The Paramount co-ceo threesome of Chris McCarthy, George Cheeks and Brian Robbins is apt to look quite different once the Skydance-Paramount merger goes through in late March-early April, according to sources and not surprisingly. However, we hear that no decisions have been made on the comings and goings of McCarthy, Cheeks and Robbins.

A Bloomberg article Tuesday reported that of the three, only Cheeks is bound to survive once incoming CEO and Paramount buyer David Ellison arrives. This in addition to further consolidation of the conglom’s TV assets.

Those familiar with the Skydance-Paramount merger tell us that Ellison has yet to have talks with McCarthy and Robbins about their futures under the new merger.

Paramount and Vizio are launching a dedicated pop-up channel for Paramount Plus through the free, ad-supported streaming service Vizio WatchFree Plus (stylized as WatchFree+), the companies announced on Thursday.

The channel will leverage Vizio’s Content Connection tool that allows streamers to seamlessly transition from WatchFree Plus to Paramount Plus while they are watching content through the pop-up channel, which will include episodes of “Tulsa King,” “Frasier,” “Dexter” and “Special Ops: Lioness,” among others.

Patrick Dempsey is revealing that there have been talks about his potential return to the Scream franchise as Kincaid.

The actor appeared on Today on Thursday to discuss The Dempsey Center, which provides comprehensive cancer care at no cost. While speaking on the morning talk show, he also opened up about Scream 7 and how Neve Campbell is returning for the installment after not appearing in the sixth one due to a salary dispute.

Campbell’s Sidney and Dempsey’s Kincaid are married in the Scream universe, so when the talk show hosts asked if he could potentially come back to fight Ghostface, he shared it’s possible.

The murder mystery limited series, which stars Nicole Kidman, Liev Schreiber and Dakota Fanning, accumulated 1.91 billion minutes of viewing for the week of Sept. 2-8 (it premiered on Sept. 5). That’s the fifth highest total for any original series premiere week on the streaming charts this year, behind Fool Me Once (3.04 billion minutes), Fallout (2.9 billion), Bridgerton (2.76 billion) and Netflix’s live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender (2.56 billion).

The Perfect Couple was one of five titles to record more than a billion minutes of viewing for the week. The second season of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power opened to big viewing numbers in the United States — just not as big as its first season.

The Prime Video series amassed 1.02 billion minutes of viewing in the United States for the week of Aug. 26-Sept. 1, good for first place among original series and second among all titles in Nielsen’s streaming rankings. Season two premiered on Aug. 29 with three episodes, and Nielsen says about 70 percent of the show’s weekly total was for those three, with the remainder devoted to season one. Paramount+’s communication team has been hit by Paramount Global’s latest round of layoffs as part of its 15% reduction of its U.S. workforce. Senior vice presidents Morgan Seal and Amanda Cary are among those impacted, TheWrap has learned.

During Seal’s 13-year tenure, she helped lead publicity for the streamer’s Taylor Sheridan and Star Trek universe shows. She joined CBS Interactive’s comms team in 2011 before transitioning to the Paramount+ team in 2019.

Cary joined Showtime in 2013 and was promoted to SVP in 2022. There, she worked on publicity for series such as “Dexter” and “Yellowjackets,” before moving to Paramount+ last year. Prior to working with Showtime, she spent five years at USA Network, helping to launch series that included blue-sky classics “Suits” and “Covert Affairs.”

Updated with more info: We had been hearing for weeks that Paramount+, which was spared in the first wave of Paramount Global’s ongoing layoffs last month, would take the brunt of cuts in the second round. That has been happening today, with entire departments eliminated as Paramount+ faces an uncertain future ahead of Paramount Global’s acquisition by Skydance.

One of the units that essentially is being dissolved is Paramount+’s communications operation, with SVPs Morgan Seal, Amanda Cary and Deva Kehoe among those impacted. The move was foreshadowed last week by the departure of Erin Calhoun, who oversaw the department as EVP, Head of Communications, Paramount Streaming & Showtime and Cross-Company Publicity. Seal, Cary and Kehoe all reported to her.

“Dexter: Original Sin” is rounding out its cast, adding Eli Sherman, London Thatcher and Sarah Kinsey to the prequel series, TheWrap can exclusively reveal.

Eli Sherman will play Dexter as a young child, meaning the series will officially bring together three different iterations of the serial killer; Patrick Gibson is of course leading the series as a young adult Dexter, and Og Dexter Morgan Michael C. Hall is returning to lend his voiceover to the series.

Sarah Kinsey will also be playing a familiar face to “Dexter” fans, as she’ll be taking over as Camilla Figg, Miami Metro’s file clerk, and one of Harry Morgan’s closest confidantes. Figg was played by Margo Martindale in the original series.

Meanwhile, London Thatcher will be playing Nicky Spencer, the son of Captain Aaron Spencer (Patrick Dempsey).

“Dexter: Original Sin” takes place in 1991 and follows Dexter (Gibson) as he transitions from student to avenging serial killer.

AMC made a bet earlier this year that licensing a number of its shows to Netflix would help them find more viewers. That bet appears to have paid off.

Two AMC shows, Dark Winds and A Discovery of Witches, are among the top 10 streaming titles for the week of Aug. 19-25. They were added to Netflix at the beginning of that week as part of a deal struck in July to place about a dozen AMC shows on the service, complete with branding as the “AMC Collection.” (The shows will be available for 12 months.)

It’s not new territory for AMC, which partially credited Netflix for a huge spike in ratings for Breaking Bad’s final season and has also licensed The Walking Dead and Better Call Saul, among others, to the streamer in the past.

Dark Winds drew 929 million minutes of viewing for the week, good for fourth place overall.
