Leonardo DiCaprio has been a Hollywood giant since he appeared in two breakout roles in 1993. The actor accepted roles in What's Eating Gilbert Grape? and This Boy's Life. Gilbert Grape helped DiCaprio earn his first Academy Award nomination, and it would be the first of many. After all, he has enjoyed critical renown since the early days of his career. Through today, the actor has earned seven Oscar nominations, while bringing home one win for Best Actor in The Revenant.
It is hard to overstate the renown that DiCaprio's career has received. He starred in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood (2019), The Wolf of Wall Street (2013), Inception (2010), The Great Gatsby (2013), Django Unchained (2012), Killers of the Flower Moon (2024), and more. With such a prestigious career, DiCaprio has ushered in over $7 billion at the box office, and his career is far from over. DiCaprio's best movies are filled with romance, mystery, and acclaim.

Throughout the 2010s, and lingering into the 2020s, massive, corporate-backed I.P. has dominated both the domestic box office and the American journalistic conversation about cinema in general. We live in a world where reporters, when they had an opportunity to sit down with Martin Scorsese to discuss new masterworks like "The Silence" or "The Wolf of Wall Street," decided to ask him about Captain America and his place in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Vocal subverters of the dominant paradigm repeatedly yawped that Hollywood should devote more time and resources to new ideas. After all, why be the next "Star Wars" when you can be the first of something different? Where, oh where were the original sci-fi/fantasy ideas?
But then, when an ambitious filmmaker tries to make something new and striking for a broad cinematic audience, it generally tanks. It seemed that audiences were more eager to attach themselves to...

Did Margot Robbie insist on going nude in Wolf Of Wall Street? ( Photo Credit – Instagram )
Yes, she went all in for the movie and, that included insisting on going fully nude in a pivotal scene, despite director Martin Scorsese offering her a robe. Why? Authenticity.
Robbie played Naomi Lapaglia, the sultry, high-heeled Brooklyn bombshell who becomes the second wife of Jordan Belfort (Leonardo DiCaprio). For Robbie, this was her defining moment. But behind all the glitz, glam, and, uh, strategically placed tea, was an actor determined to stay true to her character.
When Naomi first seduces Jordan, it’s a no-holds-barred power move. Robbie insisted that the scene, which shows her wearing nothing but stockings and heels, was vital to Naomi’s persona. Speaking to The Telegraph, she explained, “The whole point of Naomi is that her body is her only form of currency in this world. So when Marty...

Was Leonardo DiCaprio glad that he didn’t win an Oscar early on? (Photo Credit – Prime Video)
Yes, you read it right. “I really didn’t want to win because just the fact you have such an expectation on you at that time, people almost want you to be perfect in everything you do,” DiCaprio alluded in a 2016 interview with Time Out. “If you’re not, then it’s almost like, ‘Ok, get him out of here; he was lucky once, and now we’re done with him.”
He had a point. Winning young could’ve boxed him in. Instead, it pushed Leonardo DiCaprio to evolve with each role, avoiding typecasting. Fast forward to 2016, after Inception, The Wolf of Wall Street, and Blood Diamond, and he finally grabbed that Oscar for The Revenant—his fourth nomination, and he was ready.

Margot Robbie just revealed the downside to filming that Wolf of Wall Street cash scene. Despite the glam, she had “a million paper cuts.” It turns out that fake money is way more complicated than it looks—not a sexy souvenir.
“Real money is a bit softer, but the fake money is like paper,” Robbie explained in a 2017 interview with The Daily Beast. “I got a million paper cuts on my back from all that money! It’s not as glamorous as it sounds.” As if that wasn’t enough, Robbie revealed the aftermath. “When I got off the bed and turned around to get my robe, everyone gasped,” she recalled. “I said, ‘What is it?’ And they said, ‘You look like you’ve been whipped a million times. Your back is covered in a thousand red scratches.'” Ouch!

Did Leonardo DiCaprio’s agent try to rename him Lenny? (Photo Credit – Facebook)
Back in the nineties, before DiCaprio’s Titanic fame, he was just a young actor trying to make a name for himself. When he first went to land an agent, they weren’t quite feeling the whole “Leonardo DiCaprio” vibe. So, they came up with something they thought was a better fit for Hollywood—Lenny Williams. Lenny Williams?! Yep. That’s the name the agent thought would make him a star.
Leo DiCaprio, clearly wiser than most 6-year-olds, wasn’t having any of it. “Well, the first time I got an agent… they wanted to change my name to Lenny Williams…” he confessed to a shocked David Letterman during an appearance on The Late Show. The name was their idea of something more “American,” apparently thinking his original name, “Leonardo Wilhelm DiCaprio,” was a little too “ethnic” for the big leagues.

Margot Robbie was almost cast in American Horror Story: Asylum? (Photo Credit – Instagram)
Back in 2012, Margot Robbie auditioned for American Horror Story: Asylum, the season packed with all things creepy and Emmy-worthy. But despite delivering an audition that made jaws drop, she didn’t land the role.
Casting director Eric Dawson spilled the beans on Backstage’s In the Envelope: The Actor’s Podcast, calling Robbie’s audition one of his “favorites of all time.” He said, “She was such a star. It was crazy, her star appeal when she walked in the room. Even though she didn’t get that role, you just knew—this is a star. What do we do with her?”
At that point, Margot was fresh off the short-lived Pan Am (2011–2012), where she played a 1960s stewardess—sadly, the show didn’t take off, but Robbie’s ambition was about to. With a fearless mindset,...

Martin Scorsese's The Wolf Of Wall Street is available on streaming for anyone who wants to catch the dark comedy biopic. Following the reviews that greeted his 1973 gangster movie Mean Streets, starring Harvey Keitel and Robert De Niro, Martin Scorsese would embark on an incredible filmmaking career. His filmography includes several crime dramas, some pulled from real-life events. One is The Wolf of Wall Street, which stars Leonardo DiCaprio as New York stockbroker Jordan Belfort.
The Wolf of Wall Street depicts Belfort's corrupt business practices and gleefully hedonistic lifestyle, including drugs and orgies. DiCaprio earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor for his performance, and the cast also included Margot Robbie, Jonah Hill, Matthew McConaughey, and more. When the movie was released, it took a while before it dropped on any streaming service. However, once 2025 started, the movie was moved to a new streaming home for anyone to...

The Wolf of Wall Street is a Martin Scorsese black comedy based on Jordan Belfort's infamous tale of business fraud as a stockbroker. In The Wolf of Wall Street, Belfort (Leonardo DiCaprio) becomes a stockbroker and achieves a moderate level of financial success before losing his job in the 1988 Black Monday crash. He then founds the stock trading firm Stratton Oakmont, which quickly becomes a criminal enterprise as Belfort and his associates trick unsuspecting customers into investing in stocks without showing them the fine print.
Over its three-hour runtime, The Wolf of Wall Street follows the rise and fall of Stratton Oakmont and the wealth Jordan Belfort builds from it. It also chronicles Belfort's tumultuous romance with his wife, Naomi (Margot Robbie), and his increasingly out-of-control drug addiction. Belfort spends much of The Wolf of Wall Street barely keeping one step ahead of the FBI before finally being forced...

Good satire requires high intelligence on the part of the artist and the audience, and there are many satirical movies which have been accused of glorifying bad behavior. While this may sound like a deficiency on the part of the filmmakers, it's sometimes the case that their work has merely been misinterpreted by some people. Satire is never as effective if it's too blatant or preachy, so audiences often need to do some of the work.
Many great crime movie directors have been accused of glorifying their subjects, like Martin Scorsese, David Fincher and Guy Ritchie. This misunderstanding often comes from the fact that these directors find some redeemable qualities in their characters. Ultimately, this is meant to humanize and make crime seem like a human behavior rather than some abstract evil, but it's difficult to strike the right balance between doing this and glorifying the criminal lifestyle.

Best British Films of 2024: Is cinema dying? That’s the question on everybody’s lips in an age of plummeting box office figures and rising blockbuster budgets, hoping another spandex suit will be the silver bullet that fixes up enough ticket sales to fund another superhero flick. Martin Scorsese, Sam Mendes (The Franchise), Mathieu Kassovitz, and David Lynch are unanimous in their publicized belief that cinema is clutching its last breath on death’s door, but that doesn’t mean it’s gone completely. Film is a stubborn master, beloved by all and crowd surfing along the mighty few who still believe in storytelling for storytelling’s sake, rather than for profit.
Steve McQueen and Alice Lowe are just a couple of names on this list who still believe in the values of originality, creativity, authenticity, and artistry—in the power of real filmmaking. Let’s hope cinema can...

A billion-dollar Margot Robbie movie has found additional success on streaming. Robbie is an Australian actor who had her international breakthrough when she played a supporting role opposite Leonardo DiCaprio in Martin Scorsese's 2013 movie The Wolf of Wall Street. Since then, she has been nominated for three Oscars, one as a producer, and two as an actor for her performances in 2017's I, Tonya and 2019's Bombshell.
In addition to earning critical accolades, many Margot Robbie movies have become blockbuster hits. This includes the 2016 DC Comics adaptation Suicide Squad, in which she played iconic antihero Harley Quinn, which grossed $749.2 million against its reported budget of $175 million. While that was one of her biggest hits, other Robbie titles that have grossed more than $100 million include the 2021 sequel The Suicide Squad, Peter Rabbit, Focus, and Quentin Tarantino's Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood.

Margot Robbie might be one of the most sought-after names in Hollywood, but her involvement in titles like My Old Ass proves that she's also shining behind the camera. Despite not appearing in any 2024 movies, Robbie was still in the public eye, thanks to the lasting buzz from 2023's Barbie through Awards season. Even before Barbie released, Robbie had cemented herself as an A-lister, with three Academy Award nominations in the past six years alone. Robbie's breakout role, of course, came in Martin Scorsese's The Wolf of Wall Street.
While it's no surprise that Robbie is a force in front of the camera, some might not even be aware that she has a production company with her husband, Tom Ackerley. LuckyChap Entertainment was founded in 2014 and produced its first movie three years later with the release of I, Tonya, which notably starred Robbie. It's hard to think of a bigger, more critically acclaimed movie star than Leonardo DiCaprio, and his elite A-list status has built him a staggering 2024 net worth. DiCaprio first made a name for himself in dramas like What's Eating Gilbert Grape (1993) before rocketing to the top of the A-list with James Cameron's epic romance, Titanic, in 1997. After tons of awards nominations, his performance in 2015's The Revenant finally won DiCaprio his first Oscar. DiCaprio is also known for his collaborations with Martin Scorsese, with their last movie being Killers of the Flower Moon in 2023.
DiCaprio was born in Los Angeles, California to parents Irmelin and George, and is an only child. Bitten by the acting bug early, DiCaprio began acting at the age of 14, appearing in several commercials before breaking into television in the early '90s. Offscreen, the actor is famous for his series of romantic relationships, often involving significantly younger women.

Some movie experiences are so memorable that time flies even if it lasts hours. When the storytelling is strong enough and there's enough to say, it may feel like the movie should never end. Countless directors have taken on a project that produces an immense surplus of footage. From political dramas to historical epics, there are so many details to cover to tell the full story. But if the audience is emotionally involved enough, they'll want to stay with the protagonists for as long as possible.
Worth considering when it comes to runtime is that movie theaters today are struggling to bring people in. For a viewer to want to leave the comfort of their own home, with their own snacks and unlimited breaks, the film has to be something special. It needs to feel like an event that people will want to spend money on so they feel like...

This 2024 Holiday season, Netflix has boldly asked the question: What if Christmas was hot?
Every November and December sees the streamer provide audiences with plenty of Yuletide seasonal movies, often resembling the type of corny, predictable, low-budget yet undeniably soothing made-for-tv works that Hallmark and other cable TV competitors push out during the tail end of the year. There’s plenty of that this year, most notably Lindsay Lohan’s “Our Little Secret,” about a couple who break up only to reunite during a Christmas holiday when they discover their new partners are siblings.
But this year, the company has put a bit of spice in the egg nog, so to speak, with “Hot Frosty” and “The Merry Gentlemen” two movies that…also pretty neatly fit into the Hallmark and Lifetime Christmas movie formula, down to featuring the type of early 2000s teen film star that often headline this genre.

A sudden, severe global stock market crash shook the world of finance on October 19, 1987. Dubbed Black Monday, the crash caused widespread anxiety due to fears of unmitigable economic instability, even among those not well-versed with the nitty-gritties of finance. Soon after, "Wall Street" made its way into theaters and enlightened us regarding the lure of the stock market, along with the risks that lurked beneath its glamorous facade. This fictional depiction of 1980s Wall Street, right after the real-world crisis that frightened and baffled many, led to the inception of a fresh new genre. The finance film, which usually explores various facets of Wall Street culture, was born.
Many finance films managed to make a mark over the years, including 2015's "The Big Short" (which attempts to shed light on the early days of the 2008 financial crisis) and 2010's scathing documentary film, "Inside Job." If we aren't being too rigid...

Jonah Hill managed to pick up two Oscar nominations before his 30th birthday. It is a pretty impressive fete since the bulk of Hill’s early film work had been in outrageous comedies like “Superbad” and “21 Jump Street,” which seldom are recognized by Academy voters. He did take some serious roles in “Moneyball” and “The Wolf of Wall Street” which earned him those two nominations.
Hill started his career as a playwright. He wrote and performed a number of plays while he was attending The New School in New York City. Those plays led him to meeting the children of Dustin Hoffman who then got Hill an audition for a small role in “I Heart Huckabees.” That film lead him to associations with Seth Rogen and Judd Apatow, with whom he has worked a number of times. That led to work with Joel and Ethan Coen, Martin Scorsese and more.

Actor Jonah Hill, widely known for his roles in Superbad, 21 Jump Street, and The Wolf of Wall Street, has become a prominent advocate for body positivity. Hill’s journey to self-acceptance underscores the necessity for a body positivity movement that includes men—a demographic often excluded from the conversation.
While the actor was initially often typecast in stereotypical funny ‘fat guy’ roles, he has undergone a huge transformation in recent times. Still, the actor recently took to his Instagram to talk about his struggles, in response to the kind of media coverage that he often has to suffer with.

Tulsa King season 1 showrunner Terence Winter is no stranger to tales of fictional Mafiosos, but his next project will see him team with the director of the Equalizer movies on a true-life mob drama. Originally joining the writing room of The Sopranos in season 2 of HBO’s hit crime drama, Winter would also go on to create the prohibition era drama Boardwalk Empire, as well as pen Martin Scorsese’s critically acclaimed biopic The Wolf of Wall Street, for which he received his first Academy Award nomination.
While Winter opted to step down as showrunner on Tulsa King season 2, he still remains closely involved with the show as both a writer and executive producer.
Per a new report from Variety, Winter has now been tapped to write a new miniseries for FX based on the life of notorious New York mobster, Salvatore “Sammy the Bull” Gravano. Set to be directed...

Nicholas Pileggi, Aaron Kaplan of Kapital Entertainment, Billy Malone, J.J. Sacha, and Scott Greenberg and Rick Yorn of Lbi Entertainment will also executive produce. Before Margot Robbie locked down her real-life Ken, Margot had to play it cool while crushing hard on Tom Ackerley. Spoiler: she made her move, and the rest is a love story for the ages.
Flashback to 2013: Margot’s career was skyrocketing. She’d nailed her role in The Wolf of Wall Street (remember that flawless Brooklyn accent?) and was officially Hollywood’s next big thing. But behind the scenes, she was falling for Ackerley, an assistant director she met while filming Suite Française. The catch? They were just friends—and roommates, no less.
“I was always in love with him,” Margot admitted. “But I thought, ‘He’d never love me back. Don’t make it weird, Margot.’” So, she stayed in her lane, playing it chill while secretly swooning. Talk about a plot twist waiting to happen.

Margot Robbie made quite the impression with her breakout role in Martin Scorsese’s The Wolf of Wall Street, which included a full frontal nude scene. While speaking with Ben Mankiewicz on the Talking Pictures podcast, the actress revealed that this scene was actually her idea, although she wasn’t thinking about how “everyone is going to see this” at the time.
“[Scorsese] said, ‘Maybe you can be wearing a robe if you’re not comfortable.’ But that’s not what she would do in that scene,” Robbie said. “The whole point is that she’s going to come out completely naked—that’s the card she’s playing right now.“
The actress also explained how she stood out during her audition for the role — by slapping Leonardo DiCaprio. The scene which she was reading called for their characters to kiss, but Robbie had another idea. “I thought, ‘I could kiss Leonardo DiCaprio right now,...

My“The Wolf of Wall Street” was three-time Oscar nominee Margot Robbie’s breakout film, and she was not shy about making a memorable first impression on director Martin Scorsese, star Leonardo DiCaprio, or the audience. In an appearance on the “Talking Pictures” podcast, Robbie told host Ben Mankiewicz that it was her idea to go full-frontal nude for a scene where her character, Naomi, seduces her future husband, DiCaprio’s Jordan Belfort, for the first time.
Recalling her experience working on the film, Robbie said that Scorsese told her that she could wear a robe if she wasn’t comfortable with the nudity, but she decided that wouldn’t be true to the character. “That is not what she would do in that scene,” she said. “She would not put a robe on. The whole point is that she’s going to come out completely naked. That’s the card she’s playing.

Margot Robbie is looking back at her full-frontal nude scene in The Wolf of Wall Street.
While appearing on the Talking Pictures podcast with Turner Classic Movies’ Ben Mankiewicz, the actress reflected on starring in the 2013 Martin Scorsese film alongside Leonardo DiCaprio. The role — as Naomi Lapaglia, the wife to DiCaprio’s Jordan Belfort — marked Robbie’s breakout film role when she was in her early 20s.
In the movie, Robbie has a full-frontal nude scene, one she said she pushed for even when Scorsese offered an alternative option.
She recalled Scorsese suggesting she could cover up, saying, “Maybe you can be wearing a robe if you’re not comfortable.” However, Robbie didn’t feel that would be true to the character.

Margot Robbie recalled slapping Leonardo DiCaprio in the face instead of kissing him in Martin Scorsese's 2013 movie, The Wolf of Wall Street. Based on Jordan Belfort's memoir of the same name that documented his time as a Wall Street stockbroker until his eventual conviction for financial fraud, the film stars DiCaprio in the lead role and Robbie as Belfort's second wife. The Wolf of Wall Street marked the Australian actor's first major film role.
Speaking on the Talking Pictures podcast, Robbie revealed her audition for the film involved scenes that ended with their characters kissing. She admitted that she was excited to kiss DiCaprio but changed her mind at the last minute and "walloped him in the face." The actor recalled the room being "dead silent for what felt like an eternity," and Scorsese and DiCaprio "burst out laughing," though she was certain that she'd get arrested and lose her career.

Having burst onto the Hollywood scene with The Wolf of Wall Street, Margot Robbie became a household name and has been part of some massive projects, but she's completely right about her $64.9 million flop from 2022. Having played the leading role in Barbie, Robbie proved she was still a huge draw as the movie became the highest-grossing movie of 2023, but the previous year wasn't so kind. After the disappointing performance of Amsterdam, Robbie looked to quickly follow up this misfire with Babylon two months later, but the film was met with mixed reviews and an underwhelming box office.
However, despite the movie failing to get much love upon release, Margot Robbie defended Babylon's poor reception and claimed she couldn't figure out why people hated it.
