Then there’s a whole new slate of releases the streaming giants are providing to ensure top-notch entertainment for all viewers. Disney+ is one of the most popular digital platforms, and it has exciting new content releasing during the month of May. Be it brand-new episodes and the season finale of Doctor Who or Andor wrapping its second season, fans have a lot to look forward to. Here’s the hit platform’s release slate for May.

Is there a better month to have Disney+ than May, the Star Wars fandom’s holy month? May 2025 is extra special, with the second and final season of “Andor” in full swing on the streamer, along with tons of other Star Wars series, films, and specials.

The platform’s annual May the Fourth celebrations will including the premieres of “Star Wars: Tales of the Underworld,” a six-episode series about villains from throughout the galaxy; “Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge” and “Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance” — two immersive P.O.V. journeys inside rides at Disneyland Resort.

For Hulu subscribers, the Star Wars celebration includes the three original films and 2016’s “Rogue One,” the perfect post-“Andor” viewing to segue right into that trilogy. And, of course, there’s no shortage of brand new series and beloved films joining the Hulu library, including “Nine Perfect Strangers” Season 2 and 2024’s “The Last Showgirl.

The Walt Disney Company has revealed the Disney Plus May 2025 release schedule, which includes new Originals, movies, and TV series. The Disney+ streaming service features movies and shows from Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, National Geographic, and more, alongside exclusive Disney+ Originals.

The May schedule includes Minnie’s Bow-Toons: Pet Hotel, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, Star Wars: Tales of the Underworld, the Disneyland Resort specials Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge and Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, Tucci in Italy, and more.

The winners for the 36th Annual GLAAD Media Awards were announced on Thursday evening, in a Los Angeles ceremony hosted by Shrinking‘s Michael Urie.

First-time winners included Disney+’s Agatha All Along and Netflix’s Baby Reindeer, while Fox’s (cancelled) 9-1-1: Lone Star, Netflix’s Heartstopper and MTV’s RuPaul’s Drag Race were among the repeat winners.

Young Jedi Adventures is the little preschool show that keeps on winning. The Emmy Award-winning series is up for another prestigious accolade. It has been nominated for the 36th Annual GLAAD Media Awards for Outstanding Children's Programming. The award ceremony takes place on March 27.

It is one of the 10 all-ages series up in the nomination. The others are Strawberry Shortcake: Berry in the Big City, The Fairy OddParents: A New Wish, Firebuds, Fraggle Rock: Back to the Rock, Let's Go, Bananas!, Monster High, Sesame Street, Princess Power, and Vida the Vet.

The GLAAD Media Awards are a huge deal. According to their website, the award show will "recognize and honor media for their fair, accurate and inclusive representations of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) community and the issues that affect their lives." GLAAD is the largest media advocacy group that helps "battle discrimination with fact" and celebrates...

The nominations have been revealed for the 2025 GLAAD Media Awards, and one critically acclaimed LGBTQ+ film is notably absent from the pack of nominees.

The annual awards ceremony will return for a 36th year in 2025. According to GLAAD, it’s goal is to “recognize and honor fair, accurate, and inclusive representations of the LGBTQ community in an ever-expanding and media landscape.”

On Wednesday (January 22), the organization revealed the crop of nominees that would be honored at the ceremony. While projects such as Wicked and Queer were notably featured, Netflix’s Emilia Perez was left off the list.

The snub comes after GLAAD declared that the movie, which stars Zoe Saldana, Selena Gomez and trans actress Karla Sofia Gascon, was “not good trans representation” in a November 2024 essay. The story included reviews from transgender film critics and noted that “inauthentic portrayals of trans people are offensive and even dangerous.”

Winter, who had been a lifelong fan of Svu, immediately jumped at the chance to portray the character. She shared that after eleven seasons on one of TV’s most popular sitcoms, she believed that she could easily transition from Alex to Raegan. However, it was difficult for her as she revealed she wanted to do right by Raegan and do the best job that she could.

Based on the French series Haut Potentiel Intellectuel (Hpi), written by Drew Goddard (The Good Place) and starring It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia‘s Olson, High Potential follows Morgan, a single mom with an exceptional mind whose unconventional knack for solving crimes leads to an unusual and unstoppable partnership with the by-the-book, seasoned Detective Karadec (played by Graceland‘s Daniel Sunjata).

Disney Jr. has given the green light to Sofia the First: Royal Magic, a continuation of the Emmy and Humanitas Award-winning Sofia the First, which premiered in 2012 with the animated television movie Sofia the First: Once Upon A Princess and remains one of the most successful global preschool franchises for The Walt Disney Company.

The Sofia the First series still holds the record for the Top 3 cable TV telecasts for Girls 2-5 and, lifetime to date, has garnered over 755 million views on Disney Junior YouTube. From Disney Branded Television, the new series is currently in production and is slated for a 2026 premiere on Disney Jr. and Disney+.

Aimed at preschoolers and their families, the sequel is created and executive produced by Emmy Award winner Craig Gerber. Ariel Winter (Modern Family), who voiced the role of Sofia, Disney’s first little girl princess, in the original series, is set to reprise her role.

Sofia the First: Royal Magic is a continuation of the show that premiered in 2012 and ran until 2018. The sequel series follows Sofia, a young girl who becomes a princess overnight when her mother marries the king, continuing her adventures as she attends The Charmswell School for Royal Magic, an academy for princes and princesses to further their magical and royal education.

The show got its lineup in 1975 with guest hosts and musicians. There’s been a changing of the guard at High Potential. The upcoming ABC drama has set Todd Harthan (The Resident) as its new showrunner, our sister site Deadline reports, following the departure of original showrunner Rob Thomas (Veronica Mars, Party Down).

Production on the Kaitlin Olson-led series has been paused during the search for a new showrunner, but it will reportedly resume next month. Thomas and High Potential‘s parting of ways, which was first announced earlier this month, was said to be “amicable.”

Streaming is only getting more expensive and competitive, and the enticing bundle (which also includes ESPN) might be a version of cable TV, but it’s also just cost efficient. Disney+ is adding more new content to it’s library!

The streaming service has revealed all of the TV episodes and movies that will be coming out throughout the second to last month of the year, November 2023.

There are original movies premiering, new episodes of fan-favorite shows like Loki, Dancing With the Stars, and batches of new episodes for several Disney Channel series, plus the addition of Tom Holland‘s second Spider-Man movie, Spider-Man: Far From Home.

This November, Disney+ will be kicking off the holiday season, with the season two premiere of The Santa Clauses, as well as two new holiday movies – The Naughty Nine and Dashing Through the Snow!

There will also be three new episodes of Marvel Studios Legends, centering on Carol Danvers, Kamala Khan and Monica Rambeau, just in time for the new Marvel movie The Marvels to hit theaters.

Another day, another round of shows to watch! With the colder holidays coming up, we need to make sure we take the time to enjoy what our streaming services have to offer. After all, it's not just Halloween decorations that are appearing in stores and in front of peoples' yards. Some are already prepared for the winter holidays. While some would argue that it's a bit too early to prepare for the winter months of joy, our streaming services don't seem to agree with that.

Disney+ has a good amount of original shows coming back for their second season. Others have already started their second season, like Loki. Familiar faces will return to our small screens to reprise some rosy-cheeked roles. The kids are also going to enjoy the new seasons full of vibrant colors and characters. The long-running Disney Junior series “Mickey Mouse Clubhouse” is being revived with “Mickey Mouse Clubhouse 2.0” (working title), set to premiere in 2025. The new show’s description reads, “Mickey and pals welcome everyone back to the clubhouse for all-new adventures filled with songs, laughs, handy helping, and fun new surprises.” The Emmy Award-winning preschool targeted series originated in 2006.

New casting announcements have also been announced for upcoming Disney Junior shows. “Disney Junior’s Ariel” will star Taye Diggs as King Triton, Amber Riley as Ursula and Mykal-Michelle Harris as the titular star. The show is an animated musical series for preschoolers based on “The Little Mermaid,” following an 8-year-old Ariel and friends in the fantasy Caribbean-inspired underwater kingdom of Atlantica.

The new show “RoboGobo” will feature the voices of Cynthia Erivo, Valerie Bertinelli, Alan Cumming, Susan Kelechi Watson, Ana Gasteyer, Alison Pill and Dulé Hill in addition to a young voice cast.

Disney Branded Television and Disney Europe, Middle East and Africa (Emea) looks set to reveal a slew of new titles at France’s Annecy Animation Festival.

Apart from “Disney Junior’s Ariel,” a new series inspired by “The Little Mermaid,” pre-school adventure series “Magicampers” has also been greenlit.

Set at a day camp for magical creatures – its protagonists, Darly and Loomis, are half-pig and half-Pegasus, and half-donkey and half-unicorn – and created by Obie Scott Wade, it’s set to premiere globally on Disney+ and Disney Junior next year.

“We instantly fell in love with this ensemble of unique hybrid characters, who each combine something magical and something ordinary within themselves,” said Orion Ross, vice president of animation for The Walt Disney Company Emea.

“Their adventures in this lush fantastical world are wildly fun and also explore what it means to grow up and discover yourself.”

The streamers list of new releases for May 2023 is highlighted by none other than The Muppets! The Muppets Mayhem premieres May 10 and will, of course, follow beloved musical act Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem. The plot reads “Junior A&r executive Nora must deal with the madness caused by Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem, who come face-to-face with the modern musical business as they try to record their first-ever platinum album.” But really all we needed to hear is that there will be Muppets singing.
