The best part about breaking down an hour of From every week is figuring out how to begin. I usually want to start with a string of expletives because I’m either flabbergasted or confused as hell.
After From Season 3 Episode 9, I’m a bit of both.
It does not feel like these people are any closer to getting home this season, but they’re making discoveries left and right. So, what does that mean? What does that really mean in the grand scheme of things? I’m not sure.
(Chris Reardon/MGM+)
This hour revolved around the search for Fatima, but before that search began, we had many conversations with various people, perhaps none more interesting than the one between Boyd and Ellis.
Boyd and Ellis have this super complex father-son dynamic, and it’s one of the best relationships on the show.

Most people came to know Sophie Turner through her role as Sansa Stark on Game of Thrones, where she was a main player for all eight seasons. “I went from 13 to 23 on that show – it was my whole childhood," she told Bazaar for a recent interview. "We’re all still on a massive group chat, and we try and meet each other whenever we’re in the same country... they’re family.”
Turner was only 15 years old when Game of Thrones came out and even younger when she was cast. According to her, pretty much everyone in her school auditioned, but she got the part. “I don’t know how it happened, because my audition tape was absolutely horrific. But, somehow, they ended up casting me.”

The I Know What You Did Last Summer reboot cast is coming together in a promising way. We just learned that Golden Globe Award nominee Billy Campbell has joined the cast in an undisclosed role. I wonder who he could be playing in the slasher.
Campbell joins a growing list of actors who have already been announced to be in the cast, such as Madelyn Cline, Sarah Pidgeon, Tyriq Withers, and Jonah Haur-King.
Freddie Prinze Jr. was announced recently to have officially joined the cast, reprising his role of Ray Bronson from the original film and its 1998 sequel. Jennifer Love Hewitt and Brandy Norwood are also in talks to return in their roles as Julie James and Karla Wilson.
Additionally, Bodies Bodies Bodies star Chase Sui Wonders is currently in discussions about joining the cast of the upcoming Sony movie. However, who she will be portraying in the film is unknown.

With the release of ITV's new crime drama Joan, all eyes are on Game of Thrones alum Sophie Turner again. The Emmy nominee plays the titular role in the six-part series, based on Joan Hannington's 2004 memoir I Am What I Am: The True Story of Britain’s Most Notorious Jewel Thief. Ahead of the show's premiere, Turner spoke with The Times about her connection to the part and how being a mother herself changed how she approached her performance.

British actor Jamie Thomas King is adapting James Titcombe’s memoir Joshua’s Story: Uncovering the Morecambe Bay Maternity Scandal for the big screen.
King, best known for star turns in Mad Men and The Tudors, is penning a screenplay for Trust, a movie to be produced along with wife and Canadian actress Tamara Podemski as part of their newly-launched Blackbird Productions banner.
“Right now, I do not have intention to act in or direct the project. But yes, I became interested in the subject following Benjamin’s death and subsequent lawsuit,” King told The Hollywood Reporter on Thursday.
In 2016, the preventable death of their second son, Benjamin, due to medical negligence occurred five days after Podemski gave birth after a delayed caesarean section. The star of Reservation Dogs and Outer Range at the time had been 14 days overdue and was rushed to the Royal United Hospital in Bath, Somerset,...

Having achieved critical success with his 2023 release, May December, filmmaker Todd Haynes joined forces with Joker star Joaquin Phoenix for an untitled gay romance. Even though the Oscar-winner was heavily involved with its screenplay alongside Haynes, just five days before the production was set to commence, Phoenix abruptly pulled out.
As for the aftermath, the whole thing has been a nightmare per producer Christine Vachon, who defended her decision to cast Phoenix, a heterosexual person, in the shoes of a gay character.

While it isn’t exactly clear why Joaquin Phoenix chose to exit the film mere days before the production began, and per Variety, the actor reportedly got “cold feet”. Reflecting on the whole fiasco, producer Christine Vachon, who deemed (via People) the whole situation “a nightmare”, defended casting Phoenix in the role.

Todd Haynes’ new film has hit a snag after its lead actor exited the project just five days before filming was scheduled to begin. The untitled period drama is described as an intense romance set in the 1930s exploring a relationship between two men. Joaquin Phoenix had been working closely with director Todd Haynes and screenwriter Jon Raymond to develop the story. However, last week Phoenix unexpectedly withdrew from his starring role.
Sources confirm Phoenix’s sudden departure last Thursday has created challenges for the production team, which was already on location in Guadalajara, Mexico ready to start shooting. As the film’s lead, Phoenix’s involvement was key to securing financial backing for the project.
In an interview at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival, Haynes said Phoenix was encouraging him to push creative boundaries with the film’s explicit content. Phoenix has a reputation for committing fully to bold, unconventional roles.

Premiering at the Venice Film Festival later this month, Joe Wright’s “M. Son of the Century” sees the filmmaker return to the small screen for a long-form examination of fascist dictator Benito Mussolini’s rise to Prime Minister of Italy in 1922, a role which he held until his dismissal in 1943. The last time Wright helmed a limited series such as this was in 2003 with his BBC One show “Charles II: The Power and the Passion,” which covered 27 years in the life of the King as he worked to restore the monarchy. Exploring history has always been one of Wright’s strengths, but with the upcoming American election placing democracy on the ballot, his latest series feels particularly timely.
“M. Son of the Century” is led by Italian actor Luca Marinelli, who has earned international acclaim for his roles in “Martin Eden,” “The Old Guard,” and the FX series “Trust.

The 58th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival (June 28 to July 6) boasted not one but two competitions, the Crystal Globe and Proxima, presided over by the festival president Jiří Bartoška, artistic director Karel Och, and executive director Kryštof Mucha. The festival is the main summer event in the country, which attracts many sponsors and patrons who want to attend, and faces none of the financial hardships of such festivals as Berlin, Toronto, and Sundance. 130 films are shown, with 140,000 tickets sold. There is no room for growth, given the limited venues, from the many screening rooms at the festival hub, the Hotel Thermal, where juror Christine Vachon mixed Negronis for her fellow jurors between screenings, to the colorful arthouse Kino Drahomira, named after a revered Czech woman director.

“With a heavy heart, I tell you that my father, Donald Sutherland, has passed away,” Kiefer Sutherland wrote. “I personally think one of the most important actors in the history of film. Never daunted by a role, good, bad or ugly. He loved what he did and did what he loved, and one can never ask for more than that. A life well lived.”

Not even legends live forever. Donald Sutherland, the acclaimed Canadian actor with decades worth of roles and awards to his name, has died at age 88, Deadline reports. He is survived by his wife Francine Racette, who he'd been with since 1972. Sutherland had been married twice before meeting Racette, first to Lois Hardwick from 1959 to 1966 and then to the late Shirley Douglas from 1966 to 1970.
Sutherland also leaves behind five children: Kiefer ("24"), Rachel, Rossif ("Three Pines"), Angus ("1917"), and Roeg. All of Sutherland's children followed him into the entertainment business: Kiefer, Rossif, and Angus are actors, Rachel is a production manager, and Roeg is a talent agent.
Born in Saint John, New Brunswick on July 17, 1935, Sutherland had a middle-class upbringing -- his father Frederick was a salesman and his mother Dorothy was a teacher. However, he was also a sickly child, suffering at different points from polio, rheumatic fever, hepatitis, pneumonia, and scarlet fever.

Exclusive: Here’s a buzzy series coming together that should get the attention of networks.
Christina Ricci, recent Golden Globe nominee for Yellowjackets, and Midnight Mass star Hamish Linklater are set to lead true crime series Chop Shop, which is set against the funeral business in 1980s San Fernando Valley.
Inspired by the Kathy Braidhill book of the same name, the series will chart the chilling and twisted tale of the Lamb Funeral Home in 1980s Los Angeles. When David Sconce — the Machiavellian scion of a Bible college football coach and a church organist — takes the reins of the family business, the seemingly All-American clan begins a jaw-dropping descent from saints to sinners. Desperate to keep their funeral home afloat, Sconce engineers a sinister new business strategy, replete with human body harvesting and mass cremation. Sam Mendes is undoubtedly one of the best filmmakers of our times. Among his many hit films are American Beauty (1999), which earned him the Academy Award and Golden Globe Award for Best Director, then Road to Perdition (2002), Jarhead (2005), Revolutionary Road (2008), the James Bond films Skyfall (2012) and Spectre (2015), and the critically acclaimed war film 1917 (2019). He also made Empire of Light in 2022 but has not been active since. Yet, earlier this year, it was reported that Mendes was working on an ambitious four-film project related to arguably the best band ever – The Beatles!

It’s only fitting that on the day the score drops for Challengers, composed by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, Thom Yorke’s first score since Luca Guadagnino’s Suspiria would arrive. The Radiohead and Smile frontman’s latest work is the 12-track score for Daniele Luchetti’s Confidenza aka Trust, the Italian director adaptation of Domenico Starnone’s novel.

Megadeth surprised fans with an impromptu acoustic set in front of the Hotel Madero in Buenos Aires.
Local Argentinians and Megadeth faithful who happened to catch the performance were treated to unplugged renditions of “Trust,” “Angry Again,” and “Symphony of Destruction.” And by unplugged, we mean totally acoustic — no mics, open air. Drummer Dirk Verbeuren doesn’t even have an instrument and instead slaps his thighs to the beat.
In the fan-filmed footage, the gathered crowd sings along soccer-chant style and actually overtakes the band in volume.
The pop-up set reprises Megadeth’s previous outside-of-hotel acoustic sets in Buenos Aires in 2016 (Four Seasons) and in 2018, when Mustaine played a surprise unplugged solo set for fans outside a hotel in Mendoza, Argentina, during a brief vacation following shows in Mexico.
Megadeth’s current Latin American tour runs through the end of April, followed by a European jaunt in June (tickets available here.

When rock and pop A-listers have needed a world-class country singer to sing on their song over the past few years, they usually call Chris Stapleton. Since his last album, 2020’s Starting Over, the 45 year-old traditionalist has duetted with Taylor Swift and Adele, written songs with Santana, and collaborated with Tom Morello and Pink. But that doesn’t mean he’s no longer a country centrist, having worked with everyone from Carly Pearce to Morgan Wallen to Willie Nelson.

Chris Stapleton has announced that his fifth studio album, Higher, will drop on November 10th via Mercury Nashville. As a preview, he’s also shared the record’s first single, “White Horse.” Listen to the song below.
Co-produced by Stapleton along with his wife Morgane Stapleton and his longtime collaborator Dave Cobb, Higher is the first LP from the 45-year-old country star since 2020’s Starting Over. The 14-track album will “span genres and defy easy categorization,” according to a press release. Pre-orders are ongoing.
The single “White Horse” certainly suggests that Stapleton is leaning into his strengths as a cross-genre act. Lyrics about cowboys “ridin’ off into the sunset” create a classic country vibe, but the electric guitar-driven arrangement feels akin to straight-up rock music, with a thick wall of sound delivering the powerful harmonic progression, and a guitar solo that’s a whole lot closer to Lynyrd Skynyrd than Chet Atkins.

When Tim Burton was making "Batman" back in the late 1980s, he was approached by Warner Bros. about the possibility of including a few hot pop songs on the soundtrack. The studio's idea was to invite Prince to write several songs and to release a soundtrack record alongside an album of Danny Elfman's notable score. While Burton was a fan of Prince -- and who isn't? -- he didn't like the idea of including pop songs in "Batman." The studio, however, got their way, and songs like "Trust" and "Partyman" underscored several notable scenes in Burton's movie. Burton hated the result. He was once quoted as saying:
"It completely lost me. And it tainted something that I don't want to taint, which is how you feel about an artist. And actually, I liked his album. I wish I could listen to it without the feel of what had happened.

There are a number of reasons why Joel Schumacher’s Batman Forever is not held in higher regard by fans of the Caped Crusader’s cinematic outings. Bat nipples, swapping Billy Dee Williams out for a scenery-chewing Tommy Lee Jones as Two-Face, and a sequence in which Chris O’Donnell’s Dick Grayson demonstrates his suitability for the role of Robin via some laundry-based karate all rank pretty highly.
Yet if there is one element of the movie that has stood the test of time more than anything, it’s the soundtrack. Batman Forever arrived at multiplexes in 1995, and it was a time when movie soundtracks were still a key part of the marketing machine. Few would play that game better either than the first one with Bat-nipples.
