Even With a 90% Score on Rotten Tomatoes, M Night Shyamalan’s Apple TV+ Horror Remains an Underrated Gem
Image
While Apple TV+ is making history with genre-bending content every day, Servant remains an underrated horror gem on the network. It surprises me that despite its 90% score on Rotten Tomatoes, M. Night Shyamalan’s slow-burning horror mystery hasn’t been given its due.

In a span of 4 seasons and 40 episodes, the show delves into themes of grief, faith, cults, and supernatural forces. From the eerie feeling it leaves you with, to the episodes so scary, you have to sleep with the lights on after you watch them, this masterpiece of a show didn’t receive the kind of love and obsession it deserved. Let’s get into why we think the show deserved much more.

Apple TV+’s Servant Is a Unique Blend of Slow-Burn Horror and Brilliant Performances

I Can’t Handle This ‘Servant’ Episode That Made Me Sleep With the Lights On Even During a Rewatch
Image
Servant on Apple TV+ is one of the most mind-bending, jaw-dropping tales ever served on Ott, and you can’t tell me otherwise. It thrives on a slow-burn form of dread, the kind that lingers on, the kind that keeps you awake at night. While the entire seriously underrated show is based on bone-chilling moments that keep you on the edge of your seat, Episode 9 from Season 1, Jericho, takes the cake.

Even when I rewatch the show, years after its release, I am taken over by creepiness and can’t shake off the uncomfortable feeling it leaves me with. The episode is largely regarded as one of the scariest episodes of the show. Let’s deep-dive into this masterclass of examining human emotions of grief, denial, and the supernatural.

Why is Jericho The Scariest Servant Episode?

Jericho, Episode 9 of season 1 of Servant, catalyzes the haunting premise of the show, turning it into a gut-wrenching reality.

Scandal Cast: Where Are They Now?
Image
It’s saying something that people Still talk about Scandal years after the series closed the chapter on Olivia Pope and company.

When the series premiered, it featured some recognizable faces. Still, several actors weren’t immediately familiar to audiences, yet became big stars during the series’ primetime reign.

Now that the series has been over for seven years (!), we decided to take a look to see what the cast has been up to lately.

(ABC/Screenshot)

For some, their work has stayed in front of the camera, but several cast members have also done a lot of work behind the camera.

Star Kerry Washington has been involved in numerous projects as her career continues to rise, reaching new heights during the Scandal era.

500 lbs Giant of WWE Big Show’s Role in Van Helsing Explained
Image
It comes as no surprise that the WWE Superstars have a knack for wrestling, and sooner or later, the wrestlers make a transition in their career and hope to make it big in Tinsel Town. Over the years, renowned talents like Dwayne Johnson, John Cena, Dave Batista, Big Show, and many more have made their debut in films or TV series.

However, Show’s appearance was significantly different from his locker room colleague, as fans were confused about his role in the fantasy horror series, Van Helsing. Despite the show concluding back in 2021, fans are still confused to this day about the star’s role and what its significance was in the plot.

Interestingly, his role added a layer of depth to his brute personality, which made the show so memorable.

The Underrated Post-Apocalyptic Sci-Fi Series That Should Have Never Been Canceled
Image
Television shows — even brilliant ones — get canceled all the time. The era of network television has seen (and will see) innumerable cancellations (with shows like "Late Night Horror" being allegedly erased due to controversy), but the streaming era has fast-tracked this notion to levels never seen before. One only has to look at the long list of canceled Netflix shows that are still worth watching, some of which have been axed before they got a chance to bloom. It's rare for a nixed series to be brought back to life due to fan campaigns, but the CBS series "Jericho" accomplished this after its abrupt season 1 cancellation. This was one of those rare moments where audience sentiment eclipsed profit-oriented logic, as "Jericho" had amassed a cult following despite receiving mixed ratings in 2006. Alas, the show wasn't meant to be known for its longevity, as "Jericho" got canceled again after a second season comprising seven episodes.

Apple TV+’s Most Underrated Show Is Created by M Night Shyamalan and Boasts a 90% Rt Score
Image
In the world of diverse content on streaming platforms, Apple TV+’s Servant is another hidden gem. It’s also one of the less popular shows on the platform. Servant was created by Tony Basgallop and executive producer, the famous M. Night Shyamalan.

It is a psychological horror show that first aired on 28 November 2019 and lasted for a span of 4 seasons, till 17 March 2023. The show garnered immense critical acclaim, so much so that it has a perfect 90% score on Rotten Tomatoes. The series is a masterful blend of intense storytelling along with supernatural elements that creates the atmosphere of intense intrigue and dread.

Servant is a perfectly underrated psychological horror

The story is set in Philadelphia and revolves around the lives of the Turner Family and their nanny. Though it did not become a household name, the show is one of the most underrated series on television, and one that deserves a lot greater recognition.

1923 Stars Michelle Randolph and Aminah Nieves on Walking Away, Holding On, and Who Might Come Back

The women of 1923 didn’t just endure hardship — they embodied it.

And in the wake of a devastating finale, Michelle Randolph (Elizabeth) and Aminah Nieves (Teonna) sat down with TV Fanatic to unpack what survival really looks like when your entire world has been turned upside down.

(TV Fanatic)

For Michelle, Elizabeth’s exit from the Dutton family wasn’t bitter — it was just… empty.

“I understand why she walked away and why she should,” Michelle says, reflecting on how Elizabeth’s story mirrored the emotional wrap of filming itself.

MobLand Season 1 Episode 2 Review: Jigsaw Puzzle
Image
Tommy’s fate was revealed on MobLand Season 1 Episode 2, but I wonder how easy it will be to convince Richie Stevenson to stand down.

The second episode follows the lead of the first by humorously unfolding serious drama so that no matter how brutal the story becomes, everyone can find a way to laugh about it.

For those of us doing it right, that’s life in a nutshell.

(Luke Varley/Paramount+)

The most remarkable part of “Jigsaw Puzzle” is how Harry remains so incredibly calm through every circumstance.

He’s become so used to cleaning up after the Harrigans that it doesn’t even faze him. When he was called into the house to get rid of the bits of Archie that remained behind, he tackled it as if it were any other dirty mess.

Canceled Skeet Ulrich Drama That Had Fans Sending Nuts to CBS — Jericho Deserves a Comeback
Image
In a sea of reboots and revivals, I’m gobsmacked that one of the best shows of the last 20 years hasn’t been in contention. Yes, I’m talking about Jericho.

Picture this: It’s 2006, and a post-apocalyptic series premieres on CBS featuring a small Kansas town trying to come to terms with a devastating nuclear attack.

It would resonate today, particularly on streaming, so why am I still waiting to find out what became of Jericho’s residents?

(CBS/Screenshot)

Toplined by Skeet Ulrich, Jericho scratched the Lost itch, introducing mystery after mystery as everyone tried to comprehend what was really happening in the world against the backdrop of a mushroom cloud.

Jericho had a strong start in the ratings in Fall 2006, but the numbers steadily declined until CBS pulled the plug and announced it had been canceled following its freshman season.

One year later, remembering Star Trek: Discovery actor Kenneth Mitchell
Image
February 24 marked the first anniversary of Star Trek: Discovery actor Kenneth Mitchell’s death following five years of living with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (Als), commonly referred to as Lou Gehrig’s disease. Mitchell, post-diagnosis, made the most of every moment as a husband, father, friend, and actor, and it’s well worth taking a look back at what he accomplished during his 49 years on Earth.

Hailing from Toronto, Canada, Mitchell initially gained traction as a model before shifting to acting. He amassed nearly 50 film and television credits before his death. Among those credits were the movies Miracle and Captain Marvel, recurring or series regular roles on Odyssey 5, Jericho, Ghost Whisperer, Switched at Birth, The Astronaut Wives Club, Frequency, Nancy Drew, and The Old Man, as well as numerous guest shots. He was, of course, best known for portraying the Klingon characters Kol, Kol-Sha, and Tenavik, as well as Aurellio,...

Rafi Gavron and Shiloh Fernandez Join Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey’ Ensemble (Exclusive)
Image
Rafi Gavron and Shiloh Fernandez have joined the ensemble of Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey,” sources close to the actors confirm.

The Universal film’s previously announced cast members include Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong’o, Robert Pattinson, Charlize Theron, Benny Safdie, Jon Bernthal and John Leguizamo.

Universal shared in December that the film “is a mythic action epic shot across the world using brand new Imax film technology. The film brings Homer’s foundational saga to Imax film screens for the first time.”

Homer’s ancient Greek epic poem “The Odyssey” remains one of the oldest pieces of literature still read by modern audiences. It chronicles the story of Greek hero Odysseus during his tumultuous journey home following the Trojan War.

Gavron is best known for his role in “A Star is Born” for director Bradley Cooper, opposite Cooper and Lady Gaga. He began his career...

Is William Shatner's TekWar really a hidden gem that deserves to be revisited?
Image
When it comes to William Shatner, the first thing we all think of is his turn as James T. Kirk on Star Trek: The Original Series and its subsequent films. After that, we probably think of Rescue: 911, T.J. Hooker, Boston Legal, his Priceline commercials, and maybe his many cameos across television. Somewhere after his latest Rt show, and right after a random photo of him riding a horse, we get to TekWar.

What is TekWar, you ask? Well, it's William Shatner's attempt to create a hip and timely story of the growing concerns around internet addiction and the rampant drug use of the late 1980s and early 1990s. It started as a book series, which was mostly written by Ron Goulart, even if Shatner came up with the idea, and later became a television show.

It's basically the plot of Demolition Man but with less fun. Starring Greg Evigan as...

The 25 Best Post-Apocalyptic TV Shows of All Time
Image
The TV adaptation of the video game series Fallout has recently shed new light on post-apocalyptic TV shows, delivering an alternate future that few would like to experience, but is highly entertaining to follow. Post-apocalyptic stories date back to 1826, when legendary author Mary Shelley birthed the thrilling subgenre with her dystopian novel The Last Man (1826). The movie industry only began making post-apocalyptic stories much later. That said, television has also given viewers some inventive stories about survivors coming to terms with living on a destroyed Earth.

The best post-apocalyptic TV shows often have creative ideas for presenting their take on the subgenre. Whether it be zombies, aliens, or some other inexplicable disaster, these series succeed in balancing character dynamics, intimidating threats, and bleak yet visually stunning environments. From popular series like The Last of Us and The Walking Dead to underrated gems like Jericho and Falling Skies, these are the...

5 sci-fi/fantasy shows that were canceled too soon
Image
Some shows are canceled way before their time, leaving us with major cliffhangers and questions. The axe can often come for sci-fi and fantasy shows, since they often have bigger budgerts than other kinds of series. We’re looking back at five shows that were canceled way too soon.

In some cases, these shows just needed another few episodes of a movie to wrap things up, or maybe they got their chance to finish things but didn't do in a way that did the rest of the show justice. In some cases, they wrapped things up well, but that doesn’t mean we don’t want more.

2024 saw some major cancellations. However, this list will take us back a few years (or even decades)!

This Netflix series deserved better. The Oa was always intended to be a five-season show, and you could tell. Netflix feared that the...

Is a Fan Campaign Enough to Save ‘The Acolyte’? Here’s Why It Might Not Be
Image
If you’ve been keeping up with Star Wars news recently, you’ll know that ‘Star Wars: The Acolyte,’ the latest addition to the franchise, has been canceled after just 8 episodes. The show faced controversy even before its premiere, and its poor quality, combined with a hefty $180 million budget, only made matters worse for everyone involved.

Although the show started off well, with viewership numbers just slightly below ‘Ahsoka,’ it quickly began to lose viewers week after week, and criticism on social media intensified.

Despite its cancellation, The Acolyte has managed to gather a devoted fanbase that’s now pushing for Disney+ to renew the show. The hashtag #SaveTheAcolyte is trending on X (formerly Twitter), and a Change.org petition has already garnered 43,342 signatures. But what are the chances of the show actually getting renewed?

Historically, fan campaigns have successfully brought back several shows. When Fox canceled Lucifer after its...

If you’re following Star Wars news in the last couple of days, you know that ‘Star Wars: The Acolyte’ – the latest installment in the franchise, has been canceled after only 8 episodes. The show started out strong, with viewership numbers being only slightly worse than ‘Ahsoka’s,’ but week after week it was losing viewers, and the criticism on social media only became worse.

Hollywood Loves Drama Of Kamala Harris’ Veepstakes Decision, But Has A Clear Favorite
Image
Exclusive: If all goes to plan, America and the world will know in the next few hours who Kamala Harris has picked to be her running mate against Donald Trump and J.D. Vance. However, in the corridors of Hollywood power and money, an overwhelming favorite choice has emerged.

“Josh Shapiro,” one agency executive declares in a statement echoed around town today. “Pennsylvania wins the election,” the exec promptly added of why the Keystone Stone state’s governor would be the best fit for the Vice President and presumptive Democratic nominee’s just over two-week-long White House bid in a still tight Electoral College battle with Trump.

With the Veep decision coming down to the wire ahead of the Democrats’ convention in Chicago starting on August 19, Gov. Shapiro, along with Gov. Tim Walz of Minnesota and Sen. Mark Kelly (D-az), individually met with the vice president over the weekend at her official residence near DC.

Emmy Song Category Draws Submissions From the Weeknd, Sara Bareilles, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Mark Ronson, Pasek & Paul and Other Big Music Names
Image
Songwriters Benj Pasek and Justin Paul are on the verge of Egot status… that is, if Emmy voters nominate their song from “Only Murders in the Building” and it winds up winning three months from now.

Pasek and Paul — already Oscar winners for “La La Land” and Tony and Grammy winners for “Dear Evan Hansen” — could finally manage that feat with the witty comic patter song “Which of the Pickwick Triplets Did It?,” sung by Steve Martin and co-written with fellow Tony and Grammy winners Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman for the third season of the Hulu comedy-drama.

They are among the many prominent songwriters who have entered songs in this year’s Emmy competition. Voting began Thursday, with approximately 550 members of the Television Academy music peer group eligible to vote in seven music categories. Voting ends June 24 and the nominations will be announced July 17.

Best TV Shows That Were Canceled And Brought Back
Image
Typically, when a TV show gets canceled, the likelihood of it returning due to fan outcry is quite low. In this current age of television, many shows from popular networks and streaming services end up getting axed left and right. However, there are a few rare exceptions where pleas and demands from loyal viewers help earn certain shows an extra life.

For example, CBS' S.W.A.T. was once canceled after its sixth season, only for the network to reverse the decision shortly after. The procedural recently announced that it will be getting an eighth season after many believed it was going to end after its seventh. S.W.A.T. follows in the footsteps of several other TV shows that were canceled and then brought back, with some examples including Community, Family Guy, and Brooklyn Nine-Nine.

Skeet Ulrich in Jericho (2006)
Snowpiercer Rescued by AMC with Rights to All Seasons, Including the Unaired Fourth
Skeet Ulrich in Jericho (2006)
Patience is a virtue, especially if you're a sci-fi fan.

When it comes to genre TV, science fiction and sci-fi adjacent programs are often saved when unceremoniously dumped by a network.

Jericho, Lucifer, The Expanse, and Stargate Sg-1 all found new life after cancellation. Today, Snowpiercer joins that list.

AMC Networks announced today that it has acquired the exclusive U.S. linear and streaming rights to all four seasons of the post-apocalyptic drama series Snowpiercer.

The first three seasons of the critically acclaimed drama will stream on AMC+ later this year, leading up to the series’ season four premiere on AMC and AMC+ in early 2025.
