One of Adam Sandler's most underrated and divisive comedies is finally returning to streaming this February. Sandler's run of comedies from 1995 to 2008 is nothing short of legendary. Within that time, the actor and writer released Happy Gilmore, The Wedding Singer, The Waterboy, Punch-Drunk-Love, 50 First Dates, The Longest Yard, and You Don't Mess with the Zohan (this writer's personal favorite). But, the film that kicked it all off was Billy Madison, and it's finally coming back to streaming.
Billy Madison arrives on Hulu on Feb. 1; it was directed by Tamra Davis, and co-written by Sandler and Tim Herlihy (Happy Gilmore) and is one of Sandler's most underrated comedies. Released in 1995, the film follows 27-year-old Billy Madison (Sandler) who is set to take over his father's hotel empire. However, his father (Darren McGavin) has one demand before he inherits the fortune: for his son to go back and finish school.

Adam Sandler was the king of comedy when it came to low-budget films for the longest time, but as is the case with industry funnymen who make it big, the actor faced a slew of personal tragedies that took a toll on his physical and mental health.

Sandler has revealed much on multiple shows through the decades about all the personal and professional tragedies he has faced, from losing a dear friend to drug abuse to losing his father to lung cancer. There were also a slew of legal cases that Sandler found himself at the center of.

Just Go with It is often considered to be one of the worst Adam Sandler movies, but one detail about it makes the fact that it is a remake of a 1969 Oscar-winning comedy so much funnier. While Adam Sandler has been in some great movies like Punch-Drunk Love and Uncut Gems, he has also been in a lot of bad comedies, earning him a negative reputation in the genre. However, Just Go with It is among the worst films that he is been in, with it continuing a trend of him appearing in remakes that are far worse than the originals.
Adam Sandler got his start in comedy movies, and while he has had some great ones like The Wedding Singer and Happy Gilmore, he has also been in a lot of really bad ones. The 2000s and 2010s saw Sandler appear in movies like Jack & Jill, Pixels, The Ridiculous Six,...

Henry Winkler had a memorable role in the Adam Sandler-led comedy The Waterboy, but as it turns out, Winkler's participation was not planned. The Happy Days star's appearance as Coach Klein was a last-minute favor for Sandler, who reached out to Winkler after the original actor cast for the role didn't show up for production. Frank Coraci's The Waterboy follows Sandler's Bobby Boucher, an awkward waterboy who discovers he has a hidden talent for football and becomes a member of Coach Klein's team. During an appearance on the Let's Talk Off-Camera with Kelly Ripa podcast, Winkler recounted the story of how he ended up as Coach Klein:
"I did [The] Waterboy. He [Sandler] called me up in the middle of the night. He said, 'Henry, I need a favor. My actor didn't show up. I need you to drive right now to the park. It's in L.A.

With his career spanning decades in Hollywood, Adam Sandler has become one of the most renowned comedy icons in the entertainment industry. But on top of starring in hilarious roles, Sandler has also been involved in film production through his company, Happy Madison Productions. This has allowed the actor to have more control over his projects, which helped him bring his family into his work.

A few years ago, Adam Sandler’s one massive hit comedy was reportedly getting a sequel. The plans even extended to developing a franchise out of it. But plans for You Don’t Mess With the Zohan 2 never took off. Sandler discussed his hilariously funny movie with podcast host Joe Rogan, and even touched up why the sequel is on the shelf now.

Mark Molloy's "Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F" succeeds in large part because it is unabashedly formulaic in a way many mainstream programmers are afraid to be nowadays (though we're not all fans here at /Film). Yes, superhero movies and four-quadrant family entertainments contain obligatory elements like Easter eggs for the properties' hardcore fan base and mid- or post-credit scenes to juice excitement for the next installment, but, narratively, the brand managers (i.e. filmmakers) feel a need to overdeliver. It's no longer enough to deliver a simple, well-told story. This is how ephemeral studio/streaming tentpoles wind up with bloated runtimes and obscenely inflated budgets. When viewers look up from their phones to check in on "Red Notice," they expect to see something of significance happening.

David E. Diano, a veteran camera operator with credits including Tombstone, The Fast and the Furious, Wedding Crashers and Spider-Man 3, has died. He was 71.
Diano died Jan. 22 at Huntington Hospital in Pasadena of coronary issues after a battle with prostate cancer, his wife, still photographer Gemma Lamana, told The Hollywood Reporter.
Diano served as president of the Society of Camera Operators from 2003-04 before deciding not to run for a second term.
“To write that David was a one-of-a-kind friend to those of us who worked with him would be an understatement,” Soc historical chair Michael Frediani said in a statement. “His kindness, artistry and boyish smile endeared him to countess friends and fellow industry colleagues — and that is what set him apart from many,”
Diano shot 17 movies for cinematographer William Fraker, a six-time Oscar nominee, from 1983-2002. Those films included War Games (1983), Murphy’s Romance (1985), Baby Boom (1987), Memoirs of an Invisible Man...

When the name of Adam Sandler is associated with a film project in the industry, the first thing that comes to the audiences’ mind is the genre of it being another comedy from the star, and rightfully so. But unfortunately, the star has also given the world some of the most throwaway pieces of cinema in the process.

If you haven’t taken the leap to bundle Disney+ and Hulu, it might be time. Streaming is only getting more expensive and competitive, and the enticing bundle (which also includes ESPN) might be a version of cable TV, but it’s also just cost efficient. Disney+ and Hulu are so intertwined that their monthly listing updates come in the same email — and as such, we decided to compile them here for you in the same list.
Whether you have Disney+ or Hulu, or both (and the IndieWire staff has weighed on our favorites), each has its benefits. Disney has the family-friendly titles, the Star Wars and Marvel (new episodes of “The Bad Batch” and “X-Men: 97” continue through April), while Hulu is the place to catch FX originals and network episodes. Both streamers have the rights to distribute National Geographic titles, which are well worth exploring along with the rest of the library.

Comic Nick Swardson is following up a disastrous performance in Colorado with a promise to “make it up” to the town where he was escorted from the stage 20 minutes into his stand-up set.
On Sunday at the Vilar Performing Arts Center in Beaver Creek, an admittedly inebriated Swardson, 47, was removed from the stage to the sounds of an angry crowd booing him after he stammered through what appeared to be a nonsensical opening during his headlining appearance. On Tuesday, the Grandma’s Boy actor issued a statement about the incident.

Though it’s based on a 2005 movie of the same name, Prime Video’s Mr. and Mrs. Smith is something that’s increasingly rare these days: an honest-to-goodness TV show. The Donald Glover and Francesca Sloane-created spy thriller understands the required rhythms of its medium very well. Each episode presents a self-contained chapter within the dangerous marriage of John (Glover) and Jane Smith (Maya Erskine) while also subtly forwarding their overall story.
The commitment to the usual TV format also means that Mr. and Mrs. Smith gets to introduce one hell of a roster of guest stars. Sandler's performance in "Uncut Gems" showcases his dramatic talent as Howard Ratner, a self-destructive gambling addict who drives away everyone who cares about him. Despite his flaws, it's hard not to feel sorry for him. In "50 First Dates," Sandler's character Henry Roth shows persistence and dedication in winning over Lucy, a woman with short-term memory loss. While initially manipulative, Henry's love and devotion make him an emblem of true love. As Zohan Dvir in "You Don't Mess With The Zohan," Sandler brings the audience a hilarious and endearing protagonist. Zohan's journey from elite Israeli counter-terrorist to hairstylist gives the movie both humor and heart.

My Big Fat Greek Wedding was a turning point for many actors involved in the movie, and since its release, they have come a long way in their careers. Although My Big Fat Greek Wedding did not initially have a lot of buzz surrounding its release, the rom-com movie became a sleeper hit after premiering in 2002. Twenty after its release, the film is considered a rom-com classic and, as a result, has spawned two sequels.

Actor Mike Batayeh passed away at the age of 56 at his home in Michigan on June 1. The cause of death has just been announced as “asphyxia hanging.”
His family originally announced that his cause of death was a “massive heart attack,” but this proved to be untrue. Steve Owens, Batayeh’s manager, also reaffirmed this statement.
His sisters spoke about their brother’s death, “He was a kind, sensitive, intelligent, and gifted soul. This is such a devastating loss of a huge life and Mike will be missed by us and so many people in all parts of the world.”
The police were called after he committed suicide, but it has not been released who called the police. They reported to his apartment on the third floor of his building based on a call for a “possible suicide.”
All that is known about the caller is that they are a male relative of Batayeh.

Free streaming platforms like LG Channels seemingly add new channels all the time. There are more than 1,500 free ad-supported TV (Fast) channels available in the United States alone, and the amount of time consumers spent watching these channels increased in April, despite it normally being a period where TV watching decreases across the industry.
One thing Fast platforms don’t normally offer, however, are a lot of is live sports. But users of the free streaming service LG Channels will see that change this month, as the service is adding several live events to the schedule on the NCAA Championships Channel (channel 100), including tennis, lacrosse, and track and field events from both the NCAA’s Division II and Division III.
The live sporting events coming to the NCAA Championships Channel starting May 17 include:
Date Time (Et) Event Wednesday, May 17 12 noon Diii Women’s Team Tennis Finals Sunday, May 21 2 p.m.

Not only has Adam Sandler never won an Academy Award, but he has never even been nominated, but one of his upcoming movies could give him another chance. The comedy actor and former Saturday Night Live performer has starred in tons of iconic '90s and 2000s comedies, and his style of comedy has become a brand. While he's known for his silly performances and putting on goofy accents, such as Bobby Boucher, Jr. in The Waterboy and Zohan in You Don't Mess with the Zohan, he has been known to play dramatic roles from time to time too, though they're relatively few and far between.
His stand-out performances have helped those films win some major awards, as Punch-Drunk Love earned Paul Thomas Anderson a Best Director win at Cannes Film Festival, and Uncut Gems won a ton of awards across the board. But though those films got Sandler tons of acclaim,...

Jennifer Aniston thinks one of Adam Sandler's infamous flops, You Don't Mess with the Zohan, is actually one of his funniest movies. One of the most famous funny actors alive, Sandler has starred in some of the biggest comedy hits in recent memory, from Billy Madison to Happy Gilmore, though he's also had his fair share of flops over his career. Sandler is also known for his multiple collaborations with Aniston over the years, including the 2011 romantic comedy Just Go With It and Netflix's Murder Mystery, with a sequel, Murder Mystery 2, releasing later this month.
In a recent actor profile by The Washington Post, Aniston had a rather unexpected choice for one of Adam Sandler's funniest movies – You Don't Mess with the Zohan. Jennifer Aniston has named her favourite Adam Sandler film – and the choice is rather unexpected.
The actor has reunited with the comedian for Murder Mystery 2, a sequel to their comedy that broke streaming records for Netflix in 2019.
Both actors are doing the promotional rounds for the film, which is released later this month.
As part of this, Sandler participated in an interview with The Washington Post, which featured commentary from entertainment figures to have worked with the actor since his rise to fame in the 1990s.
It was for this interview that Aniston selected the Sandler film she thinks is the best.
Recalling being unable to “keep a straight face” when watching the actor, the Friends star said: “Personally, I think You Don’t Mess With the Zohan is one of the funniest movies.”

Adam Sandler treated a delighted Gotham Awards audience Monday night with a rollicking stand-up session, thanking the org for a Performers Tribute after a long career with two guiding principles, “that people in prison need movies too, and TBS needs content to show between all those basketball games.”
He claimed the speech was written by his two teenage daughters, who were upset he hadn’t prepared one. He said he promised them he would, and he did by delivering it in a goofy Southern accent. “Thank you for givin’ our daddy, Mr. Adam Sandler, this prestigious lifetime, all-time prime time achievement tribute award. Alright everyone, we’ve got all the spookies of October out of our system. Time to turn our eye to Hulu’s list of new releases for November 2022 to celebrate a new fall tradition of…hunky male dancers?
That’s right, Hulu’s biggest original title for November 2022 is Welcome to Chippendales on Nov. 22. This limited series stars Kumail Nanjiani (Eternals) as Somen “Steve” Banerjee, the real life founder of the original Chippendales club of exotic male dancers. After hits like The Dropout and Pam & Tommy, Hulu likely has high hopes for this one.
The other big original series of note this month is FX’s Fleishman is in Trouble on Nov. 17. This is based on a 2019 novel of the same name and stars Jesse Eisenberg as the titular Toby Fleischman in crisis. Before that, Hulu is teaming up with ABC for some true crime docuseries like Where is Private Dulaney?...

After witnessing an alien abduction as a child (and subsequently being told she’s crazy for most of her life) Aurora, now a young woman, joins the UFO cult The Cosmic Dawn after discovering a book written by the group’s leader, Elyse. Aurora’s time at the cult’s remote island compound is marked by miraculous revelations, consciousness-expanding flowers, and a burgeoning friendship with Tom, the resident cook. When a fellow cult member starts to display increasingly bizarre behaviour, Aurora begins to question Elyse’s sanity (and her own) and starts looking for a way out.
Years later, after the dissolution of the cult, Aurora has moved on with her life. She leads a quiet and seemingly normal life. But when Elyse resurfaces in a mysterious video, Aurora is forced to confront her past.

Training Day, Iron Man, The Master, Munich, Ford v Ferrari, The Bling Ring, Nightcrawler, Ray, Birds of Prey, You Don’t Mess with the Zohan, Syriana, The Conjuring 2––meet Michael Bauman, the man who’s lit it all. That’s not even a quarter of the credits to his name, almost all of which, since 1994, list him as gaffer or chief lighting technician. Different productions have different titles, but it’s essentially the same job: he’s in charge of light. Where it goes in or out of frame, how it’s sourced, how it plays on screen, the strength, the tone, the hue, the shadow, all of it. In a medium created to capture light, that’s a vital role. He characterizes frames through details that guide our viewing experience, creating thematic throughlines with color, or heightening specific moments with dynamic shading, or falsifying daylight, or something else we take for granted.
