The film, sold by Memento Films International, makes its world premiere at Venice in competition. "Marguerite" is Giannoli's sixth film, following "À l'origine" and "Superstar," the latter of which also bowed at Venice in 2012. Set in the Golden Twenties, "Marguerite" stars Catherine Frot as the titular Marguerite Dumont. The character is loosely based on the socialite Florence Foster Jenkins, who aspired to greatness as an opera singer despite having a terrible voice.
