While I love the original movie very much, this adaption to German/European viewers has its special charms. The guy basically taking over the Steve Martin's role is a true prick with a schedule for everything unlike the original character. Instead of having to get home for Thanksgiving, both guys are coming home for Christmas. Also the runtime of this movie is much longer, so there is plenty of space for character development for both guys as well.
Overall, the movie felt much "rounder" as the original.

No pun intended - I have to admit that I have not watched Planes, Trains and Automobiles .. yet! I know it is supposed to be a classic! And I know it has amazing actors in it. I do believe someone saying that this is the german version of it - why shouldn't it be ... so since I haven't seen the other movie I am not able to compare them.
What I do know: you really have to suspend your disbelief here! The pair is as unlikable as you could imagine - pun I reckon somewhat intended! But they grow on each other and on you ... which should not make much sense, considering how different they are ... and how much pain they cause each other ... and yet by the end of it (the movie that is), you will leave with a good feeling ... well most will. Again, depending on how much suspension of disbelief you are able to conjure ... the two main actors here may not be in the same vain (acting wise) as Candy and Martin, but they are good ... or rather fitting when it comes to their roles. Most people who know them, know them for particular roles or behavior ... and it is fitting to the characters they portray in here ... so that may help ... also watching it around Christmas time ... being jolly and all ...
