Picture this: a young Chris Hemsworth, barely scraping by and dreaming of stardom, desperate to rescue his family from financial chaos. Fast forward, and he’s now the God of Thunder, but the journey was anything but smooth. In a chat with Variety, Hemsworth shared how those tough days shaped his career.
In 2004, Hemsworth landed his first gig on the Australian soap Home and Away, but it wasn’t all amazing. “A big reason I started acting was because I loved film and TV, but it was like we had no money,” he recalled. The high school dropout had bigger dreams, saying, “I initially wanted to pay off their house. That was my sort of thing.” Talk about pressure! He put himself under those expectations, making the journey more challenging.
The holiday season brought more than just cheer; it also brought doubt.

Idris Elba (Hijack) and Rebecca Ferguson (Silo) are circling roles in Academy Award winner Kathryn Bigelow’s next film for Netflix, sources have confirmed to Deadline.
Details as to the roles the pair are playing are under wraps, as are the film’s title and plot, though sources have told Deadline that it will be set at the White House as a national crisis unfolds. The project marks Bigelow’s first feature since the 2017 thriller Detroit, an awards contender produced and distributed by Annapurna Pictures, which starred John Boyega, Will Poulter, Kaitlyn Dever and more.
News of the film was first divulged by Netflix recently during its Upfront presentation in New York. Previously, Bigelow had been developing another Netflix film that never got off the ground — an adaptation of the novel Aurora from David Koepp.

Legacy U.S. shows such as The Office and Friends remain popular in Asia, but interest in American content is on the wane in the region, a new study shows.
Media Partners Asia (MPA)’s latest report show U.S. content maintained a lead among SVOD users, with 60% viewing it in Q1 of 2024, ahead of Korean titles (56%) and Japanese originals (48%). However, the figure for U.S. content was 70% two years ago in the same period, highlighting how local content, especially in Korea and Japan, are driving viewing.
Notably, in Korea, engagement with U.S. content was just 9%. In Japan, it was 11%. Conversely, engagement was up at 69% in English-speaking Australia and relatively strong in Southeast Asia (32%). Despite the low engagement, MPA Lead Analyst Dhivya T said that “even in highly local markets such as Korea, Japan and Indonesia, U.S. content drove 15-30% of SVOD customer acquisition.”

Study: U.S. Films, Series Remain Most Powerful Content Category for Global Streamers in Asia Pacific
Even in challenged times, no national entertainment industry can flex quite like Hollywood. According to new research from regional advisory group Media Partners Asia, U.S. films and series remain the most important content category for global streamers when it comes to customer acquisition and engagement across the Asia Pacific region — regardless of the way platforms continue to ramp up their local-language offerings in these territories.
In the first quarter of 2024, U.S. content was viewed by 60 percent of subscription video users in nine major markets — Australia, Japan, Korea, Singapore, Taiwan, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines and Thailand — outperforming Korean titles (at 56 percent) and Japanese content (48 percent), according to new research from regional analysts Media Partners Asia (MPA). The report’s authors noted, however, that U.S. content’s reach has begun to wane in recent years.

Chris Hemsworth is a busy man. Since temporarily hanging up his cape and hammer following Taika Waititi's Thor: Love And Thunder, the Aussie action hero has returned as Tyler Rake in explosive Netflix sequel Extraction 2, strutted his Dementus stuff in George Miller's epic Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, and found time to lend his voice to a certain Optimus Prime in Josh Cooley's upcoming robots-in-disguise origin story Transformers One. And clearly the Autobot experience has been an, er, transformative one (sorry!) for Hemsworth. As reported by Deadline, the actor is currently in talks to lead Paramount's as-yet-untitled Transformers and G.I. Joe crossover movie.
A team-up between two of Hasbro's biggest toy lines on the big screen comes as no surprise. During the post-credit scene at the end of last year's Transformers: Rise Of The Beasts – Spoiler Alert – ex-soldier and all-round hero Noah (Anthony Ramos...

It won’t be wrong to say that Thor’s role is Chris Hemsworth’s magnum opus. The Norse god was one of Marvel’s original team of Avengers, even forming a part of the team that took on Loki and the Chitauri in the Battle of New York.
He’s been one of the mainstays in the Industry. No wonder that he felt sad with giving his faithfuls an experience to forget in Thor: Love and Thunder. The 2022 flick failed to build on the success of Thor: Ragnarok, one of the Men in Black: International star’s biggest regret. But there is another role that gave him a lot of headache.

That Thor: Love and Thunder was a shadow of Taika Waititi’s Thor: Ragnarok is no secret.

You may know him as a certain superhero, but Chris Hemsworth has a wealth of film roles that go beyond the Marvel Cinematic Universe. After getting his big break on a TV show (the Australian soap opera Home and Away), Hemsworth pivoted to films in the early 2000s — and has only seen growing success since then. In fact, when Extraction dropped in the summer of 2020, its first four weeks saw the largest audience of any other Netflix original movie at the time.
Now, three years later, there’s even more Extraction action to stream. With Extraction 2 out now, there’s no better time to revisit some of the actor’s most memorable movie roles. From Rush and Spiderhead to Snow White and the Huntsman, these films will have you worshipping at the altar of the son of Odin.

Chris Hemsworth is sharing his thoughts and some regrets about his portrayal of Thor in Taika Waititi’s Love and Thunder.

Hemsworth also expressed frustration and dissatisfaction with the character that he played across eight films between 2011 and 2022.

Chris Hemsworth is still wincing at the reception of Marvel’s Thor: Love and Thunder.
The actor looked back on the goofily disappointing 2022 Marvel movie in a new profile in Vanity Fair.
“I got caught up in the improv and the wackiness, and I became a parody of myself,” Hemsworth said. “I didn’t stick the landing.”
The profile noted that Hemsworth feels like he owes fans another Thor movie due to the fourth film’s reception.
The 40-year-old is perhaps being a bit hard on himself (something he admits he’s prone to do), given the film’s creative direction was largely driven by its co-writer and director, Taika Waititi, who previously led the Thor franchise to what’s universally considered its best film, 2017’s Thor: Ragnarok. The first Extraction movie appeared in 2020. The movie was directed by Sam Hargraves and starred Chris Hemsworth; it was based on an earlier screenplay for a movie titled Ciudad, which was written by Ande Parks, Joe Russo, and Anthony Russo. The same team returned in 2023 when a sequel, Extraction 2, was released by Netflix. Both of these action movies were quite well-received and they have become fan favorites, which is why fans have been demanding a third movie, and we can now confirm that a third movie is indeed on the way, although things are still being figured out.

Chris Hemsworth’s action extravaganza Extraction 2 premiered on Netflix to much praise after showcasing such breathtaking sequences as the one-take prison riot scene. Audiences of the sequel were treated to a cameo appearance as Thor and Heimdall reunite with Idris Elba‘s mysterious “Man in a Suit” character sending Chris Hemsworth’s Rake on a seemingly impossible mission. While it’s easy to view Elba’s brief appearance as simply a catalyst to get the movie going, Elba has recently teased that he has “unfinished business” with Hemsworth and it may be resolved in a later movie.
Collider recently sat down with Elba, who is promoting his Sonic the Hedgehog spin-off, Knuckles, and Elba teases an expansion on his mystery Extraction character. The Luther star stated,

Netflix added nearly 30 million global paid subscribers in 2023, though it might have watered down its hit pool in the process.
According to a new study by British streaming-data company Digital i, Netflix had fewer than half the global hits in 2023 (10) than it had in 2022 (22). Digital i defines a “hit” as an original movie or a series that was watched by at least 30 percent of Netflix’s subscriber base in North America, EU, and Latam.
The long list of 2022 Netflix hits goes like this: “Wednesday” (61.8%), “Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story” (53.3%), “Stranger Things 4” (48.0%), “The Adam Project” (47.9%), “Knives Out 2” (45.9%), “The Gray Man” (42.4%), “The Watcher” (41.9%), “The Tinder Swindler” (38.0%), “Inventing Anna” (37.5%), “The Sandman” (35.7%), “Senior Year” (35.6%), “1899” (34.7%), “Bridgerton” Season 2 (34.5%), “Troll” (34.0%), “Enola Holmes 2” (33.7%), “Luckiest Girl Alive” (33.4%), “Harry & Meghan” (32.7%), “Hustle” (32.6%), “The Man from Toronto” (31.5%), “Purple Hearts” (31.3%), “Me Time” (31.1%), “Day Shift” (31.0%), and “Falling for Christmas” (30.8%).

Reminiscing the past once in a while is something everyone does. That’s what Hollywood actor Chris Hemsworth has been up to, and has been generous enough to let his fans have an insight into it.
Chris Hemsworth in a still from Extraction 2
The Extraction II star took a trip down memory lane, quite literally, when he visited his childhood home in the Northern Territory of Australia. Hemsworth’s carousel post on Instagram was a mosaic of heartwarming moments of the present, an echo of what had been, and what is now; thirty-five years apart.

It’s a familiar arc in movies: The person who doesn’t want the job is the best candidate for it. And so it was with Dan Lin, the producer and founder of Rideback, who this week starts his tenure as Netflix’s film head.
Lin was not looking for a new job, but then came an incoming call in early February from Netflix’s chief content officer, Bela Bajaria. According to two people familiar with the meeting that followed, Lin was blunt in his assessment of Netflix’s output: The movies were not great and the financials didn’t add up. Bajaria appreciated the honesty and, shortly after, she asked Lin if he would be open to leaving Rideback, the company the producer had spent the better part of two decades building.

Anya Taylor-Joy’s Furiosa is all set to be the next installment of the Mad Max franchise, with the Dune 2 alum all set to brave the desert again. While Taylor-Joy might be able to pull some audiences to the theatre, it seems that fans are more enamored by another actor who is in the film as well.

Chris Hemsworth will be essaying the role of Dementus, a powerful warlord of the Wasteland, who might have become somewhat of a fan favorite. Anya Taylor-Joy is gearing up to seek vengeance against Chris Hemsworth in the latest trailer for Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga.
Warner Bros. released the new footage Tuesday from George Miller’s dystopian action epic that hits theaters May 24. The fifth film in the Mad Max franchise, Furiosa is a prequel to 2015’s Oscar-winning hit Mad Max: Fury Road and stars Taylor-Joy as Imperator Furiosa, played in the previous movie by Charlize Theron.
The new film centers on Furiosa (Taylor-Joy), who is abducted in her younger years by Warlord Dementus (Hemsworth) and prepares herself to find her way back home to the Green Place of Many Mothers.

Streaming subscription growth in the Southeast Asia region slowed dramatically in 2023, but revenue from those subscriptions grew at a robust rate, a new study has found.
The report from data analytics company Ampd, that is part of consultancy and research firm Media Partners Asia, shows that the region – that includes Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore and Thailand – added only 1.3 million net new SVOD subscribers in 2023, compared with 11 million in 2022. But subscription revenues grew at 12.5% to $1.4 billion.
Netflix, Viu, Disney, WeTV, iQiyi and Prime Video had more than 75% of total premium VOD category viewership and SVOD subscriptions revenues across the region, the Southeast Asia Online Video Consumer Insights & Analytics report said. Netflix remains the leader with more than 45% viewership and subscription share in 2023.

Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon is still No. 1 on Netflix.
In its first full week on the streamer, the first part of Snyder’s science-fiction epic racked up 34M views, making it first among the English-language film list from December 25 to 31 — and the most-watched title on the streamer. Add that to the 29M views that the film managed in its debut weekend, and Rebel Moon currently stands at around 63M views for 10 days of availability.
It’ll need to nearly triple that viewership in the next 80 or so days in order to make it among Netflix’s most popular films of all time. Rebel Moon is off to a fine start, though it’s likely the streamer was hoping for a stronger full week of viewership, considering there’s another installment and a director’s cut coming down the pipeline. For reference, Extraction 2, which is currently No. 10 on Netflix’s most popular film list,...

From a hit franchise blockbuster to multiple awards season contenders, Netflix’s year in films was turned around completely and may help them garner some hardware as we march towards the Oscars in March.
While this list may not represent the most-watched films of the year, I believe these to be the best Netflix had to offer over the past 12 months.

In case you missed it, Triple Frontier was released on Netflix in March 2019. The big-budget action movie starred Ben Affleck, Oscar Isaac, Charlie Hunnam, Adria Arjona, and Pedro Pascal, who played former special forces operatives uniting to steal a drug lord’s fortune. Now, nearly five years later, it looks like a sequel might be on the way.
The movie did relatively well for Netflix despite not being a slam dunk by any stretch. Rumors of a sequel have circled for years, but this year, it looks like plans have been put in place for a sequel.
Our sources told us that development began on Triple Frontier 2 just before the strikes began in May 2023, and midway through the strikes, we got told that the plan was to continue with development following the end of the strikes, which thankfully came to an end in November.

In case you didn’t know, every Tuesday, Netflix updates its top 10 stats page with 40 new hourly figures of the top movies and shows of the past seven days.
Note: In this report of Netflix’s hours viewed from December 11th, 2023 to December 18th, 2023, we’ll use “Complete Viewings Equivalent,” or Cve, expressed in millions. That means we divide the hours viewed announced by Netflix by the runtime of films or series. It allows for better comparisons between films and series, but it’s not an audience metric. Audiences are still flocking to Netflix’s new apocalyptic thriller Leave the World Behind.
The film, directed by Sam Esmail, drummed up another 44.9M views in its second week on the streamer from December 11 to 17. It was once again top dog, easily notching another week as Netflix’s most-watched title.
Add that to the 41.7M views that the film managed in its debut week, and Netflix appears to have a hit on its hands. It’s still too early to tell whether Leave the World Behind will claim a spot on the most popular film list, though it is very possible if it keeps the momentum going through the holidays. The film has until March to surpass Extraction 2‘s 134M views in its 91-day premiere window. So, basically, viewership would have to fall off a cliff for it to get shut out from the most popular list.

’What We Watched: A Netflix Engagement Report’ offers comprehensive viewing data.
Marking a step towards greater data transparency, Netflix has published the first in a planned series of biannual reports revealing viewing numbers across more than 18,000 titles.
The data is the most comprehensive to be released by any streaming platform and compares for the first time the number of hours viewed on original and licensed content.
Viewership between January and June 2023 for the thriller series The Night Agent: Season 1 starring Gabriel Basso leads the way on 812.1m hours, according to What We Watched: A Netflix Engagement Report.

Netflix is expanding its viewership data transparency with the release of its first biannual report covering six months of streaming habits on the platform, revealing for the first time how licensed content like USA Network drama “Suits” performs alongside the streamer’s originals.
The new report, titled “What We Watched: A Netflix Engagement Report,” covers more than 18,000 titles and nearly 100 billion hours viewed between January-June 2023. It includes: 1) hours viewed for every title (both Netflix original and licensed TV shows and movies) watched for more than 50,000 hours during that period; 2) the premiere date for any Netflix original TV series or film; and 3) whether a title was available globally.
Each piece of that information is key here, because these findings aren’t as cut and dried as Netflix’s weekly Top 10 reports and “Most Popular” lists. For example, at the top of this report is “The Night Agent,” a series that debuted...

This post contains spoilers for "Extraction" and "Extraction 2."
Back when everyone was stuck inside during the global pandemic, we apparently did nothing but stream the heck out of Netflix's 2020 actioner "Extraction." Starring Chris Hemsworth as black market mercenary Tyler Rake, the film became the most-streamed original movie on the platform, making a sequel all but certain. And wouldn't you know, Netflix churned out a follow-up in no time, debuting "Extraction 2" in 2023 and doubling down on the unrelenting action sequences of the first movie. Whereas the first film delivered a 12-minute "one-take" sequence, the sequel featured a full 21 minutes of unbroken action as Rake battled his way out of a Georgian prison, taking down innumerable thugs and a few helicopters on his way.
Despite the fact that "Extraction 2" was an exhausting and dour return to the world of Tyler Rake, it clearly managed to rake in (sorry) the...

Over the years, Hollywood has made some very bad movies on a huge budget but Director Scott Waugh has topped all that. Expendables 4 (known as “Expend4bles“) has a $100 million budget but as you start watching the film you begin to realize that the movie has a predictable story, action that looks fake, CGI that is bad and actors who are just going through the motions of making a film and collecting a paycheck. So, then the question anyone would ask is how expensive can a movie like this be? There is a huge mismatch as a $100 million budget movie should be way better in terms of quality. Expend4bles is the kind of movie that leaves a bad taste in your mouth and you hope against hope that a 5th film never gets made.

The term “guilty pleasure” should most definitely be synonymous with any content coming out of the Lifetime Network. It would not be wrong to categorize “Lifetime movies” as a particular movie genre because these movies are one of a kind. Even though they have stories that resemble the world we live in, the world of Lifetime movies is something else. Their latest, Hiding From My Husband, is no different. Even though it feels like the makers of the movie have actually put some effort into developing a proper, intriguing story at first, the movie eventually embraces its Lifetime persona and turns into something utterly ludicrous. I’m certain we all felt more guilt than pleasure while watching this one, but here is an explanation for the events unfolding in Hiding From My Husband.

Award season will bring such titles as The Killer and Maestro, and now Netflix is promoting a bevy of other titles in various genres for the rest of the year.
