Some great creepy visual stuff here. But, sadly only in certain scenes. I'm thinking of creating an edit with all the cool looking stuff and dumping the story... : )
I can see where the director has some true talent in creating a very disturbing mood, but sadly I just don't get the feeling that he really knows quite how to put everything together in a way that would truly be compelling to an audience.
Obviously, and this is no spoiler because you can tell this almost from the beginning, we have yet another story about the mind of someone disintegrating before our eyes. Normally, I skip the Horror movies where after all the great visuals and stuff, you find out, 'Oh, it was all just in their mind'... Especially if it is done with some kind of twist that is supposed to pull the rug out from under the audience. No thanks...
But, at least this one has a very creative premise using the stop motion approach, which I've always found very cool, and he does do some pretty creepy and entertaining things with them. You just have to sit through all the rest of the 'Narrative', such as it is, which is most definitely not done very well.
So yeah, if you just want to watch this for the interesting and creative visual moments and you like that kind of Lynchian flavour, sure. But, don't expect a very good story or narrative surrounding these good moments. I personally had to do a LOT of fast forwarding to get to the 'Good' parts...
