"The Simpsons" is one of the best TV shows of all time, and certainly one of the most popular and influential. With hundreds of episodes across 35 years, the show has covered countless stories, visited many different countries, and touched on just about every major holiday. Indeed, holidays are integral to the history of "The Simpsons," as the show's very first episode was a Christmas special (replacing the original idea for the pilot), and since then there have been many more Christmas-related episodes.
Of course, the holiday most closely related to "The Simpsons" in terms of episodes is Halloween, as we've had a horror episode every year since the show's second season (and some years even more than one) with various degrees of success. But for as many Treehouse of Horror episodes as there are, the opposite is true for Thanksgiving episodes of "The Simpsons," with most just barely touching on the holiday,...

Supernatural may have ruled screens with angels, demons, and endless Winchester drama, but not everyone was buying into its universe. And, as Eric Kripke himself admits, there was a reason why some fans dropped off along the way. His biggest oversight? Giving away too much.

Instead of letting viewers sink into the mystery, Supernatural kept filling in blanks that didn’t really need answers, leading die-hard fans to wonder: had the series lost its edge? For a show about the unknown, it’s ironic that giving away the secrets became its Achilles’ heel, fueling debate to this day.

During their 15-year stay on the CW’s Supernatural, which popped off after reaching the halfway mark and became one of the longest-running WB shows, the Winchester brothers fought a plethora of demonic entities. Jared Padalecki, who starred as Dean’s younger brother, Sam Winchester, developed a superstitious habit following his involvement in the show.

Although his commitment to the Eric Kripke-led show paid off substantially, as it pushed him to stardom, the actor wasn’t able to completely detach himself from the Supernatural setting off-camera.

In a show, that revolves around supernatural elements, character deaths are almost certain, and CW’s Supernatural was no different. Amidst many memorable send-offs to its beloved characters, one death that shook fans was Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s John Winchester, father of Jensle Ackles Dean Winchester.

But it wasn’t the death itself that had fans divided, as the writers’ decision to kill him off at the beginning of season 2 didn’t sit well with everyone, and writer John Shiban later clarified why they swung that way.

Eric Kripke has landed a ton of star-studded projects over the years, and Supernatural was yet another astonishingly baffling addition to the list. The series became such a massive hit among fans that it raged on the screen for 15 stunning seasons. Even after ending its run four years ago, it continues to cement itself as one of the best drama series of all time, especially by Kripke.

But like nothing is ever perfect without any flaws whatsoever, the Winchester saga had some pitfalls of its own. For instance, as the showrunner himself admitted, there were “huge gaping holes” in the series’ third season, which didn’t go the way it was originally planned in early season scripts. And yet, it wasn’t without good reason, considering how it all panned out rather perfectly.

Australian actor Sarah Snook is widely known for her Emmy-winning role as Siobhan "Shiv" Roy, the youngest of the Roy children on the wicked wealth drama "Succession." She appeared in every episode of the show and was able to match the performance of heavy-hitter Brian Cox, who played Shiv's father, Logan. Since "Succession" ended in 2023, Snook has moved back to her acting roots in the theater, appearing on stage in her native Australia.
Even in small supporting roles, however, Snook is an impressive screen presence. She was excellent as a snotty daughter in the ghost story "Winchester," and some might remember her from her small role in "Steve Jobs" in 2015, where she played Apple's marketing guru Andy Cunningham. Snook also appeared in the horror film "Jessabelle" and, in 2023, served as star and executive producer in the film "Run Rabbit Run." Her most recent film was "The Beanie Bubble," which...

Steam Next Fest is in full swing, wrapping up on June 17, with a whole new crop of demos for upcoming games.
It can be overwhelming to figure out which ones are worth your time, so here’s a list of five highlights to try out and add to your wishlist!
Blue Prince
What if the Winchester Mystery House was a roguelike? This is the question that Blue Prince attempts to answer. An eccentric relative of yours passes away and leaves you their mysterious mansion on the condition that you can find the hidden 46th room in the 45 room estate. But of course there’s a catch: the house’s layout shifts every day, making any sort of consistent mapping impossible.
Each day you explore the house and attempt to get as deep as possible. Everytime you open a door, you’re presented with three options for what room will be on the other side.

Director Scott Mann’s thriller Fall, which stars Grace Caroline Currey (Shazam!: Fury of the Gods) and Virginia Gardner (Halloween 2018) as a pair of characters who get stuck at the top of a 2000 foot tall radio tower, was given a theatrical release, but it wasn’t really a break-out hit. It made $21 million worldwide, on a budget of $3 million. More viewers watched it on Amazon, purchased it on Blu-ray or DVD (order it Here), or caught it on Starz or Netflix… and Fall was so successful on Netflix, it was enough to get back-to-back sequels greenlit by Capstone Studios! Mann will be writing and directing Fall 3 himself, but he has decided to hand the helm of the middle installment of this trilogy over another director. Or, as it turns out, other directors. Horror and thriller directors Michael and Peter Spierig (Lionsgate’s Jigsaw) are set to direct Fall 2, it was announced by Capstone Studios’ CEO Christian Mercuri. Scott Mann, who directed and co-wrote the first film, is returning to co-write Fall 2 with Jonathan Frank.
Following the successful survival thriller Fall released in 2022 by Lionsgate, Fall 2 will reunite producers Mark Lane and James Harris of Tea Shop Productions (47 Meters Down), Capstone’s Christian Mercuri, David Haring, and Scott Mann via the Flawless banner.
Dan Asma, John Long, and Roman Viaris will also reunite as executive producers alongside Capstone’s Ruzanna Kegeyan. Capstone will finance the sequel, with Fall 2 set to begin shooting in June 2024.
Capstone Global is handling worldwide rights to the franchise. In late 2023, Capstone Studios greenlit both Fall 2 and Fall 3 under the franchise. Mann will return to write and direct the third installment.

Steven Spielberg and Stephen King. Two artists at the very top of their fields. King: one of the best-selling authors of all time. Spielberg: the filmmaker who invented the blockbuster. How have these guys never worked together? Well, it's not for lack of trying. In fact, these titans have come very close to teaming up on several occasions. When Spielberg was writing "Poltergeist," he wanted King's help with the script. "It didn't work out because it was before the internet and we had a communication breakdown," King told EW.
Then there was "The Talisman," the fantasy novel King co-wrote with the late Peter Straub. Before the book even hit the shelves, Spielberg scooped up the rights — but neither a film nor a TV adaptation has ever materialized. If you’ve been wondering about that potential Fire Country spinoff, we’ve got a little something to pique your interest.
If there was any doubt that CBS hoped to turn Fire Country into the next franchise, a la NCIS or FBI, this casting decision shows they’re hoping to do just that.
Deadline reported today that the spinoff has found its lead.
Morena Baccarin has landed the role of a sheriff, poised to headline a series if the character takes off during Fire Country Season 2.
Earlier reports suggested that this role could play a larger part on the second season and, if popular, spin off to a series of its own.
However, this news suggests that the role might be for one upcoming episode of the series rather than a recurring role that would allow viewers to get to know her a bit before spinning off the canvas.

More than 50 years after its premiere, "M*A*S*H" is still one of the most beloved sitcoms of all time. The show became a phenomenon across its 11 seasons and bowed out on a high note with a finale that was watched by millions. The show also became so firmly entrenched in the cultural zeitgeist that decades later, viewers are still curious about the cast and the relationships behind the scenes. There have been some great recent reunions in recent years -- for one, Mike Farrell and Alan Alda read (and then criticized) an AI-written "M*A*S*H" script earlier this year. Netflix’s new techno chiller T.I.M. follows a career-conscious woman called Abi as she moves into a new smart home with her seemingly not-very-trustworthy husband Paul. Even as she tries to make an impact with her new employer, he decides to gift her a “Technologically Integrated Manservant” (T.I.M.) to fuss around the house and help her out while she’s busy at work. T.I.M. might be the creepiest robot version of Alexa possible!
It’s not long before T.I.M. is taking it upon himself to do more than re-up groceries and sweep the floors, becoming obsessed with Abi and having a marked distaste for her formerly wayward husband. Things soon spiral out of control in the spotless smart home while Abi is distracted by the wild demands of her boss. Can T.I.M. be stopped from doing something deadly before it’s too late?...

There are two new wide or semi-wide releases this weekend, “The Last Voyage of the Demeter” and “Jules,” but how many moviegoers will actually buy tickets with so many other stronger contenders still in theaters? Read on for Gold Derby’s box office preview.
Before we get to the new movies this week, we probably should address the “Barbenheimer” in the room. There’s very little doubt that “Barbie” can pull off a rare fourth weekend at #1 with upwards of $32 million or more after holding up so well against “Meg 2” and the “Ninja Turtles” this past weekend. Christopher Nolan’s “Oppenheimer” also has a good chance at reclaiming second place, since it’s likely to have a smaller drop-off this weekend than both of last week’s new movies.

In Run Rabbit Run, “Snook plays a fertility doctor who believes firmly in life and death, but after noticing the strange behaviour of her young daughter, must challenge her own values and confront a ghost from her past.”
Daina Reid (“Shining Girls,” “The Handmaid’s Tale,” “The Outsider”)directed the film, written by Hannah Kent (The Good People, Devotion). Run Rabbit Run also stars Lily Latorre, Damon Herriman (House of Wax, The Nightingale, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood), and Greta Scacchi (Darby & Joan, Shepherd).

A sequel to Taylor Sheridan's Wyoming reservation-set thriller "Wind River" is in the works, and it officially has a cast attached. Scott Eastwood, Jason Clarke, and Chaske Spencer have all boarded "Wind River: The Next Chapter," with "The Falcon and the Winter Soldier" filmmaker Kari Skogland set to direct.
The original 2017 film starred Jeremy Renner and Elizabeth Olsen as a Fish and Wildlife agent and an FBI agent who are partnered together to solve a potential homicide involving a Native American teen girl. While the movie was well-made and spotlighted the endemic, underrepresented issue of missing and murdered Indigenous women, "Wind River" also received criticism for the way some viewers say Sheridan — a white man whose works, including "Yellowstone," often feature Indigenous characters — sensationalized on-screen violence against Native women.

The usually bustling lives of the students at Bringston University came to a halt after the campus was put on lockdown due to a bomb threat during Monday night’s episode of The CW series All American: Homecoming.
It’s a story that showrunners Nkechi Okoro Carroll and Marqui Jackson have been hoping to bring to the small screen since the show’s inception, given the rising number of bomb threats made against historically Black colleges and universities over the past several years.
HBCUs in the United States have been targeted by bomb threats at least 57 times this year. In August, Howard University received two bomb threats in the span of a week. To date, no arrests have been made in connection with any of these incidents.

Richard Speight Jr. played the trickster Loki, or the angel Gabriel, or the angel Gabriel pretending to be Loki on twelve episodes of Supernatural over the course of that show’s fifteen seasons, and now it has been announced that he has reprised the role of Loki for episode 8 of the prequel series The Winchesters! The Winchesters airs on The CW at 8pm Est on Tuesday nights. It’s currently only three episodes into its debut season, so it will be a few more weeks before Speight shows up. Speight is also on board to direct a few episodes of the show. He previously directed eleven episodes of Supernatural.
TV Insider provided the following quote from showrunner Robbie Thompson: “Richard’s an old friend of mine, so it was a question of when, not if,” offers Thompson, who gives “total credit” to the show’s writers for finding a...

It’s getting tricky over at The Winchesters! The CW has just confirmed that Supernatural alum Richard Speight Jr. is set to reprise his role as Loki on the eighth episode of the mothership’s prequel hit. As Spn fans know, Speight’s character is the Norse demigod and the original Trickster, described by the net’s release as being “as dangerous as he is wily.” Still sporting that “veneer of whimsy to mask his malevolence, Loki thrives on crooked games and sowing chaos — and Hunters are one of his favorite playthings.” Dean Buscher/The CW “Richard’s an old friend of mine, so it was a question of when, not if,” offers showrunner Robbie Thompson, who gives “total credit” to the show’s writers for finding a way to work Loki into the early Winchester lore. “I think it was in New Orleans actually when we were shooting Episode...

When not making tons of money collaborating with James Stewart, Anthony Mann directed some really grim westerns. This mini-epic spells out the ugly real-life Code of The West: seizing land and establishing private empires. Walter Huston’s T.C. Jeffords maintains his sprawling fiefdom through economic tyranny (he prints his own money and expects banks to accept it) — and by simple violence, murdering the people that have lived on ‘his’ land for generations. Barbara Stanwyck is the feisty heir who wages generational war on her piratical father. It’s the darkest and most subversive of Huac-era ‘noir’ westerns.

The Flash may be back running in front of the camera soon: The CW’s superhero hit is among a number of Vancouver-based shows planning a return to production in late August, according to our sister site Deadline.
Warner Bros. TV is reportedly eyeing a start date between Aug. 20 and 27 for its shows that shoot in Vancouver, including The Flash, Riverdale and upcoming series Superman & Lois. That date marks when cast members would begin arriving in Vancouver before undergoing a mandatory two-week quarantine. Only after that quarantine period would cast members be able to start filming.

In the days leading up to the Fourth of July, New York governor Andrew Cuomo took to social media urging state residents to avoid indoor parties and large gatherings. But it seems folks didn’t listen and after seeing pictures of packed beaches and stocked bars surface online, a second wave of coronavirus-induced quarantine and social distancing seems closer than ever before.

July is finally here and a lot of cool new films are now live on Netflix. Every month brings hundreds of fresh titles, but I have to say that this month is a particularly rich crop. Let’s take a look at the horror genre in particular, though.
Most prominent of the new horror arrivals is the first Paranormal Activity. Released back in 2007, this is a truly groundbreaking horror movie whose positive effects on the industry we’re still appreciating to this day. Its most immediate impact was popularizing the found footage genre, but long-term it established Jason Blum’s Blumhouse Productions as a force to be reckoned with. There’s a new entry in the pipeline right now, so what better time to re-familiarize yourself with one of the most effective and scary low-budget horror films of the modern era?
Next up are a slew of lesser, but interesting horror titles.

When it comes to Netflix – and most major streaming services, for that matter – the first of the month is always a big deal. It’s when the most new content arrives and usually brings with it a heavy helping of fresh material for subscribers to sink their teeth into. And sure enough, July is no different.
Yes, as it’s July 1st today, the streamer has opened the floodgates and unleashed a whole bunch of new movies and TV shows. And as you can see from the complete list below, we’ve got quite the selection to choose from. Be it the excellent and sorely underrated sci-fi epic Cloud Atlas, horror juggernaut Paranormal Activity, the visually stunning Sucker Punch or early Johnny Depp films like Donnie Brasco and Sleepy Hollow, you surely won’t have trouble finding something to flip on tonight and enjoy.
But don’t just take our word for it.

Netflix is often home to some of streaming’s absolute best content, including top-tier original films and shows that have long-since rivalled the production quality of theatrical and cable releases. It’s also one of the easiest places to find huge collections from your favorite genres, especially since it’s so well-known for procuring plenty of classics alongside more modern content. That said, if you’re a fan of horror, you’re really in luck come July, as you can expect a smorgasbord of scary and unsettling content launching for you to watch throughout the month.
One notable entry making its way to the service is 2007’s Paranormal Activity, which is often credited for kicking off the “home camera” sub-genre of supernatural horror films. It tells the story of a young couple who are being terrorized by forces they can’t visibly see, and it’s shot entirely via a home camera.

Every year, movies are being produced at faster rates and in greater quantity, and that’s thanks – in part – to streamers like Netflix. Because of their business strategy, customers can now watch thousands of films for the same price as a single cinema ticket. As such, the entertainment appetite of the American public has been growing stronger with each passing season. To that end, here’s an overview of the best new movies coming to Netflix next month.
First off, we got science fiction and fantasy. Fans of visiting other worlds will be in for a treat in July, as Netflix will be adding Cloud Atlas to its library. How does Netflix determine which titles leave and which enter its dauntingly large library? Do they carefully analyze viewing statistics and find content that caters to our interests? Or do they simply throw an immense amount of content at the wall and watch what sticks?
The answer is probably a mix of both. Like most entertainment companies, Netflix knows full well the potential of mathematics, but it also respects the creative spirit. As such, some new additions may have been carefully chosen, and others not. In any case, here’s an overview of the 81 new movies and TV shows headed to the platform this coming week.

The summer movie season, as we usually know it, isn’t happening this year, with few big releases planning to drop over the next couple of months, even if cinemas are just starting to reopen. Instead, then, it’s falling on Netflix and the various other streaming services to pull their weight and give movie lovers a range of new content to feast on. Thankfully, July isn’t looking too shabby for original films and TV, not to mention lots of classics or underrated gems appearing on all the usual sites.
Of course, Netflix has the most original output coming across next month. TV fans, in particular, have got much to look forward to, including season 2 of The Umbrella Academy. In fact, it’s a good month for fantasy series based off comic books all-round, as we’ve also got Arthurian retelling Cursed and super-powered action show Warrior Nun coming as well.

You know, plenty of streaming services would treat the dog days of summer as an excuse to slow down. At Netflix, however, the content buffet is still open, baby. Despite the coronavirus pandemic shutting down all of Hollywood for an extended period of time, Netflix’s new releases for July 2020 are still jam-packed with a host of familiar originals.
The blockbuster this month is probably The Umbrella Academy season 2. The next installment for the Hargreeves family arrives on July 31. And if that’s too long of a wait for you, Netflix gets the month off to a strong start with a string of originals as well. Unsolved Mysteries arrives on July 1, followed by Warrior Nun on July 2, and The Baby-Sitter’s Club on July 3. That’s not even to mentioned the feminist take on Arthurian legend, Cursed, which premiers on July 17.
There are a couple of intriguing original movies to consider this month as well.

Backed by Australian and international institutions and private equity, Epf is prepared to immediately provide debt funding to film and television productions in Australia and New Zealand despite the pandemic.
Managing director Craig McMahon, who founded Epf in 2018, tells If: “We have the ability to take on a significant amount of work. We are excited to re-open our doors to producers seeking debt finance for their productions.
“The landscape has significantly changed, producers have had to adjust to new working environments and as a lender, we have responded swiftly by reviewing our lending protocols.
“These new protocols will enable us to consider projects impacted by the lack of Covid-19 coverage within insurance policies and completion guarantees, which is a crucial first step in redefining our lending conditions.

McNamara’s script will follow two gunslingers who are hired by a 15-year-old girl to kill a monster that lives underneath the basement in the home of the title character Miss Hawkline.
