The primary location is the oldest standing wooden structure in South Carolina. The house was built by British Colonist, before the United States of America was established in 1776.
The star-like symbol seen throughout the movie is actually a symbol of "Thelema", which, while considered occult in nature, is largely antithetical to the kind of rituals or antagonistic practices seen here.
