Two of the highest-profile independents on the Spanish-language movie scene, Colombia’s 64-a Films and Spain’s Latido Films, are teaming to develop, produce and distribute premium TV and platform series.
Playing to their complementary expertise, Latido and 64-a will co-develop and co-produce titles, with 64-a overseeing physical production and Latido spearheading distribution.
Much of 64-a and Latido’s first development slate will be presented to potential partners at MipCancun, which kicks off Tuesday evening in Mexico, running Nov. 16-19.
Designed by 64-a founder Diego F. Ramírez and Juan Torres, Latido Films director of sales, the production alliance builds on the partners’ collaboration on two of the most successful of recent movie titles: Laura Mora’s feature debut “Killing Jesus,” a fest favorite sold to 40 countries; and Carlos Moreno’s “Lavaperros,” a Netflix Top 10 hit across Latin America.

While France has a deeply entrenched cinema tradition, drama series have been gaining tremendous ground within the country’s cultural landscape within the past few years, with some of the country’s biggest producers, stars and filmmakers venturing into ambitious television projects. The 3-month-old merger of UniFrance and TV France Intl., the country’s film and audiovisual promotion organizations, into a single entity is probably the best illustration of this blended world.
The growing presence of global streaming services, especially Netflix, in the TV space has played a key role in bolstering a talent drain, catapulting French stars, such as Omar Sy with the Gaumont-produced show “Lupin,” to international recognition. Although Sy broke through a decade ago with the smash hit French comedy “Intouchables,” “Lupin” allowed him to reach many more viewers around the world. Another example is Tahar Rahim, who became known around the world after starring in...

To independent filmmaker Derek Ting, Hong Kong is the place that made his dream come true. It is the city where he and partner Joyce Yung began a decade-long ride in filmmaking and production with the founding of Random Art Workshop, which has produced three narrative feature films and a range of creative content.
A decade into navigating Asia and the West throughout a globe-trotting filmmaking journey, the company strives to grow bigger with greater ambition to turn future projects into new vehicles that would allow the company’s founders to give back to the city while supporting international productions from a global perspective.
“We want to be the global leader in telling universal impactful stories by guiding creators to maximize a project’s vision and potential leveraging technology and adaptability to optimize workflow,” Yung tells Variety.
“I understand the Western taste and I also have the sensitivity towards the Eastern culture.

EntertainmentThe special song will be a last minute addition to thrill the fans, we hear.Digital Native pawankalyan singing.jpgThis New Year’s eve, Pawan Kalyan’s fans will get a special gift. On December 31, the makers of Agnyathavaasi will release a special song crooned by none other than the ‘Power Star’ himself. While the audio launch of the film happened recently in Hyderabad in which five songs have been released, the special song will be a last minute addition to thrill the fans, we hear. The song will be recorded next week, say sources in the know. Incidentally, the film will mark Anirudh Ravichander’s debut in the Telugu film industry as this will be his direct Telugu movie. And the filmmakers are planning it to be extremely special. Directed by Trivikram Srinivas, the film is bankrolled by S Radha Krishna under his banner Haarika & Hassine Creations. Having directed Pawan Kalyan twice earlier and both the films turning out to be huge hits, expectations are high on Agnyathavaasi. The entertainer is into the post-production mode with the release date set to be January 10 next year. Rumors are rife that the film is inspired from Hollywood super hit film The Heir Apparent: Largo Winch. As per a leaked story, a childless rich man adopts a kid from orphanage home. Starring Pawan Kalyan in the lead role, the film stars Keerthy Suresh as his lead pair. Anu Emmanuel is the other heroine in Agnyathavaasi. The star cast also includes Adhi Pinisetty, Boman Irani, Kushboo, Parag Tyagi, Rao Ramesh, Sampath Raj, Murali Sharma, Vennela Kishore, Ajay, Sameer Hasan and Aadukalam Naren. Victory Venkatesh and Anirudh Ravichander will be making cameo appearance in this flick. V Manikandan has worked on the camera capturing some of the best visuals and Kotagiri Venkateswara Rao has edited the film. With a new song sung by Pawan Kalyan to release right before the New Year, his fans are waiting in anticipation for it as there is a strong indication that it would be a mass number. Mune: Guardian Of The Moon screens Saturday, Nov. 11 at 11:00am at The Missouri History Museum (5700 Lindell Boulevard) as part of this year’s St. Louis International Film Festival. This is a Free screening.
As legend has it, the first Guardian of the Sun threw a harpoon into the cosmos and roped the sun to bring light and warmth to all of humanity. Then the Guardian of the Moon lured the moon to the Land of Darkness to provide a balance to the sun and supply the world with dreams. At a momentous ceremony to appoint the two new guardians, an accident seems to occur: The heir apparent is passed over, and the title Guardian of the Moon is bestowed on the waif-like Mune, a small and frightened forest faun who seems wholly unprepared to take on such a weighty responsibility. This news excites Necross, the nefarious ruler of the Underworld,...

Man, Netflix – you are all over the place this September. A horror parody, an old and a new raunch-friendly animated series, a remorselessly bleak film from Angelina Jolie and, somehow, even more Narcos episodes? (Viewers may remember that last season jettisoned a pretty key character.) Streaming-wise, you'll also get a trio of personal visions from comedy writers and a cavalcade of vintage-ish sitcoms courtesy of Hulu. Here's what's you'll be logging on and checking out over the next month. (For our standard TV recommendations, click here.)

Queen Maxima of the Netherlands, 45, appeared in public on Friday for the first time since she was diagnosed earlier this week with a concussion. The queen put her best foot forward to face the cameras at Villa Eikenhorst, where the gardens form the backdrop to the Dutch royal family's annual summer photo shoot. Maxima was joined by her husband King Willem-Alexander, 49, and the couple's three daughters: The heir apparent Princess Catharina-Amalia, 12, Princess Alexia, 11, and Princess Ariane, 9. On Monday, the queen had shown no signs of ill health as she welcomed a visiting Greek delegation on an official two-day trip to the Netherlands.

Cannes, France -- Academy award-winner Forest Whitaker turns in a solid performance as a cop searching for the murderer of a white teenager in the movie "Zulu," a violent and often shocking portrayal of South African gang culture where traces of apartheid still linger.
The film premiered at the close of the Cannes Film Festival on Sunday and is directed by "Largo Winch'"s Jerome Salle, co-starring Orlando Bloom as a free-wheeling white officer, as well as South African actor Conrad Kemp.
As a child, Whitaker's character Ali narrowly escaped being murdered by Inkhata, a militant political party at war with Nelson Mandela's anti-apartheid Anc. Now, as chief of Cape Town's homicide branch, his quest to bring the perpetrator to justice leads him on a path that uncovers the unhealed wounds of post-apartheid South Africa.

The steady invasion of auteur genre films into the Cannes Film Festival steps over the line with Zulu, a French policier distinguished only by Forest Whitaker's deeply resonant performance as a detective and its South African setting. Were it not for the star power of Whitaker and Orlando Bloom, one might seriously doubt whether this well-built vehicle would have received the honor of closing le festival. French director Jerome Salle, who made the round-the-world adventure films Largo Winch I and II, uses the scars left by apartheid as a political subtext, but it's not forefronted enough to

To the outsider, the Cannes Film Festival can be a nebulous thing. Even if you know the filmmaker or the cast, sometimes you need more context than a review to give you a sort of firmer grasp of the shape, texture and tone of a movie. Clips from the festival are landing left and right, so we thought we'd grab a smattering and ground you a little deeper than some of the reviews and pictures your may or may not have seen. So here we go. The first clip is a featurette from "Zulu," the official Closing Film of Cannes this year, that brings together some interesting talent for what seems to be a hard-boiled crime tale. Directed by Jérôme Salle ("Largo Winch" and "Anthony Zimmer," which was later remade as "The Tourist" with Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie) "Zulu" stars Orlando Bloom and Forest Whitaker as a couple of...

A thriller set in Cape Town starring Forest Whitaker and Orlando Bloom is set to close the 66th edition of Cannes Film Festival (May 15 to 26)
Confusingly titled Zulu (the same as the 1964 historical war film depicting the Battle of Rorke's Drift with Michael Caine) it has been adapted from South African writer Caryl Férey's novel of the same name and unfolds in a post-aparheid South Africa.
Whitaker and Bloom play two police officers investigating the murder of a former rugby captain's daughter.
It is directed by French filmmaker and screenwriter Jérôme Salle who made The Burma Conspiracy, the thriller Anthony Zimmer, and the comic strip extravaganza Largo Winch and currently is working on The Odyssey, a feature about marine conservationist and cineaste Jacques Cousteau.
Whitaker won best actor award at Cannes in 1988 for his performance in Clint Eastwood’s Charlie Parker biopic Bird.

We're almost a month away from the start of the 66th Cannes Film Festival, meaning the official selection is going to be announced soon. In advance of that announcement, they've revealed the film chosen to close the festival on May 26th - Zulu, starring Forest Whitaker and Orlando Bloom, directed by Jérôme Salle (seen above). It's well known that closing night films are usually the more weaker fare, but this sounds interesting nonetheless. Cannes also released a first look photo (seen below) of Bloom and Whitaker along with details on the film playing at the festival this May. Baz Luhrmann's The Great Gatsby will kick things off May 15th. Zulu, co-written and directed by Jérôme Salle (of Anthony Zimmer, The Heir Apparent: Largo Winch, The Burma Conspiracy) adapted from the novel of the same name by Caryl Férey, is a thriller shot entirely on location in South Africa. Awards season may have come and gone, but sci-fi fans still have something to look forward to with today's announcement of the Saturn Award nominees.
The awards, presented by the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Films, recognize excellence in these genres, which are often underrepresented at other awards shows.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, this year's big movie contenders are "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2," "Hugo," tied with 10 nominations each.
A number of the movies scoring big have been commercial successes but have not received awards show love, including J.J. Abrams' $260-million grossing monster hit "Super 8," which nabbed eight nominations, and "Captain America: The First Avenger," which earned nearly $400 million worldwide, coming in with six.
One of the most surprising cross-genre hits is Woody Allen's romantic comedy "Midnight in Paris," which took home the award for Best Original Screenplay at Sunday's Oscars, in...

Orlando Bloom has a special place in the hearts of geeks all over the world because of Lord of the Rings. Screen Daily reports (via The Playlist) that the actor is hoping to gain attention from critics with his next role. He has signed on to star in a new dramatic thriller called Zulu from French writer and filmmaker Jerome Salle. He directed Anthony Zimmer, which was recently remade for Us audiences as The Tourist, and was responsible for Largo Winch and its sequel, The Burma Conspiracy.
Julien Rappeneau is adapting Caryl Férey's novel, which tells the story of "two Cape Town police officers (Bloom, Honsou) who investigate the murder of a 18 year-old girl, the daughter of a member of the championship winning Springboks rugby team. The investigation reveals ties to the country's apartheid past in the simmering thriller." Djimon Honsou (Gladiator, Blood Diamond) has also signed on to star.

If the name Jerome Salle isn't familiar, that may be about the to change. The French writer and filmmaker was behind "Anthony Zimmer," which was remade into a movie you remember as "The Tourist." He also helmed the franchise efforts "Largo Winch" and its followup "The Burma Conspiracy." But for this next effort, he's taking a bit more of a serious path in what could be his international breakthrough. Screen Daily reports that he will take the helm of "Zulu" with Orlando Bloom and Djimon Honsou to star. Adapted from the novel by Caryl Férey, the story follows two Cape Town police officers (Bloom, Honsou) who investigate the murder of a 18 year-old girl, the daughter of a member of the championship winning Springboks rugby team. The investigation reveals ties to the country's apartheid past in the simmering thriller. Sounds pretty good, frankly. Salle has teamed with regular writing partner Julien.

The Heir Apparent follows the exploits of the dashing, twenty-something titular heir Largo Winch (Tomer Sisley, Sleepless Night), the heretofore unknown adopted son of the murdered billionaire founder of an international corporation. Poised to take over the business, the ever-resourceful Largo must first overcome an onslaught of drug traffickers, assassins, corporate raiders and double-dealing insiders.
Oh, he’s also hungry to enact the revenge on his father’s murderers. Bouncing across the globe, Largo uses his wits and intelligence — along with his fists, feet and a phalanx of motorcycles, helicopters and speedboats — to get the job done and get back in...

Rating: 3.5 out of 5 stars
Following the car chases, punch-ups, financial intrigue, and multiple language fun of 2008’s Largo Winch, Tomer Sisley returns as the eponymous hero in Largo Winch: the Burma Conspiracy with even more corporate shenanigans, double-crosses, high-octane action, discoveries about Largo’s deceased father Nerio, and clues about his own adopted past. Following the death of his hugely wealthy father, Largo Winch returns from being “off the radar”, to take over his father’s business and then sell it in order to invest in a charitable foundation. But someone is not happy about this plan and Winch finds himself accused of crimes against humanity relating to the extermination of a Burmese village, from which his father seems to have benefited in securing mining rights. The prosecutor for the Icc (Sharon Stone) thinks she has him hook, line and sinker, but Winch knows he is innocent and refuses to believe that his father would have been complicit in such an atrocity. With little to go on, he sets about clearing his name and getting to the bottom of what really happened in Burma.

Jean Van Hamme and Philippe Francq's graphic novels return to the big screen with the follow on from Largo Winch – Deadly Revenge. The Director of the first installment and The Tourist reunites with the original writer to bring us The Burma Conspiracy.
For anyone unfamiliar with the Belgium comic books, there's a helpful recap of the discovery of Largo's existence three years earlier. A TV news bulletin tells us Largo promises to be the most powerful man on the planet if he steps up to the job as CEO of the W Group to successfully run his inherited business empire. Now that his powerful billionaire father, Nerio, is deceased and Largo's identity as his adopted son has been legitimatised, Largo must protect the honour of his family name and his business interests when accused of being involved in a Burmese massacre 20 miles from the Thai border that his father...

This thriller, with its own demented logic and some suitably hammy characters, is based on a Belgian comic-book. Tomer Sisley plays daredevil billionaire Largo Winch, who decides to strip the family business of its assets and give the profits to charity. This irritates quite a few shadowy figures, so he's fitted up by Sharon Stone's international prosecutor for a massacre in the Burmese jungle three years before. So the one-note hunk seeks to clear his name and reunite with his pretty, earnest, former girlfriend (Napakpapha Nakprasitte). An erratic, convoluted and rather humourless film, which really needs a more charismatic lead.

★★☆☆☆ Apparently, philanthropy will get you killed. This is the problem facing Largo Winch (Tomer Sisley), the heir to a massive global corporation in Jérôme Salle's The Burma Conspiracy (2011), the follow-up to 2008's Largo Winch - Deadly Revenge, based on a Belgian comic book series by Jean Van Hamme and Phillipe Francq. The first movie's light touch and Bourne-esque conspiracy-thriller style was both engaging and fun. Sadly, the sequel does not live up to its predecessor.

To mark the release of The Burma Conspiracy on DVD 23rd January, Studio Canal have given us three copies of the movie to give away. The film is directed by Jérôme Salle and stars Tomer Sisley and Sharon Stone.
Following the murder of his adoptive father Nerio, Largo Winch (Tomer Sisley) is now CEO of the vast W Group. But the compromises money and power require don’t suit Largo. He announces the sale of the Group and the creation of a humanitarian foundation, to be led by his father’s oldest friend.
The very day the agreement is signed Largo is accused of complicity in crimes against humanity. International prosecutor Diane Franken (Sharon Stone) suspects him of having paid off – four years previously, for his father’s benefit – notorious Burmese General Kyaw Min, after the displacement of a mineral-rich native village on behalf of the W Group turned into a massacre.

Movie Review: 'Largo Winch II - The Burma Conspiracy'; Director: Jerome Salle; Cast: Julien Rappeneau, Jerome Salle and Sharon Stone; Rating: ** - a muddled mess.
When it comes to art, the secret to being truly global is to be totally local. Hollywood exerts so much influence on world of cinema that all such wisdom is thrown out of the wind. The result is a film like 'Largo Winch II, which despite trying is neither truly French, nor Hollywood.
Largo Winch, adopted son of a billionaire, returns from his self-exile in Burma to take control of the Winch empire after his father's murder. He is not his father and.

Chicago – From what I understand, the name Largo Winch is a household one in Europe. While it may mean nothing here, a French spy thriller with a name like “The Heir Apparent: Largo Winch,” based on a European comic book, might sound like the perfect alternative for arthouse movie goers looking for something different this holiday weekend. Sadly, from the very beginning, “Largo Winch” feels like nothing different at all. It’s surprisingly generic, clichéd, and often dull, with only a few set pieces and dashes of French style to separate it. Far from a complete disaster, but forgettable in nearly every way.
“The Heir Apparent” opens as a number of thrillers have – with the death of a very rich man. One minute, Mr. Nerio Winch (Miki Manojlovic) is lounging in his bathrobe on a boat, the next he’s being pulled underwater and drowned by a silent assassin.

"You're a Winch, Largo. What matters is your future." Today's indie trailer, the first in a little while, is for another awesome Belgian graphic novel adaptation other than Tintin, this one titled The Heir Apparent: Largo Winch, based on the Largo Winch series. Tomer Sisley, who also stars in our French favorite Sleepless Night, plays Largo Winch. The cast also includes Miki Manojlovic, Kristin Scott Thomas and Mélanie Thierry. This looks somewhat like if a corporate CEO's heir was an action movie superstar, with a tinge of Michael Bay. One thing is for sure - this confirms that Tomer Sisley is truly badass. Check this out! I haven't seen director Jérôme Salle's "The Heir Apparent: Largo Winch," based on the Belgian comic books created by Philippe Francq and Jean Van Hammer, but that fact might change this weekend. "Largo Winch" hits limited theaters and is available on video-on-demand today (November 18), presenting the story of an adventuring orphan who must confront his corporate billionaire father's murder, but not before slugging it out with drug traffickers, assassins and more first.
We've got two exclusive clips from "Largo Winch" to close your week out right. Check them out below, then tune into your VOD platform of choice to watch the full film.
