With the first two episodes of MGM+'s Earth Abides now available, we recently sat down with series leads Alexander Ludwig (Bad Boys For Life; Vikings) and Jessica Frances Dukes (Ozark; Outbreak) to talk about their excellent new sci-fi series and the very interesting dynamic between their characters Ish and Emma.
The series synopsis reads, "Ish, a brilliant but solitary young geologist living a semi-isolated life, awakens from a coma only to find that a global plague has all but wiped out humanity. In the aftermath, Ish is forced to look for what he was so certain he could live without, other people. These last few shattered survivors will be humanity’s second chance, the last hope against the slide into extinction."
In our informative conversation, Ludwig breaks down the challenges of playing his character, who we get to watch mature from a young man across several decades into the leader of the new world,...

Sony is going one week earlier with the Keke Palmer and Sza R-rated comedy, One of Them Days, unspooling the title on the 4-day MLK weekend which kicks off Jan. 17, 2025.
Pic’s new spot will take advantage of 95% colleges on break on Monday. There are also no comedies dated this holiday season, so that’s a plus. One of Them Days will go up against Universal/Blumhouse’s Wolfman and Paramount’s expansion of September 5.
The Lawrence Lamont directed movie follows best friends and roommates Dreux (Keke Palmer) and Alyssa (Sza) who are about to have One of Them Days. When they discover Alyssa’s boyfriend (Joshua David Neal) has blown their rent money, the duo finds themselves going to extremes in a comical race against the clock to avoid eviction and keep their friendship intact.

It was heart-shattering for Will Smith when his son Jaden Smith asked to be emancipated from his parents at the age of 15. Keke Palmer’s latest revelation about how Smith helped her decide against moving for emancipation makes the whole situation with Smith and his son sadder. Palmer shared that she was so pressured by her newfound role as her family’s breadwinner that she considered the legal step.

After the shocking 2022 Oscars incident which involved Will Smith smacking Chris Rock for a supposedly offensive joke, the internet had a field day. Keyboard warriors were split, half condemning the actor’s impulsive actions while others trivializing the entire ordeal.
The online debate of what would have Smith done if that quip had been delivered by someone like Mike Tyson finally has an answer. The boxing legend revealed on his podcast the consequences of their potential brawl, stating there would have been no need for a confrontation. Tyson’s statement justified why the Suicide Squad actor wouldn’t need to have a face-off with him.

Blockbuster action director Michael Bay and Will Smith are set to reunite for Netflix film Fast And Loose. Here are the details.
Having previously collaborated fruitfully on the Bad Boys franchise in the 1990s and early 2000s, Will Smith and Michael Bay are finally reuniting for a new movie. It’s an action thriller called Fast And Loose, which is being made for Netflix.
It’s Smith and Bay’s first film together for two decades, and sounds an awful lot like 1990’s Total Recall but with the bits on Mars taken out.
The synopsis, via Deadline, reads as follows:
A man wakes up in Tijuana with no memories. As he pieces together his past, he learns he’s been living two lives: one as a crime kingpin and the other as an undercover CIA agent.
Despite the well publicised events at the Oscars a few years ago, Will Smith...

Tom Cruise has turned enough impossible dreams into reality to make him a real-life miracle man. But the movie star’s obsession with defying death and his own mortal strength has also made the world respect him even more than they love him. In recent years, fellow movie star Will Smith too has felt the effects of the fan craze that the Mission: Impossible star leaves in his wake.

When attempting to break into a nascent film industry, many filmmakers place their bets in tried and tested formats. Family dramas, romantic comedies, action thrillers. But, in the Arab region, where countries like Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates are still taking their first steps into building a robust film industry, filmmakers are tapping into highly connected, media-driven young audiences with their films.

Maybe there’s hope for quality Netflix originals apart from its awards contenders. “Rebel Ridge,” a topical thriller about an ex-Marine confronting a corrupt small-town sheriff, is #1 at Netflix. It stars Aaron Pierre — who stepped into the role after John Boyega walked off the production in June 2021. A respected actor and ascendant star, Pierre is not a household name like Mark Wahlberg or Adam Sandler or Eddie Murphy, all of whom recently took Netflix originals to #1.
Nor is it a flashy drama, or a big-budget production. Its director, Jeremy Saulnier, most recently directed “Hold the Dark” for Netflix in 2018 (along with a couple of episodes of “True Detective”). IndieWire has watched his career for years, but directors like these also have wound up at Netflix making films that lack edginess or creativity. This seems like a happy exception. Bad Boys, Bad Boys, watcha gonna do? Watcha gonna do when they come for you?
It’s hard to believe, but we’ve only gotten four Bad Boys movies despite it being an almost thirty-year-old franchise. With Will Smith’s stardom reaching truly epic levels, he never really had time to become a “franchise” guy outside of Men in Black (which he eventually left as well), which, in some ways, has been a blessing to this buddy cop series. While audiences are a bit sick of franchises that crank out movie after movie, the Bad Boys films are still pretty fresh, so when they return occasionally, audiences are happy to see them (with the series showing no signs of waning). But, of the movies, which rule the roost as the best of the best? Let’s take a look with our Bad Boys movies ranked list!

Michael Bay’s Bad Boys with Will Smith kicked off the director’s career, where he introduced his distinct visual style. While his films may not be for everyone, no one can deny that he is a visionary filmmaker with a bombastic and gritty approach to staging action sequences. In addition to being known for the Transformers franchise, he is also celebrated for crafting the Bad Boys franchise.

The success of the first film put Smith and Martin Lawrence on the map, catapulting their star power in the industry. Bay created something special with the first film and there was huge pressure to deliver when they were developing a sequel. The film was going up against tentpole films Hulk and The Matrix: Reloaded and the director did his best to mount the film to the level of those two films.

Will Smith and Martin Lawrence worked together to create one of cinema’s biggest franchises in the Bad Boys series. But in the second film, Michael Bay was facing some stiff competition from other action movies. This had a small but effective impact on how Bad Boys 2 turned out.

How ‘The Crow’s Wings Got Clipped At The Box Office: Reboot Of Brandon Lee Cult Pic Bombs With $4.6M
After 16 years of fits and starts, a $50M reboot of 1994 goth thriller The Crow finally flew into theaters and dropped out of the sky with a disastrous $4.6M opening.
Forget about critics plucking the feathers from The Crow at 19%, those moviegoers who attended Thursday night, predominantly fans, slammed the movie on Comscore/Screen Engine’s PostTrak with one star, a 47% grade and a 36% definite recommend.
Lionsgate limited its skin in the game with a $10M North American acquisition and $15M P&a on this Rupert Sanders-directed take, starring burgeoning It and John Wick: Chapter 4 genre star Bill Skarsgård. At the end of the day, the studio stands to lose more — in the neighborhood of $30M — on its $110M-plus feature take of gonzo sci-fi video game Borderlands.
So why make a big deal here on The Crow? Even if, let’s say, Lionsgate possibly breaks even in pic’s...

Updated: Nrg just reported an $80M opening weekend for Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice.
Previous: Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, the long-awaited Warner Bros sequel to the 1988 Tim Burton-directed haunted comedy starring Michael Keaton, landed on three-week tracking this Am with an outlook of $65M-$75M — but don’t be surprised if it does more for there’s too much fuel on this building box office bonfire.
Recent box office history has shown that these long-delayed sequels — i.e. Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Bad Boys for Life, Top Gun: Maverick — have great theatrical potential. Note, no one is seeing Beetlejuice Beetlejuice in the vicinity of Force Awakens or Maverick yet. One astute industry source remarked, “This looks bigger than Despicable Me 4.” That pic posted a 3-day opening of $75M and 5-day of $122.6M last month and has banked $332.6 million domestic and $808.5 million worldwide.
The movie, which also headlines Wednesday star Jenna Ortega, is attractive with women,...

July 2024 ended on an extreme high note at the box office with the return of Marvel Studios and the biggest opening weekend in theaters since “Spider-Man: No Way Home” in late 2022. Read on for the weekend box office report.
The big hurdle facing Marvels’ “Deadpool and Wolverine,” teaming the popular Marvel characters played by Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman with a ton of surprise cameos, was that it was being released with an R-rating, and it was a fairly Hard R with lots of swearing and bloody violence. Some thought that might hurt the movie’s box office chances, but after ending up with 80% on Rotten Tomatoes, things generally were looking up as soon as the movie opened.
The movie pulled in $38.5 million in Thursday previews, just below 2018’s “Avengers: Infinity War,” which went on to open with $257.7 million back in the summer of 2018. It also made $64 million overseas in earlier showings before the weekend.

The dust is settling at the weekend box office as the final numbers start coming in for Marvel’s Deadpool & Wolverine. In our box office estimates, we pegged the film coming in at $200 million, and now it looks like the movie just blew past that mark, with Comscore revealing the film grossed $205 million this weekend. That breaks several records, with it now the highest-opening R-rated movie of all time. The number two and three spots on the biggest R-rated openers of all time belong to Deadpool and its first sequel. The first movie made $132.4 million, and the sequel grossed $125.5 million over their opening weekends.
That opening also takes the film into the top 10 biggest openers of all time, with it slipping into 8th place now between two other MCU movies, The Avengers and Black Panther. That’s a pretty incredible result for an R-rated movie. Still, audiences absolutely love...

"Bad Boys" is one of the best movies that Michael Bay ever made. The first movie puttthe director on the map with a recognizable visual style and a fun story, while the second movie remains one of the most violent and nihilistic action movies ever made -- as well as being Bay's finest movie to date. After Directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah brought a fresh and unique perspective to the franchise in "Bad Boys for Life," which seemed to be a swan song for Will Smith's Mike Lowry and Martin Lawrence's Marcus Burnett, the acting duo -- as well as the directing duo -- all return for what is arguably the funniest movie in the franchise, "Bad Boys: Ride or Die."

The fun thing about the box office is that it always has the potential to throw a few surprises our way, and that’s exactly what happened on this hot and humid mid-July weekend. Read on for the weekend box office report.
Universal’s animated sequel, “Despicable Me 4,” remained in the top spot at the box office this weekend with an estimated $44.7 million, down 40% from its 4th of July opening weekend, bringing its domestic total to $211.1 million. It added another $88 million internationally in 78 markets for an overseas total of $226.7 million and $437.8 million globally. It has also become the first animated franchise to reach $5 billion globally with six movies to date and a third “Minions” movie just announced for summer 2027.
The big surprise of the weekend had to be Oz Perkins‘s eerie serial killer thriller “Longlegs” starring Maika Monroe and Nicolas Cage, which received great reviews with 87% on Rotten Tomatoes...

As expected, Illumination Entertainment’s Despicable Me 4 had no problem claiming the top spot over this holiday weekend. Deadline reported that the film posted a strong – but not franchise record-setting $75 million (which isn’t far from what we predicted earlier this week). With the holiday gross, the film’s five-day total is a muscular $122.6 million. That’s the second biggest opening for one of the Despicable Me movies, but it pales compared to the Minions spin-off films, which both opened well north of $100 million on their opening weekends.
Notably, despite the common consensus that two family-oriented films would bite into each other’s box office this weekend, Pixar’s box office juggernaut, Inside Out 2, continued to hold steady with $33 million, only a 42% decline from last weekend. So far, it’s made an incredible $536 million domestically. A Quiet Place: Day One performed within franchise expectations, slipping 60% to $21 million, with...

Beverly Hills Cop is one of the best and most iconic franchises in the action comedy genre, and most of the credit for that goes to its leading man, Eddie Murphy. Created by Danilo Bach and Daniel Petrie Jr., the first film in the franchise came out in 1984, and now, with the fourth film coming out nearly thirty years after the third and the worst film in the franchise came out, the hype for the franchise and its iconic theme song is back on the top. So, if you loved Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F, here are some more great action comedy films you could watch next.

“Inside Out 2” (Disney) in its third week will gross $57.4 million, with “A Quiet Place: Day One” (Paramount) estimating $53 million. The last time two films grossed over $50 million on the same weekend was last July, when “Barbie” and “Oppenheimer” opened. Before that? 2017.
This is rare because distributors like to space out films with this potential. Even though it’s not a direct competitor, Paramount likely opted to open its prequel two weeks after Pixar. No one expected “Inside Out 2” to be this strong at this point ($469 million domestic after only 17 days).
This is summer the way it’s supposed to be. Three films opened to over $50 million over four weeks, and “Despicable Me 4” (Universal) opening Wednesday should make it four over five weeks. It justifies more optimism for the future than we’ve had for a long time.

The weekend box office results are in, and as we predicted earlier this week, Pixar’s Inside Out 2 was able to hang on to the top spot, earning a strong $57 million in its third weekend, bringing its domestic total to an outstanding $469 million. To put that number in context, it’s already grossed over $100 million more than the first film did in its entire North American run. It received heftier than expected competition from A Quiet Place: Day One, which set a franchise record with an outstanding $53 million gross. Clearly, the slow start to the summer box office has turned a corner, with audiences finally hitting theatres again.
However, adult-oriented fare seems to be struggling, with Kevin Costner’s three-hour passion project, Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1, only earning $11 million this weekend. That’s a low result for a movie that Kevin Costner invested a significant chunk of his own money in,...

“A Quiet Place: Day One” is making noise at the box office, collecting a roaring $53 million in its domestic opening weekend. The nearly silent thriller added $45.5 million internationally for a global tally of $98.5 million.
Though it landed in second place behind Disney-Pixar’s billion-dollar blockbuster “Inside Out 2,” the ticket sales for “Day One” are especially impressive because spinoff stories usually don’t bring in as much business as direct sequels. Yet “A Quiet Place: Day One” — a prequel in Paramount’s post-apocalyptic horror series — landed the biggest debut in the franchise, exceeding the original 2018 “A Quiet Place,” ($50 million to start) and the 2021 sequel, “A Quiet Place Part II” (a $48 million debut during Covid).
“We listened to the fans about what they’d be looking for,” says Paramount’s president of domestic distribution Chris Aronson. “This origin story, giving them a new city as the setting and fresh characters, all conspired to broaden the audience.

Will Smith & Martin Lawrence Film Nears $300 Million Milestone(Photo Credit –Instagram)
The latest film in the Bad Boys Franchise continues to break records despite fresh competition from Inside Out 2. In its third week, Bad Boys: Ride or Die, featuring Hollywood stars Will Smith and Martin Lawrence, soared past Bad Boys II as the second-biggest instalment in the long-running franchise’s history, both domestically and worldwide. The film is also nearing a $300 Million milestone.
Inside Out 2, which smashed records during the second weekend, becoming the highest-grossing film in the world in 2024, did not deter Bad Boys’ performance. While the 2020 threequel Bad Boys For Life’s $424M is the highest-grossing film in the franchise, Bad Boys: Ride Or Die is eyeing a $400 Million Global run, becoming the second-highest installment in the franchise.
The slapgate controversy plaguing Will Smith did not dim his star power globally, as evidenced by the box office.

The final box office results are in for the weekend (courtesy of ComScore), and Inside Out 2 officially has the biggest second weekend for an animated film of all time. The mega-blockbuster from Pixar made $100 million this weekend for a mighty $355 million domestic haul in only two weeks. Certainly, it’s proving to naysayers that Pixar’s back at the top of the animated heap after a few flops and not in danger of losing prestige anytime soon. That said, it can’t help but feel like the success of Inside Out 2 may pave the way for more and more “safe” movies, like sequels, making me wonder if the days of them tackling more ambitious fare like Wall-e are behind them. We’ll see.
Second, as we predicted, is Bad Boys: Ride or Die, which is holding up even better than expected, with an $18 million-plus weekend and a domestic total of $146.9 million.

Will Smith and Martin Lawrence have been the main attractions of the Bad Boys franchise. Ever since they paired up for the first time in 1995, the duo has showcased an electrifying charisma and entertained their audience in the high-octane buddy cop film series.

Since the first film was a massive success at the box office, the salaries of the actors increased significantly from the second film onwards and became some of the highest earners in Hollywood. However, Lawrence’s salary was nothing compared to the Hancock actor.
During an interview with Breakfast Club Power 105.1 FM, Smith snapped when talking about equal pay in the film. Though they did not disclose the exact figures, the way the Men in Black actor reacted showcases that the difference would be humongous.

Inside Out 2 continues dominating the box office in its second weekend, with Deadline reporting that the movie is looking at a $98 million weekend – some say it could even break $100 million. This would make it the highest grossing second weekend for an animated film of all time, after The Super Mario Bros Movie’s $92 million second weekend last year. Certainly, the animated sequel is shaping up to be one of Pixar’s biggest hits ever, which is quite the coup for a studio that everyone thought was on the downslide just a few months ago after a series of underperformers like Lightyear, Elemental, and more.
Meanwhile, Bad Boys: Ride or Die is holding on to second place with an $18 million-plus third weekend. The movie is turning out to be a major moneymaker for Sony, with it looking to end as the second-highest-grossing Bad Boys movie of all time, just below...

It’s still all smiles for “Inside Out 2” as Disney and Pixar’s animated sequel continues to dominate box office charts in its second weekend. The emotional motion picture added $30.5 million on Friday, bumping its domestic haul to $285.7 million. That’s enough to surge past “Dune: Part Two” ($282 million) to become the highest-grossing North American release of 2024 so far — and with only eight full days in theaters.
What’s more, “Inside Out 2” has a shot at another record, with the potential to land the biggest second weekend ever for an animated film. That currently goes to last spring’s “The Super Mario Bros. Movie,” which coined $92.3 million in its sophomore frame. Whether or not it can get there, it’s still a huge success for Disney and Pixar and a more-than-welcome hit after the summer season kicked off with a series of underperformers.

As Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios continue the search for a director to helm Spider-Man 4, several names have been rumored to be in contention to land the gig, including Bad Boys For Life duo Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah.
The filmmakers are no strangers to the superhero genre, having previously helmed episodes of Disney+'s Ms. Marvel and Warner Bros.' Batgirl movie - which was infamously scrapped as a tax write-off and will likely never see the light of day.
While speaking to Variety, El Arbi and Fallah were asked about the Spider-Man rumors, and while they didn't confirm whether they've actually had talks with the studios, it sounds like they'd be very happy to board the project - if given the opportunity.
"That’d be cool, if they allow us. If they ask us," said El Arbi. "We love Spider-Man and we love New York," added Fallah.

Following the franchise-topping $426 million success of “Bad Boys for Life” was going to be a tough task for any director. Fortunately, “Bad Boys: Ride or Die” has two — the Belgian directing duo Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, collectively billed as Adil & Bilall.
In this fourth installment, Adil & Bilall send Miami Pd detectives Mike Lowery (Will Smith) and Marcus Burnett (Martin Lawrence) on the run, framed for crimes they didn’t commit. And the production had plenty of hurdles to get over before it, too, could clear a path to success. First, there was Smith’s 2022 Oscars slap; then production was suspended by Hollywood’s historic dual strikes.
The film hit theaters on June 7 and became the first movie to jolt Hollywood’s summer box office, grossing $106 million at the global box office from a $100 million production budget (not accounting for the price of the splashy world tour to promote the film). To date,...
