Craig Kyle, who served as executive producer on the first two Thor films, is going to have a new responsibility on the next sequel. Marvel has hired their very own to be a fulltime screenwriter, beginning by co-writing Thor 3 with Christopher Yost.

His creative instincts have helped shape ‘Thor’ and ‘Thor: The Dark World’ at every level of the filmmaking process. When you look back at the amount of times the Hulk has been adapted to other mediums, one might think he’s Marvel’s flagship character.
I know some people may balk at that, but let’s do a brief count here: There was the Marvel Super Heroes animated series in the 60s, which was basically a motion comic. The Incredible Hulk live-action TV show from 1978-1982 (with some attempted revivals in the early 90s). The Incredible Hulk animated series in the 80s, followed in the 90s by another series of the same name. The upcoming Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H. animated series. There were the Hulk Vs and Planet Hulk direct-to-video animations. He was a regular cast member of The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes animated series and is currently part of the cast for the new Avengers Assemble animated series. And he...

With all signs pointing to D.C. getting out of the original direct-to-dvd animated movie (or at least, making their footprint in the area noticeably smaller), maybe Marvel thinks this is the right time to step in. This wouldn’t be the first time Marvel has done original direct-to-dvd animated movies. They’ve achieved some measure of success with a pair of “Ultimate Avengers” titles, there was also a Doctor Strange flick that I quiet enjoyed, Iron Man, and of course, their Asian-created “X-Men” and “Blade” line of TV series. According to Marvel writer Jeph Loeb (via a podcast with something called Word Balloon), Marvel has plans for a new original animated movie starring everyone’s favorite skull-wearing vigilante, The Punisher. Not only Frank Castle and his war van (and, one assumes, Microchip as well — what’s Punisher without Microchip in the war van?), but also the Black Widow will be appearing.

"Doctor Strange" was the fourth animated film produced by Lionsgate based on Marvel Comics characters, following "Ultimate Avengers", "Ultimate Avengers 2" and "The Invincible Iron Man" :
"...'Dr. Stephen Strange' is one of the most gifted surgeons in medicine, however, he is also highly arrogant and dismissive of his colleagues.

Marvel’s blockbuster smash-hit The Avengers has now arrived on Blu-Ray, finally making the entirety of the company’s ‘Phase One’ available on home video. I know I will not be the only one re-creating the theatrical ‘Ultimate Avengers Marathon’ from the comfort of my living room over the next few days.
In any case, now seems like a good time to reflect on ‘Phase One’ as a whole. I for one believe Marvel Studios has crafted a pretty darn great set of movies, an interconnected superhero anthology that will stand the test of time as some of the best this genre has to offer. The studio clearly understands their own properties better than any outsiders ever could, creating live-action renditions that are incredibly faithful to the spirit of the original. And by hiring an eclectic group of writers, directors, and performers – many of whom initially seemed like counterintuitive choices...

TNT’s Leverage swings back into action tonight at 8/7c, in a new (yet not new) locale. Coming off the events of Season 4′s finale, Nate’s team bid Beantown adieu and set up shop in Portland – aka the city where the caper drama has filmed all these years. Also new: Hardison and Parker are “out” with their romance, so we thought it a good time to chat up Aldis Hodge about that fun dynamic. Plus: Why Leverage‘s master hacker wants to suit up as a certain Marvel hero.

Who was that in the mid-credits scene of The Amazing Spider-Man? Well, in case you didn't recognise the voice or checked out the cast list on IMDb immediately after seeing the film, it was actually actor Michael Massee (credited only as "Man in the Shadows"). He's best known for playing small screen baddies in the likes of 24, Flashforward and Supernatural. He even has prior experience with the Marvel Universe, having voicied Bruce Banner in both Ultimate Avengers animated movies. Most of you will have probably seen the film by now, but here's a reminder of how the mid-credits scene plays out. As Curt Connors is led into a jail cell, lightening strikes and a mysterious figure appears... Man in the Shadows: Hello doctor. Did you tell the boy? Curt Connors: Tell him what? Man in the Shadows: Did you tell the boy about his father? Curt Connors: No. Man in the Shadows: Well,...

Marvel has been getting talked about a lot these last few years. With The Avengers in theaters recently, it seems that Marvel is the king of comic book films. Things might change after the general consensus of The Amazing Spiderman comes in, but even that can’t ruin Marvel’s name like The Green Lantern did for DC (to an extent).
DC, in my opinion, has the better selection of animated films. That probably has to do with the fact that DC has better stories, and more “mature” characters. With that said, Marvel’s animated films are fun, and with the next Spiderman film coming out, I thought now is a better time than any to talk about which ones I like the most.
Planet Hulk
Planet Hulk is probably my favorite of the Marvel animated films. It takes the story of Hulk being thrown, in a spaceship, off Earth...

With their wealth of characters, it’s always struck me as rather odd (or at least, a very big missed opportunity) that Marvel doesn’t do enough in terms of original animated movies. There’s really nothing to stop them from exploiting the direct-to-dvd animated market the way D.C. is doing in their partnership with Warner Bros. Sure, D.C. tends to get fixated on Batman and Superman, but you really can’t fault them for going back to the well so often, given that Bats and Supes continue to sell. I would imagine they’ll stop double/triple/quadruple dipping only when those two guys stop producing. After giving the direct-to-dvd animated platform a go in 2006 with two “Ultimate Avengers” movie, then following that up with “Planet Hulk” in 2010, Marvel is jumping back into the animated game with a “Big Hero 6″ movie. Wait. “Big Hero 6″? Who the hell is “Big Hero 6″? Well,...

With a sequel to The Avengers officially confirmed by Marvel/Disney, comic book fans the world over will be contemplating which of the publisher’s other heroes could be added to the line-up, potentially getting their own solo movie as soon as 2014 – filling the popularly acknowledged gap in the schedule alongside Captain America 2 that summer.
Of course, we have to bear in mind that Marvel Studios do not own the film rights to characters as key to their comic book universe as Daredevil, Spider-Man, Wolverine or the Fantastic Four – all of whom have allied with or become members of the Avengers at one time or another – but with that consideration in place, here is another suggestion for Marvel’s Next Avengers Film:
Black Panther (King T’Challa of Wakanda)

As The Avengers ravages box office records worldwide, Disney announces the release date for the Blu-Ray/DVD of the hit smash.
Do you have an itching to see Disney's The Avengers again? Well...you can just walk down the street and see it on one of the four screens that your movie theater is probably showing it on. But if you're counting down the days until you can add the film to your movie collection, I have good news for you; Disney isn't going to make you wait that long. In fact, the release date and box art for the film have already been announced today, a mere two weeks after the film opened!
I don't know why Disney has been announcing there DVD's so early, but I guess it's pretty cool. Maybe there's some clever marketing ploy behind it? I honestly don't know. But this is the second time...

With Joss Whedon's The Avengers a mere weekend away, now is as good a time as any to binge on Avengers-related material--so why not Marvel's animated films based on the Ultimate Avengers comics? Fortunately, they've just been released in one Blu-ray pack and what holds true for the bulk of Marvel’s animated features released through Lionsgate seems to not apply to their first two films, Ultimate Avengers and Ultimate Avengers 2. They may be the oldest animated features in Marvel’s collection, but the animation used is very smooth and straightforward, lacking the unfortunate attempts at 3D animation or the overly cartoonish style and concept that made Next Avengers: Heroes of Tomorrow (also included) feel like a bad attempt to cash in on previous success. The set is a nice pack of two great Marvel flicks that do a good job of introducing the assembly of heroes as well...

This week, Warner Bros. releases the Oscar-winning musical "Camelot" on Blu-ray. (The release is tied to the film's 45th anniversary.) We have an exclusive look at the special new edition of the Arthurian classic, along with the full breakdown of this week's entire slate of DVDs and Blu-rays. Moviefone's Pick of the Week "The Innkeepers" What's It About? Two low-rent ghost hunters try to uncover the truth behind the real-life (and supposedly haunted) Yankee Pedlar Inn of Connecticut. Naturally, their ghostbusting ways are unprepared for the real supernatural horror that exists inside the hotel. See It Because: It's only with the smallest bit of hyperbole that we're calling director Ti West, "The most interesting new voice in the world of American horror movies." With ominous art direction and creeping camera-work, West's filmmaking style has earned him more comparisons to Roman Polanski and Stanley Kubrick, than the slasher schlock of the genre.

As you might imagine, studios are combing their libraries to find related items to reissue to tie in with the frenzy surrounding the May 3 opening of The Avengers. Coming Tuesday are two more discs that come closest to the feature film, a sextet of Marvel Animation films in two sets. Making their Blu-ray debut, the first set is Ultimate Avengers Movie Collection which contains the two animated films based on the successful Ultimates comic, along with the bonus film Next Avengers: Heroes of Tomorrow. The other Blu-ray set is merely dubbed Marvel Animated Features and contains Planet Hulk, Invincible Iron Man, and Doctor Strange.
Both Ultimate films pretty closely follow the initial Ultimates arcs from Mark Millar and Bryan Hitch although the script is better at aping Millar than the animation is following Hitch’s naturalistic style. A significant change is that Tony Stark’s identity remains a secret and...

One of the things that I've watched unfold from my small corner of the online movie community is the need for several online movie peeps to be the first to tweet about their (indeed) fortunate privilege to watch an early screening of a hyped movie. Yesterday it was for The Avengers, and as is typical of several of these personalities, the tweets began and started to answer most of the heavy geek questions like, "Who are the aliens that Loki commands?" and "What's the end credits scene show?"
Shit like this doesn't drive me as bonkers as it used to but, that said, I can't help but do some eye-rolling. I'm not going to single out anyone in particular as I think that this is a collective act happening. One person can't help but say something about The Avengers and then that unleashes a tide of tweets from multiple individuals.

We had the pleasure of speaking with Emmy-nominated composer David Ari Leon whose work can be heard on many super hero cartoons and specials such as Spider-Man Unlimited (1999-2001), Ultimate Avengers (2006), Planet Hulk (2010), and The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes (2011). He most recently scored for a new ABC show with Sea World called Sea Rescue that is a part of Litton’s Weekend Adventure Block premiering Saturday morning, April 7. We also talked about all of the video game composing he’s done and how that’s given him a large variety of work to create.
David, what musically is different in the two seasons of The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes?

Here’s another look at Joss Whedon’s “The Avengers” all assembled and ready for battle in a new promotional tie-in with the comic book universe. I doubt if those are the actual actors getting together in costume on a stage and having their pic snapped. More like a nice Alex Ross-ish comic book cover with the actors’ faces penciled in to reflect the cast of the movie. Either way, it’s still kinda cool to see them all together. The whole thing, of course, is to get some of you non-comic book reading nerds out there to familiarize yourself with the characters’ comic book roots via re-releases of their popular comic book storylines, including their “Ultimate Avengers” version, which, in many ways, the upcoming movie represents more than the traditional Marvel versions. Odd how that worked out… The film, starring Tom Hiddleston, Chris Evans, Samuel L. Jackson, Chris Hemsworth,...

Comic-Con International has released the full schedule for Sunday July 24th for San Diego Comic-Con 2011. This is the final day of the convention. Sunday is known as Kids day and is usually the slowest of all the days, there are a few surprises though. In all my years of going to Comic-Con I've never been to a panel in Hal H. Usually nothing is happening in Hall H on Sunday, this year there are a few TV programs going on in Hall H such a as Glee, Supernatural, Doctor Who, The Cleveland Show, Sons of Anarchy, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and this year Buffy the Musical will be in the great Hall as well. I've never been to the Buffy Musical event, and I think I finally want to go this year. A couple of other things worth noting are a one on one panel with Nathan Fillion, and Max Brooks talks about zombies.

The Film:
Marvel might be dominating the movie world, but their animated films, which started back a few years ago, are only little whimpers when compared to DC’s animated films. In the last few films, this has changed for Marvel, as they began crafting original, brave productions like in Next Avengers and Planet Hulk, as well as the incredibly fun Hulk Vs. Delayed to be timed with his big screen debut (review here), Thor: Tales of Asgard isn’t as great as those I’ve mentioned, but even on cruise control, it’s better than Marvel/Lgf’s earlier efforts.
Essentially, Thor: Tales of Asgard acts like a prequel to Thor, telling the story of when a younger Thor was developing his courage and hero status. It’s young Thor, before the Hammer, and while that doesn’t sound promising, the writing is pretty above par for the idea,...

Last year, we got a glimpse of Thor: Tales of Asgard, which looked incredibly promising as an animated feature film. Lionsgate is released the film, at long last, direct-to-dvd on Tuesday, while everyone has Norse gods on the mind. For those less familiar with the comic, they have provided a slideshow to introduce audiences to the cast of characters, ranging from Thor, his foster brother Loki, Allfather Odin, the fierce Sif, the valiant Warriors Three, Amora the Enchantress and the legendary Frost Giants, among others.

Mark Millar is back in perfect writing form with this latest issue of Ultimate Avengers vs. New Ultimates. Returning to the Marvel Universe he was instrumental in shaping, Millar had the daunting task of trying to salvage the wreck that his once-great masterpiece had become under Jeph Loeb’s direction. And while the first two Ultimate Avenger titles were a good start, the third one left me cold. Ultimate Avengers vs. New Ultimates #2 though, is Millar at his best.
The first issue of this mini-series had the Ultimate team discovering Nick Fury was stealing and selling Us super-human secrets to foreign countries and terrorist organizations. The second issue is told from Nick Fury’s perspective, as he puts together an Ultimate Avenger team of Punisher, Hawkeye, War Machine, and Blade to destroy a smuggling ring. Creators threw clothing to the wind today as Doug Tennapel contemplated shirtlessness and Brian Michael Bendis made a shocking revelation about his use of pants. Their carefree attitudes were accompanied by sadness, however, in the wake of Activision's "Guitar Hero" cancellation announcement.
Elsewhere, Erik Larsen's convention frustrations, I noted yesterday, continued to grow, and he's now got WonderCon in his crosshairs as well. Today's rundown will let you know why, along with an explanation from Mark Millar about Ultimate Thor's dialect, and a plea for "Glee."

Hey gang! Here's an early look at one of the variant comic book covers for The Death of Spider-Man which begins in the issues of Ultimate Comics Spider-Man and Ultimate Avengers vs. New Ultimates this month. This is the final issue of the story arc. This variant art was done by Ed McGuiness, who’s currently back on the Hulk series. Issue 157 of Ultimate Comics Spider-Man is set to be released in April.
This is apparently going to be a major game changer for the Ultimate Marvel Universe. And why wouldn't it? They are killing off Spider-Man! It will be interesting to see where they take the story from here. If they replace him with some new lame superhero or bring him back to life.
Check out the cover art and tell us what you think!

The Death of Spider-Man begins in the issues of Ultimate Comics Spider-Man and Ultimate Avengers vs. New Ultimates in February.
Marvel is really touting this story as a major game changer for the Ultimate Marvel Universe. Having Spider-Man dead will certainly cause some changes, but will we have this same old story as we’ve had so many times before when heroes die? You know the story: wannabe heroes come out of the woodwork to try and fill the shoes of the fallen hero often even taking his identity. If that’s what the fallout of Spidey’s death, well, that’ll just be boring.
At any rate Marvel has released an image of the variant cover art for issue 157 of Ultimate Comics Spider-Man set for release in April. This is the final issue of the story arc. This variant art was done by Ed McGuiness, who’s currently back on the Hulk series.

You can’t keep the King of Wakanda down, especially when he’d make a really, really good big-screen movie. While he’s not nearly as well-known as, say, Spider-Man or Captain America, the Panther’s got real potential. And besides, being obscure didn’t exactly hurt Blade or Ghost Rider. Marvel Studios apparently still thinks a movie version is worthwhile, and has hired screenwriter Mark Bailey, known primarily for gritty documentaries, to pen a script for them. In the comics, the Black Panther is the not-so-secret superhero identity of T’Challa, the King of a fictional African country called Wakanda. The Panther is a member of the Avengers, and has appeared in various incarnations, including the most recent “Ultimate Avengers” direct-to-dvd movie, “Rise of the Panther”. As you may or may not recall, a “Black Panther” movie has been in development at one studio or another over the years,...

Marvel has sent us a bevy of exciting preview art from their upcoming Death of Spider-Man event set in the Ultimate Universe.
Marvel wants to make sure everyone understands this is an Ultimate book so there are no rules governing Spidey and what happens to him. The creative team behind this event is solid so there’s reason to give it a shot.

Ultimate Spider-Man fans rejoice, your dream team is back. Brian Michael Bendis and Mark Bagley are reuniting for an 8-issue story arc for the groundbreaking 150th issue.
