The French creature feature Survive is making its way to North America, as Deadline reports that Samuel Goldwyn Films has picked up the distribution rights and are planning to give the film a theatrical and VOD release sometime in January.

Directed by Frédéric Jardin and from a screenplay written by Matt Alexander (which is actually a shared pseudonym for Mathieu Oullion and Alexandre Coquelle), Survive follows Julia and her loving husband who celebrate their son’s birthday on their boat in the middle of the ocean. When a violent storm nearly capsizes them, the family awakes in a desert land. Earth has undergone a tragic polarity reversal, draining water from the oceans. The family must race to safety before the water returns all while battling hungry creatures from the abyss that hunt for fresh flesh. That sounds like a set-up for a good time to me!

Opening with on-screen text, Survive sets up the terror to come by highlighting how the Earth has experienced five mass extinction events since it’s formation. The most ominous part appears in the next line, which reads “The sixth is just beginning.”

Director Frédéric Jardin (2011’s excellent Sleepless Night) then focuses on a yacht cruising the Caribbean sea. Inhabiting it is a family made up of German oceanographer Tom (Andreas Pietschmann). his French doctor wife Julia (Émilie Dequenne), and their teenage children Cassie (Lisa Delamar) and Ben (Lucas Ebel). Their celebrations for Ben’s 13th birthday are cut short by a violent storm, leading to a rough night which nearly capsizes the yacht.

When the family awaken, they are shocked to discover that they are in a post-apocalyptic desert landscape.

Indian filmmaker Ali Abbas Zafar is returning to Yash Raj Films (Yrf), the studio where he made his first four films, Variety has learned.

Zafar made his feature directorial debut with Yrf’s 2011 romantic comedy “Mere Brother Ki Dulhan,” starring Katrina Kaif, Imran Khan and Ali Zafar. The film was a hit and Zafar followed up with the studio’s action film “Gunday” (2014), starring Ranveer Singh, Arjun Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra and Irrfan Khan, which was a massive success. Blockbusters followed, including wrestling drama “Sultan” (2016), starring Salman Khan and Anushka Sharma, which is one of the studio’s all-time biggest hits; and “Tiger Zinda Hai” (2017), starring Khan and Kaif, the second instalment of Yrf’s popular spy universe franchise created by studio head Aditya Chopra.

Shahid took to Instagram, where he posted a gamut of pictures. In the first photo, he is seen getting ready. The second image has him getting his turban fixed. Another picture shows Shahid posing with his father Pankaj Kapoor.

The actor is seen dressed in a black kurta paired with a cream coloured turban. While his actor-father Pankaj Kapoor is sporting a vest coat paired with white shirt and a turban.

“Dad always says ghar pe Shaadi hogi to pag paega na,” Shahid captioned the image.

The actor did not share the details about why or when he donned this look.

Fans couldn’t stop gushing over his look.

Bloody Daddy has an intense and focused Shahid Kapoor playing daddy to a young teenaged son who reacts to every effort of the father to reach out with, ‘Whatever’, ‘Dad, Chill’ and whatever jargon kids use to feel cool.

Almost the entire plot is set in a 7-star hotel owned by a sleazy but subliminally wired to be humane if needed, Ronit Roy, who is, as usual, first-rate. Ronit eclipses all the other talented actors in the room, barring Sanjay Kapoor who is impossible to eclipse as he always stands out, and not in a good way.

Filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri, who has always been vocal about what’s on his mind, has raised a question about Shahid Kapoor-starrer ‘Bloody Daddy’ streaming for free.

Calling it a “sad news”, ‘The Kashmir Files’ maker said that Bollywood is celebrating its own destruction.

Bollywood A-lister Shahid Kapoor makes his streaming debut with crime thriller “Farzi” on Amazon’s Prime Video service.

Through his career Kapoor has largely starred in films that are both critically acclaimed and commercially successful, including “Jab We Met,” “Kaminey,” “Haider,” “Udta Punjab” and “Padmaavat,” working with the cream of India’s filmmaking talent.

“Farzi” is led by renowned “The Family Man” creator duo Raj Nidimoru and Krishna Dk (together known as Raj & Dk), who are the showrunners, directors and executive producers. The screenplay is written by Sita R. Menon and Suman Kumar along with Raj & Dk. It is produced by the duo’s D2R films.

The show began life as a feature film that the duo were due to make with Kapoor but the story was too large to fit within a two and a half hour time frame.

Federation Entertainment is developing “Carlos Ghosn, The Fugitive,” a thriller mini-series starring Francois Cluzet as Ghosn, once one of the most powerful figures in the global car industry who is now an international fugitive.

“Carlos Ghosn, The Fugitive” will be directed by Frederic Jardin, whose credits include the hit crime series “Spiral” and “Braquo,” as well as the thriller “Nuit Blanche.”

The six-part series was created by Stéphane Osmont, whose screenwriting credits include Costa-Gavras’ “Le Capital” and Dan France’s “La vie devant elles.” The script of the series is loosely based on Régis Arnaud and Yann Rousseau’s book “Le Fugitif,” published by Stock in 2020.

Fanny Riedberger and Pascal Breton at Federation Entertainment are producing the event mini-series, which will chart the rise and fall of Ghosn, the former highly respected chief executive of Nissan who fled Japan to Lebanon in Dec. 2019 after facing a trial over allegations of financial misconduct.

One of Europe’s most formidable TV forces, Zdf Enterprises, the international distribution and co-production arm of German public broadcaster Zdf, has swooped on world sales rights to “White Night” (“Nuit Blanche”), the anticipated new show from screenwriter Julie Hivon who broke out in fall 2019 with “Amber Alert,” a big audience and critical hit in French-speaking Canada.

Georgina Campbell (“Black Mirror”) and Faye Dunaway are set to star in “Visceral,” a female-driven action thriller that will mark the English-language debut of Frederic Jardin (“Sleepless Night”). Bac Films has come on board to handle international sales and distribution in France.

Marco Cherqui at Cpb Films (“A Prophet”) is producing the thriller with Frida Torresblanco at Braven Films (“Disobedience”) and Bac Films which is co-producing. Jeff Elliott, David Grumbach (“The Leisure Seeker”), Eric Laufer and Giovanna Randall will serve as executive producers.

The movie reunites Jardin, Cherqui and Grumbach, who had worked together on “Sleepless Night.” Jeff Elliott at Brickell and Broadbridge is financing.

If Sleepless doesn’t seem like it is doing anything new it’s, well, not. A remake of Frederic Jardin’s 2011 thriller Nuit blanche (Sleepless Night) rebooted as a low-rent Luc Besson-style affair with half the wit, Sleepless isn’t an unbearable experience. It’s just not a terribly original film, one that seems to suffer a fate like many Hollywood-ized imports taken on by foreign directors: they bring all the style, but leave behind the substance and wit. As often happens, something is lost in translation, even if the absurd hand-to-hand combat and action “thrills” in a contained setting remain intact.

Swedish director Baran bo Odar helms from a script by Andrea Berloff (Straight Outta Compton) that, truth be told, could have been adapted into a tense little thriller in the right hands. One sequence involving a stabbing had me nostalgic for Park Chan-wook and what he might have brought to the table.

Fresh off the news that he is stepping down from Joe Fresh, the Dragons’ Den gets a new Dragon, and one that is sure to be an interesting addition.

The show, which for my money has more interesting pitches than Shark Tank, will be starting its 10th season, and with news that Arlene Dickinson won’t be returning, needed a Dragon that can keep hold of the show’s broad base.

FilmNation will introduce Efm buyers to the thriller starring Jamie Foxx and Michelle Monaghan, which Open Road Films is financing and will distribute in the Us.

The title is a reinvention of Frédéric Jardin’s French thriller Nuit Blanche and kicks off the recently announced strategic deal whereby Glen Basner and his team will handle sales for the fledgling Open Road Films International.

Using a projector, an Arduino circuit board, and some optical mouses, Über Cool Stuff owner and do-it-yourselfer Chris McInnis debuted the project at London, Ontario's Nuit Blanche art festival a few weekends ago.

It's worth noting that the idea for a life-sized katamari has been rolling around (get it?!) for a while now: McInnis got the idea from a hacker named Kellbot. The basic principle is to replace the PlayStation 2's analog sticks with an optical mouse that can read the yoga ball's movement and then send that signal to the game.

In any case, McInnis roped in other woodworkers, coders, electricians, and artists and eventually got the project working, complimented by some papier-mâché katamari and King of All Cosmos costumes.

Sometimes, a movie’s simplicity makes it effective. And whatever else can be said of Sleepless Night, or Nuit Blanche in its native France, it’s incredibly effective. Centered on an almost laughably basic concept—a French cop has to retrieve his son from a seemingly endless and seedy nightclub by returning some pilfered cocaine—this taut, relentless thriller from co-writer and director Frédéric Jardin is a must for any fan of the action genre. And if you get antsy at reading subtitles, forget it: Sleepless Night is breathless entertainment.

There's a reason we picked the French thriller "Sleepless Night" as one of the 10 best movies to play at this year's Tribeca Film Festival: It puts its American counterparts to shame.

When's the last time you saw a truly great American action film that didn't feature a single superhero, or one that wasn't animated (we're looking at you "Kung Fu Panda")? Not so easy to come up with one, right?

"The Raid: Redemption" was the last action movie to soar to great heights, and that came to us courtesy of Indonesia. Now we have the French to thank for shaking up the genre with one of the most breathless thrillers to come along in ages, the aptly titled "Sleepless Night."

Directed by the kinetically gifted Frédéric Jardin, "Sleepless Night" centers on a seemingly corrupt cop Vincent (Tomer Sisley), whose attempt to steal a bag of coke pisses of the resident kingpin.

"Holy s***, that was amazing!" Yea, you've got to see this! Tribeca Film has debuted the official Us trailer in high def via Apple for the French action-thriller Sleepless Night, which was one of my favorites from Tiff last year. I hands down loved this film, and three of us recorded a video blog talking ecstatically about it. Now one of my quotes ends up being used in the trailer - awesome! Tribeca Film will release The Giant Mechanical Man, Death Of A Superhero, and Sleepless Night nationwide via video-on-demand during the Tribeca Film Festival, which runs April 18.29. The films are each an official selection of the Festival and feature notable actors such as Jenna Fischer, Topher Grace, Malin Akerman, Tomer Sisley, Andy Serkis and Thomas Brodie-Sangster.

Tribeca Film also announced it has acquired North American rights to Booker.S Place: A Mississippi Story, rounding out its selection of titles to be released during the Festival. Booker.S Place is a riveting documentary offering a wholly original perspective on the Civil Rights struggle through its subject, Booker Wright. As is customary of most festivals these days, we’ve been informed (via Deadline) that four Tribeca titles will see a spring VOD release through Tribeca Film. In this grouping, we can look forward to Death of a Superhero (which we loved at Tiff), The Giant Mechanical Man, Sleepless Night (my most anticipated of the lot), and Booker’s Place: A Mississippi Story — all of which festival director Geoff Gilmore feels “embody the exceptional artistry and personal resonance that filmmaking at its finest can provide.” The lattermost of those will begin its VOD run on April 26th, while the other three can be expected on various platforms beginning April 17th.

The Tribeca Film Festival (Tff), presented by American Express, today announced its feature film selections in the Spotlight and Cinemania sections, as well as Special Screenings and the Tribeca/Espn Sports Film Festival lineup. The 11th edition of the Festival will take place from April 18 to April 29 in New York City.

The Spotlight section screens 34 films, 22 narratives and 12 documentaries that demonstrate the breadth of films at the Tribeca Film Festival. Nineteen films in the selection will have their world premieres at the Festival. The Cinemania section offers a largely international assortment of seven thrilling narrative films.

The next group of films screening at this year's Tribeca Film Festival has been announced, and while several seem more thriller than horror, we're including info on the most interesting sounding ones as well as the full Cinemania section.

“With Cinemania our selections demonstrate the imagination and resourcefulness of filmmakers from around the world who push the boundaries of genre in order to entertain, thrill, and engage,” said Frédéric Boyer, newly appointed Artistic Director of the Tribeca Film Festival.

A new big batch of films have been added to the 2012 Tribeca Film Festival line-up, and while there aren't a lot of big premieres in the bunch, there's a lot to catch up with for those of you (and us) who didn't attend Tiff 2011, Sundance 2012, etc. etc.

After an initial unveiling earlier this week, Tribeca Film Festival 2012 have announced the rest of their feature film line-up and it is a surprisingly strong one. We’ve got lots of great films that have premiered at previous fests.

Frederic Jardin's Sleepless Night (Nuit Blanche) is another buzz film coming out of the Midnight Madness programme at this year's Toronto International Film Festival. It's a white-knuckle action thriller that takes place over one night, following a dirty cop who gets caught up in a drug deal gone bad. After his son is kidnapped and held for ransom, he hits the seedy streets and nightclubs of Paris, racing against the clock to get him back. Just like The Raid, it was announced last week that a U.S. remake is already in the works. It will be produced by Roy Lee (Abduction, The Departed). Here's the first official trailer for the original film, however, which looks pretty intense. There are no English subtitles, but I'm not sure that you'll need any. Sleepless Night does not yet have a U.S. release date; check out the trailer after the jump and see what you think.

Nuit Blanche! I usually prefer to wait until a trailer comes out that actually has subtitles, but because this is one of my favorite films of the year, I'm posting this anyway. Twitch has put up an official French theatrical trailer for Frédéric Jardin's Sleepless Night, the action-thriller that we raved about after seeing at Tiff a few weeks ago.
