911: Lone Star finally answered who killed Carlos’ father and it wasn’t what fans expected!

Throughout Season 5 of 911: Lone Star, Carlos has been haunting who was responsible for the murder of her father last year. He’d been partnering with Ranger Campbell, and Episode 8 had Carlos rocked when a dying crook revealed his dad had suspected someone in the Rangers of selling info on undercover cops and informants to cartels…and that Campbell was the guy.

Did Campbell kill Carlos' dad in 911: Lone Star?

Carlos brought his suspicions to Chief Bridges, who did some checking and told Carlos that records showed Campbell had accessed all those files on murdered cops and informants. The pair went to Campbell’s home to meet his wife, Ashley (Peyton List). They found $100,000 in his safe and were ready to bring Campbell in.

Though it seemed his new partner Campbell (Parker Young) sold out criminal informants and then killed Gabriel Reyes, he was actually set up by Chief Bridges (Alan Autry).

Campbell then saved Carlos’ life, taking out Chief Bridges during a standoff with the Rangers.

Making Chief Bridges the one who killed Gabriel goes back to Season 4, co-showrunner Rashad Raisani explained to TV Insider.

“We realized quickly that Alan Autry was gold, and so we really wanted to give him as much interesting stuff as possible,” he said, adding that they researched real-life police and saw that high-level DEA agents were giving tips to attorneys for cartels.

“I was like, wow, what a very specific and interesting form of corruption,” he said.

The pieces are quickly clicking into place as 9-1-1: Lone Star comes closer to its swan song.

And it seems 9-1-1: Lone Star Season 5 Episode 9 was intent on wrapping up the case of Gabriel Reyes’ murder and finally elaborating on Judd’s drinking issue.

Also, we can anticipate where Owen will find himself by the end of the series.

When you have a series like this coming to a close in a mostly unexpected way, what results is a bunch of storytelling that can seem sporadic with the sole purpose of getting us to the finish line of completion.

The series finale of “9-1-1: Lone Star” will be “apocalyptic,” showrunner Rashad Raisani told TheWrap ahead of the Fox show’s final few episodes. In fact, he said it will be like “Chernobyl” meets “The Last of Us.”

“We wanted to go out with a gigantic bang,” Raisani teased. “Actually, multiple bangs, as a matter of fact.”

The fifth and final season opened with a cataclysmic train derailment that unleashed a toxic chemical cloud: The first responders miraculously survived that, as they have numerous other disasters, but Raisani said that the crew of the 126 — led by Captain Owen Strand (Rob Lowe) — probably won’t be so lucky as the “9-1-1” spinoff comes to a close.

Season 5 of 9-1-1: Lone Star is in full swing, with less than a handful of episodes until the series finale.

Fox has announced its midseason schedule, which kicks off on Jan. 2 with a new Thursday night comedy block.

Following an 8 pm lead-in with Gordon Ramsay’s Hell’s Kitchen, Joel McHale’s hit comedy Animal Control launches its third season at 9 pm, following Denis Leary workplace comedy Going Dutch at 9:30 pm.

Gordon Ramsay’s Season 4 premiere of Next Level Chef will take over the 8 pm Hell’s Kitchen slot on Thursday, Feb. 13 followed by Animal Control and Going Dutch.

The series debut of Fox’s new medical drama Doc is set for Tuesday, Jan. 7 at 9 pm. It stars Molly Parker (House of Cards) as the hard-charging, brilliant Chief of Internal Medicine Dr. Amy Larsen, who suffers a brain injury that erases the last eight years of her memory. Doc’s lead-in, Kitchen Nightmares: Road to Super Bowl Lix airs at 8 pm with episodes leading up to The Big Game set in New Orleans.

Fox has changed up its post-Super Bowl plans.

The network will the season three premiere of its game show The Floor after Super Bowl Lix on Feb. 9, giving the Rob Lowe-hosted series the biggest possible U.S. audience to kick off its next installment. The Floor replaces first-year drama Rescue: Hi-Surf, which Fox announced would have the post-Super Bowl showcase when the network unveiled its 2024-25 slate in May.

Rescue: Hi-Surf will likely still get heavy promotion during the Super Bowl (as it did during the World Series), and what the network is billing as “a special episode” of the series is set to run the day after the NFL title game, Feb. 10.

Fox has also set the rest of its midseason debuts. The third season of Animal Control will premiere Jan. 2, pairing with the Denis Leary-led comedy Going Dutch on Thursday nights. Medical drama Doc is set to premiere Jan.

As Col. Patrick Quinn trades in strict drills for lavender-infused laundry, he will try to reinstate some sense of professionalism. The series also stars Taylor Misiak, Danny Pudi, Laci Mosley and Hal Cumpston.

911: Lone Star fans are still adjusting to how this will be the final season for the Fox rescue drama. It has had major turns like Grace departing on a missionary job, Judd returning to the station now as a probie, Paul being promoted to lieutenant, some marriage issues between Tk and Carlos, and Owen handling helping his brother die with dignity.

911 has become a steady hit with six seasons on Fox before it was surprisingly canceled by the network. More surprising was that at the same time, the show moved to ABC. It's rare for a show already an established hit to jump networks like this, but so far, it's paid dividends for 911. 

With ABC's much higher budgets, the show can afford bigger events like Season 7's cruise ship disaster and Season 8's "Beenado" and plane emergency. Season 7 was cut down to only ten episodes due to the 2023 Hollywood strikes while Season 8 looks to be a full 22 episodes.

A new 911 spin-off in the works

Sadly, 911: Lone Star is confirmed as ending with its current fifth season. The combination of lower ratings without the mothership 911 show and the big budget involved ended the spin-off while the original 911 is still going.

Exclusive: A new location has emerged as a leading contender to serve as backdrop for the anticipated second 9-1-1 spinoff in the works at ABC from Ryan Murphy and Tim Minear. According to sources, Hawaii is heating up as a potential setting for the offshoot, which, as Deadline reported earlier this month, has been picking up momentum after a lengthy gestational period. It is yet to be greenlighted.

During the gestational period, other places were considered to follow Los Angeles (9-1-1) and Austin (9-1-1: Lone Star), with Las Vegas at one point emerging as a favorite.
