Holiday movies have been with us for some time, but we now live in an era of the holiday streaming movie. This year, Hulu managed to get Ben Stiller for their Christmas effort "Nutcrackers," while Max recruited Kiernan Shipka, who played Sabrina Spellman in two seasons of Netflix's "Chilling Adventures of Sabrina," for the Thanksgiving-themed rom com "Sweethearts."
Since "Sabrina" was canceled due to the global pandemic, Shipka has appeared in "Back to the Future"-like slasher comedy "Totally Killer," and Roku's TV remake of "Swimming with Sharks." In 2024, she had small parts in the box office record-breaking "Twisters," and Oz Perkins' hit horror effort "Longlegs." But alongside Nico Hiraga, she's the star of "Sweethearts," which comes from co-writer and first time director Jordan Weiss.

"You can't like someone right now because you could kill them." Peacock has unveiled the full official trailer for a sex comedy series called Laid, created by Nahnatchka Khan and Sally Bradford McKenna. The funny teaser debuted just last month. It's based on the Australian series of the same name (from 2011) and is streaming on Peacock in the US this December. A woman finds out her former lovers are dying in unusual ways and must go through her sex timeline to confront her complicated past in order to move forward. That sounds awkward & amusing! "The premise of Laid — a woman discovers all of her exes are dying in mysterious ways — [was] exactly what we were looking for: a F–ed-up rom-com." Laid stars Stephanie Hsu as Ruby and Zosia Mamet as her best friend Aj. The main cast also includes Michael Angarano and Tommy Martinez, and exciting guest stars like Finneas O'Connell,...

In the last thirteen months, we’ve seen two different time travel slashers, Totally Killer and Time Cut, get streaming service releases. Now, Deadline reports that Alliance Media Partners is representing the world sales rights for a time travel supernatural thriller called You Don’t Belong Here at the American Film Market, which is currently going on in Las Vegas. Totally Killer starred Kiernan Shipka from the Netflix series Chilling Adventures of Sabrina and Time Cut starred Madison Bailey from the Netflix series Outer Banks and Antonia Gentry from the Netflix series Ginny & Georgia, so it seems fitting that the lead role in You Don’t Belong Here went to another Netflix star – Nikki Roumel, who co-stars with Gentry on Ginny & Georgia.

If the plot of Time Cut sounds a bit familiar, it should, Totally Killer covered much of the same ground not that long ago. But despite being released second, Time Cut was actually filmed a year before Totally Killer was announced. Maybe it should have used its time machine to get to our screens first.
The film begins in 2003 in Sweetly, Minnesota, where a killer known as The Sweetly Slasher has been targeting the local teens. Summer’s best friend Emmy was one of the victims, and she’s forced herself to come to the party honouring her and the other victims.
Unfortunately, the party gets some uninvited guests in the form of the police and The Sweetly Slasher himself. In the confusion, Summer ends up becoming a victim herself.

In a blend of nostalgic horror and time-twisting thrills, Time Cut—featuring Outer Banks star Madelaine Petsch and Cobra Kai’s Griffin Gluck—captures audiences with its unique spin on the classic slasher genre. Directed by Matt Smukler, this film echoes the gripping suspense of time travel, as it merges horror with a mind-bending narrative. Rooted in the classic ‘80s horror tradition yet reimagined with fresh, inventive elements, Time Cut has found a special place in this year’s releases. If you, like me, were either intrigued or disappointed with Time Cut on Netflix, you can seek out the following movies that feel like they belong with the Netflix original.

List of targets? Check. Bullets? Check. Diapers? Check? You heard me. Lionsgate is loading up on formula and onesies for the action comedy spec Three Hitmen and a Baby. The newly-announced project comes from Dave Matalon (Totally Killer) and Matt Altman (Red Widow). While the title is obviously a play on the 1987 comedy Three Men and Baby, plot details remain elusive. However, the talent behind the film is not. Kelly McCormack and David Leitch will produce through their 87North studio, which bodes well for this curious production.
In Three Men and a Baby, three bachelors have their worlds rocked when a mysterious baby arrives on their doorstep. With almost no experience, the trio must put their one-night-stand lifestyle on hold to ensure the child’s safety, learning valuable lessons about parenthood and themselves. The laugh-out-loud comedy got a sequel in 1990 called Three Men and a Little Lady, which finds the...

Exclusive: Lionsgate has snapped up rights to Three Hitmen and a Baby, an action comedy spec from Dave Matalon (Totally Killer) and Matt Altman (Red Widow), Deadline can exclusively reveal.
Pic’s logline is being kept under wraps, though its title clearly riffs on the classic 1987 comedy Three Men and a Baby, starring Tom Selleck, Steve Guttenberg, and Ted Danson, about three bachelors whose lives change forever when a baby suddenly appears on their doorstep. Kelly McCormick and David Leitch will produce through their company 87North, for whom Max Jacoby is overseeing the project. Meredith Wieck and Jon Humphrey are overseeing for Lionsgate.
Screenwriter Matalon most recently co-wrote the slasher comedy Totally Killer! for Blumhouse and Amazon, which headlined Prime Video’s Halloween season last year. As we first reported, his sci-fi action script Level Up, also written with Altman, is in development with The Hideaway and Vandal Entertainment.

To mark the spookiest day of the year, Screen Gems (via Bloody Disgusting) has released the first red band teaser trailer for a new horror movie titled Heart Eyes, and it promises to deliver a bloody Valentine's Day massacre.
Directed by Josh Ruben, the premise focuses on a masked killer known as Heart Eyes who only targets couples.
“My love of horror is rivaled only by my love of romantic comedies," said Ruben in a recent interview. "I’m excited as hell to mount my most challenging genre bender to date: a brutal slasher in a nostalgic rom-com universe.”
The teaser doesn't really show us much... until the last few shots, which spotlight a pretty inventive and gruesome kill. We see Heart Eyes plunge a carjack into an unfortunate victim's mouth, then grab his girlfriend and impale her head on the other end of it.

A sense of déjà vu is inevitable when watching Hanna MacPherson’s Time Cut. Just like Totally Killer, a movie that came out only a year ago, this new slasher flings a final girl to the distant past so that she can solve a loved one’s murder. Yes, Time Cut was technically announced first, but the movie has the misfortune of being released later rather than sooner. And today, in an age where nostalgia bait runs rampant, the plot already feels outdated.
While the ‘80s and ‘90s tend to be the go-to destinations in these kinds of movies, Time Cut takes us back to the less visited early-aughts. 2003, to be exact. Madison Bailey’s character Lucy realizes her new surroundings like any teen time traveler might nowadays: by song. In this needle dropper set to Hilary Duff’s “So Yesterday,” the movie rolls out a parade of the decade’s greatest fashion don’ts.

For Millennials, Time Cut opens with perhaps the scariest cinematic moment of the year. For here is a slasher dealing in nostalgia for a bygone era, a time so long ago that you can now pointedly revive its fashion and music and cultural references as a wink-nudge counterpoint to the present day. That particular era? 2003. Time really does come for us all.
While the text card “April 13 2003” is likely to invoke more terror than anything else in the film, Time Cut remains a cheap and just-about-cheerful-enough 91-minute romp, with one or two interesting ideas among all the throwback references. This is the latest in the burgeoning ‘slash-up’ genre, taking the masked-killer horror trope and smashing it into another subgenre – and it comes with a script co-penned by one of the pioneers of the movement, Michael Kennedy, who co-wrote body-swap slasher Freaky, and the festive It’s A Wonderful Knife. Plot: A high school student accidentally travels back to 2003 and decides to stop the serial killer who murdered her sister.
Review: Time travel and slashers seem to go together like peanut butter and jelly as this is now the second major streaming release in the last year to feature this Back to the Future meets Scream aesthetic. As such, I’m sure there are some that would immediately roll their eyes at the idea of approaching the subject matter again. But I’m not one of those people. The streamer’s gimmicky and over-familiar Halloween offering sees a teen going back to 2003 to save her sister from a masked killer
The triumphant return of the slasher movie, a subgenre that had been mostly dead and buried for far too long, arrived with key caveats. Those that were now being made were either part of a legacy franchise (updates to Scream or Halloween or next year’s I Know What You Did Last Summer) or were hinged on a goofy gimmick. We had time loops (the Happy Death Day series), time travel (Totally Killer), timeline jumping (the excellent Fear Street trilogy), alternate realities (It’s a Wonderful Knife) or body swapping (the underrated Freaky), brash genre-bending variations that all seemed a little reticent to rely solely on the base pleasures of the formula.

Last year, Amazon and Blumhouse released a fantastic slasher horror/comedy from Nahnatchka Khan. Totally Killer told the story of a teenager who goes back in time to save her mom. It was a terrific blend of great kills, a fantastic script, and a ton of heart. If you were a fan of that, no film this year will be as offensive as Time Cut. Director Hannah Macpherson tells the same story, but with a PG-13 rating, worse kills, a weaker script, lamer direction, and a less talented cast, this throwback thriller is another terrible addition to Netflix’s uninspired catalog.

"Dating is already impossible and now people are dying..." Peacock has revealed the first look teaser trailer for a fun new sex comedy series called Laid, created by Nahnatchka Khan and Sally Bradford McKenna. Yes it's based on the Australian series of the same name (from 2011) and it will be streaming on Peacock in the US in December later this year. A weird time to launch this? A woman finds out her former lovers are dying in unusual ways and must go back through her sex timeline to confront her complicated past in order to move forward. Well, that sounds awkward! "The premise of Laid — a woman discovers all of her exes are dying in mysterious ways — seemed exactly what we were looking for: a F–ed-up rom-com." Laid stars Stephanie Hsu as Ruby and Zosia Mamet as her best friend Aj. The main cast also includes Michael Angarano and Tommy Martinez,...

Well, at least Stephanie Hsu wasn’t ghosted…but all of her exes are landing six feet under.
The Oscar-nominated “Everything Everywhere All at Once” actress leads twisted Peacock rom-com series “Laid” about a woman who knows her exes, ranging from “the guys, the girls, the one-night stands, the man she only remembers as ‘Green Day Shirt,’ and John Early” per the logline, are all about to die. And despite ending things, she does feel compelled to warn them…
The official synopsis reads: “Ruby (Hsu) finds out her former lovers are dying in unusual ways and must go back through her sex timeline to confront her past in order to move forward, all with help from her best friend Aj (Zosia Mamet).”
“Joy Ride” star Hsu also executive produces “Laid.” Michael Angarano and Tommy Martinez also star as series regulars, with Finneas O’Connell, Andre Hyland, Olivia Holt, David Denman, Chloe Fineman,...

Plot: When a beloved varsity quarterback disappears during the “Satanic Panic” of the late 1980s, a struggling high school heavy metal band of outcasts realize they can capitalize on the town’s sudden interest in the occult by building a reputation as a Satanic metal band, until a bizarre series of murders, kidnappings, and reported “supernatural activity” triggers a leather-studded witch hunt that leads directly back to them.
Review: There have been many 1980s-set retro horror movies in recent years, ranging from My Best Friend’s Exorcism to Totally Killer and more. The 80s were a bastion of paranoia about the impact of Dungeons & Dragons and heavy metal, a thread used in Netflix’s Stranger Things. The new series Hysteria! goes back to the heart of the Satanic Panic to see how one small town in Michigan deals with its own devilish challenges. Led by genre legend Bruce Campbell along with Julie Bowen,...

What’s an easy way to spice up the standard slasher formula? That’s easy: time travel. Christopher Landon‘s two “Happy Death Day” movies gave the slasher the “Groundhog Day” treatment to much fanfare back in the mid-late 2010s. Bast year’s “Totally Killer” went all-in on the premise, complete with a time machine, parents as teens, and a general “Back To The Future” vernacular.

Horror fans, we're happy to report that the upcoming Spyglass horror rom-com Heart Eyes finally has a theatrical release date. Unfortunately, the movie won't be coming out this year, which was expected since production just recently wrapped in New Zealand in July. The film is currently in post-production. However, Sony will be releasing this movie in theaters early next year. Feb. 7, 2025, to be exact. Don't forget to save the date!
Heart Eyes is described as a Valentine's Day slasher. Josh Ruben directed the film from a screenplay co-written by Phillip Murphy (Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard), Christopher Landon, and Michael Kennedy.
Taking place in Seattle, Washington, Heart Eyes follows a pair of co-workers working overtime at their job during Valentine's Day. But things take a turn for the worse when an infamous couple-hunting murderer known as the "Heart Eyes Killer" shows up at their job and mistakes them for a couple.

February 14th is a Friday in 2025, so that would seem to be the perfect choice of release date for a horror romantic comedy that’s set on Valentine’s Day, which is what the movie Heart Eyes is. But the February 14th release date has already been taken by Disney/Marvel’s Captain America: Brave New World and Paramount’s Smurfs animated movie… so Sony Pictures has chosen to release Heart Eyes on February 7th. Its competition on that date is the Universal action movie With Love, starring Ke Huy Quan.
Coming our way from Josh Ruben, the director of Werewolves Within and Scare Me, Heart Eyes was scripted by Happy Death Day director Christopher Landon, Landon’s Freaky collaborator Michael Kennedy (who also wrote It’s a Wonderful Knife), and Phillip Murphy (The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard). The film has the following synopsis: When the Heart Eyes Killer strikes Seattle, a...

If you're a horror fan, you're familiar with Blumhouse Productions (cited as Blumhouse from here out). Even if you're not a horror fan, you've probably watched a Blumhouse film without knowing it ("Whiplash?" "Jem and the Holograms?" "Tooth Fairy?"). Jason Blum's nightmare factory is synonymous with today's mainstream horror pillars, securing the rights to everything from "Halloween" to "The Exorcist" and beyond. Indeed, it's impossible to banter about our contemporary horror era without acknowledging how prevalent and prodigious Blumhouse has become — so why does it feel like it's ghosting us this year?
Blumhouse decimated last year's horror movie market. In 2023, Blum's juggernaut scared up nearly $800 million worldwide in box office totals. Emma Tammi's video game adaptation "Five Nights at Freddy's" boasted a high score of $297 million on a $20 million budget — one of nine films released by Blumhouse. Now, there's no metric for reporting for streaming titles like...

Bad Bunny needs a pair of stylish golf shoes and a visor for his latest acting gig! According to The Hollywood Reporter, the musician and actor will star alongside Adam Sandler in Happy Gilmore 2. Benito Martínez Ocasio, aka Bad Bunny, joins Julie Bowen and Christopher McDonald, who reprise their roles as Virginia Venit and Shooter McGavin, respectively. NFL star (and Taylor Swift’s arm candy) Travis Kelce and Benny Safdie appear in the comedic sequel, with Nick Swarsdon playing a caddy.
Kyle Newacheck directs Happy Gilmore 2 from a script by Sandler and his trusty collaborator Tim Herlihy. Streaming services have been struggling of late. What was initially a new medium of entertainment, one that a slew of production houses invested in heavily, has proven to be a short-term money-making gimmick rather than something that production houses would like to sustain long term.
Not only has it hurt home media sales, it has practically eradicated an entire line of revenue for films, making quite a few studios wonder if it is worth working with streaming at all.

Netflix’s Time Cut, a film that is described as Back to the Future meets Scream, is a telling sign of how content on streaming is dwindling, given that Amazon Prime has already done the concept. Fans are not impressed by Netflix’s attempt at bringing a concept that’s already been done by a rival service, calling out the creative bankruptcy of the service.

It's been15 years since Modern Family premiered, so a good time to focus on how old the cast of this hit ABC comedy was then and now!
Some may have forgotten that the first episode of Modern Family had a twist at the end. It appeared to be a documentary focusing on three different families in various levels of marriage. The final scene revealed they were one large extended family of the Pritchetts.
For 11 seasons and 250 episodes, viewers loved to see the family grow amid various escapades and misadventures, but the family bond was always there. It was a big ratings hit and won five Emmys for Outstanding Comedy series to boot.
The show signed off in 2020, but the cast has reassembled for some commercials, so here's a look at how old they are now!

Who wants to travel back to a time when the most significant threat to the nation was a red-scaled demon with a bifurcated tail and great taste in music? That’s right, folks! Satanic panic is back, thanks to Peacock‘s Hysteria! teaser trailer! Hide your kids! Say your prayers! Prepare for a moral panic that is more appealing than anything you see on today’s news!
Here’s the official (and lengthy) synopsis for Hysteria!:

That fear haunts every generation. Children of the Atomic Age went on to terrifying their families by turning on, tuning in and dropping out in the sixties. Those same “free spirits” went on to vote for Reagan and called for censorship of the “obscene” and “satanic” heavy metal bands their own kids worshiped. The Fangoria Chainsaw Awards are back this year and bigger than ever.
Once again airing on AMC’s Shudder, the 2024 Fangoria Chainsaw Awards has shifted the annual awards show’s shift to October; as such, the window of this year’s eligible horrors is an expanded one, encompassing all of 2023 and the first half of 2024. They even have a new category this year: Best Video Game.
Here’s where you come in; Fangoria needs your vote to decide on the winners! We have it on good authority that some of the categories are extremely competitive right now. And voting happens to be officially open for the awards show.

The only award season that matters is here! Joking (kind of), but seriously, Fangoria just released the complete list of nominees for the 2024 Fangoria Chainsaw Awards. Considering how often horror gets shut out of the mainstream award shows, it's nice to have at least one thing we can rely on year after year.
Last year's Chainsaw Awards included big wins for movies like The Black Phone, Terrifier 2, and Prey. This time, the categories are again stacked, with films like Abigail, Evil Dead Rise, The First Omen, Talk To Me, Late Night with the Devil, and many more going head to head.
Specific performances are also being highlighted, like Tobin Bell in Saw X and Kathryn Newton for both Lisa Frankenstein and Abigail. It's been a fantastic few years for horror, and it'll be exciting to see which movies pull ahead this time around.
In addition to popular categories such as Best Wide Release,...

We previously reported that New Line Cinema is developing a horror-based spinoff of the Rebel Wilson-led rom-com Isn't It Romantic titled Isn't It Scary. And now Spyglass appears to be treading into the genre-bending territory with the upcoming original horror romantic comedy Heart Eyes.
According to an exclusive from Deadline, Heart Eyes will star Cruel Summer vet Olivia Holt and Scream alum Mason Gooding. The film revolves around a murderer nicknamed the "Heart Eyes Killer" who targets couples. When two co-workers get roped into working overtime on Valentine's Day, the killer mistakes them for a couple, and they spend the evening running for their lives.
Heart Eyes is currently filming in New Zealand. Josh Ruben will direct the film, co-written by Phillip Murphy (The Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard) and Freaky scribes Christopher Landon and Michael Kennedy. Landon was previously attached to direct the seventh Scream movie, also in the works at Spyglass.

Spyglass has been building their horror portfolio over the last couple years, reviving the Scream franchise with Scream (2022) and Scream VI, as well as bringing the world Eli Roth’s long-awaited Grindhouse spin-off Thanksgiving (which is getting a sequel). Now Deadline reports that the Spyglass project Heart Eyes, described as a horror romantic comedy, has started filming in New Zealand, with Olivia Holt of Totally Killer and Mason Gooding from Spyglass’s two Scream movies leading the cast. We don’t know whether or not Gooding is going to show up in Scream 7, but he just can’t seem to avoid the slashers.
