Events in this movie are concurrent with that of the first Skyline film. Presumably, both films are set in 2010, though that was never fully established; only assumed. The terror organization ISIS is mentioned in this film, even though ISIS was not considered a global threat in 2010. However, ISIS was founded in 1999 by Jordanian Salafi. The roots of ISIS trace back to 2004, when the organization known as Al Qaeda in Iraq formed. Abu Musab Al-Zarqawi, who was originally part of Osama bin Laden's Al Qaeda Network, founded this militant group.
