If you can’t beat ’em, the old saying goes, join ’em. In Kevin Bacon’s case, that meant accepting the fact that Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon — the party game that requires you to link every known actor to Bacon in six movies or less — was never going away. So he embraced the phenomenon and founded SixDegrees.org in 2007, a charitable organization whose efforts to fight hunger are being honored Nov. 1 in New York City with a Harry Chapin Humanitarian Award (named for the “Cat’s in the Cradle” songwriter).
And speaking of joining ’em, Bacon’s daughter, Sosie Bacon — who stars in Paramount’s gruesome hit Smile — is now well on her way toward joining her father as a horror movie icon. (Dad, you may recall, has been in a number of classic scary films, dating all the way back to 1980’s Friday the 13th.

In between pandemic musical sessions with his goats, Kevin Bacon seems to have figured out the world. From admitting to having skin too thin to read social media comments to reflecting on how volatile Hollywood can be, a revealing 2021 interview with Esquire shows that he's also learned a lot about himself and life.
So, when he admits that there's only one film role he cares to revisit in the dozens of movies he's appeared in since his 1978 debut in "Animal House," we should pay attention. Bacon has walked a fine line between leading man and this generation's greatest character actor, playing everything from the provocative new kid in town in "Footloose" to a tortured and menacing child molester in "The Woodsman."
Bacon says he prefers to move on to the next role once a project is done, although there is one film that might be worth revisiting. One might say...

It's the most wonderful time of the year. No, it's not quite Christmas time yet, but it is time for new Marvel Cinematic Universe releases. Thanks to Disney+, these occurrences are happening more often each year, which is sure to please all the good little True Believers across the multiverse. However, the latest Marvel Studios Special Presentation is still sure to put everyone in the holiday spirit because, with a month to go until its release, Disney+ has unveiled the first trailer for "The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special."
Following the events of "Avengers: Endgame" and "Thor: Love and Thunder," Star-Lord finally has time to let Gamora's fate sink in. Though there is another version of Zoe Saldana's character from a different timeline out there in the galaxy right now, the fact that the "original" one from the Sacred Timeline was sacrificed to complete Thanos' Infinity Gauntlet is...

The phenomenal success of "Footloose" launched Kevin Bacon into newfound stardom and recognition when it danced its way into theaters in February of 1984. Bacon had already appeared in "Friday the 13th" and Barry Levinson's coming-of-age classic "Diner," but the role of Ren McCormack essentially made the young heartthrob a household name. The surprisingly dark bike messenger drama "Quicksilver" came next, a movie I personally love that didn't exactly light the box office on fire. Working with John Hughes and Christopher Guest on "She's Having a Baby" and "The Big Picture" produced two quality films that showcased Bacon as an unconventional leading man; however, neither movie broke through to the mainstream.
The heat generated from "Footloose" was burning out, and Bacon, in a recent EW interview, admitted he wasn't doing well financially when the creature feature "Tremors" came his way.

In 2017, Kevin Bacon was one of an estimated 40,000 people defrauded by Bernie Madoff in what was the largest Ponzi scheme in history. Now, he is reflecting on the crime with a positive vibe.
On the October 10th episode of the SmartLess podcast–hosted by Jason Bateman, Will Arnett and Sean Tracey Hayes–Kevin Bacon opened up about being swindled in Bernie Madoff’s infamous Ponzi scheme, which was estimated to be worth around 65 million, a feat not recognized by Guinness. What is, however, is the “most connected actor living”–and it’s not even Kevin Bacon, it’s Harvey Keitel!
Considering Kevin Bacon and his wife Kyra Sedgwick lost millions of dollars in the scheme, the Footloose actor has a remarkably hopeful outlook on the situation. “Whatever doesn’t kill you makes you stronger…We just rolled up our sleeves.”
The positivity rings through some rather inspirational thoughts. “There’s obvious life lessons there,...

Kevin Bacon has opened up about losing “most” of his money in Bernie Madoff’s Ponzi scheme.
During Monday’s (10 October) episode of the SmartLess podcast, hosted by fellow actors Sean Hayes, Jason Bateman and Will Arnett, the Footloose star revealed that he and his wife, Kyra Sedgwick, had invested and lost “most of our money” in Madoff’s 50b (£45.2b) Ponzi scheme.
“There’s obvious life lessons there. You know, if something is too good to be true, it’s too good to be true,” Bacon reflected.
“When something like that happens, you know, you look at each other, then you go, ‘Well, that sucks. Let’s roll up our sleeves and get to work,’ you know?”
The 64-year-old later said: “We’ve made it this far. Our kids are healthy. We’re healthy. Let’s look at what we have that’s good.”

Chlöe Bailey says she was moved to tears by her sister Halle’s journey in the upcoming The Little Mermaid remake.
Bailey, who was by her younger sister’s side as she auditioned for the film, reveals she got a little emotional during the audition process and says she can’t wait for audiences to see the final product.
“I went with my sister to the screen test before she officially got the role and seeing her perform ‘Part of Your World’ with just a piano, I cried,” Bailey tells Rolling Stone.

Sadly, some classic movies and one popular show in particular are leaving Netflix in October to make room for a spooky slate full of fright. “Schitt’s Creek” fans have until Oct. 2 to binge all six seasons before the show heads to Hulu for streaming. Any “After” fanfiction readers have until Oct. 8 to watch where the story begins between Hardin (Hero Fiennes Tiffin) and Tessa (Josephine Langford).
Other favorite films leaving the streamer in October include “Footlose,” “The Notebook” “Bridget Jones’ Diary,” “8 Mile,” “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” and “Miss Congeniality,” and most of those titles depart on Halloween. TV shows leaving include “Naruto” Seasons 1-9, “Sofia the First,” “Hemlock Grove” Seasons 1-3, and of course all six seasons of “Schitt’s Creek.”
Here’s a full list of what’s leaving Netflix in October and the dates that each title leaves:

It remains to be seen if moviegoers are stoked for a return to the "Beverly Hills Cop" universe, but lots of big names are lining up to join Eddie Murphy onscreen for his first Axel Foley foray in 28 years.
According to Deadline, he latest star to sign on for "Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley" is Kevin Bacon. Who's he playing? No clue. A by-the-book police chief who's heard of the Detroit detective's calamitous L.A. antics, and is determined to kick his streetsmart butt out of town? A slick, wealthy pillar of the community who's doing a little human trafficking on the side? Or maybe they'll borrow a twist from "Die Hard with a Vengeance," and make Bacon the revenge-seeking brother of Ellis DeWalt, the cop-killing antagonist from the universally beloved "Beverly Hills Cop III."
It's impossible to say because, at present, we know nothing about "Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley...

Actor Kevin Bacon was forbidden by wife Kyra Sedgwick from “dancing to ‘Footloose’ dressed as a giant peanut” for a commercial.
Married to the 57-year-old actress since 1988, the 64-year-old actor revealed that she “doesn’t like it when food talks”, reports aceshowbiz.com.
“It is true that I had to turn down dancing to ‘Footloose’ dressed as a giant peanut M&m for a commercial, because my wife doesn’t like it when food talks,” shared Bacon, who starred in the 1984 musical drama film ‘Footloose’.
“It’s just a thing she has. If she sees a talking grape, it freaks her out. When there was the possibility I might be a talking M&m, she just said, ‘No, that’s too far’.”
Despite this, Kevin has starred in lots of adverts for the UK mobile network operator Ee over the last decade.

Sometimes even when you win, you lose. For Dianne Wiest, that might just be the case. The Academy Award-winning actor says that winning an Oscar wasn't the career boon she thought it would be. Despite flashing impressive range in roles that netted three Best Supporting Actress nominations and two wins, Wiest says she's been boxed in by playing the same character in nearly every movie she's offered.
When you think about Wiest, you might think of Vi, the mother of the rebellious Ariel in "Footloose." Or maybe you think of the struggling divorced mom Helen in "Parenthood." Or perhaps Peg, the mother-like figure for Edward in "Edward Scissorhands." Maybe Joan, the matriarch of the Short family in the CBS sitcom "Life in Pieces?" And of course, there's Lucy, mother of the vampire-fighting Emerson brothers in "The Lost Boys."
And that's Wiest's point. Despite her acting chops, authenticated by the two...

John Lithgow is set to direct the off-Broadway run of Everything’s Fine, the one-man show from Academy Award and BAFTA nominee Douglas McGrath.
The autobiographical play recounts the actor, writer and director’s life, starting at the age of 14 in Midland, Texas, the town made famous by the 1987 well rescue of “Baby Jessica.” The Emma and Nicholas Nickleby screenwriter will detail some of his most significant remembrances, including the courtship of his one-eyed father and his mother — the latter of whom worked at Harper’s Bazaar for Diana Vreeland and became pals with Andy Warhol — and an eighth-grade teacher who changed McGrath’s life in the most unexpected way.
Everything’s Fine will mark McGrath’s first New York stage performance in more than 25 years. The show serves as Lithgow’s return to directing after more than four decades.

Just a few months ago, Netflix appeared to be on a very rough track. Then Stranger Things season 4 came around and led to a less-apocalyptic-than-expected Q2 earnings report for the streamer. With its new releases for August 2022, however, Netflix is going to have to find another hit to keep the good vibes rolling. Here are some of their best options.
Perhaps the biggest breakout candidate for Netflix this month is The Sandman on Aug. 5. Though Neil Gaiman’s classic comic has long been thought to be unadaptable, the folks behind 10-episode series are betting they’re the ones for the job. Get ready to meet Morpheus, the king of dreams and the ruler of The Dreaming.

Jeff Goldblum gave renewed meaning to the oft-used phrase “intimate concert” on Wednesday night during his jazz comedy show at The Sun Rose in West Hollywood.
Before Goldblum was joined on stage by the Mildred Snitzer Orchestra, with whom he has released two jazz albums, the “Jurassic World Dominion” star kicked off the show solo by getting to know his audience. But this wasn’t your average pre-concert Q&a or call-and-response game. Goldblum went down a list of attendees’ names and held personal conversations with a good portion of the cozy 100-person room. Many were called at random, but Goldblum did find a few friends in the venue — including “Russian Doll” actor Charlie Barnett and TV host Naz Perez — and chatted about everything from upcoming weddings and microdosing to his recent trip to Italy to walk in Prada’s fashion show.
“You like the jazz music? Well, we’re gonna play some,...

Spoiler Alert: Do not read if you haven’t watched the first two episodes of Season 3 of “Umbrella Academy,” now streaming on Netflix.
When “The Umbrella Academy” last aired new episodes, in July 2020, its star occupied a different place in the culture, under a different name.
Elliot Page, the Academy Award-nominated performer, is by far the highest-profile member of the show’s cast — all playing a family of superheroes perennially trying to thwart apocalypse. And his public disclosure that he is a trans man in late 2020 presented the series with a conundrum as it looked ahead to a third season. How could “The Umbrella Academy” best leverage Page’s talent and honor the work he’d already put in on the show, while accounting for the fact that his character, known to this point as Vanya, had for two seasons presented as a woman?
The answer, with a new season...

Nowadays it’s hard for any superhero show to stand out on television. Through three seasons on Netflix, however, The Umbrella Academy has discovered that it sure does help to have a banging soundtrack.
Fittingly for a TV series based on a comic written by a musician (My Chemical Romance’s Gerard Way), The Umbrella Academy knows its way around a tune. Season 1 was highlighted by an instant classic group dance session to Tiffany. Then the 1963-set season 2 upped the ante with a whole host of period-appropriate songs. For season 3, Umbrella Academy showrunner Steve Blackman wanted to make sure music played just as big a role.
“I write a lot of songs already into the script. And I encourage my writers to do the same thing,” Blackman tells Den of Geek. “Sometimes they make sense in the scene. Sometimes they’re a little weirdly subversive. And sometimes it’s just...

Regular viewers of “America’s Got Talent” are used to seeing dog acts year after year, but chicken acts are few and far between. In fact, the last time such an act graced the “AGT” stage was in 2017 when Jokgu, a piano-playing pollo, made it to the second round after playing “America the Beautiful” on a keyboard. Now, poultry fans at home have another such act to look forward to, only this time it’s an entire band of chickens collectively known as The Bock and Roll Band (watch above).
Led by young chicken trainer Zoe Tomas, the band of cluckers made its debut in the second episode of Season 17. The 11-year-old California girl explains to judges Simon Cowell, Howie Mandel, Heidi Klum and Sofia Vergara that she started training chickens when she was age seven, which prompts Howie to joke, “What came first, the chicken or the ‘AGT’?”

Not considered a seminal year in Hollywood history, 1984 delivered an amazing number of iconic American films. Here’s a sampling of movies that still resonate today: “Beverly Hills Cop,” “The Karate Kid,” “Footloose,” “Purple Rain,” “The Terminator,” “Scarface,” “Romancing the Stone,” “Police Academy,” “This Is Spinal Tap,” “Stop Making Sense,” “Stranger Than Paradise,” and “A Nightmare on Elm Street.”
Four 1984 releases ended up with domestic grosses above $400 million (adjusted to 2020 values). Three led the weekend that year. The top two, “Ghostbusters” and “Gremlins,” in an unusual event, opened in wide release on the same day.
The third-ranked film, in its third week and after two weeks in the top spot, was “Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom.” Fourth in its second week was “Star Trek III: The Search for Spock.” “The Karate Kid” opened two weeks later. Five of 1984’s eight biggest hits opened within less than a month.

Melanie Parker didn’t know what to expect when she reopened Sweet Onion Cinemas in Vidalia, Ga., shortly after the governor lifted the stay-at-home order. It’s been a few weeks now, and the attendance numbers are pretty dismal.
The first weekend, 34 people came through the doors. The next weekend, it dropped to 14. Parker changed the lineup, adding some Christian movies, and it picked back up to 39 — still a fraction of a typical weekend before the pandemic.
“They’re scared,” Parker says.
Around the country, only a handful of states have allowed theaters to reopen, and in those places most cinemas — including all the big chains — have remained closed. About 3% of indoor theaters were open last week, and those were at limited capacity. Georgia was the first state to reopen, but only a handful of cinemas have actually done so.
Malcolm Neal runs the Ritz Theatre, a historic single-screen cinema in the town of Thomaston.

As its title character might put it, “Dolemite Is My Name” is a total motherf—kin’ blast. It tells the story — all true, all outrageous — of one of the most successful blaxploitation films of the ’70s, the insanely over-the-top and borderline inept “Dolemite” (1975), and of how that movie came to be. And it turns the story into a celebration of the effrontery of African-American showbiz. One definition of soul, given the history of racism in this country, is that it’s about the art of making more out of less. Soul food grew out of the fact that slaves were given the lowliest cuts of meat; they took those leftover slabs and turned them into America’s greatest homegrown cuisine. Rudy Ray Moore, played by Eddie Murphy with a motormouth brashness that won’t quit (and a twinkle of sweetness behind it), is dealing with his own version of slim...

Parents Dennis Quaid and Meg Ryan know that being an actor can be very hard, so when their son, Jack Quaid, expressed interest in their profession at a young age, Dennis told him to wait until he was an adult. Chicago – When Johnny comes marching home again, as the old song goes, we’ll give him a hearty welcome then. Most Americans truncate that to the phrase, “Thank You for Your Service,” which is the title of a new film featuring Miles Teller, who portrays Iraq War veteran Adam Schumann, and is the directorial debut of Jason Hall.
The film is about the lingering effects of being on a battlefield, and the lack of care given to the soldiers who have Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (Ptsd). Adam Schumann (Teller) comes home from the Iraq War to his wife and kids, along with a couple other buddies from his unit, Will and Solo (Joe Cole and Beulah Koale). As they try to assimilate back to normalcy, Will takes his own life. This triggers buried war traumas in Adam and Solo, and they lash out in different ways against the battle fatigue and families.

As the sleepy little town of America is placed under the rule of fear-mongering, puritanical traditionalists, hell-bent on oppressing our dangerously liberal ideas and banning lascivious merriment of any sort, those of us who would rebel are only emboldened to collude in secret, to meet in a place where everybody cut, everybody cut, everybody cuts loose. And so it is that the Resistance has naturally formed around the 2011 remake of Footloose, whose official Twitter recently reemerged, newly awakened to its political responsibilities, and began to lead the charge in kicking off our nation’s Sunday shoes.
As The Wrap reports, the @FootlooseMovie account—which had mostly laid dormant since 2011—returned yesterday with a fire that went well beyond promoting Julianne Hough’s disobedient dancing. The account changed its username to “The resistance” and its profile photo to a picture of Hillary Clinton, then began retweeting videos and tweets ...

Here’s how studios say they see it: Sure, we really want to hire women directors. But there’s almost no studio movie that isn’t big budget, and we can’t find women who have the experience necessary to handle the really big movies. (Never mind Colin Trevorrow. Or Marc Webb. Or Gareth Edwards. Or Jon Watts.)
Of course, that logic is a vicious cycle at best, but here’s a chance to break it. Director Reed Morano’s dazzling execution of the first three episodes of Hulu’s “The Handmaid’s Tale” suggests another excellent source for future women directors: top cinematographers.
