The clocks have gone back. Winter is coming. And that can only mean one thing. No, not Christmas — news from Westeros, of course! With prequel series House Of The Dragon proving a hit with fans and critics alike (even if not always Thrones author George R. R. Martin), and spin-off show A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms well on its way, stock in Game Of Thrones — five years after HBO's eight season fantasy epic concluded — has scarcely been higher. And now, as THR are reporting, it looks like A Song Of Ice And Fire may be about to be sung on the big screen at long last.
According to THR, "at least one" film set in Martin's world of dragons, politicking, warfare, and White Walkers is in development at Warner Bros. already. And whilst said development is very early stages, with no creatives attached in front of or behind the camera,...

House of the Dragon Almost Got Shelved—Here’s Why That Nearly-Disaster Led to Its Success! (Photo Credit – Instagram)
Believe it or not, House of the Dragon almost failed. HBO was ready to cancel the Game of Thrones prequel before it started. Crazy, huh? The show is killing it today because of that near-miss.
HBO has many Game of Thrones spinoffs in the pipeline, but only sometimes. After Game of Thrones finished in 2019, the network took its time—maybe too long—releasing new content. They even spent $30 million on a prequel pilot called Blood Moon about the Long Night to cancel it. Talk about brutal.
But it wasn’t just Bloodmoon that faced the axe. According to co-showrunner Ryan Condal, House of the Dragon was also close to being shelved. Condal revealed, “HBO was going to shelve it” until George R.R. Martin stepped in. This was the story Martin wanted to tell most,...

"Game of Thrones" had its share of recastings -- they were inevitable with a production and an ensemble as sprawling as the show had. The series had two Daario Naharises (Ed Skrein and then Michiel Huisman) and three Gregor Cleganes. After season 2, "Game of Thrones" also recast both of the younger Lannister-Baratheon siblings, Myrcella (Aimée Richardson and then future "First Omen" star Nell Tiger Free) and King Tommen (Callum Wharry and Dean Charles Chapman). Even Daenerys Targaryen was played by Tamzin Merchant, not Emilia Clarke, in the unaired (and then remade) "Game of Thrones" pilot.
One "Game of Thrones" recasting might have slipped your notice, though, because both successive actors were buried beneath make-up. That recasting would be the Night King, leader of the undead White Walkers. In seasons 4 and 5, the Night King was played by Welsh actor Richard Brake; you might recognize him as Joe Chill (murderer of Bruce Wayne's parents) from "Batman Begins,...

The 71st Primetime Emmys were held at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on September 22nd, 2019. While it was a big night for shows like “Game of Thrones,” “Fleabag,” and “Chernobyl” in their respective genre fields, there were a fair amount of surprises that the Gold Derby odds didn’t predict. Perhaps the biggest shock of the night was Jason Bateman winning Best Drama Directing for “Ozark’s” season two premiere, “Reparations.” How was he able to overcome his sixth place odds and win his first Emmy for directing?
When the nominations were announced on July 16th, 2019, “Game of Thrones” led the drama field with 32 bids for its eighth and final season. It was followed by “Better Call Saul,” “Killing Eve,” “Ozark” and “This Is Us,” all earning 9 noms each. “Game of Thrones” was touted to handily win its fourth Drama Series Emmy as well as its third for directing.

One of the hard-earned truths of Game of Thrones is its sudden and shocking tragedies that not only catch the viewers unaware but leave them shaken for weeks after. But despite placing no value on a hero’s life and killing off fan-favorite characters without hesitation, such bold strokes on the creators’ part only invited more frenzied fanatics to the show instead of putting them off.

Facehugging foes. All-time-great action heroes. A sense of sheer unknowable terror. Over four decades since the Alien saga first hatched from a mysterious pulsing egg – and burst out of John Hurt’s chest – the sci-fi horror franchise remains one of the all-time greats. Spanning an incredible 45 years and nine instalments (counting the Alien Vs Predator crossovers), the franchise continues to reinvent itself with each entry – from haunted house movie, to war actioner, to prison drama, to existential sci-fi exploration.
With director Fede Alvarez’s Alien: Romulus in cinemas – and Noah Hawley’s upcoming TV series Alien: Earth soon to scare us on the small screen – Empire hopped on a ship to Lv-426 to argue the toss over which Alien movie is the best. Read the official ranking below.
9) Aliens Vs Predator: Requiem
The Brothers Strause’s disastrous 2007 sequel Avp: Requiem continued the multi-franchise crossover between the cinema’s two most beloved extraterrestrial horror creatures.

Based on George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire series of fantasy novels, Game of Thrones was a breakthrough for HBO. Debuting in 2011, It straddled multiple eras of its network’s ownership and technology.
The series showed that massive audiences would respond to fantasy series with dense mythologies. It also included a massive number of characters and place names.
And even though the series eventually got beyond Martin’s published books, many fans were dissatisfied with how the series ended. But Game of Thrones remains mostly well-remembered.
(Ollie Upton/HBO)
As with most popular franchises in the present day, the overseers of what is now Warner Bros. Discovery have sought to extend the franchise in additional directions and indefinitely into the future.

Game of Thrones becomes the victim of Family Guy’s wrath.
Family Guy has been running since 1999 and throughout the years, the animated series has made it its business to joke about celebrities and pop culture in the most brutal way possible. Whether it’s Stewie and Brian’s visit to the fuzzy world of Disney or Indiana Jones’ adventures, Family Guy sure knows how to make its audience double over with laughter with meta-commentary.

Amongst many such episodes, our favorite has to be the time when the show parodied one of the most iconic shows in television history – Game of Thrones. In just under seven minutes, Family Guy gave us a summarized version of the fantasy-drama but dare we say that it ended better than the actual show?

Another even-numbered year, another season of HBO’s “Game of Thrones” spinoff series “House of the Dragon.” While the Season 2 finale did answer some of the audience’s big questions like “will Rhaena have a staring contest with the big Vale dragon” (yes) and “will Corlys beat the accusations of being a deadbeat dad” (no), it also contained some scenes that require a little more explanation to make sense.
One of those scenes is Daemon’s (Matt Smith) weirwood vision in the godswood at Harrenhal, the culmination of an arc that saw the King Consort tripping Harren-balls for five straight episodes. Though this vision formally ties the events of “House of the Dragon” to “Game of Thrones,” the significance doesn’t stop there. Here’s the real meaning of Daemon’s vision from the “House of the Dragon” Season 2 finale.
What happened when Daemon touched the weirwood?
You asked; let’s go.

This article contains spoilers for House of the Dragon season 2 episode 8 and details from the novel Fire & Blood.
It’s been a long, strange journey for Daemon Targaryen (Matt Smith) on House of the Dragon season 2.
After falling out with his niece/wife Rhaenyra in episode 2, The Rogue Prince has spent his days in the haunted castle Harrenhal, ostensibly trying to raise a Riverlands army but really being haunted by ghosts of Christmas past. In the season 2 finale, however, Daemon’s remembrances from long ago are replaced with dark visions of the future.
Assisted by the witchy Alys Rivers (Gayle Rankin), Daemon accesses Westeros’ network of weirwood trees to glimpse into the days to come. What he sees spooks him enough to immediately declare his fealty to Rhaenyra on her arrival, rather than continuing his silly game of pursuing the crown for his own.

This article contains spoilers for "House of the Dragon."
"House of the Dragon" has really surpassed all expectations for what a prequel to a beloved (then very hated) TV show can be, carrying over all the good political intrigue and backstabbing from "Game of Thrones," while also finding the time to give us truly weird and bizarre subplots like Daemon going through his own version of "Luigi's Mansion" at Harrenhal.
Of course, the raison d'être for "House of the Dragon" is being able to see a time when the titular dragons ruled the skies and went into battle relatively constantly. So far, the show has delivered on the promise of absolute mayhem and seeing hellfire falling from the sky in the medieval equivalent of nuclear warfare. As the war between Team Black and Team Green rages on, and new dragon riders come into play, it's time to recap every dragon...

The early 2010s are often hailed as a modern golden age of television where TV episodic content was constantly reaching new heights of cinematic brilliance. One of the vanguards of this movement was undoubtedly Game of Thrones, which became one of the most watched and critically acclaimed shows throughout its eight seasons.
But despite the craze surrounding the series, not every part of its epic saga was well-received. Today marks the fifth anniversary of one of the most controversial episodes of Game of Thrones in its eighth and final season, titled “The Long Night.” Naturally, fans took to social media to mark the occasion and express their support and/or poke fun at the ways in which the episode fell short of expectations.

What fans witnessed in the final season of Game of Thrones was not something to cherish for the makers of the beloved show. Many fans especially felt the lack of action from Ghost, Jon Snow’s loyal direwolf, and more so from the Night King.
The Night King from Game of Thrones
In a podcast interview, director Miguel Sapochnik, known for directing key episodes like Hardhome, Battle of the Bastards, talked about the expansive approach of The Long Night. And that revelation came as a surprise, especially considering the scale of the episode’s structural design.
Suggested“Should not be done”: Fans Accuse Game of Thrones of Milking Money as New Spin off Becomes the Last Thing They Want
Speaking about the role of the Night King, Sapochnik revealed that the leader of the White Walkers was originally intended to play a more prominent role in The Long Night.

In 2007, Stitcher was founded in San Francisco by Noah Shanok, Mike Ghaffary and Peter DeVroede.
It was ahead of its time - and wasn't even an app when it launched. Here's a demo of Stitcher Radio, running in a web browser in July 2008, before the Apple App Store happened:

Originally, the app was a news-based internet radio service. It was known as "Stitcher Radio" for many years. It pulled a number of different audio sources into the app, and gave listeners a continuous audio stream - "stitching" them together.
It made iOS and Android apps, but was also integrated into 50 different car models, as well as being a launch partner for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
By 2009, the company was promoting "Stitcher Radio for the iPhone and Blackberry", with "over a thousand shows to pick from":

When it was announced that HBO was looking to expand the “Game of Thrones” franchise past the original series, people were skeptical. However, after the false start of “The Long Night” pilot that was scrapped, the network hit it big (bigger than people were probably expecting) with “House of the Dragon.” Now, fans (and investors) are anxious to find out what HBO has up its sleeve for the next spinoff.

HBO is poised to return to Westeros for another series.
Variety reported Monday that a prequel about Aegon I Targaryen's conquest of Westeros is in the discussion stages.
The outlet stresses that the potential series is only being discussed at this stage.
As a result, no writer is currently attached.
On a more exciting note, sources state that there may be a feature component to the project, i.e., HBO and Warner Bros. would produce a feature film that would then lead into the potential series."
A big-screen movie in the Game of Thrones universe would surely be a draw with fans.
The potential project would also serve as a prequel to House of the Dragon, which tells the story of the downfall of House Targaryen.
The latest project would explore the story of how Aegon and his sister-wives, Visenya and Rhaenys, used their fleet and their three dragons to...

Though you’ll undoubtedly forget many times while you’re watching it, Prime Video’s music drama Daisy Jones & The Six is not based on a true story. At least, not really. Adapted from Taylor Jenkins Reid’s novel of the same name, this series about the titular band was inspired by the real life drama of classic ’70s rock group Fleetwood Mac.
While Fleetwood Mac is very much real (and great!), Daisy Jones & The Six is not real (though also great!). Still, that does not make the Behind the Music-esque drama they experience in these 10 episodes feel any less real. Contributing to that sense of verisimilitude is that the cast of Daisy Jones & The Six all fit their roles to a tee.
Aside from the series two eminently recognizable leads (and a bit of Raylan Givens thrown in there for good measure), this series enjoys the...

Three-time Grammy winner Cécile McLorin Salvant will team with French studio Miyu Productions and Belgian animator Lia Bertels on “Ogresse,” a wry and irreverent fairytale inspired by a narrative performance piece the musician has toured since 2019.
Described as a murder ballad set to a jazz tempo, the animated musical will hit tragicomic notes as it follows a forest-dwelling ogress, ostracized because of her physical difference and pursued by a young hunter determined to claim her heart in either love or combat. Salvant and Bertels — one a lauded vocalist and one a festival acclaimed auteur – will co-direct, marking their joint feature debut adapting the show for the big screen.
“‘Ogresse’ is a love story inspired by my own experiences,” says Cécile McLorin Salvant. “It explores self-love and beauty ideals with a brave, complex, sometimes cruel and always endearing heroine. It will be an eclectic, dense, rich, and genderless film that will...

When "Game of Thrones" aired its climactic eighth season episode, "The Long Night," the response from fans wasn't exactly what the show's creators might have expected. Instead of cheering for Arya Stark's big moment or mourning the deaths of the characters who didn't make it through the battle for Winterfell, fans were caught up on something else entirely: How darn dark it all was.

Miguel Sapochnik will step down as co-showrunner on House of the Dragon after Season 1. Pic credit: ©ImageCollect.com/F. Sadou/AdMedia
While HBO has recently renewed its epic fantasy series, House of the Dragon, for a second season, it appears one of the co-showrunners will not be returning in Season 2.
Miguel Sapochnik signed up as co-showrunner on its prequel series alongside Ryan Condal, and they have worked together on Season 1, which is currently airing on HBO.
Sapochnik is probably best known for his work on Game of Thrones, where he helped produce some of the most iconic battle scenes in the series.
Most notably, he directed Hardhome, The Battle of the Bastards, and The Long Night, all of which showcased large battle scenes.
In addition to this, he also directed The Bells, which was the final battle sequence in the original series and saw Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) completely flip...

There was a great deal of excitement -- and apprehension -- going into the series premiere of House of the Dragon.
As a spinoff of Game of Thrones, which had one of the most polarizing final seasons ever, there were certainly concerns about whether the series would be as big as its predecessor.
House of the Dragon Season 1 Episode 1 got off to a high-flying start with just under 10 million total viewers across linear and HBO Max platforms in the U.S. on Sunday.
The number makes House of the Dragon the biggest premiere for any new series in the history of the premium cabler.
“It was wonderful to see millions of Game of Thrones fans return with us to Westeros last night. House of the Dragon features an incredibly talented cast and crew who poured their heart and soul into the production, and we’re ecstatic with viewers’ positive response,...

Has there ever been a season of television quite like the final outing of HBO’s blockbuster Game of Thrones? After 73 episodes, it came to its conclusion in 2019 with a storyline that broke both the monopoly of praise from critics and, seemingly, the sanity of viewers. At the time of writing, a petition entitled “Remake Game of Thrones season eight with competent writers” has 1.8 million signatories, but while fans won’t be getting a do-over any time soon, they are getting a handsomely mounted, Targaryen-centric prequel, in the form of House of the Dragon.
Miguel Sapochnik, the British director who cut his teeth in Game of Thrones’ two biggest fight episodes, “Battle of the Bastards” and “The Long Night”, is handed the showrunning reins for House of the Dragon, alongside Westeros newcomer Ryan Condal. Sapochnik’s promotion should indicate the direction House of the Dragon is headed: bigger, bolder, bloodier.

Fantasy films and television have been the basis for some of the most memorable scores in history, and more are on display with the debuts of “She-Hulk: Attorney at Law” this week and “House of the Dragon” on Sunday.
Disney+ and HBO are, for the most part, keeping a lid on music until the shows premiere, but Variety got a preview of both from the composers themselves.
“I feel like every composer wants to, at some stage, write that big action-adventure score and get to work with an orchestra,” says Amie Doherty, composer of “She-Hulk,” the Marvel series with Tatiana Maslany as a lawyer who can also turn into a giant green-skinned super-being.
Doherty, the Irish-born composer who recently scored the animated “Spirit Untamed” and orchestrated many episodes of “Star Trek: Discovery” and “The Umbrella Academy,” has secretly been toiling on “She-Hulk” for the past year.

When House of the Dragon first premieres on Aug. 21 on HBO, Game of Thrones fans should find a lot of it quite familiar. Just like the flagship series upon which it’s spun off from, House of the Dragon is a big endeavor. The show features a sprawling cast of King’s Landing schemers, tons of twists and turns, and more dragons than the side of a 1970s panel van.
If anything, House of the Dragon could end up feeling as epic or more so than Game of Thrones despite adapting a smaller section of George R.R. Martin’s source material. Interestingly enough, however, the showrunner behind it originally had a much smaller, more intimate vision of Martin’s Westeros.
House of the Dragon showrunner Ryan Condal (formerly of Colony and Rampage) has a lengthy history with George R.R. Martin’s epic novels.

Steve Toussaint stars as Corlys Velaryon in Episode 1 of House of the Dragon Season 1. Pic credit: HBO/Ollie Upton
In House of the Dragon, Steve Toussaint will portray Corlys Velaryon, the head of a very wealthy and powerful house.
He has many names, including Lord of the Tides, Master of Driftmark, but many readers of George R. R. Martin’s works will know him as the Sea Snake.
Known as an excellent seafarer, the character has managed to travel to many parts of Westeros by ship, including Lys, Tyrosh, Pentos, Myr, Volantis, Braavos, Eastwatch-by-the-Sea, Hardhome, Lorath, and the Port of Ibben. Thanks to these voyages, he amassed a huge amount of wealth, which helped him to establish his family.
He also attempted to travel around the northern tip of Westeros, taking his ship beyond the wall but could not find a way around via the Shivering Sea.

We won’t know for sure until it premieres on August 21 but, on paper at least, HBO’s House of the Dragon is the ideal Game of Thrones prequel concept. The series, which will depict the massive Targaryen Civil War known as the Dance of the Dragons, has just about every element you’d be looking for in a Thrones followup.
Like its parent series before it, the story at the center of House of the Dragon once again focuses on family, power, and the contradictory interplay between those two concepts. If it follows the blueprint set forth by writer George R.R. Martin in his Westerosi history book Fire & Blood, this dance of the dragons will come along with plenty of violence, courtly intrigue, and dragons…oh, so many dragons.
It’s fitting that House of the Dragon is the first of many Game of Thrones spinoff projects to make it onto HBO’s servers.

The Game of Thrones spin-off Bloodmoon cost 30 million to make, and yet it will never see the light of day. In the lead-up to Game of Thrones' conclusion after eight seasons, HBO was eager to expand on the world. And Bloodmoon, which was set during a period in Westeros history called The Long Night, was the first prequel HBO ordered a pilot for. "A lot of the pilot revolved around a wedding of a Southern house to a Northern house," George R.R. Martin told The Hollywood Reporter, "and it got into the whole history of the White Walkers." HBO Executive Vice President Francesca Orsi noted that the network was intrigued by the pilot, describing it as "different,...

Stuntperson Casey Michaels is suing “Game of Thrones” producers over a serious ankle injury sustained during the filming of the eighth season Battle of Winterfell scene in 2018.
Michaels, who is seeking nearly 5 million, suffered a “serious fracture dislocation to her left ankle” after jumping from a height of approximately 12 feet, according to court documents seen by Variety.
The lawsuit, which was originally filed in January 2021, names Fire & Blood Productions, an HBO-owned subsidiary based in London. HBO did not immediately respond to TheWrap’s request for comment.
Michaels was dressed as a Wight — undead pawns controlled by White Walkers — and was filming a scene in the episode “The Long Night” that required her to climb the castle battlements and walk off a roof along with her fellow Wights.
According to court documents, a group of 28 stunt performers were instructed to walk off the roof, which was around 12 feet high, “as if unaware of the drop,...

HBO has finally rounded out the main cast for its long-anticipated "Game of Thrones" prequel, "House of the Dragon." The series, which is set 200 years before the events of "Game of Thrones," is based on author George R.R. Martin's 2019 novel "Fire & Blood" and will follow the story of House Targaryen. The five major actors who have been tapped as the lead characters are Paddy Considine, Olivia Cooke, Matt Smith, Emma D'Arcy, and Steve Toussaint. Other additions to the cast include Ryan Corr, Graham McTavish, Jefferson Hall, Matthew Needham, David Horovitch, Bill Paterson, and Gavin Spokes.
Smith opened up about his role on the show in 2021. On the Happy Sad Confused podcast, he said that his role is "an interesting and dark and disturbed part to play." Even scarier than his character, he said, is his dragon, Caraxes. "He's big and red and angry," Smith said. "He's a really angry dragon.

As The Long Night opens Grace and her boyfriend Jack are hanging out in their NYC apartment. She’s not a native New Yorker though, she’s from the South. Exactly where is a bit of a mystery, as she never knew her family. So when she gets a call from Frank saying he has a promising lead on her ancestry they drive down to see him. Thankfully he told her where he hides his spare key because when they arrive he’s nowhere to be found.
It doesn’t take long before they’re seeing strange altar-like things in the woods and strange figures in the distance. And snakes that seem to appear and disappear. Jack has the good sense to realize something is very wrong and decides they’re leaving,...

In director Rich Ragsdale’s The Long Night, Scout Taylor-Compton stars as a woman engaged to a rich city lad (Nolan Gerard Funk) and on the threshold of a much larger life than she could have imagined growing up in a Deep South orphanage. She’s long been trying to learn who her birth parents were, and as the film opens she gets her first solid lead, requiring the couple to drive to the investigator’s isolated house in the boonies. What could possibly go wrong?
Upon arrival, their host is missing but he’d left the key for them with permission to settle in. A few things start to feel a bit hinky, including the intrusion of a couple of large snakes. But once the sun sets, the real mayhem starts to kick in.

Can't a dewy-eyed couple just escape for a few days of lowkey fun without being hunted down by a cult or psycho murderer? Is nothing sacred anymore?! It's hard not to feel bad for the couple at the center of Well Go USA's new horror flick "The Long Night," but in all fairness, they should probably know better.
