci-fi premise. It's been done before. This one has its positive, one being Sasha Roiz. He's a great lead actor. This is a small indie, and it needs more money. The execution could be better. It needs to be more cinematic. It may be fun to have old school representational effects like crossing out the photos, but the movie needs more. This is good although the smaller budget does hold it back some.

A good sci-fi film should maintain consistency of the newly defined the laws of the future world. This movie fails at this very important rule, and therefore fails to make any sense at all.

I generally depend on IMDb ratings while watching random movies. Sad that this movie got a 5.9. Its deserves far more than that. I am giving this movie a 9/10 to make the rating a little better! Nice and original plot, no famous actors to boast of, keeps you engaged all throughout and finally a nice twist at the end. Everything is balanced in the movie. Even you start liking the actor as the movie progresses..And finally until the end you really want him to come out. Even Anthony's character is nicely portrayed..This is one of those movies which goes unheard of unfortunately. Please don't go by the ratings..watch the movie for yourself and decide..well i maybe glorifying it a little too much but you can call it inception's younger brother.
