If you look at all of David Dhawan's best entertainers that also worked at the box office - Aankhen, Coolie No.1, Biwi No.1, Haseena Maan Jaayegi, Mujhse Shaadi Karogi and now Partner to name a few - the pacing of the films is very crisp. This could also be attributed to the fact that Dhawan was an editor before he became a director. His most entertaining films have the right surface elements - gloss, production values, catchy music and star value. But invariably, they are a good marriage of editing and screenplay. And then the x factor - chemistry of the protagonists on screen and their chemistry with Dhawan during the making. In Partner it is Govinda and Salman Khan who light up the screen.
Including Partner, Dhawan has made 38 films as a director - 20 of them have worked at the box office. 17 of those 20 have featured Govinda or Salman Khan. Except for Karisma Kapoor or Sushmita Sen in a few of them, the ladies are mere eye candy in most of them. Partner is a through and through entertainer - start to finish - as a Dhawan film is always meant to be.
Yes, the premise of Partner is a straight lift from Hitch and so are a few of the scenes in the film. I have seen both and thoroughly enjoyed both. But you cannot compare the two. The sensibilities, the arc of the individual stories are like apples and oranges. 9 Dhawan films released between 2000 and 2003 - only Jodi No.1 worked. Since then Partner is only his 4th release and his third hit. The one film a year thing is really working for him.
Govinda has had a second birth courtesy Salaam-e-Ishq and now Partner. It is surprising that Salman and Govinda have not worked opposite each other earlier. It is so funny that I would conclude this from a frivolous masala entertainer like Parter, but something tells me that David Dhawan will be making some amazing dramas, thrillers and black comedies some years down the road and Govinda and Salman will become phenomenal and iconic character actors 10-15 years from now.

As anyone can tell, Partner is just copied from Hitch. Some scenes were funny, but all I could think of was comparing "Hitch" with "Partner". Partner had all the scenes from "Hitch" and just extended it by adding some long songs. I'd say the movie is average, but "Hitch" is way above average. I like the originality in "Hitch", but I hated the plagiarism. Salman Khan/Love Guru is Will Smith/Hitch, Lara Dutta is Eva Mendez who both have the same job in the movies. Govinda is Kevin James/Albert Brennamin. Katrina Kaif is Amber Valetta/Allegra Cole. I definitely encourage people in India to see it only if they haven't seen Hitch. I encourage more for people to see Hicth. Hitch is 100% pure original and barely has any flaws.

David Dhawan never really stood for originality or high production values, but what he did stand for was entertainment both for the masses to an extent even the classes, and he always did it with loads of inspiration and simple film making techniques.
Lets analyse a typical David Dhavan checklist before and during the making of the movie.(Maybe hes an engineer like me).
1)Find a hit movie for the foundation of your film.(Hollywood preferred but Chinese and old Hindi films will do just as well).
CHECK. (need i mention Hitch).
Originality was sacrificed for a guaranteed funny film, and people were still laughing even when the inspiration was a Hindi movie (Bawarchi).
2)Find or formulate a good comic pair.(normally 2 stars but a star and comedian will do remember infamous Shakti/Govinda pair).
CHECK. (In this case free publicity as well being the comeback film of his favourite star).
The chemistry between the lead pair does wonders and is the only thing holding this movie together.
3)Watch DVDs of other hit films for other gags and sequences.
CHECK. (Jerry Mcguire the other big inspiration).
Again this guarantees some good jokes and till they showed a clip of the movie i killing myself to remember the inspiration behind Lara Datta.
4)Add a couple of good looking actresses who mostly just sing and dance.
CHECK. (Lara actually had a bigger role than Katrina).
Once again Katrina looked smoking and once again I profess my love for her, even if it means ill die by Salmans hand.
5)Add some emotional scenes.
CHECK.
Probably the worst part of this movie, these were handled so badly that the lesser said the better.
6)Add some cameos, comic tracks by the inform comic actors etc.
CHECK.
Rajpal Yadav whos way past Johnny Lever on the annoyance index when you cant spook DON YOU HAVE A PROBLEM.
SO WHAT WENT WRONG...
Although the jokes always were more important than the story, the story always flowed with the jokes, in this case 2 strong inspirations and SOME REALLY REALLY SHODDY SCRIPT WRITING AND EDITING ENSURE THAT THE MOVIE IS ACTUALLY JARRING THROWING US FROM ONE TRACK TO THE OTHER.
So many tracks are un -needed and left open, while others are added almost as an afterthought. THIS TECHNICALLY THE WORST David DHAWAN FILM THAT I've SEEN.
Katrinas ROLE WAS SACRIFICED FOR GOVINDAS AND almost no attention was paid to their romance, how and when she started liking him is still a mystery.
7)ADD SOME HIT SONGS (most that will last for years).
NOOOOOOO.
Songs were really OK save for one and were added at the worst times, there was a collective gasp when the last song played.
ON A POSITIVE NOTE..
This movie had the best spoof of Aamir Khan i have ever scene i was falling out my seat laughing at that particular scene and was the best scene in the movie for me.
This movie has some other good scenes as the end (which was to sexual to be in a family movie but I'm sure to be laughing when i see it alone on TV).
The jokes were funny and no-doubt will be even more funnier when watched alone on reruns on TV. (save for Deewane-Mastane which was brilliant this how I've enjoyed most of David Dhawans films, un -inhibited in the quite confines of my home).
David DHAWAN MOVIES WILL ALWAYS HAVE LOADS OF JOKES THAT WILL BE HATED, ENJOYED AT DIFFERENT LEVELS BY DIFFERENT PEOPLE at different times, I've always had a different reactions to his movies when i watch short spans of it on TV.
So we have a movie that was almost a typical David Dhawan masala film but fell well short thanks to lacklustre songs and THE WORST FILM TECHNICALLY I HAVE SEEN IN YEARS.
CAN even be avoided and watched later, definitely not the must watch despite the hype, fans like me will come out just about satisfied.
-s TECHNICAL DISASTER (to put it mildly),OK songs,Rajpal Yadav,THE END MAKES IT ALMOST UNSAFE FOR FAMILY VIEWING.
+/-s David Dhawan formula you may like it one day only to hate it the other, wild swings expected during the same movie.
+s formula works to some extent, couple of hilarious sequences, SUPERB CHEMISTRY BETWEEN THE LEADS.
total 5/10 (did fall below my OK expectations (i expect to enjoy his movie much more at home alone on TV) didn't even match up to MUjhse Shaadi..)

It makes you laugh now and then, but it falls short of being a laugh riot. David Dhawan's movie Partner works because Govinda shows traces of his old comic self once again.
One would be stupid to expect some sense out of a David Dhawan flick. He is the man who can give a humorous twist to hogwash. His brand of comedy is strictly slapstick, and pretty enjoyable at that. And 'Partner', his comeback film after a gap of one-and-a-half years, does carry a good dose of comedy. But it is certainly not among Dhawan's best works.
Govinda is the backbone of the film. Salman Khan , sharing almost equal footage, provides him good support. Besides their performances, it is the script that makes the movie click. The plot may be flimsy, but the dialogue are far from banal.
The comedy in the dialogue is in rhyme. The film has many more hilarious dialogue like these with rhyming words.
'Partner' tells the story of a Love Guru and his follower. Prem (Salman Khan) was born to be a love guru. He was born among girls, grew up among girls and now he gives advice and guidance to people about how to woo girls.
Enters Bhaskar (Govinda), a chubby, bespectacled dreamer who is in love with his stunningly beautiful boss, Priya ( Katrina Kaif ), a multi-millionaire heiress of Jaisingh group of industries. When Bhaskar asks Prem for tips to win Priya's heart, the love guru laughs off and tells Bhaskar to forget her.
After a bit of persuasion and a series of minor misadventures in Phuket, Prem agrees to guide Bhaskar.
On a different front, Prem falls for Naina ( Lara Dutta ), a journalist who keeps bumping into him while running away from the underworld's 'dreaded' Chhota Don (Rajpal Yadav).
The two love stories move ahead. With more than a little help from Love Guru, Bhaskar is able to make a notable impression on Priya and win her affection. On the other hand, Prem makes his advances on Naina.
Things take a turn when Priya's father fixes her marriage with a foreigner. This is when Bhaskar arrives on the marriage scene to win her hand. And just when it seems that both Bhaskar and Prem's respective love stories would have a happy ending, there comes another twist. Their secret is exposed.
The comedy in 'Partner' is not cerebral. It is not so high on wit as on slapstick. The jokes and the gags have a ethnic, street flavor. And there are some dialogues that are indeed hilarious.
When gangster Chhota Don (who speaks in cricket lingo all the time) gets wet by a kid's urine in a toilet, he says: pitch is wet now. Or whenever Govinda gets too happy he begins weeping and exclaims: Itni Khushi!.
There is no doubt about the fact that the chemistry between Govinda and Salman is groovy. There is not a single scene in the film in which either of them tries to outdo the other. Despite this, Govinda dominates the proceedings simply because of his superb comic timing. The actor is rediscovering his old magical touch again. Salman, too, gives a few moments of laughter, but he is no match for his chubby partner.
The ladies don't have much to do in this film. Yet, Katrina Kaif looks amazingly beautiful. Lara Dutta plays her part well. Rajpal Yadav is strictly okay.
'Partner' could have done without the Chhota Don track (featuring Rajpal Yadav in a spoof on SRK's 'Don'). Even Rajat Bedi's character (that of a womanizer) is half-baked, though it has some significance in the plot. And there are certain sequences that are completely out of sync. For instance, Salman on a motorboat, dodging a killer rocket. Or Salman getting bullied by a little kid.
'Partner' may be heavily inspired from the Hollywood film 'Hitch' but the comedy in it is very ethnic. The music by Sajid-Wajid is funky and goes well with the film's theme.
All said, the best sequence of 'Partner' comes in the end, when both Govinda and Salman are having their honeymoon in adjacent rooms. In this final sequence comes the comedy that will have you in splits.

When I saw the trailer of Partner, I knew right away that the shameless director David Dhawan has stolen another Hollywood flick as his "inspiration". Partner is a plagiarized copy of the Will Smith-starrer Hitch.
Everything that happened from the first reel to the very last frame in this movie was an awful pain for me. I just couldn't digest the typical Bollywood dose of endless songs and comedy scenes. And to make matters even worse, the brainless filmmaker has added stupid plot angles like Lara Dutta's son who has no father and Rajpal Yadav's track as Chota Don. Horrible!
Govinda looked old but his comic timing was not too bad, especially his scenes in the office cabin with Salman. But watching him dance was painful as usual. Salman Khan reprises the Will Smith role in Hitch diligently in his own inimitable style. Lara Dutta and Katrina Kaif had nothing to do but look good and fake in front of the camera.
The music of the film is surprisingly worth listening to but the placement of the songs look forced and songs pop out now and then without any valid reason.
Fortunately for the first time in Bollywood history, the makers of Partner have been sued for copying a Hollywood flick. But no legal action had been taken!

Its a good comedy Hindi movie after a long time. The salman and govinda pair is amazing. They have rocked the show. Katrina looks stunning as she always. The movie has got some good dancing beats and its a must watcher for sumone who wants to laugh and is wishing to see a comedy movie. The movie can divided into 10-12 clips out of which 80% clips are good enough to make you laugh. The movie doesn't have any strong storyline but well directed as a comedy movie by Mr. David Dhawan. David dhawan hasn't made a good use of rajpal yadav but may be ,he was stressing more on govinda and salman.
Overall ,its a govinda, salman and David dhawan's movie.

Talk about over acting...!!!! not just by Govinda, but also by Salman and Lara....The direction was awful. The first half hour you would pretty much want to switch the movie off..because this movie is a real stinker (mark my words.
I liked Govinda in some o his comedy roles like Haseena Maan Jaayegi, Jodi No. 1, Akhiyon se Goli Maare and Jis Desh Mein Ganga Rehta Hai and this does not compare to any of them. And Salman Khan should not do comedy roles at all!! He sucks. He does not know how to do comedy. The only good comedy role he did was in Andaz Apna Apna, which was brilliant next to Amir Khan.
There were so many 'overly done stupidly unfunny' scenes in this movie that make you want to take out the DVD and burn it so no one else in your house watches it ever again.

I was interested in watching how this Hitch Bollywood remake would turn out to be, considering the fact that it had Salman Khan, Govinda, Lara Dutta & Katrina in it... & to be honest- I was a bit disappointed that the script had nothing new to offer. It was an exact copy of the Hitch! But, what I did like about this movie was the way the actors portrayed their roles in the film... Specially Govinda for me, was superb throughout the film!
If I go on with a critical aspect then there's no great talk for this movie. But considering the kind of audience it was supposed to attract- Partner did a great job in doing so.
Anybody interested in taking a break typical Bollywood style should really watch this film!!!

(1) The Movie --: As far as the overall movie is concerned, it is a typical Bollywood entertainer, which makes you to laugh many times and entertains you well. Govinda's comic timing, first time pairing of Salman and Govinda, very good songs and music, beautiful locals and witty dialogues make it watchable.Though it would have been much better if director had done some extra job in screenplay but still he has done a good job to come up with such an entertainer as he has mastered the skill.
(2) An Acting --: As far as acting is concerned, Govinda stands out among all with his acting and comic timing as always but still he is not at his best. Salmankhan also accompanied him well and showed his screen presence with his personality. Again he has given good example by accepting role with Govinda as with Amitabh in "Baghbaan". Katrina looks pretty and suites with the role very well. Lara acted well but lacking in glamour as per need of the role. Rajpal Yadav also acted well as "Chota Don" and put in some humour.
(3) Music and Songs --: All five songs of the movie are good in one or another way. Sajid-Wajid has given a good music album. Title song is a well-made class song. "Dupatta" song is well-choreographed good dance number. "Soni De Nakhre" and O My Love" are also good dance numbers. " Maria" song is also a good duet song. All good singers of today such as Udit Narayan, Shaan, Sonu Nigam, Kunal Ganjawala, Sunidhi Chauhan, Shreya Ghoshal and others have given good justice. Songs are also well choreographed in the movie.
(4) Improvements --: Though movie is a good entertainer but still it has some drawbacks. Screenplay is the major fault in the movie. I don't think copying from Hollywood is wrong idea but it needs some additional work to make it perfect Bollywood filmy story. Lara Dutta acted well but somehow she doesn't add glamour to the role at the moment as per requirement. So she would have been replaced with other actress. The whole episode of child artist is boring and so it would have been changed with some other story line.
(5) Summary --: Movie is good to watch for Govinda's comic timing, for chemistry between Salman-Govinda and for very good songs. Just don't look for logic and leave your brain at home as per always said for David Dhawan movie. The entire movie is good to watch for entertainment and to have some laughter. Don't forget to get bonus (laughter) in the end.I would give it 6/10.

This movie was recommended to me so we went to see it together. I wouldn't call it a movie, it's more like a combination of 10 different unfinished, illogical stories, which are not all that funny. There're several characters in the movie who looked important in the beginning, and they just disappeared from the story. He's just trying too hard to fit everything in 2 1/2 hours. I left the show without wondering what happened to this and that guy.
I think this movie is just an extended version of "Hitch", padded with a lot more characters and dancing.
If this is the best movie that this couple has ever made, then I'm pretty sure I'm not interested in any of his previous ones.

This is one hell of a movie. You cannot just stop laughing. Even if you are the hard calculating type. You might not like it but you can't stop laughing.
This one is a comeback vehicle for Govinda. David Dhawan gives us another view of his comic genius.
The plot outline is copied from Hitch. But only the outline. Partner is a very indianized movie for Indian audience. Prem(Salman Khan) is a love guru. Bhaskar Divakar Chaudhari (GOvinda) is the typical loser. Its how they partner to win the hearts of their respective love interests that is the core of the movie.
The pluses are - 1. Clever and witty dialogs. 2. Govinda - fantastic performance 3. Salman Khan - Great screen presence though inane acting. 4. Katrina Kaif - Sizzling beauty...simply mesmerizing 5. Lara Dutta - Holds her own in a multi-starred movie 6. Rajpal Yadav and the Chhota Don concept 7. Direction - great comic timing and visualization 8. Cinematography - stylishly shot 9. Great songs which are also comical
The negatives are - 1. Logical flaws - but you shouldn't be logical when you watch Govinda, now should you?
A Must WATCH for all Bollywood fans.

One can expect a lot from David Dhawan's films. He has directed some of the funniest movies of bollywood. Here comes his another comedy flick.
This film is based on movie Hitch. But you won't find much similarity, since Partner is very bollywood type movie.
Some of the scenes are direct copy from Hitch. Salman Khan is the love guru and Govida comes to love guru to seek his advice to win the girl of his dreams. Partner has its moments. Some are stupid but some are rather funny.
Overall if you are looking for some good laugh and don't like to think much about what's going on in the film then go and watch this movie.
I would give this 6/10. Would have given more if some of the annoying scenes weren't in the movie.

I just don't know how this stupid, crap, junk, garbage & good for nothing film is a blockbuster. It was so boring with a very, very weak (or no) story-line and wasn't even a jot funny. The film was about 135 minutes of only a paragraph of story about Prem (Salman Khan) is a love guru and is helping hapless & romantic Bhaskar (Govinda) to get the girl he wants. I'm not saying that I didn't like the film because it wasn't funny or anything, I will accept a movie that is not funny but has a decent story. The only two reasons why I can say it's a super-hit are:
1. Salman Khan & Govinda are on-screen together but there first time together was in Salaam e Ishq which was a flop so it can't be. But it was a really good movie.
2. Salman Khan's name is Prem and all the films with that name have been a hit including Maine Pyar Kiya. So it's just luck.
I heard that it's a remake of Hitch, I've not seen it & I'm glad I didn't. Music is OK the only good songs are Do you want a partner, You're my love & Soni De Nakhre but what is the use of it in a really bad film, that too, if you have someone like Katrina Kaif who dances with two left feet? She is completely crap. Neither she knows acting, language (her voice is always dubbed for her), dance and always fails to impress. I do not like her one bit she was even disappointing in Koffee with Karan. Overall Partner is a disposable film with a disposable actress Katrina Kaif. Its better off that she is kicked out of Bollywood and never comes back again.

I didn't know what to expect when I started watching this movie, by the end of it I was pulling my hairs out. This was one of the most pathetic movies of this year...in fact, in the last ten years. David Dhawan should just give up his career as a director. I am yet to come across one original script that David Dhawan has worked on. This one was a complete bit y bit rip off Hitch. I have nothing against remakes as such, but this one is just so lousy that it makes you even hate the original one (which was pretty decent). I fail to understand what actors like Salman and Govinda saw in this script. I read somewhere, that this was supposed to be Govinda's comeback vehicle. If thats true, then only God can save his career. Salman just overacted to the hilt. Govinda who I think is an actor of very high caliber was completely wasted. Katrina Kaif and LAra Dutta had nothing to do apart form wearing designer clothes and smiling for no rhyme or reason. Please stay away form this one!

I just don't see how another commentator could not enjoy this movie.
I saw all five of the music numbers on music compilation DVD's and they were stupendous. So when I joined Netflix, Partner was the first movie and second title (the first was Swingtown) that I ordered.
The movie was a hearty and up beat comedy. Like I said in the summary a combination romantic comedy and buddy movie. The characters were all very likable, I had no trouble enjoying the writing, the plot was great and even had a few unexpected twists. And of course the all important music and dance numbers were well spaced and dynamite.
All of the acting performances were excellent but Our Man Sal Man, Govinda and Ali Haj as the little boy, Rohan, stood out.
Since so many people were so down on this movie and comparing it most unfavorably with Hitch - I decided to see Hitch over the weekend. I had only viewed one Bollywood remake and Hollywood original, and that was Chhodon Naa Yaar after Blair Witch Project - and I thought both were stupid.
So I decided to see Hitch after PArtner to see what all of the hoopla was about. Actually I really liked both. It is no secret that Bollywood films, shall we say, heavily borrow, from Hollywood films so when one does, why complain. I see no reason to put down one or the other, both were very good and both have their place. Why not enjoy both of them.
As has been pointed out, several scenes from Partner were directly copied from Hitch. The front of Priya's father's house is an exact copy of Allegra Cole's. I had a lot of fun looking for and watching the duplications. I also liked the way a plot element was borrowed by Partner, but given a different twist.
At he same time the movies had a lot of plot differences.
I still have to say I like Partner just a little bit better. BUT that does not count the five - seven if you count opening and ending credits - gang-buster, show-stopping musical numbers in Partner
It might not be the greatest movie ever made, but it does not claim to be. I thoroughly enjoyed it and do not need to see Hitch!!

Very Funny Movie. The funniest character I liked most Choute Don. The director is really intelligent. We also liked Salman & Govinda. As usual, Govinda is always funny as usual....hahahaha...
I wont tell about the story, which u can read all over the internet.
But the movie and acting is superb..U cant say this movie belong to only Salman Khan or Govinda, together they make a Superb blast and funny-packed "Hatke" se comedy.
2 superb comedies released this year so far is Partner and Bheja Fry, and doesn't matter if they are copies of other French, American movies, they still rock, and not to forget the songs which is superb.
Salman Bhai and Govinda Bhai are great, and cant wait till Partner nr.2 will be released.
Katrina Kaif is good and Lara Dutta is OK, but she still need to loose some weight and tune op her acting.
The Movie is a winner all the way, a true Box-office Hit, and maybe Superhit.

I was really geared up to watch when two of best movie critics tagged this movie as a 'laugh riot'. But the movie turned out be disappointing.
You will be advised to watch this movie keeping your brains at home but you simply can't ignore the flaws and the shortcomings.
1. The missile scene was total stupidity.
2. Katrina Kaif and Govinda pair looked awful. (He's 49 and she's just 24... more than double of her age) 3. Salman's comedy is less of acting and more of overacting.
4. Songs are good but interrupts the pace of the movie.
5. Some scenes were deliberately attempted by the movie makers to be funny, and 6. Poor and flawed story.
However, there are few pluses- 1. Govinda. Great Individual Performance.
2. Some scenes are actually quite funny.
3. Kattrina Kaif. Looks and Acting keeps on improving with every film.
4. Rajpal Yadav's Don sequences. Though under-utilized but hilarious.
So 4 good points, 6 bad ones.. this one gets 4/10.

There wasn't a 0 in the voting option so i was compelled to use the next available figure.
It is a sad day for bollywood when such type of movies which have star-cast actors is nothing more are than a bunch of juvenile acting, and an awful script.
This movie is nowhere near to be called a clone of Hitch. Salman khan with his usual take-off-you-shirt theme and Govinda with his in-humorous laughs. If somebody had told 2 decades ago that I would be writing a comment on Salman (after his success with Maine Pyar Kiya), I would have written him/her off.
