Denzel Washington is on his way to making Oscar history for his performance as a former slave who plots to be the emperor of Rome in Paramount Pictures’ “Gladiator II,” the latest from director Ridley Scott. Right now, he has two Academy Awards to his name for “Glory” (1989) in Best Supporting Actor and “Training Day” (2001) in Best Actor. If he were to prevail for “Gladiator II” in early 2025, he would join an exclusive list of seven other people to win at least three times in the acting categories.
Here are the actors who have achieved this important Oscars milestone:
Katharine Hepburn (4)
Won Best Actress for “Morning Glory” (1933), “Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner” (1967), “The Lion in Winter” (1968), and “On Golden Pond” (1981)

Legendary rock band Oasis announced that after a 15-year feud between the two brothers, they have settled their differences and plan to embark on a 2025 North American tour.
Seven stadium dates in North America are set for next summer, with shows in Toronto, New Jersey, Chicago, Mexico City and Los Angeles, and various sources have reported that the band is also expected to tour outside of the continent later in the year. Celebrated rock group Cage the Elephant will open for the Britpop duo.
Brothers Noel and Liam Gallagher formed Oasis in 1991, and the band went on to produce some of the most prominent songs of the 90s. To this day, their hit ‘Wonderwall’ is the quintessential song men use to demonstrate their acoustic guitar skills, usually at parties or on dates.

Mikey Madison is the current Best Actress Oscar frontrunner for her heartbreaking performance in the title role of Sean Baker‘s “Anora.” Her likeliest competitors are two past Oscar winners — Nicole Kidman, 57, for “Babygirl” and Angelina Jolie, 49, for “Maria” — plus six-time nominee Amy Adams, 50, for “Nightbitch” and Karla Sofia Gascon, 52, for “Emilia Pérez.”
At age 25, Madison has one advantage over her main rivals for the award: her youth. Of the 97 winners of this race, almost one-third (32) were in their 20s.
Among those ingenues to take to the stage to collect this coveted prize was Emma Stone, who was 28 when she won for “La La Land” in 2017. Stone was 35 when she picked up a bookend Oscar earlier this year for “Poor Things,” which made her the 35th Best Actress winner in her thirties.

UK band Oasis have cemented their return to stage with a number one album at the top of this week’s British music charts, a week after tickets for their reunion gigs went on sale.
The group’s debut album Definitely Maybe was first released 30 years ago, and a 30th anniversary edition, including outtakes and unreleased demos, has claimed the UK’s number one album spot. In addition, the top ten includes two further albums by the band, their greatest hits compilation at number three and their 1995 album (What’s the Story) Morning Glory reaching number four.
The only name to disturb the band’s sweep of the top positions is Sabrina Carpenter, whose album Short ‘n’ Sweet sits at number two. She also occupies the top three positions in the country’s singles chart.

No classic rock band from the 1990s has incurred more comparisons to The Beatles than Oasis. While Oasis, gave us great songs like “Wonderwall” and “Don’t Look Back in Anger,” Liam and Noel Gallagher aren’t on the same level as Lennon-McCartney. Here’s a brief overview of why.
The Beatles knew how to do many more things than Oasis
Most bands are lucky to master one genre. What made The Beatles different from other bands is that they managed to make great songs in several different genres. On The White Album alone, they made forays into blues, pop, rock ‘n’ roll, avant-garde music, vaudeville, folk, children’s music, and baroque music. Regardless of your taste, there’s a good chance there is a Beatles song for you just because of the breadth of their catalog.
Oasis, on the other hand, is much less musically diverse. They gave us...

Many classic rock fans consider (What’s the Story) Morning Glory? to be Oasis’ masterwork. One Oasis member said that the band wanted to rewrite the album desperately. While that sounds a little extreme, his attitude makes sense in the context of the band’s career.
Oasis’ ‘(What’s the Story) Morning Glory?’ was a massive cash cow
Oasis made two classic records — Definitely Maybe and (What’s the Story) Morning Glory? — before mentioning a bunch of repetitive records that nobody seems to like all that much. Noel Gallagher left Oasis to helm a band called Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds. During a 2019 interview with The Fader, he shed light on the reason why he made that decision. “Now I’m in a place where I’m thinking: why the f*** was I trying to rewrite (What’s the Story) Morning Glory? for the best part of 15 years?

The roll out of Oasis’ much-hyped reunion tour has been a real nightmare for fans. Ticket prices landed somewhere between the cost of Fabergé eggs and black market organs, thanks to Ticketmaster’s “Dynamic Pricing.” Liam Gallagher responded to the controversy in the most Liam Gallagher way possible, by instructing his fans to “Shutup.” I guess we should just be happy that he didn’t threaten to stab anybody in the eye.
But this is far from the only controversy that the band has weathered. We all know about the time Noel Gallagher claimed that Oasis was “bigger” than The Beatles, but what about the time they screwed over one of The Rutles?
In 1994, Oasis released the song “Whatever,” a “standalone Christmas single” that came out between their debut album Definitely Maybe and the hit follow-up (What's the Story) Morning Glory? The song was a success, debuting at number three on the U.

Classic rock culture can get a little repetitive. For example, a member of Oasis said “Wonderwall” inspires the same reaction as John Lennon’s “Imagine.” He has a point — and that’s not necessarily a good thing for Oasis.
Oasis’ Liam Gallagher said ‘Wonderwall’ is as divisive as John Lennon’s ‘Imagine’
During a 2020 interview with Rolling Stone, Oasis’ Liam Gallagher reacted to the continuing popularity of “Wonderwall.” “I don’t know anything about Spotify and all that,” he says. “But all I can say is people love it. And people hate it. I’m not comparing it to ‘Imagine,’ but a lot of people say, ”Imagine’ — f*** that,’ but some people say it’s one of the best songs around.”
“Wonderwall” and “Imagine” aren’t that different on a musical level. Both are middle-of-the-road songs that straddle the line between soft rock and pop. While some listeners find their emotionality moving,...

Few classic rock songs from the 1990s had an impact comparable to Oasis’ “Wonderwall.” Although the tune has been covered by numerous artists from numerous genres, only one of those artists managed to give us a version that is comparable to the original in terms of quality. Here’s a look at the origin of that cover.
1 cover of Oasis’ ‘Wonderwall’ brings out the insecurity in the original song
The 1990s gave us many rock songs that are still inescapable, such as Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit,” Santana’s “Smooth,” and Rob Zombie’s “Dragula.” However, few of those songs became standards. “Wonderwall” was the biggest exception. The tune has been covered by an eclectic range of artists, including Jay-Z, The Mike Flower Pops, Cat Power, Paul Anka, and Brad Mehldau.
The most famous of these was Ryan Adams’ “Wonderwall.” His version gives the track a lonesome, melancholy feel...

The body of work that Oasis amassed between 1994 and 1996—including Definitely Maybe and (What’s the Story) Morning Glory?, and at least another album’s worth of essential b-sides—has sustained their reputation through the 15 years that have elapsed since Liam and Noel Gallagher parted ways professionally. The band’s first two studio albums are remarkable not only for the quality of the material contained within, but also for the differences between them in terms of content and presentation. While the songs on Morning Glory resulted in copious airplay, Definitely Maybe has enabled Oasis to retain some alt-rock credibility.
This sense of indie authenticity is, in part, the result of the conditions under which Definitely Maybe was made. The story, of a group of twentysomething outsiders drawn to making music in the hope of escaping a life of limited means, is familiar. According to a recent interview with Noel, all...

The best classic rock is always a mix of the old and the new. With Definitely Maybe, Oasis arranged a wonderful marriage of 1990s lyrical sensibilities and the soundscapes of The Beatles and the Sex Pistols. Let’s take a look at the 11 songs from Definitely Maybe from worst to best.
11. ‘Married With Children’
A bitter end to an optimistic record, the acoustic “Married With Children” sadly has nothing to do with Al Bundy. It’s not a bad song, it just feels incongruous in the worst way. If this was part of a different Oasis record or even a few spots higher on the Definitely Maybe tracklist, it wouldn’t leave such a sour taste in the mouth.
10. ‘Shakermaker’
Some pleasant Beatlesque vocal intonations and 1990s guitar fuzz don’t stop this song from sounding too much like “I’d Like to Teach the World to Sing (In Perfect...

Since the late nineties, Noel Gallagher and his brother Liam Gallagher haven’t been on the nicest terms, and their years-long feud eventually led to the Oasis splitting in 2009 after the former left the band. The falling off between the two brothers can be traced back to their time on the third album, which, despite its commercial success, left a lot to be desired for the lead guitarist.

Imagine the early 90s, and the phenomenon that was Oasis that broke out of the British pop music scene. From the grunge of Manchester to the world at their feet, Oasis did not just see the heights of success but touched it and made it their own. It started with frontman Liam Gallagher, but it was his brother Noel, who somehow became the de facto leader of the band, even though he was the very last member to join.

Denzel Washington has consistently delivered standout performances — including as a director in recent years! — across his decades-long career. He already has two Oscars to his name and could be on his way to a third Academy Award with his role in Ridley Scott‘s “Gladiator II.”
This follow-up to the 2000 Best Picture champ stars Lucius (Paul Mescal) as Lucius, the grandson of Roman emperor Marcus Aurelius. Lucius is forced into slavery but resolves to fight as a gladiator under the leadership of power broker Macrinus. And that’s where Washington comes in. The titanic Washington plays Macrinus, who is the mentor figure to Lucius and also opposes the rule of emperors Caracalla (Fred Hechinger) and Geta (Joseph Quinn).
We are predicting that Washington will be nominated for Best Supporting Actor alongside Samuel L. Jackson (“The Piano Lesson”), Clarence Maclin (“Sing Sing”), Kieran Culkin (“A Real Pain”), and Stanley Tucci (“Conclave...

More than 50 years later, Glenn Close is recalling the piece of wisdom from a screen legend that got her interested in acting.
The Academy Award nominee recently described her “huge respect” for Katharine Hepburn and revealed how the late actress inspired her to take up the profession while she was attending Virginia’s College of William & Mary.

I am a sucker for movies about Broadway and those who spend their lives in the theatre. Of course the crown jewel of the genre is the Oscar-winning All About Eve, but there are so many others including 1933’s Morning Glory which won a young Katherine Hepburn her first Academy Award, as well as its rarely seen remake, 1958’s underrated Stage Struck. Ginger Rogers did a good one, too: Forever Female. The list goes on and on and now includes a stellar new entry, The Great Lillian Hall which gives the great Jessica Lange a challenging role worth her talents.
Premiering on HBO May 31, just barely under the wire for Emmy consideration, Lange’s performance as a stage legend facing dementia should send chills down the spine of any other contenders for Lead Actress in a Limited Series or Movie this season. This veteran star simply knocks it out of the park.

Over the past week or so, Apple Music has slowly unveiled the titles included in its list of the “100 best albums.” Today, the top 10 albums were revealed, with Miss Lauryn Hill’s The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill claiming the No. 1 spot. Rounding out the top five are Michael Jackson’s Thriller; The Beatles’ Abbey Road; Prince’s Purple Rain; and Frank Ocean’s Blonde.
The top 10 also includes Stevie Wonder’s Songs in the Key of Life; Kendrick Lamar’s good kid, m.A.A.d city (Deluxe Version); Amy Winehouse’s Back to Black; Nirvana’s Nevermind; and Beyoncé’s Lemonade.

The Academy Awards have been handing out a Best Actress trophy since the very first ceremony in 1928. Janet Gaynor for a combo of “7th Heaven,” “Street Angel” and “Sunrise: A Song of Two Humans” was the first recipient for his leading roles. The most recent champ was Renee Zellweger for “Judy.”
Since then, only one woman has won the category four times: Katharine Hepburn for “Morning Glory,” “Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner,” “The Lion in Winter” and “On Golden Pond.” Next with three is Frances McDormand. The ladies with two lead wins have included Ingrid Bergman, Bette Davis, Olivia de Havilland, Sally Field, Jane Fonda, Jodie Foster, Glenda Jackson, Vivien Leigh, Luise Rainer, Meryl Streep and Hilary Swank. Streep holds the record of most lead nominations at 17.

The Academy Award, popularly known as the Oscars, is the most prestigious award that someone from within the film fraternity can win. It is every actor’s dream to etch their name in the annals of film history, a recognition of their mastery over the art form that takes a significant amount of time to refine. Over the years, several actors have won the award, thus setting themselves apart from the rest. In this article, we will take a look at five such actors whose Oscar records will not be broken anytime soon.
The film industry has seen the rise and fall of actors. While not everyone can make it big, those who have managed to do so have left their mark forever.
It is worth noting that an Oscar alone does not determine one’s talent, as it is merely a reward for the work that they put in.

Being badass on the screen and off the screen are two very different things and not everyone has the personality or guts to do both. However, there are always exceptions and Harrison Ford might be the biggest one in this scenario. The legendary American actor will also go down in history definitely as one of the best interviewees the industry has ever seen.
Harrison Ford
Harrison Ford is always charismatic in interviews
Not a lot of actors can draw the attention of people both on and off the screen as well as Harrison Ford does. Ford is one of the most established actors in the industry and the Star Wars actor is always making headlines for one reason or another.

Upon securing a spot in the 2024 Best Supporting Actress Oscar lineup, Jodie Foster (“Nyad”) officially shattered the Academy Awards record for longest span between fourth and fifth acting nominations. Following her two Best Actress wins for “The Accused” (1989) and “The Silence of the Lambs” (1992), she had last been recognized in that category for “Nell” (1995), making for a general nomination gap of 29 years. Coincidentally, she took this particular distinction from fellow “Silence of the Lambs” winner Anthony Hopkins, who waited 22 years between his supporting bids for “Amistad” (1998) and “The Two Popes” (2020).
Previously, the female record for longest wait for a fifth nomination was 12 years, as shared by Julianne Moore and Frances McDormand. Considering gaps between any two consecutive acting nominations, Foster ranks well behind overall record holder Judd Hirsch, whose first and second career notices for “Ordinary People” (1981) and “The Fabelmans” (2023) came 42 years apart. Of the 272 films that have earned lone acting Oscar nominations – meaning they were each recognized in one performance category and nowhere else – a whopping 101 (or 37.1%) accomplished the feat thanks to lead actresses. Whereas just 60 examples have occurred in the Best Actor category, the corresponding female one reached that benchmark in 1991 and is on track to double it less than two decades from now. Its triple digit total has now been intact for one full year, having directly resulted from the simultaneous nominations of Ana de Armas (“Blonde”) and Andrea Riseborough (“To Leslie”).
Although an Oscar bid was generally expected to follow de Armas’s 2023 BAFTA, Golden Globe, and SAG Award nominations, Riseborough very memorably came out of nowhere, having defied precedent by benefiting from an enthusiastic grassroots campaign. While most of the earlier lone Best Actress contenders belong in de Armas’s camp, many align with Riseborough in having pulled off major surprises.

The motion picture academy has handed out Oscars for leading performances since the first ceremony in 1929. While the Best Actor prize is typically taken by a veteran, the Best Actress Oscar has tended to go to an ingenue. However, those age biases could be changing.
While a whopping 32 of the 96 Best Actress champs were in their 20s when they picked up their Oscars, the last five women to win were: 60-year-old Michelle Yeoh (“Everything Everywhere All at Once”); 45-year old Jessica Chastain (“The Eyes of Tammy Faye”); double champ Frances McDormand, 45-year-old Olivia Colman (“The Favourite”) and 50-year-old Renee Zellweger (“Judy”). Yeoh’s closest rival last year was Cate Blanchett, 53, for “Tar.” (Scroll down for the most up-to-date 2024 Oscar predictions for Best Actress.)

Steven Weisberg, a film editor whose career through the ’90s onward led him to collaborations with directors like Alfonso Cuarón, Barry Sonnenfeld and Barry Levinson, died Oct. 16 at the Motion Picture & Television Fund hospital in Woodland Hills, Calif. after several years of care for early onset Alzheimer’s. He was 68.
Weisberg’s death was confirmed by his ex-wife, Susan Ellicott.
Two of Cuarón’s early films, “Great Expectations” and “A Little Princess,” were edited by Weisberg. The two reunited for a foray into franchise filmmaking, “Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.”
Weisberg also had a knack for editing studio comedies, with his first major feature credit being Ben Stiller’s directorial debut, the 1996 thriller “The Cable Guy.” Other notable credits include a string of Barry Sonnenfeld projects — the short-lived 2001 live-action series “The Tick” and his features “Big Trouble” and “Men in Black II” — as well as “Permanent Midnight,...

Meryl Streep is one of only a few actors who’ve managed to win multiple Oscars. But she considered her third Oscar win particularly special, as it showed her she was still passionate about the awards season.
What did Meryl Streep win her last Oscar for Meryl Streep | Franco Origlia/Getty Images
Streep scored her first two Oscars fairly early in her career. She won a Best Supporting Actress award for her role in Kramer vs. Kramer. A few years later would see her win her second Oscar, and her first Best Actress award, for Sophie’s Choice. She’d be nominated for an Oscar several times afterwards. But it wasn’t until 2012 that she picked up another Best Actress Oscar for The Iron Lady. The historical biopic saw Streep portray the first ever female British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher.
It was an exciting win for Streep, who admittedly still enjoyed winning the prize.

Has any young actress ever had a year Katharine Hepburn experienced in 1933? After making her film debut in 1932’s “Bill of Divorcement” with John Barrymore, the 26-year-old with the preternatural cheekbones demonstrated her versatility in three exceptional motion pictures 90 years ago. The great Kate soared high as famed aviatrix who has a tragic affair with a married member of Parliament in Dorothy Arzner’s daring pre-code romantic drama “Christopher Strong.” Next up was “Morning Glory,” for which she won her first of four best actress Oscars-and of course was a no-show at the ceremony- as an eager young actress. And Hepburn ended the year with “Little Women,” the acclaimed box office hit which made $100,000 during its first week at Radio City Music Hall, based on Louisa May Alcott’s beloved novel.

Harrison Ford once teamed up with James Bond star Daniel Craig for this 2011 sci-fi adventure. And although the movie was a return to form for the Indiana Jones actor, he initially was frustrated with reading the script.

Robert De Niro will go down in Oscars — and cinema — history as one of the best actors of all time and could solidify that status by winning a third Oscar for his turn in “Killers of the Flower Moon.” By so doing, he’s set a new record for the longest gaps between Oscar wins.
Earlier this year, Judd Hirsch set a new record for the longest gap between Oscar nominations after he reaped a Best Supporting Actor bid for “The Fabelmans” 42 years after his nomination for “Ordinary People” in the same category. However, the record for the longest gap between Oscars wins has stood firm for some time and is held by Helen Hayes. She won her first Oscar in 1932 (for Best Actress) for “The Sin of Madelon Claudet.” She won her second Oscar almost 40 years later in 1971, for Best Supporting Actress for “Airport.”

Rachel McAdams had been anointed Hollywood's latest "It Girl" when she was tapped to grace the cover of Vanity Fair's 2006 Oscar issue alongside Keira Knightley and Scarlett Johansson. She was coming off a string of critical and commercial successes in "Mean Girls," "The Notebook," "Red Eye" and "The Family Stone," and appeared to be on the cusp of superstardom. But when McAdams learned, upon arriving at the Tom Ford photoshoot, that she was expected to pose nude, she walked, promptly fired her publicist (who'd failed to inform her of the shoot's parameters), and pressed the pause button on her film career.
Prior to the #MeToo revolution, firing up double rockets at the exploitative Hollywood movie star machine was considered career suicide. This was how women got smeared with the "difficult" label. McAdams, however, persevered and has established herself as one of the most brilliantly unpredictable actors of her generation. She's...

As befitting its status as one of the world’s biggest companies, every now and then Amazon likes to take a big swing with its Prime Video originals. With its list of new releases for April 2023, the streamer is taking one of its biggest swings yet.
Though it’s not quite as vast or expensive as fellow Prime Video series The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, Citadel (premiering April 28) is a massive, massive undertaking. Starring Richard Madden and Priyanka Chopra Jonas, this spy series is described as “an expansive and groundbreaking global event comprising a mothership series and several local language satellite series.” This means that the Russo Brothers-produced project will eventually feature several spinoffs in multiple countries and languages around the world. Neat-o!

Prime Video is hoping to launch its own extended franchise universe in April with the premiere of international spy series “Citadel” from the minds of the Russo Brothers. The show stars Richard Madden, Priyanka Chopra, and Stanley Tucci, and is intended to be the first block of an interconnected story with different spinoffs in countries and regions around the world. The first version will begin streaming on April 28. In the show, the world is in the grips of Manticore, a criminal organization, and several former spies are recruited to restore order despite having their memories erased.

Hugh Grant has picked the hill he wants to die on: A “Notting Hill” Easter egg, to be exact.
The deadpan actor revealed during a Wired video alongside “Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves” co-stars Chris Pine and Michelle Rodriguez that he found the ending of 1999 rom-com “Notting Hill” to be “nauseating” due to a small detail director Roger Michell included.
“Notting Hill,” which has been considered by many a rom-com classic over the years, stars Julia Roberts as Anna Scott, a famous actress who falls for local British bookstore owner William Thacker (Grant) while filming on location. The final scene shows Anna cuddling with William on a park bench as he reads a novel, one that had a special meaning to late director Michell.
“In that nauseating moment on the bench at the end, I’m reading ‘Captain Corelli’s Mandolin’ by Louis de Bernières, which was going to be his next film,...

When Katharine Hepburn made her final big-screen appearance in Warren Beatty's 1994 romantic drama, "Love Affair," it marked the first time in her 62-year film career that she played a supporting role (aside from a cameo in 1943's "Stage Door Canteen") -- and this is all the more amazing when you consider how much she struggled at various junctures to maintain her leading lady status.
Hepburn's options were plentiful at birth. The Connecticut-born daughter of a wealthy urologist and a suffragette campaigner, Hepburn was raised in a permissive environment where societal limitations existed to be disregarded. She cut her hair short, excelled at sports like tennis and golf, wore pants, and smoked cigarettes. She pursued social justice causes at an early age, and received a liberal arts education at Bryn Mawr College (graduating with decidedly unladylike degrees in history and philosophy).
There was nothing performative about Hepburn's interests. She was appreciative of her good fortune,...
