Outlaw or Bandida: A Número Um, the Brazilian Netflix Original, is all about Rebeca and her life of crime in the favelas of Rio de Janeiro. Based on the book ‘A Número Um’ by Raquel de Oliveira, the movie chronicles the life of Rebeca and the other characters that either hate her to the point of wanting her dead or become a big part of her life that contributes to making her become a strong person.
Spoilers Ahead
Rebeca
Maria Bomani, as Rebeca, has only seen the worst side of the people close to her. Her grandmother sold her off to the person she owed money to without thinking twice, and ever since, Rebeca has been working like a slave for Amoroso, the local gangster in Rocinha favela. Life is not easy for her, but she uses everything in her capacity to remain alive and not let anyone else control her life.

Outlaw is the English title for the Brazilian Netflix film Bandida: A Número Um. This is one of the many crime dramas about Brazil and the drug dealing underworld that thrives in the city of Rio de Janeiro. Dom on Amazon Prime Video and City of God are some of the prominent stories about the crime rings that festered in the slums, aka favelas, of Rio, and how they began to affect the people. Directed by João Wainer, the movie is based on a book written by Raquel de Oliveira, titled A Número Um. Outlaw was released on Netflix on September 11, 2024.
The movie is set in the year 1992 in the favelas of Rio de Janeiro, where a young girl named Rebeca was living with her hardworking mother. The movie began with the scene of police attacking her den. As a result, she was making cassettes and recording her life story before she was rescued or,...

Sometimes, you watch a film and just tell yourself that they should have made a documentary instead. João Wainer’s 2024 film Outlaw (originally titled Bandida: A Número Um) is no different. The director has tried to shoot the film in a documentary format to make it look as realistic as he can, but a disjointed narrative ruins it all. You can clearly see that there is no story at all. The screenplay conveniently jumps across time periods to show different stages in the protagonist’s life and after a point, it becomes quite evident that nothing much happened in between. At the end of the day, Outlaw looks more like a home video edited on a Windows Movie Maker using all the filters available in the software. I haven’t read the non-fiction book by Raquel de Oliveira, on which the film is based, but as much as I grasped from the movie,...

For example, the Lotus map is now available for ranked matches in consoles. For the agents, Iso and Raze are getting some nerfs with this patch, while Neon gets a buff. However, there is one change that fans haven’t liked at all.

The American Western may have long passed its heyday, but the genre has endured throughout the years. While the visuals and ideas it addresses may change, the basic foundation continues to draw fans. After all, where else can you pit man versus man versus the environment on such a large scale? The Dead Don’t Hurt seeks to continue this legacy. The sophomore feature from Viggo Mortensen finally debuts in America after hitting the fall festival circuit. Featuring an excellent performance from Vicky Krieps as its face, The Dead Don’t Hurt mostly plays like a traditional genre exercise. However, using an immigrant couple at its center speaks to the changing landscape in American life.
The Dead Don’t Hurt Plot
Vivienne Le Coudy (Krieps) passes away with her husband, Holger (Mortensen), at her side. At the same time, Mayor Rudolph Schiller (Danny Huston) requests Holger help bring a local crime to justice.

Copenhagen-based TrustNordisk has just picked up international rights to the Danish drama “Home” by actor-turned director Marijana Jankovic (“The House that Jack Built”).
For her debut feature after 2019’s multi-awarded short film “Maja,” a best short winner at Tribeca, Jankovic has assembled an impressive A-list international cast.
This includes Dejan Cukic (“Snabba Cash”), Nada Sargin (“The Mould”), Zlatko Buric (“Triangle of Sadness”), Claes Bang (“The Square”), Jesper Christensen, Trine Dyrholm (“The Girl With the Needle”) and Lene Maria Christensen (“Unruly”).
Based on a script co-penned by Jankovic with the seasoned Bo Hr. Hansen, behind Thomas Vinterberg’s upcoming series “Families like Ours,” a hit at MipTV, and Babak Vakili (“Outlaw”), the story is inspired by the director’s own experience, and feelings of and reflections on uprootedness.

Reach for the sky cause Mario Van Peebles has returned to the old West! In 1993, Mario Van Peebles dabbled in the Western genre with Posse, which he had written, directed, and starred in. Now, Peebles has gotten back into the director’s chair for a new feature he wrote called Outlaw Posse. The trailer has now been released courtesy of Quiver Distribution and features Mario Van Peebles acting alongside his son, Mandela, who also plays his son in the movie. This keeps the tradition of the Van Peebles filmmaking lineage rolling along as Mario was also heavily involved with his father, Melvin Van Peebles’ film career. Mario would even make a biopic where he portrayed his own father with the film Baadasssss!, which is a play on the title of Melvin’s famous movie Sweet Sweetback’s Baadasssss Song.

Tipping their Stetsons to a passel of 1960s Spaghetti Westerns — everything from “A Fistful of Dollars” to “They Call Me Trinity” — and the sort of 1970s Blaxploitation oaters that once provided steady employment for Fred Williamson, director-star Michael Jai White and co-star (and co-writer) Byron Keith Minns have cobbled together “Outlaw Johnny Black,” a fitfully funny but uncomfortably overlong entertainment best appreciated by movie buffs who share the pair’s affection for the genre tropes and stereotypes they seriocomically recycle.
Not nearly as free-wheeling and fleet-footed as “Black Dynamite,” the 2009 satirical comedy that cast White as a Shaft-like action hero, the new film nonetheless provides more than a few good laughs, even when it seems to be taking horse opera clichés a tad too respectfully, and showcases a fine cast of actors dedicated to both the silliness and the seriousness of the enterprise.

In January 2009, during a midnight screening at Sundance, Michael Jai White knew he had something special in Black Dynamite. Nine months later, the Blaxploitation spoof’s limited theatrical release and minimal box office gross didn’t stop its immediate fate as a cult classic. Demand for a sequel soon followed, and so White, as co-writer of the film, penned a direct sequel that struggled to get off the ground due to creative differences with a producer.
Consequently, White went back to the drawing board and pursued an idea he had at the same time as Black Dynamite’s conception. If that action-comedy paid homage to Blaxploitation films through parody, then it would only make sense to take a similar approach with other genres. So, White revisited his earlier ideas for three other genre exercises including a horror movie, a kung fu movie and a Western. That Western is now known as Outlaw Johnny Black,...

"Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3" was a bittersweet movie. It will be the last time we'll see all these characters united, but not to fret. If you're in the mood for a story about misfits flying around from adventure to adventure in a starship, you're blessed with possibilities.
"Firefly," the cult classic space western by "The Avengers" director Joss Whedon, is an obvious one -- its influence hangs over the "Guardians" films. "Firefly," though, owed its own debts to past science fiction. There's a persistent rumor that the image of the naked River Tam (Summer Glau) in a box was taken from a nearly identical shot in a 1998 anime. The anime in question? "Outlaw Star."
Set in the far future when mankind has colonized the stars, our lead is Gene Starwind, who dreams of traveling space yet has been grounded since his father died in a pirate attack years prior.

– “So why did you become a yakuza?”
– “Do you need a reason to become a yakuza in this country?”
When Shoichi Yomi (Hiroyuki Watanabe) takes on a kamikaze mission to eradicate a rival crime faction single-handedly, it ends tragically with him in a coma, tied to a hospital bed.
10 years later, Yomi wakes up to everyone’s surprise, only to see that the power lines have shifted, and new alliances formed. He seeks out his old buddy Eto (Tatsuo Yamada), but it becomes clear soon that too many people would have preferred for him to stay comatose. Yomi is banished to Hiroshima on some false pretence, where he starts putting together a comeback and revenge plot to settle the debt once and for all.
“Shinjuku Outlaw” is an deceptively ordinary Miike film. It’s one of Miike’s numerous V-Cinema (straight to video) entries that deals its cards fast and dirty.

The Mavericks have never been averse to putting their own spin on another band’s song. This is a group, after all, who once recorded their own Tejano/surf-rock take on Motley Crue’s “Dr. Feelgood.” Now the Mavericks will release an entire album of covers, Play the Hits, on November 1st via their own label Mono Mundo Recordings.
A collection of songs originally recorded by Bruce Springsteen, Waylon Jennings, and Elvis Presley, it’s a way to further illustrate the eclecticism of the group, says singer Raul Malo.

NBC’s new legal drama Bluff City Law marks Jimmy Smits’ return to the world of legal drama, having starred on L.A. Law, Outlaw and White House drama The West Wing. That said, you would think this would be old hat to the Emmy- and Golden Globe-winning actor, but at TCA, he told us otherwise.
“There was lots of brushing up [to do],” Smits said about getting back into the TV legal game. “You try to take the best from the experience you had.” He added that his Elijah Strait character on Bluff City Law is a lot different from L.A. Law‘s Victor Sifuentes and that he “doesn’t have a lot of balance.”
Co-created by Dean Georgaris and Michael Aguilar and written by Georgaris, Bluff City Law is a character-driven drama that follows the lawyers of an elite Memphis firm that specializes in the most controversial landmark civil rights cases.

Country singer Sam Outlaw has released an unconventional new project that combines songs with surreal vignettes. Dubbed Hat Acts, the Ep opens with the sounds of a country bar and a woman in search of a smoking partner. That sets up the first of three songs: “Cigarette” is a weeper about addictive love that goes hand-in-hand with the Ep’s final track, the equally forlorn “Humility.”
It’s Hat Acts‘ midpoint song, however, that shows off Outlaw’s gift for rollicking barroom fare. “Shake a Heartache” finds the Nashville (by...

Many know the tale of William Wallace, the Scottish knight who was a prominent leader in the First War of Scottish Independence, as portrayed by Mel Gibson in a wee film called Braveheart. Now, picture Wallace’s severed head hung from a monument in the town square. This is the atmosphere of Outlaw King, an epic set against the backdrop of a crippled Scotland itching for justice. Positioned as a long-gestating passion project for Scotsman helmer David Mackenzie, Outlaw King is a sincere war picture with ferocious violence and an inconsistent but righteously beating heart.
It’s 1304. King Edward I of England proclaims himself as Lord Paramount of Scotland, and Scottish nobility across the land are drawn into a reluctant agreement to pay taxes and kneel to a King crowned through coercion and war. Prominent among these taxed families is Robert the Bruce (Chris Pine), who is soon compelled into...

Chris Pine is focused on his work—and everything else is just noise. With Outlaw premiering Nov. 9 on Netflix, E! News recently sat down to interview the actor and one of his co-stars, Aaron Taylor-Johnson. Set in the 1300s, the historical drama stars Pine as King of Scots, Robert the Bruce, who waged a war over England's occupation of Scotland. Directed and co-written by David Mackenzie, the gritty period piece was filmed on location Scotland. "I love the geography of it," Pine said of the country. "It's a beautiful, beautiful culture full of exactly what you'd expect: rolling green fields, huge cliffs overlooking the ocean, falling waterfalls." Because the film was made by Netflix...

Before introducing the director of this year’s opening night film at Tiff, festival artistic director Cameron Bailey said his group is always looking for “filmmaking craft which shows just what big screen filmmaking can do.”
The audience got that and then some with David Mackenzie’s bursting-at-the-seems Scottish war epic “Outlaw King,” which stars Chris Pine and played for the first time ever at Toronto’s Princess of Wales Theater.
Pine stars as Robert the Bruce, the historic warrior-king who helped wrestle the crown of Scotland from British control and establish the country as independent in the 1300s. To Americans, Robert the Bruce is probably most famous for being played by Angus Macfadyen in Mel Gibson’s Oscar-winning William Wallace biopic “Braveheart,” and yes “Outlaw King” repays the favor by also featuring Wallace as a character. This is notable because you’re sure to hear a lot of comparisons of the films from viewers,...

Ksenia Ratushnaya’s Outlaw is only the fourth Lgbt Russian film to be made.
Shooting has begun in Moscow of Russian director Ksenia Ratushnaya’s feature debut Outlaw. The film’s Lgbt subject matter is set to attract controversy in Russia where the distribution of a film that depicts a homosexual relationship can attract heavy fines.
Victor Tarasenko, Lisa Kashintseva, and Gleb Kalyuzhny star in the film that takes place in modern day Moscow and the Soviet Union of the 1980s. It tells the story of a high-school student who is coming to terms with his awakening homosexuality and a mysterious girl he befriends.

"With Great Power Comes Zero Responsibility"
Here's a new superhero movie with a different kind of flavor than you're used to tasting. It's a dark comedy called American Hero, and it stars Stephen Dorff (Blade) as a guy who has telekinetic abilities. Of course, he doesn't use them for anything worthwhile. He's basically just a major screw-up, but after hitting rock bottom, he is looking to change his life and start fighting crime. This actually looks like it could be a fun flick! Here's the synopsis:
Melvin (Stephen Dorff), a reluctant hero who is far from super, has been suppressing his telekinetic powers for years with booze, drugs, and women. In the process, he has failed at practically everything, most of all as a parent to his son. After a brush with death, Melvin decides to use his powers for good and clean up the streets of New Orleans with...

As well as the BBC series, there’s now another TV take on Robin Hood on the way (based on The Outlaw Chronicles books)…
We’ve reported before on the Robin Hood: Origins movie that is in the works with Lionsgate and Leonardo DiCaprio’s company. There’s also the BBC America TV series Nottingham (with its bizarre premise) in development.
Now, there’s another Robin Hood project on the way – a TV series from FremantleMedia (specifically their North American branch), based on The Outlaw Chronicles novels by British author Angus Donald.
FremantleMedia is a bit of a behemoth, with everything from The Bill to The X-Factor - and Wizards Vs. Aliens, on a geekier note – coming from their UK team. We’d expect this series to be a bigger budget affair, though, to be honest, if the American market is the target.

Ricky Gervais has confirmed that The Office's David Brent will be heading to the big screen with his own movie, Life on the Road.
So as we anticipate what Brent has been up to since the end of the BBC hit comedy, here's what the cast have done since:
Ricky Gervais
Ricky Gervais played the lead role as David Brent - the embarrassing, toe-curling and cringeworthy boss of company Wernham Hogg, devoid of self-awareness but poised with an unwavering love for the paper merchants he manages.
Gervais went on to create comedy Extras with Stephen Merchant, which was co-produced by the BBC and HBO and aired between 2005 and 2007. Gervais played ambitious actor Andy Millman, afflicted with a useless agent played by Merchant. Guest stars have included Patrick Stewart, Samuel L Jackson, Ben Stiller and Kate Winslet.
In 2009, Gervais starred in, wrote and directed his feature comedy debut The Invention of Lying.
