Dunst will play a woman caught on a long flight with her husband (German star Daniel Brühl) when the onboard entertainment system fails, forcing the passengers to deal with their own boredom, with darkly comedic results.

“I’m pretty sure that if we took away entertainment from our society, the divorce rate would go up very drastically,” said Östlund, “that’s part of what we’re going to investigate.”

Horror Director Christopher Smith is getting ready to unleash arachnophobia-inducing horror-comedy madness in Spider Island. The project was announced today by Protagonist Pictures’ CEO Dave Bishop.

Spider Island “follows a group of social media influencers going to the launch party of a new luxury resort on a beautiful island. With deadly spiders.”

The film is written by Christopher Jolley (The Price We Pay) and David Quantick. Vertigo Films will produce the film, and Protagonist Pictures is handling worldwide rights, launching sales ahead of the upcoming American Film Market.

While the specifics behind these lethal spiders remain under wraps, we at least know that they’ll be handled via VFX.

Marc Webb has closed a deal to direct Skydance’s long-in-development Bermuda Triangle action-adventure titled “Bermuda,” according to an individual with knowledge of the project.

The logline is being kept under wraps.

Although Skydance has been developing “Bermuda” for a while, the current version is still in its initial stages, and no writer is currently attached to it until the WGA strike ends. Webb will consult on the script, but it is not expected to take up co-writing duties.

David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, Don Granger will produce for Skydance. Aimee Rivera will oversee the project for Skydance.

Coming off the hugely successful “Top Gun: Maverick” and “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One,” Skydance’s live-action film slate includes “Heart of Stone,” “Spy Kids: Armageddon” and “The Old Guard 2” for Netflix as well as “The Family Plan,” “The Gorge,” and “Mayday” for Apple TV+ and “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two.

In "Triangle," a young mother named Jess (Melissa George) is struggling to adjust to raising her autistic son, Tommy (Joshua McIver), on her own. She has a planned day trip on a friend's boat, but strange little coincidences occurring throughout the day start to feel like devastating inevitabilities. As time continues to loop and realities begin to fold in on each other, making sense of the film can feel overwhelming if you're not used to the timey-wimey weirdness of a film like "Triangle."

The retired Rms Queen Mary docked in Long Beach, California is considered one of the most haunted locations in the world — which only somewhat shines through in Gary Shore’s Haunting of the Queen Mary. Any wishes to relive Dark Castle Entertainment levels of production design in Ghost Ship won’t be fulfilled, but that said, Haunting of the Queen Mary is more successful than its brushed-under-the-rug release undersells. Shore and co-writer Tom Vaughan channel the Queen Mary’s grave history for a supernatural infestation that spans decades, complete with atmospheric haunts akin to what’s accomplished in remakes of Thir13en Ghosts or House on Haunted Hill. Proper spookiness prevails, even though the over two-hour length gunks up the film’s gears with subplots that slow momentum.

Alice Eve stars as Anne Calder, who pitches Queen Mary’s Captain Bittner (Dorian Lough) on a virtual 3D tour experience to resurrect the ship’s reputation.

Cinephobia Releasing will be giving the sci-fi thriller Brightwood – a film that is said to be a “chilling mind-bender” that’s “in the twisted vein of Timecrimes and Coherence” – a VOD and DVD release on August 22nd. When Hollywood’s return-to-work agreement expires on April 1, will this be the end of Covid-19 guidelines that have been in place for the past three years?

Sources in the industry believe so and have speculated for weeks that, at the very least, major changes might be coming next month, when the current version of the agreement expires. The deal was last extended in January, loosening protocols when Covid-19 hospital admissions are low.

The Directors Guild of America, SAG-AFTRA, IATSE and the Teamsters and Basic Crafts unions have negotiated the Covid-19 protocols with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP), which represents the studios and streamers in talks with unions, since 2020. AMPTP member companies have been pushing for some time to end the agreement, while unions have advocated to keep some degree of protection for members. (AMPTP declined to comment.)

Oscar nominated-pic “Triangle of Sadness” gives viewers a glimpse into the lives of the super-rich but one of the companies behind the film appears to be less fortunate when it comes to money matters.

Triangle of Sadness Limited, an Spv set up in the U.K. by the film’s producers Philippe Bober and Mike Goodridge to manage the U.K. financing of the film, is set to be liquidated following insolvency proceedings earlier this month.

According to documents filed at U.K. business registrar Companies House, a petition to shut down the company was filed with the London High Court by Hmrc, the British version of the Inland Revenue.

A source said that Hmrc took action because the company’s external accountancy firm, Shipleys, had fallen behind on filing its Vat returns. Triangle of Sadness Limited is also 18 months late in filing separate Companies House accounts.

Bravo’s Vanderpump Rules has released a midseason teaser trailer amidst a love triangle fans are calling “Scandoval,” not to mention the recent announcement that Kristen Doute, who was fired by the series in 2020 over a racist prank against former costar Faith Stowers, will be coming back in Season 10.

“You don’t know what’s going on between us,” cast member Tom Sandoval says to someone during the teaser, which is likely true enough.

The new season of the series had just started airing less than a month ago when it was reported that cast member Sandoval was cheating on his long-time girlfriend Ariana Madix with recently single costar Raquel Leviss. The romantic entanglement, which resulted in Sandoval and Madix’s split, has heated up on social media and the Bravo boards, creating “Scandoval.”

A24 likes to surround its victories with the sounds of silence, as they made numbingly clear when last I had a sit-down with them (they resist sit-downs: more below).

But there were, in fact, some questions...

So who didn’t make the cut? There was a bit of an uproar online on Sunday over the late stars who didn’t end up featured in the 2023 Oscars “In Memoriam” segment.

While this year’s tribute to those stars we’ve lost was moving and emotional — featuring a tearful introduction from John Travolta and a powerful performance of “Calling All Angels” by Lennt Kravitz — glaring omission of some big-name stars shook up some viewers at home.

Anne Heche — who died following a fiery car crash in August at the age of 53 — was not a part of the segment, despite her many film roles.

Also absent from the televised tribute was longtime film veteran Tom Sizemore — who died on Mar. 3, at age 61, two weeks after suffering a brain aneurysm that left him hospitalized.

Stars of the big screen attended the ceremony in Los Angeles to see whether Everything Everywhere All at Once, The Fabelmans or German film All Quiet on the Western Front would win Best Picture.

Other films in contention included The Banshees of Inisherin, Elvis, Tár, Top Gun: Maverick, Avatar: The Way of Water, Triangle of Sadness and Women Talking.

Meanwhile, actors in the running were Brendan Fraser for The Whale, Colin Farrell for The Banshees of Inisherin, Michelle Yeoh for Everything Everywhere All at Once and Angela Bassett for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

‘Everything Everywhere All At Once’ wins seven awards including best picture

Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert’s multiverse drama Everything Everywhere All At Once topped the winners at the 95th Academy Awards with seven prizes.

The film, about a Chinese immigrant laundry operator who realises she can save existence by exploring other universes, took best picture, best director, original screenplay and film editing.

It also won three of the four acting awards: best actress for Michelle Yeoh, best supporting actor for Ke Huy Quan, and best supporting actress for Jamie Lee Curtis.

Behold the Oscar nominees who will be competing tonight to take home little gold statuettes. Anne Thompson has revealed her final predictions for who will win, but it’s worth remembering how it is we got here.

The nominations for the 95th Academy Awards were officially announced Tuesday, January 24 via livestream by Oscar winner Riz Ahmed and Allison Williams.

“Everything Everywhere All at Once” led the pack with 11 nominations, including for Best Picture, as well as Director for Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, and acting nominees for Stephanie Hsu, Jamie Lee Curtis, Ke Huy Quan, and Michelle Yeoh.

In the month and a half since the nominees were unveiled, “Everything Everywhere” has become the unquestioned frontrunner for Best Picture, with also a lock on two of the acting prizes – Yeoh for Best Actress and Quan for Supporting Actor, with both Curtis and Hsu being a possibility in the Supporting Actress race.

Another FrightFest, another Chris Smith movie! Our destinies seem intertwined. Why has FrightFest always been a key component to your release strategy?

I feel very fortunate to have been brought into the FrightFest family. I was very lucky that my first film, Creep, was included and then I got very lucky with the dates of release of my subsequent films. Severance was shown the night before the festival started in 2006 and then of course there was the spectacular Premier for Triangle at the Empire Leicester Square. FrightFest has also shown Black Death and Detour. They didn’t bother with Get Santa but that’s their loss. FrightFest is the best audience for any director.
