Young Kay Harker returns home for The Christmas break from boarding school, on his train journey home, he encounters two conmen, both dressed as men of God, who fleece him, and a Punch and Judy man, who warns of impending evil.
It's just lovely, for many it simply wouldn't be Christmas without visiting this classic, it really does hold a piece of Christmas childhood for me, and I watch with a rather sentimental heart, so expect a series review to be perhaps a little overly sweet.
Expect a world of mystery and magic, with strange creatures, a menacing villain and some really lovely production values.
For a children's show it looks very good, the lighting is terrific, and the music sounds as though it was lifted from a Peter Davison Doctor Who episode, and speaking of Doctor Who, what could be better than Patrick Troughton playing a Punch and Judy entertainer.
8/10.
