Global Media Makers operates as a cultural exchange program backed by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, focusing on mid-career writers, directors and producers in film and television. The program is implemented by Film Independent, the organization behind the Spirit Awards. Mishra is a Global Media Makers Fellow.

Disney’s long-expected move to fold ABC Signature into 20th Television brings to an end the media conglom’s in-house TV studio, which started off as Touchstone Television a decade before Disney bought ABC, subsequently being renamed ABC Studios and more recently ABC Signature.

Launched in 1985, Touchstone TV’s first major hit was Golden Girls, which ran on NBC for seven seasons. Other successful series from that era include Blossom, also for NBC, and Home Improvement, Ellen and Boy Meets World for ABC.

In the first years after ABC became part of Disney, Touchstone Television continued to sell to all networks — which is how 20th Television operated for its entire run at Fox — with shows such as Felicity and Popular for the WB and The PJs for Fox/WB.

Tony McFarr, a stuntman best known as the double for actor Chris Pratt in blockbusters like Jurassic World and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, died as the result of an irregular heartbeat due to an issue with his heart valves, the Orange County Florida Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed to Deadline.

Ruling the death accidental, the Me’s Office says McFarr died of probable cardiac dysrhythmia due to mitral valve insufficiency. Contributing factors include alcohol poisoning and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, known as Copd, a common lung condition that causes constriction of the airways and difficulty in breathing.

McFarr was found dead at his Florida home outside of Orlando on May 13. He was 47.

Johnny Wactor, an actor on General Hospital, was shot and killed during a suspected catalytic converter theft attempt in downtown Los Angeles on Saturday morning, his family told ABC7. He was 37.

The Los Angeles Police Department said officers responded to the area of Pico Boulevard and Hope Street around 3:25 a.m. Saturday. At the scene, they found a man suffering from a gunshot wound, whom ABC7 later identified as Wactor.

According to authorities, Wactor was shot after confronting three men who were allegedly attempting to steal the catalytic converter from a vehicle. He was later transported to a local hospital, where he died.

The suspects fled the scene in a vehicle and have not been arrested, police said. The investigation is ongoing.

The dramatic update of Will Smith’s beloved Fresh Prince of Bel-Air has changed showrunners again. This time, Carla Banks-Waddles has been promoted from co-exec producer to exec producer and showrunner for Bel-Air’s second season as part of her overall deal with studio Universal Television. She replaces T.J. Brady and Rasheed Newson (Army Wives, Lie to Me) at the helm of Bel-Air, which counts Smith and original series creators Andy and Susan Borowitz among its exec producers. Brady and Newson left following creative differences with Peacock and producers Universal Television.

Exclusive: The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey is set to be the latest center of crime fighting.

Fox is developing a drama series set in that world from Madam Secretary creator Barbara Hall and Criminal Minds writer Erik Stiller.

The untitled series is set amongst the Port Authority Police Department, which is responsible for all threats and criminal activity at New York and New Jersey’s bridges, tunnels, airports, seaports and the World Trade Center.

It will follow the Papd’s first female chief as she leads its elite major crimes unit and also must contend with the mafia, governors from two states, the NYPD, the FBI and her own powerful police union — all while managing the tangled, messy lives of her team.

Hall, who has worked on series including Homeland and Army Wives, will serve as showrunner and executive producer, with Stiller writing and exec producing.

Fox’s The Resident is upping Kaley Ronayne to series regular for Season 6.

The news follows Deadline’s exclusive announcement that Andrew McCarthy was promoted to series regular on the medical drama. McCarthy plays Dr. Ian Sullivan, father of Ronayne’s character Dr. Cade Sullivan.

Cade is a double board-certified ICU and ER doctor whose love life this season will take compelling and unexpected turns. Her father, Dr. Ian Sullivan now a top physician at Chastain, is struggling with a dark secret. Her attachment to him, and the fight to save him, will upend her life.

Cade is one of two women the series is positioning as a possible new romantic interest for Dr. Conrad Hawkins (Matt Czuchry), who lost his beloved wife Nic Nevin (Emily VanCamp) in Season 5.

Nearly a quarter century after NBC sitcom “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” ended its six-season run, filmmaker Morgan Cooper uploaded a mock trailer for a dramatic reimagining of the series to YouTube, where it has since gained over seven million views. The video’s popularity soon led to the reboot idea becoming a reality in the form of Peacock series “Bel-Air,” which premiered this February. Cooper (who produces the show and directed and wrote part of its first season) recently participated in a 2022 Emmys FYC panel along with showrunners/executive producers T.J. Marnie Schulenburg, known for her roles in soap operas “As the World Turns” and “One Life to Live,” died Tuesday in New York due to a complication from breast cancer, a representative confirmed to Variety. She was 37.

Schulenburg’s husband Zack Robidas, an actor known for his roles in “Sorry for Your Loss” and “Succession,” also confirmed the news via a Facebook post, in which he thanked her fans for their support after Schulenburg’s diagnosis.

“Please don’t say Marnie lost her battle to cancer. It’s simply not true. I watched her kick cancer’s ass everyday since diagnosis,” the post reads. “She is incredible. We chose to attack her diagnosis with blind optimism. We only talked about the future and continued moving forward. I don’t know if this was right but it’s all we knew how to do.”

Schulenburg was born in Cape Cod, Mass.

The NBC drama pilot “Found” has cast Kelli Williams, Variety has learned exclusively.

Williams joins previously announced series lead Shanola Hampton in the project along with fellow cast member Mark-Paul Gosselaar.

The show is built around the fact that, in any given year, more than 600,000 people are reported missing in the U.S. More than half that number are people of color that the country seems to forget about. Public relations specialist Gabi Mosley (Hampton) — who was once herself one of those forgotten ones — and her crisis management team now make sure there is always someone looking out for the forgotten missing people. But unbeknownst to anyone, this everyday hero is hiding a chilling secret of her own.

Williams will star in the pilot as Margaret Reed. A keen observer of human behavior, Margaret is a crisis manager at Mosley and Associates, and the mother figure to her whole team of associates.

Former “One Life to Live” star Josh Kelly is returning to daytime TV as a series regular on “General Hospital,” TheWrap has confirmed.

There are no details about his character, but he will first appear on the daytime soap at the end of the month.

Kelly played Cutter Wentworth on “One Life to Live” from 2010 to 2013. The soap, which was set in the fictional city of Llanview, Pennsylvania, ran on ABC from 1958 to 2012 and had a short-lived stint on Hulu before being canceled in 2013.

“General Hospital,” which is set in the fictional town of Port Charles, has welcomed several “One Life to Live” alums over the years, including Roger Howarth.

He also played Jeremy Carter on Lifetime’s “UnREAL,” Robbie on the Jimmy Smits-led “Bluff City Law” and Walker Chisum on Peacock’s supernatural series “Midnight, Texas.” He has also guest-starred on “Grey’s Anatomy,” “Army Wives” and “Rizzoli & Isles.

The Flight Attendant‘s “mind palace” is serving up a veritable 31 flavors of Kaley Cuoco’s titular Cassie Bowden, as teased in the full trailer for Season 2 of the HBO Max dramedy.

Premiere Thursday, April 21 (with its first two episodes),The Flight Attendant ‘s sophomore run will find Cuoco’s Cassie “living her best sober life in Los Angeles while moonlighting as a CIA asset in her spare time,” according to the official logline. “But when an overseas assignment leads her to inadvertently witness a murder, she becomes entangled in another international intrigue.” (Season 2 was filmed in Los Angeles, Berlin and Reykjavik.

Exclusive: Harry Hamlin (Mad Men) has signed on for a series regular role in the AMC series Anne Rice’s Mayfair Witches, and for a supporting role in the film 80 for Brady for Paramount Pictures and Endeavor Content.

The former series written and executive produced by showrunner Esta Spalding and Michelle Ashford is based on Rice’s Lives of the Mayfair Witches trilogy. It focuses on an intuitive young neurosurgeon who discovers that she is the unlikely heir to a family of witches. As she grapples with her newfound powers, she must contend with a sinister presence that has haunted her family for generations.

Hamlin will play Cortland Mayfair, current reigning patriarch of the Mayfair clan with a voracious appetite for more money, more power and more life, in his first series regular role in over two decades.

Season 2 of Kaley Cuoco’s HBO Max caper is set to premiere Thursday, April 21, EW.com reports. Two episodes will drop on premiere day, followed by Episodes 3 and 4 on April 28. Subsequent installments will unspool weekly through May 26.

Season 2 of The Flight Attendant will find Cuoco’s Cassie “living her best sober life in Los Angeles while moonlighting as a CIA asset in her spare time,” according to the official logline.

“Star Trek: Strange New Worlds” has cast Paul Wesley in the iconic role of James T. Kirk for the Paramount Plus show’s upcoming second season.

“Strange New Worlds” is due to premiere on Paramount Plus on May 5. It was renewed for a second season back in January, with that season already in production.

The show follows the adventures of Captain Christopher Pike prior to Kirk becoming captain of the Enterprise. Wesley will appear as a young version of Kirk. He is now the third actor to play the character in a live-action project. Most famously, William Shatner played Kirk in the original “Star Trek” series as well as in multiple films. Chris Pine has played Kirk in three “Star Trek” films to date, with a fourth on the way.
