This is more on me than on the story itself, but I really don't feel that this was an appropriate way to present the back story of the character.
The only reason I watched this at all was because IMDb registered it as being a part of the "Saw" cannon and, in the interest of viewing the entire franchise, I deemed it only appropriate to check it out.
It's got a back story of the character, sure, but it wasn't exactly engaging. In fact, it was downright dull.
The character of the Jigsaw killer thrives on the unknown, and I think the filmmakers have slowly been peeling away layers of the character in each subsequent instalment in the series, always getting one step closer to revealing the real person behind the gimmicks, where he came from, and why he was really doing the things he was doing.
Comic books bore me, and I always get disappointed when something in a good series is presented in that format, because I can't say I've experienced the entire story without having endured those other things. I will not be watching this again. I really don't see much of a reason for it to exist in the first place aside from making even more money off the already bankable franchise. Yawn.
