Fox is sending more contestants into the wild.
The network has handed Extracted, a survival competition series, a midseason premiere date and has launched the show’s first trailer.
The show will launch on Monday February 10 at 8pm, the day after the Super Bowl, which will air on Fox, and leading in to Rescue: Hi-Surf, which was set to air after the big game but has been since replaced by The Floor.
Watch above for the trailer for the show, which unlike Fox’s other survival series Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test, features civilian contestants rather than celebrities.
It features 12 untrained competitors attempting to survive extremely grueling conditions, perilous terrain, and the threat of fearsome predators in the unforgiving Canadian wilderness.
Meanwhile, some miles away, their family members are locked down at a secluded headquarters watching them navigate their dangerous surroundings alone via a 24/7 live feed. The fate of each...

Here’s the Lowe down: Fox’s “9-1-1: Lone Star” finally has a Season 5 premiere date, almost a year and a half after its previous episode aired. “9-1-1: Lone Star” will return on Monday, Sept. 23 at 8 p.m., kicking off a premiere week for Fox and marking the first new episode of the Rob Lowe series since May 2023. (“9-1-1: Lone Star” took a hiatus last season in the wake of the Hollywood strikes.)
Among other news revealed on Tuesday by Fox, the network has made a slight tweak to its fall schedule: The Joel McHale-hosted series “Crime Scene Kitchen” will now return for its Season 3 in the fall, airing Thursdays at 9 p.m. behind Gordon Ramsay’s “Hell’s Kitchen” (back for Season 23!). The show originally scheduled behind “Hell’s Kitchen,” Season 3 of “Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test,” will launch in midseason instead.

Fox is the latest broadcast network to unveil its fall schedule, and there are some surprises.
We’ll start with the good news: 9-1-1: Lone Star will finally return to the air in September. Tina Pehme Kim Roberts
The series has been on hiatus for a year, but Fox is expected to give it a big promotional push as it succeeds the original 9-1-1 on Mondays at 8/7c.
16 months between seasons doesn’t bode well for the show’s future, but there’s a chance the numbers will still be strong enough to stay on the air.
9-1-1: Lone Star is being paired with Rescue Hi-Surf, a new drama series that will air on Mondays at 9/8c.
The Arielle Kebbel-led drama has also been confirmed to air along with the 2025 Super Bowl, hinting that Fox believes it will be a massive hit in the fall.

Live-action fairytales are all the rage in Hollywood (see: Beauty and the Beast), but what about live-action fairytales that enter a new genre altogether?
Well, if a new report collated by The Tracking Board is to be believed, Princesses could go on to become the answer. Hatched by screenwriter Nir Paniry (Extracted), the project only has a spec script to its name at the moment, but TB claims the treatment is being shopped to studios near and far – Disney included.
The elevator pitch is a “female-driven Avengers featuring classic fairy tale princesses,” and though it’s unclear which characters will feature – it’ll largely depend on where the project lands, essentially – we understand Joachim Ronning (Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales) is currently attached at the helm, with Lawrence Grey (Lights Out, Last Vegas) involved in a producing capacity.

Exclusive: Indie distributor XLrator Media is diving into content creation with John Suits and Gabriel Cowan’s film production shingle New Artists Alliance. The companies have inked a three-picture production and distribution deal to co-produce low-budget science fiction action thrillers, starting with the Brandon Routh-Caity Lotz astronaut pic 400 Days, now in post-production.
After seeing a self-described successful digital and VOD return on the $1.5 million-budgeted April sci-fier The Machine, XLrator’s CEO Barry Gordon was seeking similarly budgeted high-concept acquisition titles but found niche offerings to be sparse. He linked up with Naa, the producers behind recent genre pics Bad Milo and SXSW winner Cheap Thrills. The deal gives XLrator a stake in the pipeline driving content tailored to the kind of multiplatform release that made British android pic The Machine an iTunes high performer.

Gee, let’s enter the mind of serial killer! Cause, you know, that worked out so well for Jennifer Lopez in “The Cell”. Nir Paniry’s “Extracted”, which hits VOD and selected theaters tomorrow, is working with a tad smaller budget than the Lopez film, or Nolan’s “Inception”, which it also has more than a little resemblance to. Still, it looks pretty interesting if you’re in a mood for a little mind-screw and don’t mind the lack of big-budget Hollywood gloss. A scientist invents a technique to enter people’s memories deep within their subconscious when their mind is at its most vulnerable state. When he is tasked with entering a convicted criminal’s mind to see whether he committed murder, he is faced with his most dangerous and risky memory extraction ever. Starring Sasha Roiz, Jenny Mollen, and Dominic Bogart. Get extracted this July 26th, 2013.

This summer has seen cities demolished, landmarks destroyed and monsters rising out of the ocean, proving that Hollywood knows how to find massive backdrops for their blockbuster spectacles. But filmmakers of late have found an unlikelier location for thrills: the mind. Christopher Nolan dove deep with "Inception," Shane Carruth played in that territory with "Upstream Color" and even Pixar will delve into that area with 2015's "The Inside Out." Now, another film is also using the brain to spur some interesting narrative twists. Filmmaker Nir Paniry's "Extracted" stars Sasha Roiz, Jenny Mollen, Dominic Bogart and Richard Riehle and tells the story of a scientist who invents a technique to enter people's memories, and is tasked with entering a convicted criminal's mind to see whether he committed murder. Of course, he gets much more than he bargained for. In this exclusive clip, we see our characters preparing just as the...

Extracted played at SXSW 2012 but isn’t getting its UK release until September this year, quite some delay by any standard. The new trailer which is over at Yahoo looks to have some interesting elements to it, in its tale of a man (Sash Roiz) who develops the technology to not only access your own memories, but also the memories of others. He gets drawn into the memories of a suspected killer in order to get to the truth but finds himself stuck.
This looks to be playing on Inception’s ideas of reality, layers and perception, although it seems to lack the style or clarity of Nolan’s rightly lauded blockbuster. The cast list reads like a “who?” rather than a who’s who, but that’s not necessarily a reason to write it off. Big name stars are no guarantee of quality or success, though the extremely limited...

Catch the first poster for the sci-fi thriller / horror Extracted directed by Nir Paniri. The film opens on via Phase 4 Films, and stars Jenny Mollen, Dominic Bogart and Richard Riehle. As far as the design of this poster goes, I think it's pretty well made and almost reminds of those spinal tubes on Keanu Reeves' back in The Matrix. In Extracted, a scientist invents a technique to enter people's memories deep within their subconscious when their mind is at its most vulnerable state. When he is tasked with entering a convicted criminal's mind to see whether he committed murder, he is faced with his most dangerous and risky memory extraction ever.

Which identity is the real you? For Dollhouse star Eliza Dushku, this concept is all too familiar. Dushku joins fellow Buffy veteran Michelle Trachtenberg on the cast of the big screen adaptation of the comic book, The Scribbler, published by Image Comics and written by Daniel Schaffer.

You don't need to set something in space, or have aliens invading the planet, or lots of grand special effects, to make a science fiction story. The final frontier is perhaps not space, but the human mind, about which we still know next to nothing. Its exploration and visualization have been explored in many films, and Nir Paniry's Extracted, is a fairly solid entry into this canon. While it grounds itself in simplicity and straight-forward psychology, it misses some great opportunities for dramatic content.Brilliant scientist Tom (Sasha Roiz) has invented a machine that allows a person to enter the mind of another and walk around in their memories. Director & Screenwriter: Nir Paniry
A scientist is trapped in the memories of a criminal and must solve a crime in order to get back home to his family.
Cast: Sasha Roiz, Dominic Bogart, Jenny Mollen, Nick Jameson, Brad Culver
(World Premiere)
Film Synopsis (from SXSW.com)
Who’S It For?: Fans who are perfectly satisfied by science fiction television shows.
Overall
Extracted has a concept that is perfectly sexy for the lower standards of a cable TV series. With its simple story and lack of magnetic tension, it’s a reminder of the lower attention span asked for by most TV shows compared to any theatrical experience. Most TV shows (especially the ones that look like Extracted) feel like they’re meant to amuse viewers in-between commercial breaks. Viewers can move about their rooms while full episodes play out.

In which a review begs to open with a deep-seeming quote about memory – its price, its collapse, its malleability, its importance, something about Mark Twain – and fails utterly. Director and co-writer Nir Paniry attempts something similar with his Extracted. The film follows Sasha Roiz as Tom, an inventor who has crafted a machine that is able to plug into a person’s memory and allow them to experience it as if it was currently happening, all while processing those memories into video capture. Unsurprisingly enough, Tom’s invention doesn’t quite work as planned, and he’s plunged into the depths of another person’s memory – except the memories he’s found are bad ones, and he’s trapped inside of them. Though Tom creates his machine with the hope of helping people work through their past issues, when his apparent manager comes to him with an interested buyer who plans on using it for something very...

Nir Paniry's Extracted, playing at SXSW, is a classic case on how indie science fiction works. Focusing more on narrative and character than blockbuster explosions or motion captured creatures, Paniry wraps his story tightly around its central premise and leaves little fat around the meat. Extracted moves with a purpose, setting up the characters and conflict quickly so that there's plenty of room for the second and third acts to breath. The non-linear structure combined with the vast amount of time within which the story takes place create a scope that no amount of computer generated, alien landscapes could achieve. To give you an idea of what it's about: A scientist invents a way to look into someone's memories, to find those hidden moments we keep locked in our brains and travel through them, experience them first-hand along with the subject. The inventor of the project finds himself in...

SXSW starts tomorrow, hotels and airfares were sold out long ago, and Austin’s data networks are already trembling. I’ll be there, and here are 20 films and other things that I’m looking forward to catching.
1. Tchoupitoulas. Bill and Turner Ross won Best Documentary at SXSW in 2009 with their doc, 45365. Their new film, Tchoupitoulas (pictured), promises to be a similarly beguiling exploration of time and place. It is about, in the words of the filmmakers, “three kids, New Orleans at night, and Music,” and it’s produced by the founding members of Court 13, whose Beasts of the Southern Wild was Sundance’s most exciting discovery this year.
2. The Sheik and I. Note to politically sensitive Middle Eastern art fairs: you don’t commission a cinematic provocateur like Caveh Zahedi to make a film about “art as a subversive act” if you can’t handle the consequences. One did, and...

"Extracted" director Nir Paniry says, "When we love [films], we love them with all our heart. They seep into our hard-wiring like an old friend." Paniry has been working as a storyboard and comic artist for seven years, while moonlighting as a short filmmaker and screenwriter when time allowed. "Extracted" is his feature debut. What it's about: "Extracted" is a science fiction thriller about a man trapped in another man's past. Thomas Jacobs invents a way to watch people's memories from the inside. Going against his morals, he accepts an offer to enter a heroin addict's memories to literally see if he committed a crime. However, a malfunction causes his consciousness to become trapped inside the criminal's mind. Pulled from life and family, he remains a prisoner in the addict's memories for more than four years until he discovers the possibility of escape. Director Paniry says: "I feel that from the.

Extracted
Directed by: Nir Paniry
Starring: Sasha Roiz, Dominic Bogart, Jenny Mollen
Rating: Not Yet Rated
Release Date: Tba
Trailer Score: 7/10
Thoughts by Tsr: Selling a high concept sci-fi film like this is hard enough. Selling one with no notable stars or filmmakers is a whole different level. Sometimes you end up with a masterpiece like Primer, but more often than not it ends up being forgettable. I’m not saying Extracted needs to be as good as Primer – very few things are – but if it lives up to this quality trailer, it might be a film (and filmmaker) to keep an eye on when it bows at SXSW next month.
I’m not familiar with any of the main cast other than Sasha Roiz, but they all seem to be doing solid work – a few rough moments from Dominic Bogart aside. It also looks to be a fairly well-made film,...

The 2012 South by Southwest (SXSW) Film Conference and Festival runs March 9–17 in Austin, Texas, and now the full film program lineup has been announced. From a first glance at the list, it's pretty light on horror, but there are a few standouts.
In addition to the world premiere of Lionsgate’s The Cabin in the Woods as the Opening Night Film, which we already knew, here are the horror (and a few horror-ish or just very interesting sounding) highlights:
Killer Joe - Us Premiere
Director: William Friedkin | Screenwriter: Tracy Letts
Cast: Matthew McConaughey, Emile Hirsch, Gina Gershon, Juno Temple, Thomas Haden Church
A garish, Southwestern tale - a violent black comedy about a desperate Texas debtor (Hirsch) who plots to kill his mother with help of his family (Haden Church, Gershon). They hire a crazy Dallas cop who moonlights as a contract killer (McConaughey) to do the job, but Killer Joe...

Extracted, the sci fi thriller Sasha Roiz filmed last year, will have its world premiere at the South By Southwest festival in Austin in March. Filmmaker Magazine has the full SXSW lineup, announced earlier today.
Extracted will be screened in the Emerging Visions section. The date/venue info hasn't been posted yet, but it will probably show up on the film's page on SXSW.com one of these days.
This year, the festival runs from March 9 to 17.
Film synopsis, main credits & trailer, from New Artists Alliance:
Thomas Jacobs is a brilliant engineer who invents a device that enables him to enter the mind of a patient and observe them in their memories.

With Sundance 2012 Film Festival over, the next big one on the horizon is South by Southwest, which we’ll be heavily covering. The biggest chunk of the line-up has been announced today, which has some great premieres including 21 Jump Street, Tiff and Sundance hit The Raid, Will Ferrell‘s Casa de mi Padre, the documentary Girl Model (which we liked at Tiff), as well as the next from Broken Lizard, The Babymakers. There are many other promising titles included and you can see them all below. Check back for our coverage for the fest, kicking off March 9th.

Among them are 65 World Premieres, 17 North American Premieres and 10 U.S. Premieres. The organization already announced [1] Drew Goddard and Joss Whedon's The Cabin in the Woods would open the festival (the movie is phenomenal [2]) and today the majority of the remaining line up has been revealed. One of the highlights is the unbelievably smart and hilarious 21 Jump Street, directed by Phil Lord & Christopher Miller. Both of those are World Premieres. Other highlights include The Hunter, Killer Joe, The Babymakers, frankie goes boom, God Bless America, The Imposter, The Raid, Bernie and Casa de mi Padre just to name a few. After the jump, read descriptions of all the films that have been announced so far. Before I copy and paste the rest of the list, a few minor notes.

Tamblyn, Bentley and Piazza play three estranged friends and former bandmates who reunite to celebrate turning 30. They come together for a weekend in the desert and expose unresolved wounds as they struggle with who they have become and what might have been had they done things differently. Breaking into Hollywood wasn’t something Sasha Roiz (Caprica, Warehouse 13, Extracted) thought would happen. Starting out the Israel-born / Montreal-raised actor had a strong passion for theatre. "I didn’t get into acting until later in life. I entered acting school when I was about 25 and studied for about 4 years. Acting was something that I always wanted to do but didn’t have the courage to really pursue it early on. I was looking to become a classically trained theater actor initially."
Sasha’s road to success in film and television was his destiny, and here he shares how he got started, and how he made it through the rough spots along the way. He discusses his first major feature film The Day After Tomorrow with Jake Gyllenhaal, Dennis Quaid. Sela Ward, and Emmy Rossum and now his new series Grimm that premiere's October 21st on NBC.

Since yesterday:
Spoiler TV has the promotional pics from the next episode of Hart of Dixie and Comic Book Resources has a new interview with Scott Porter. He mainly talks about the X-Men animated series, which premieres on October 21. Snippet:
This version of the X-Men story is a very modern one that Warren Ellis initially wrote with a lot of influence from his "Astonishing X-Men" run, but the one twist that brings in the classic thread for Cyclops is that the series starts just after the death of Jean Grey at the end of "The Dark Phoenix Saga." What was it like to pick up the character after the worst tragedy in his life?
That made it completely interesting for me. To allude to why I have such respect for Cyclops, it's because he's been through hell. He's lost Jean how many times now? He has to control this odd...

Tons of updates today, most of them from Comic-Con.
Let's start with Sasha Roiz - he makes his first appearance on Warehouse 13 tomorrow (Monday, 9/8c, Syfy).
CP24 has a recent video interview with him and he also did a Q&A with the press that is finally up on several sites. I think Starry Mag has the least edited version of it. The interview is mostly about Warehouse 13, but he also talks about his other new projects and Caprica. Snippets:
So can you at least tell us how many episode we’re going to see you in Warehouse 13?
I’m not sure the specific number, but I mean I’m there for a good chunk. But I’m there for a good - yes, all the sudden this just doesn’t make sense you know. But no, I’m there for a good chunk of the season,...

Caprica 1x16, "The Heavens Will Rise," airs tonight at 10 pm on Space. Both this week's episode and the next one, "Here Be Dragons," were directed by Michael Nankin.
Beyond that, there isn't much info out there about the last few eps, but there has been a lot of speculation about some massive plot points that happen toward the end of the season, so whether you are DVRing, downloading, waiting for the DVD, or waiting for Syfy to air the episodes, if you don't like reading major spoilers, stay away from reviews and discussion forums. Great choice there for most people: either steal or be spoiled. Thanks for that too, Syfy.
That said, Space has posted the synopsis for "The Heavens Will Rise:"
The Graystones (Eric Stoltz & Paula Malcomson) search New Cap City for Zoe (Alessandra Torresani), while Lacy (Magda Apanowicz) uncovers a mystery about the Cylons. Clarice (Polly Walker) learns the truth about Amanda.

CapriCast has posted a video review of Caprica 1x15, "The Dirteaters." You can find it here.
Teresa Jusino over at Tor.com has a new interview with Bear McCreary. It's mostly about his work on Human Target last season, but he also mentioned some interesting things about the BSG piano book, Caprica score in season 1.5, and the possibility of the Caprica Season One soundtrack being released:
Will there be themes from Battlestar Galactica incorporated into upcoming episodes of Caprica? Will there be a connection musically as the show progresses?
Bear McCreary: Connection musically, yes. Themes, no. I will say this: starting very soon, the episodes of Caprica take a noticeable shift and the writing and the acting and editing and music is going to get tighter and more focused, and it begins a story arc that takes us to the end of the season.
