A sixth instalment of the Ice Age franchise – we’ll call it Ice Age 6 – is in development, with all the original cast returning! Sing hosannas.

Scrat the squirrel scrambling to cling on to his cherished acorn in the Ice Age films is one of the funniest running cinematic gags of the early 2000s. The sheer number of imaginative ways the writers and animators came up with to deny Scrat his prize was extremely impressive, with the set pieces gradually getting bigger in scale. They became a highlight of each film.

According to Deadline, a sixth Ice Age film is in development at Disney and 20th Century Animation.

The film seems to be moving forward at quite a pace too, with many of the original cast – Romano, Leguizamo, Latifah, Leary and Pegg – already signed on. (Read on to discover what all their first names are.)

There’s currently no writer or director attached.

It’s been nearly a decade since the last Ice Age movie, but Manny, Diego, Ellie, Sid, Scrat, and Baby Scrat are coming back for more. It was announced at D23 Brazil that Ice Age 6 is officially in production. Will Scrat finally get his acorn?

The audience at D23 Brazil was treated to a short video announcing Ice Age 6, with cast members Ray Romano, Queen Latifah, John Leguizamo, Denis Leary, and Simon Pegg returning for the sequel. Disney+ unveiled the official trailer for “The Ice Age Adventures of Buck Wild” on Tuesday, a new film in the “Ice Age” franchise that puts Simon Pegg’s one-eyed weasel Buck front and center. Eager for a little independence, possum brothers Crash and Eddie set out to find a place of their own but soon find themselves trapped beneath the ice in a massive cave inhabited by dinosaurs. Carlos Saldanha, director of “Ice Age,” “Ice Age: The Meltdown” and “Rio,” is set to direct his first live-action feature, “100 Days,” for ambitious new Brazilian shingle Ventre Studio and Buena Vista Intl.-Disney.

Created as a theatrical feature, “100 Days,” an adventure drama for family audiences, is inspired by the extraordinary but true story of Brazilian Amyr Klink, who in 1984 at the age of 29, became the first person to cross the South Atlantic in a rowing boat, after many had died in the attempt.

July is the month that North America goes back to the movies in earnest. There have already been some theatrical release of note this summer, but as everyone knows the blockbuster movie season doesn’t get started until a Marvel movie premieres. Thankfully, with its list of new releases for July 2021, Disney+ is offering up some options for those who prefer to stay home.

In addition to arriving in theaters on July 9, Black Widow will premiere on Disney+ as well. Disney+ subscribers can purchase the first Marvel movie released since 2019 for $29.99. Judging by the early buzz, that “Premier Access” price may be worth it. Disney+ is keeping the original summer movie parade going in July with The Rock’s latest action film, Jungle Cruise, premiering on July 30.

Exclusive: Oscar-nominated animator and director Michael Thurmeier has inked with Range Media Partners.

Thurmeier began his career as an animator at Blue Sky Studios, working on special animation for the film Fight Club and the multi-award winning HBO series The Sopranos.

His work led to being named lead animator on Big Sky’s original animated feature Ice Age in 2002 which earned him an Annie Award for best character animation.

The pic spurred a global franchise across five movies earning over $3.2 billion with multiple short films, and two TV specials.

Thurmeier went on to serve as supervising animator on 2006’s Ice Age: The Meltdown, co-director on the 2009 global smash Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs and director on the blockbusters 2012’s Ice Age: Continental Drift and 2016’s Ice Age: Collision Course.

Thurmeier’s short film No Time for Nuts in 2006 was nominated for a 2007 Academy Award, and won the Annie for best animated short.

Exclusive: Oscar-nominated Brazilian filmmaker Carlos Saldanha has signed with Range Media Partners. Saldanha is one of the principle creative forces behind the Ice Age and Rio franchises during his time at Blue Sky Studios, where his films grossed over $2 billion at box offices worldwide. He is a two-time Academy Award nominee, first for the animated short Gone Nutty and more recently, the animated feature Ferdinand.

Saldanha was one of the first animators to join the Blue Sky Studios team of artists. After three years, he was the Supervising Animator for the talking and dancing roaches in the feature film Joe’s Apartment, and served as director of animation for the computer-generated characters in Fight Club. Soon thereafter, he teamed up with Chris Wedge to co-direct Blue Sky’s first animated features, Ice Age and Robots. Hulu is out with its list of everything new coming and everything leaving the streaming service in the month of October.

Highlights include seasons four and seven of “90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days,” Season 8 of “My 600-lb Life” featuring the late star Coliesa McMillian, and a bunch of cooking shows including seasons nine and 10 of “Bizarre Foods With Andrew Zimmern,” Season 13 of “Cutthroat Kitchen” and Season 18 of “Hell’s Kitchen.” All of those come out Oct. 1.

It’s almost spooky season, and the various streaming services are making sure that subscribers have got plenty of great horror content for all ages available to watch this Halloween. Given the current state of the world, this All Hallow’s Eve will see more folks staying in than ever before, so we’ll need as much choice when it comes to finding a perfect movie or TV show to dive into as possible. Thankfully, Netflix, Disney Plus, HBO Max, Hulu and Amazon Prime Video have got us covered.

Of course, there’s much more beyond just horror content arriving across the streaming world this October, with the first day of the month launching hundreds of new titles on all the various sites. October is officially spooky season and it’s nice to know that some streaming services (*cough*Disney+*cough*) are taking that responsibility very seriously.

For its new releases in October 2020, Hulu is premiering the Marvel TV universe’s first-ever outright horror series. Helstrom debuts on Oct. 16 and follows Marvel Comics character Daimon Helstrom as he struggles against all manner of demonic forces. Another spooky treat arriving this month is Monsterland on Oct. 2. This anthology will feature scary stories from around the country.

On the movie side of things, Hulu is bringing out Clive Barker adaptation Books of Blood on Oct. 7 and Bad Hair on Oct. 23. Thank you, Hulu, for your spooky service.

There are a lot of non-Hulu TV shows of note arriving in October as well. The final season of Homeland will be available to stream on Oct. 26. The premiere of Saturday Night Live‘s 46th season will arrive on Oct.

We’re now just over halfway through September, so let’s turn our attention to what’s coming to Hulu next month. Every October, the streaming service celebrates “Huluween” by adding a bunch of new Halloween-themed content. And this year is no different, with countless classic movies going up on the site that you’ll want to check out to get you in the spooky mood as well as a few notable originals.

These include anthology series Monsterland (October 2nd) and horror comedy film Bad Hair (October 23rd), starring Lena Waithe, Vanessa Williams and Laverne Cox, from Dear White People director Justin Simien. Superhero fans will also want to catch supernatural-themed Marvel series Helstrom (October 16th). The final production from Marvel Television, it’s sadly already doomed to just the one season.

Despicable Me outfit Mac Guff is handling the animation on the former, an update of the Jules Verne classic Around The World in Eighty Days, this time featuring a marmoset and a con man frog who set off to achieve a record-breaking journey. The Cottonwood Media-produced project, which is one of the biggest new animated projects at this year’s Cannes market, already has positive feedback from buyers, I understand.

Script comes from Ice Age: The Meltdown scribe Gerry Swallow. Samuel Tourneux, Oscar-nominated for his 2008 short Even Pigeons Go to Heaven, is making his feature debut on the project, which is in pre-production.

HBO is going full Showtime — as in the Los Angeles Lakers.

The premium cable network is reteaming with Adam McKay (Succession, Vice) for a scripted drama based on author Jeff Pearlman's nonfiction book Showtime: Magic, Kareem, Riley, and the Los Angeles Lakers Dynasty of the 1980s. Max Borenstein (Godzilla, Kong: Skull Island, AMC's The Terror) will pen the script for the project, which has been picked up with a pilot order from HBO. Jim Hecht (Ice Age: The Meltdown) will co-write the story.

Showtime marks the first project for McKay after splitting with longtime producing partner Will Ferrell....

Howard will also produce the Universal movie through her Nine Muses Entertainment alongside Eric Carlson and Susan Carlson. Seth MacFarlane and Erica Huggins will produce for their production company, Fuzzy Door. Spencer will executive produce alongside Hecht and McMillan.

Howard and Spencer acted together in the 2011 drama “The Help,” for which Spencer won the supporting actress Oscar. Spencer has been nominated in the same category for the past two years for “Hidden Figures” and “The Shape of Water.”

Howard has starred in Universal’s “Jurassic World” franchise and will next be seen in the upcoming Elton John biopic “Rocketman,” portraying John’s mother, Sheila Eileen. Universal executive vice president of production Erik Baiers will oversee “Fairy Tale Endings” on behalf of the studio.
