Daniel Craig is best known for his role as Agent 007 in the James Bond films. Starting with 2006’s Casino Royale, the actor played the role for fifteen years, ending his tenure with 2021’s No Time To Die. The actor was reportedly happy to exit the role and has since starred in Knives Out and will be seen in the upcoming Queer.
However, one film reportedly trumped his horror at playing Bond repeatedly. The actor spoke about the early scenes that director David Fincher showed from their collaboration The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Craig mentioned that he was horrified at the visuals and could not believe the free rein he got from the studio.

Exclusive: The upcoming Abba feature, which will air on 14 broadcasters including the BBC and CW, is an attempt to give the global superstars the Asif Kapadia-style doc treatment for the first time while combatting “Anglo-American” snobbery, according to its director.
James Rogan said previous docs about Abba have been “lovely, full of joy and in the style of the arts programing of the late nineties and noughties,” while his team wanted to hand the show a modern narrative treatment, seen in the work of auteurs like Amy and Senna director Kapadia.
Produced by Rogan Productions, Abba: Against the Odds is a documentary first in that it has been funded by 14 broadcasters including the BBC, CW and Scandinavian networks to help take on the might of the streamers, organized under the auspices of the European Broadcasting Union (Ebu), which runs Eurovision. After 12 seasons on linear TV, flagship Spanish talent show “Operación Triunfo,” produced by Banijay Iberia’s Gestmusic, has jumped successfully to the online environment via Prime Video.
“Operación Triunfo’s” first gala was the most viewed premiere in the history of Prime Video in Spain. Its app for voting accumulated 53 million votes and, on social networks, generated 718.9 million views in TikTok and YouTube, according to VOD analytics Sigmados30.
Since 2021, when Netflix teamed with Grupo iZen to launch “Insiders,” the streamer’s first Spanish Original reality show, the demand of unscripted content on the online platforms has been progressively increasing.
“Entertainment can be more cost effective for streamers than producing fiction,” argues iZen president Jose Velasco, who years ago produced the Spanish version of “Big Brother.”

Spoiler Alert: This post contains some details of Netflix’s 3 Body Problem, set for an eight-episode launch on the streamer March 21.
“Why should I get bent out of shape about what the world might look like 400 years from now,” physics research assistant Saul Durand (Jovan Adepo) says flippantly in Netflix’s 3 Body Problem. “I have no control over that.”
The sentiment of those words landed hard on me, because that’s almost exactly how I felt about the bloated and often remarkably boring big-budget sci-fi series from Game of Thrones creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, and True Blood producer Alexander Woo.
Premiering Friday night at SXSW in Austin’s Paramount Theatre, Netflix’s much-hyped series is based on the Hugo Award-winning writings of Cixin Liu. Set to launch with eight episodes worldwide almost everywhere but Liu’s native China on March 21, the fact is 3 Body Problem...

Filmmaker Edward Zwick, whose credits include About Last Night, Glory, Legends of the Fall, The Siege, The Last Samurai, Blood Diamond, Defiance, Love & Other Drugs, Pawn Sacrifice, and Jack Reacher: Never Go Back (not to mention co-creating Thirtysomething), recently published a memoir called Hits, Flops, and Other Illusions: My Fortysomething Years in Hollywood (pick up a copy Here). This book contains some very interesting passages – like the one on Zwick’s Jack Reacher regrets, and another where he reveals how impressed Denzel Washington was by Matt Damon’s performance when they were on the set of Zwick’s 1996 film Courage Under Fire.
Zwick wrote, “As we finished Matt’s coverage, Denzel caught my eye and nodded approvingly. Later, he took me aside. ‘Who is that kid?’ he asked. I told him it was Matt’s first big role. ‘Damn,’ he said. ‘Better get my game on. He almost blew me off the screen.

Denis Villeneuve’s Dune: Part Two has exceeded all expectations and delivered a narratively satisfying sequel that is thrilling and ambitious. The director did not fall into the sequel trap and successfully elevated the narrative of the Dune lore that was established with the first film. The ensemble cast contributed to the intensity and the emotional stakes of the story.
Denis Villeneuve’s Dune: Part Two is now the number 1 film at the box office
The film has done incredibly well at the box office and audiences can’t get enough of the film and are going multiple times to experience it again. A new trailer for a game based on the Dune universe titled Dune: Awakening recently revealed its trailer. Unlike Dune 2, fans are not impressed with the look of the game and called it a cash-grab effort.

The Witcher: Blood Origin is a 4 episode miniseries created by Lauren Schmidt and starring Michelle Yeoh, Sophia Brown and Laurence O’Fuarain.
The prequel to the series The Witcher that is now streaming, and sends the clear message: life carries on after Henry Cavil.
We still do not know how the fans will receive it, but in this mini-series, there are some spectacular fight scenes that very nimbly, and perhaps too often, have melodramatic moments.
Brutal and wild, nostalgic, captivating, ‘The Witcher: Blood Origin’ is a prequel that serves a foretaste for what is to come, though, truth be told, something has changed forever in The Witcher.
Synopsis
More than a thousand years before the world of The Witcher, seven outcasts in the elven world unite in a blood quest against an unstoppable power.

There’s no getting around it: talking about representation in movies these days is a sticky, tricky subject. But is it Ok to admit that when Michelle Williams rattles off a “dahlink” to her brood and Anthony Hopkins instructs his grandson to “be a mensch” in his Welsh brogue, things are a little weird, nu?
There are many examples of what Sarah Silverman called “Jewface” on her podcast last year.
We’ve watched Adam Driver go hard in “BlacKkKlansman” and Rachel Brosnahan bring that shiksa sparkle to “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.” In “Shiva Baby,” the biggest surprise is that Dianna Agron is Jewish and Rachel Sennott is not. There’s also Steve Carrell in “The Patient,” Rachel McAdams in “Disobedience,” Felicity Jones in “On the Basis of Sex,” almost everyone in “Transparent,” Oscar Isaac in “Scenes from a Marriage,” Helen Mirren in “Golda,” and Daniel Craig in “Defiance.”

"No Time to Die" couldn't have made it more clear that Daniel Craig has hung his Walther Ppk up for good. The mantle of James Bond, which Craig had held since 2006 with "Casino Royale," is open to go to someone else, but that only gives the "Layer Cake" actor more of an opportunity to branch out even further. Craig's versatility as an actor has single-handedly shielded him from befalling the fate of being typecast as 007. Just look at the success of "Knives Out," for instance.
Rian Johnson's quick-witted whodunnit became the smash hit sensation of the 2019 holiday season. A large reason why it was so revered was because of Craig's charismatic presence as the perceptive Benoit Blanc. At that point, it was only a matter of time until Johnson and Craig teamed up again to make a series of films with this character at the forefront. Thankfully, we...

Bel Powley, Liev Schreiber, and Joe Cole are set to lead the limited drama series “A Small Light” at Disney Plus, Variety has learned.
The eight-episode National Geographic series tells the true story of Miep Gies (Powley), who played a critical role in hiding Anne Frank and her family from the Nazis.
20-something secretary Gies didn’t hesitate when her boss Otto Frank (Schreiber) asked her to hide him and his family during World War II. For the next two years, Miep, her husband Jan (Cole) and several other everyday heroes watched over the eight souls hiding in the secret annex. It was Miep who found Anne’s diary and preserved it so that she and Otto could later share it with the world.

Astrid and Lilly got hit with a big slap of betrayal with the Guardian on his way to destroy everything.
In Astrid and Lilly Save the World Season 1 Episode 2, we theorized that Brutus was hiding much of the truth from the girls.
Shortly after that, we dumped that theory because we saw how his relationship evolved with the duo to something akin to family.
Sadly, our original theories were correct: Brutus was hiding something this whole time.
Brutus admitted to stretching the truth with everything while acknowledging that he provided them with the wrong orb.

Strong viewership is certainly not alien to “Resident Alien,” but the show’s Season 2 premiere was Syfy’s second-most-watched telecast since 2015.
Syfy’s most-watched episode of TV over that roughly eight-year time span was “Resident Alien” Episode 106, so, Episode 201 is in pretty familiar — and rarified — company.
Including one week of delayed viewing, the Jan. 26, 2022 “Resident Alien” Season 2 premiere was watched by 3.2 million total viewers. That’s up 5% from the Season 1 premiere, another rarity on television these days.
Among adults 18-49, the premiere vs. premiere increase was 2%. Growth (on a percentage basis) was the same in the adults 25-54 demographic.
“Resident Alien” Season 1 averaged 2.917 million total viewers per episode. That made “Resident Alien” Syfy’s most-watched new drama in nearly eight years — or since the first season of “Defiance” averaged 3.224 million viewers in 2013.

“Resident Alien” Season 1 ratings were into the stratosphere, for Syfy at least. The first Season 2 episode of the Alan Tudyk alien-comedy beamed down to Earth’s TV screens on Wednesday, but we won’t get Nielsen numbers for a few days. But last year’s Season 1 was out of this world, with an average of 2.917 million total viewers, a Nielsen number that includes seven days of delayed viewing per episode. That made “Resident Alien” Syfy’s most-watched new drama in nearly eight years — or since the first season of “Defiance” averaged 3.224 million viewers way back in 2013. Have a look back at the Top 10 Syfy originals seasons since the “Defiance” days via the below chart. No show since 2014, aside from “Resident Alien,” even made the list. Half of the list is comprised by “Defiance” and the “Face/Off” film-to-tv adaptation. Over these past eight years, no other series has had multiple...

Seasoned Finnish writer-director-producer Aku Louhimies is plotting multi-season TV drama “Conflict,” a near-future political action thriller that turns on a Finland threatened by an unknown military force.
Comparing the project to high-profile Norwegian TV show “Occupied,” the director said he had the idea for “Conflict” after his war epic “Unknown Soldier,” Finland’s record-breaking movie with over 1 million ticket sales. “I started thinking what if Finland was suddenly threatened by foreign forces. The films in the running for the 2021 Best Original Score Oscar are “Da 5 Bloods,” “Mank,” “Minari,” “News of the World,” and “Soul.” Our current odds indicate that “Soul” (31/10) will take the prize, followed in order by “Mank,” “Minari,” “News of the World,” and “Da 5 Bloods.”

Leading the field of top original scores of the year are dual nominees Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross, who won the Oscar for “The Social Network” a decade ago. Leading the field of top original scores of the year are dual nominees Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross, who won the Oscar for “The Social Network” a decade ago. The duo landed both Globe and Cca awards for their New Age score for Pete Docter’s Pixar feature “Soul” — with help from jazz musician Jon Batiste — as well as a second Oscar nod for the very different Bernard Herrmann-tinged orchestral score for David Fincher’s “Mank” (Netflix).

When eight-time Oscar nominee James Newton Howard begins a new project, there is one dictum he tries to follow: “There are no rules.”
Never did that philosophy seem more appropriate than for his latest film, Paul Greengrass’ “News of the World.” Post-production work on the Western, which shot in the fall of 2019, happened during the coronavirus pandemic, forcing Howard to utilize remote production techniques and social distancing measures to record the film’s score. Luckily, Howard tells Gold Derby, necessity was the mother of invention.

“We oftentimes had to do performances twice just to get the numbers, so it really felt like 80 people playing instead of just 40,” he says of recording the score with musicians appropriately spaced at London’s Abbey Road studio. “In another way, I think you gained a certain kind of personality in the score because you can hear individuals.

Composers Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross have been nominated at the Golden Globes for every David Fincher film they’ve worked on, winning for “The Social Network” (2010) and earning bids for “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” (2011), “Gone Girl” (2014) and now “Mank.” The dynamic duo is also nominated this year for their “Soul” score, where they share composing credit with Jon Batiste. This means Reznor and Ross are the first composers in the 21st century to earn two Golden Globe nominations for Best Original Score in the same year. Taking up two of the five slots in the category, the question now becomes whether they can win for one of them, or if HFPA voters will be more dazzled by other composers’ scores.

As a mid-range games studio Rebellion has never exactly made major waves in the market. They seem content to limp along with the basically competent ‘Sniper Elite’ series and the occasional oddity such as ‘Strange Brigade’. As a publisher though they’ve stood out thanks to their ’90s era pop punk attitude and continued ownership of Judge Dredd. So the news that they were to expand into a film and television studio was an exciting prospect and made their debut feature one to watch. Sadly though, if School’s Out Forever is any indication, we shouldn’t hold out hope for a stunning follow-up to 2012’s Dredd anytime soon.
No, School’s Out Forever is a hot mess of a film. A tonally imbalanced, badly scripted attempt at the kind of anarchic action fare that makes up Rebellion’s typical output. Set at an elite private school the film focuses on a...

The awards season for musical achievement became a little clearer this morning with the Hollywood Foreign Press Association’s Golden Globe announcements for song and score.
Films about major African-American personalities dominated the song category, with new tunes from “One Night in Miami,” “Judas and the Black Messiah” and “The United States vs. Billie Holiday” accounting for three of the five slots. And, intriguingly, four of the five song nominees are from streaming services, not traditional studios.
Also, following Globes tradition, major stars as both performers and writers were named. Odom and Day each managed to score double nominations, as both were also nominated for their acting performances in those films — Odom as crooner Sam Cooke in “One Night in Miami,” Day as blues singer Holiday in “The United States vs. Billie Holiday.”
Most of the song nominees are first-timers at the Globes. But three are previous nominees: Diane Warren...

This April, Rebellion Publishing’s 2000 Ad moves beyond the sci-fi genre that has been the mainstay of the iconic title since its late 1970s launch with the release of Thistlebone, a collection of the folk horror strip by T.C. Eglington and Simon Davis.
Described by Rebellion as “Midsommar meets The Wicker Man,” the strip — which originally ran in 2000 Ad last year — centers around the cult hidden in the heart of a rural English village that wants to escape the modern world and return to simpler ways… while also worshipping an ancient deity that demands human sacrifice.
