Amazon Prime’s new releases in June 2020 is fairly lacking in original material. That’s to be expected for a streaming service that focuses on quality over quantity to begin with now going through a pandemic content crunch.
Standup special Gina Brillon: The Floor Is Lava, Joseph Gordon-Levitt film 7500, and Pete the Cat season 2 are the only originals arriving this month. And that’s fine as Amazon is about to be home to one of 2019’s most fun films. That’s right – Knives Out makes its debut on June 12. It might be awhile before we get to see the next Benoit Blanc mystery so hopefully this will tide us over.
June 1 also sees the arrival of Dirty Dancing, Kingpin, and the tragically underrated Sex Drive. It’s not the most impressive month Amazon has ever had, but at least you still get free shipping.

Hollywood is shifting its focus to The King. After many years of the film industry trying to put together a biopic about Elvis Presley, it seems like the time has final come for the famous rock'n'roll musician to get his time on the big screen.
The Hollywood Reporter is running a story about the many projects about Presley currently in development in Tinseltown. Most notable is the flick "Elvis & Nixon," which centers on an encounter between the singer and president in 1970. The film marks Cary Elwes' directorial debut, and currently has Eric Bana lined up to star as Elvis while Danny Huston will star as Nixon.
But that is just one of four projects centered around The King currently at play. Steve Bing has long been trying to make a biopic about Presley with "American Idol" creator Simon Fuller. His flick, "Last Train to Memphis" (based on the biography...

John Scheinfeld ("The U.S. vs. John Lennon") will direct Rlf Victor Productions' "Fame & Fortune", an adaptation of the 2007 biography "Elvis: Still Taking Care of Business" penned by former Presley bodyguard Sonny West and biographer Marshall Terrill says The Hollywood Reporter.
Though he starred in 27 movies, his life story has never been the subject of a theatrical biopic, though his life has been portrayed in documentaries and telefilms. Jonathan Rhys Meyers and Kurt Russell previously played Presley in two such small screen projects.
Cindy Friedlander, Michael Schlau and West penned the script. Casting begins late fall with a 2012 theatrical release planned to coincide with the 35th anniversary of Presley's death.

Rlf Victor Productions report they are producing a feature adaptation of the 2007 best-seller "Elvis: Still Taking Care of Business", that was co-written by Elvis' close friend and bodyguard Sonny West, with biographer Marshall Terrill.
John Scheinfeld ("The U.S. vs. John Lennon") will direct.
With his brother 'Red', Sonny West was a member of Elvis' core group of friends and associates.
"John Scheinfeld is the premier director of popular culture bios on music icons," said Ricki Landers Friedlander, Chairman and CEO of Rlf Victor Productions. "Elvis Presley and Sonny West's story, which requires great sensitivity and understanding, couldn't be in more capable hands."
Producers are planning for a 2012 release.

Despite being one of the best-selling musical artists of all time, Elvis Presley hasn’t had a lot of films made about his life. The example that immediately springs to mind is Elvis, which starred Kurt Russell and was directed by John Carpenter — but even that was a made-for-tv movie. True Romance is another example, but that’s also minor; he appears out of focus, and is onscreen for only about a minute. But this anomaly will come to an end soon, with THR learning that John Scheinfeld will direct a biopic of the singer, titled Fame & Fortune.
The most important announcement — that is, who will be playing the icon — hasn’t been made yet, but that should come soon; casting will start in the fall, and it’s being lined up for a release in 2012 by Rlf Victor Productions. There’s a significance to the year: It coincides with...

Though rock legend Elvis Presley has been the subject of two major made-for-tv biopics previously (a 1979 version starring Kurt Russell and a 2005 miniseries starring Jonathan Rhys Meyers), Rlf Victor Productions now has a big-screen treatment in the works, and they've tapped documentary filmmaker John Scheinfeld to direct. Scheinfeld is perhaps best known as the director of the 2006 documentary "The U.S. vs. John Lennon", which premiered at that year's Venice Film Festival. The prolific filmmaker is no stranger to chronicling famous musicians, having previously directed docs on such subjects as Bette Midler, Andy Williams, and Ricky Nelson. The film will be based...

Less than a month after the 34th anniversary of the death of Elvis Presley comes the announcement that The King will finally get his big screen biopic. The Hollywood Reporter published a story naming John Scheinfeld as director for Fame & Fortune, based on the 2007 biography Elvis: Still Taking Care of Business by former Elvis bodyguard Sonny West and biographer Marshall Terrill. The film is aiming for a 2012 release, effectively then the 35th anniversary of the singer.s death. Scheinfeld has previously written and directed The U.S. vs. John Lennon and Who Is Harry Nilsson (And Why Is Everybody Talkin. About Him?). It is confounding as to why it has taken this long for a biopic about Elvis to make it to theaters. I.ve seen a slew of the TV movies, including John Carpenter.s Elvis, but I.m looking forward to The King.s life getting the same ...

Brian Tyler has recently scored the upcoming indie production Brake. The film is directed by Gabe Torres who previously collaborated with Tyler on the composer’s first feature film Bartender. Nathan West and James Walker are producing and James Mathers (The U.S. vs. John Lennon) is the film’s cinematographer. Not much is known yet about the movie, but production on the film has recently been finished and the project is screening for buyers this month. In a recent interview with the Australian website TheVine, Tyler mentioned that his score for Brake is purely electronic. No word yet on when the movie will be coming out.
In the interview, Tyler also talks about his recent score for Fast Five, which turned out to be the most successful movie of his career to date, as well as his upcoming TV project Terra Nova, which the composer will be scoring later this summer.

In the documentary Who Is Harry Nilsson (And Why Is Everybody Talkin' About Him?), director John Scheinfeld (The U.S. vs. John Lennon) explores the rough-and-tumble life of the talented singer/songwriter. Best known for his classic, Oscar-winning hit, Everybody's Talkin' At Me (see above), from Midnight Cowboy, Nilsson was a close friend of The Beatles, especially Ringo Starr, who was the best man at Nilsson's wedding. A veritable who's who list of superstars from the '60s and '70s - including Brian Wilson, Micky Dolenz, Terry Gilliam, Eric Idle, Hugh Hefner, Robin Williams, Jimmy Webb, and more - reminisce about Harry's life in the biodoc, which is illuminating, musical, and wildly entertaining. We asked Scheinfeld to tell us more about what went into this labor or love. Tribeca: How do you describe Harry Nilsson to those who may not know who he is? John Scheinfeld: Harry was an extraordinarily gifted artist.

Directed by John Scheinfeld and in the same style as The U.S. vs. John Lennon, Who is Harry Nilsson (and Why is Everybody Talkin' About Him)? which opens on the second Friday of September, is a talking heads docu and if you're like me, and know the voice but not the man, then this might be the ideal docu to brush up on. Here's the synopsis: The Beatles said that Harry Nilsson was their favorite American musician. In his career, Nilsson won 2 Grammys and sold 17 gold records, and yet he is relatively unknown today. Think back on as many films about John Lennon as you possibly can. Ignore the films that actually featured the man from A Hard Day's Night to The U.S. vs. John Lennon and just consider the ones that attempted to provide insight into what formed the man's regarded genius. Not a very long list is it? In the few like Backbeat and the telefilm, Two Of Us, where Lennon had a significant role instead of a background cameo made for kitsch or a laugh, the variant focuses on Lennon's life have done little justice into justifying why he is considered one of the greatest songwriters who has ever lived. Sam Taylor-Wood's focus on Lennon's teenage years in Nowhere Boy is a barren soap opera of a film that puts more emphasis on his mood swings than what made his music so great.
